Gabe Kotter returns to his old high school -- this time as a teacher. He's put in charge of a class full of unruly remedial students called the Sweathogs. They're a bunch of wisecracking, underachieving and incorrigible students, and it takes all of Mr. Kotter's humor -- and experience as a former Sweathog himself -- to deal with his class. copy + pasted from Google

'Start a family, and do it now'. 'Back to the Loch with ya, Nessie', 'The fun in funeral', 'Close your eyes and think of MacGyver', en veel meer. Ontdek opnieuw hoe een dronkaard de wereld echt ziet! Probeer te achterhalen hoe surly Surly echt is! Krijg ongevraagd een uitleg over The Sweathogs! En vooral, buig nederig voor The Lizard Queen!
today's episode will be out of the ordinary -- and that's because it was not planned, it was not researched, and it was not recorded in our home studios with high tech microphones and sound proofing. But it felt urgent and so we dropped our need for perfection and opened our laptops to record in hotel rooms and far-flung places to bring you the most immediate reaction we could to a most amazing PCPS field trip to New York City, home of Studio 54, The Sweathogs and -- as you'll hear -- some very loyal listeners and friends of the Pop Culture Preservation Society. In this recap, we'll also bring you with us to Shaun Cassidy's new stage performance; did we get some IRL face time with our favorite former Hardy Boy? You'll just have to listen to find out. So please excuse the embarrassing sound quality as we invite you to go with us on this pop culture journey to paradise. "Welcome Back, Kotter" was a classic sitcom that first premiered on September 9, 1975, on the ABC network. The show was created by Gabe Kaplan, who also played the character, Gabe Kotter, a former Sweathog who returns to his alma mater to teach a group of underprivileged students. Kaplan drew on his own experiences growing up in Brooklyn to create the show's setting and characters. The Sweathogs, a group of lovable but misguided students were based on his own high school friends. A young John Travolta was cast as the charismatic lead Sweathog, Vinnie Barbarino. The show even took on a second life in the 90's when reruns were aired as part of "Kotter Fridays" on Nick at Nite. "Welcome Back, Kotter" was an instant hit with audiences, drawing in large viewership numbers and earning critical acclaim for its humor and relatable characters. It was a groundbreaking sitcom that tackled serious issues such as poverty, race, and social class while still delivering laugh-out-loud moments. Its enduring popularity has made it a classic of 1970s television, and its influence can still be felt in many modern sitcoms today. It's getting real -- real soggy, that is -- as we wrestle with the next five songs in the America's Damp 40 countdown. William Joel, Kenny Rogers, Randy Vanwarmer, Bertie Higgins, and yet another Dan (Fogelberg) have us talking about emotional-labor issues, when vulnerability is actually wimpiness, songs that sound like karaoke stock videos look, whether the poor man's Jimmy Buffett is in fact Jimmy Buffett, and how to get fired from Hallmark for dysfunctional metaphorizing. How did these songs change the landscape of our Top 10? And could someone please find Randy Vanwarmer's ex-girlfriend's cat? Hang a bag of DampRid: it's Episode 05. Our intro is by David Gregory Byrne, and our outro is by Donovan. Interstitial music provided by John Sebastian and the Sweathogs. John Travolta is the king of the comebacks. Initially rising to fame as one of the "Sweathogs" on "Welcome Back, Kotter", he blasted into superstardom in the disco classic SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, while GREASE and URBAN COWBOY solidified his status as the biggest star of his era. However, his fame soon became eclipsed by other heartthrobs after a slew of bad movies, resulting in his playing second fiddle to a talking baby in LOOK WHO'S TALKING and its sequels. But, he soon crossed paths with Quentin Tarantino and arguably became a bigger star than ever in the wake of PULP FICTION and other smash hits like GET SHORTY, FACE/OFF and more. But then, his misbegotten BATTLEFIELD EARTH once again put his career on ice, and he's been up and down ever since. While he's mostly stuck doing bargain basement VOD movies these days like SPEED KILLS and I AM WRATH, don't ever count out John Travolta. Hollywood loves a comeback and Travolta is their king!
Download Journey_to_the_Bottom_of_the_Dresser.mp3 When stuck one night for a song topic, I reached out onto the early interwebs (this was the 90s after all) and asked a friend for an idea. Their response was "fashion". The following was written from that spark.Journey to the Bottom of the DresserA jury of my peers strung a wire through my neckand hung me from the gallow’s pole behind the death camp’s folding door. The musty smell pervaded through my skin and overwhelmedall senses left remaining, slowly fading, slipped down to the floor.Ostensibly motionless dust gathers high on my remainsenshrined beneath the refuse. I must wait an endless dayDenied the rite and ritual prescribed to those that left me here.I hearken to nostalgic times in purple haze - the glory years.I am a cotton blend, ¾ sleeved, technicolour concert shirt. My arms are white, my torso black, with tour dates on the back.I’ve smelled like weed for fifteen yearsoccassionally obscured by beerand waiting for the Judas Priest reunion.Pancaked between the legions of the underused and frayed,I shuffle out a well-worn rhythm long past over-played.Left for dead but for that one cold October nightWhen the air tore in and with a grin I boogied under blacklight.I’m brown bell-bottomed corduroys with patches at the knees. In my pocket folded over ticket from a Frampton show.Grass stains creeping up my legfrom that night we dragged the kegdown into the woods behind the schoolyard. We used to be so coolUnderneath the party lights our funky undulations ripped the night apartWe just forgot the rulesThat evolution obsolescence manic-depressed coalesced to disappearanceHung out and folded, scrunched up in ball undermiles of memories, stretched out like a pall overindecent histories and chemical mysteries.Remember when we were the in-thing?Packed into a trunk tucked underneath the stairwayBuried under Twister and a ragged box of PaydayI’m the metal studded jacket and the scuffed-up cowboy bootsI’m a feathered white fedora with a polyester suitI’m the transfer t-shirts with the Fonz, Sweathogs, and Monster moviesI’m not as think as you stoned I am, but baby I feel groovyI’m banished to the dustbowl of undying never-ending:Asynchronistic fashion faux pas swinging to and fro.Let callous daring bring us backto help ignore Blackwell’s attack, and so our minds dissolving into fabric.
Four of 1975's sitcoms are heard from, including two Italian flops, a cursed MTM spinoff, and you can't go home to the Sweathogs again.
