Disclaimer: Huge props to JCD who has recently signed his first ever pro contract with the Abra Weavers in the MPBL! Let's get it! This is a super unique story; one of hoop lineage from both mom and dad, of heartbreak and sadness at an early age, one of resilience, one of seeing the light and to keep on fighting. Jack grew up in a fun and active house, sharing space with not only his immediate family but his cousins as well. At an early age the inside or outside of the Cruz - Dumont house would be littered with sports and a bunch of battles! As he grew older Jack developed a real love for the game of hoops and football, eventually finding himself and his brothers at storied Vancouver College (Thanks to his dedicated mom who went back to school to earn her degree!!). In Jacks grade ten year football was really his main thing, however the sickness of his dad John impacted his grade 10/11 year and he had challenges with focusing and being committed as any teenager would! It was through this time watching his dad battle for his life that Jack found the inspiration and motivation to keep going, to fight and not give up. From there the switch happened and he lit the fire we see today. After a solid senior year at VC, he committed to UBC to play for the T-Birds. While there Jack was on pace to graduate early due to a covid year, and realized he could eventually turn himself into a pro. Wanting to get a feel for what that might look like, a trip out to the Philippines showed Jack something special and he decided to make the move, leaving UBC after 3 years of eligibility to play in the University league with the hope of signing a pro contract…..and here we are! This young bull has lots of hoops left in him, it was a great time connecting and we are excited to see Jack's future! Tap in! When Elliott Weiner & Pat McNulty come in to do the show you know it's time for their annual collaboration car show between the T-Bird and Mustang clubs. It's all about "the baby Birds" and "the big birds" when these guys get together, but it's always a show that will delight and make even a non-Ford guy smile. The guys covered the history of the show, plus talked about a rare Edsel. Ray dropped a parts question on the guys concerning a 67 T-Bird that's coming into the shop this week for a make-over. Ponder, if you will, a creature of myth and Legend born from The Whispers of ancient winds. It is known as the Thunderbird, a colossal bird-like Phantom that soars high above the land, its wings stretching wide like the sky itself. In the realm of Native American folklore this creature is not just a bird, but a Harbinger of dark storms over time. Tales of this legendary beast have drifted into the modern world leaving behind a trail of curious sightings and strange encounters. Like Echoes In a Canyon these reports are often dismissed. Hoaxes, they say, or the tricks of nature, but in the shadows of our minds, in the places where reason gives way to wonder the legend of the Thunderbird endures. As you gaze into the stormy Horizon ask yourself this.. Is the Thunderbird a mere figment of folklore, or a glimpse into the unknown? Paul Skenes is pitching today. So this is a counter programming day for the PM Team. Chris gives his quick thoughts on the Skenes start against the Brewers in Milwaukee today. Aaron Civale starts for the Brewers and he is not that good. If they can take advantage of a struggling pitcher, they should be able to win this series. The Cardinals were swept in a double header yesterday, which is good news for the Pirates, they just need to start winning more than two games in a row. ESPN came out with a list of top 10 at each position, Minkah Fitzpatrick was ranked as the number 4 safety. How much pressure are the Steelers under this year? T-Bird is on site and he says that his life has not changed since winning the Hot Dog Eating Contest. Is he underselling such a monumental event in his life? Chris talks about the offseason moves and if the Steelers are better. Johnny the Barber calls in to ask if Steelers fans are still upset about Myles Garrett winning the DPOTY. Hockey Talk! Naming four iconic images from Penguins and Devils history. Also, the Penguins switched to Coca-Cola, ending the RC Cola era. Mueller is very excited.

Naming four iconic images from Penguins and Devils history. Also, the Penguins switched to Coca-Cola, ending the RC Cola era. Mueller is very excited. Chris takes a closer look at the ESPN Rankings of the top 10 players by position. Specifically the running back position. Najee Harris was in the "receiving votes" category. KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joins the show. Bob has not watered his lawn in this drought. A little golf talk with Chris and Bob. Bob gives his thoughts on the Steelers running back positions on the ESPN Top 10 by position. What does Bob think the Pirates should do at the trade deadline? A report says the Pirates are looking to upgrade the lineup, but the Pirates need to actually pull the trigger. What Would Poni and Mueller Do? Chris feels like he is starting to get sick. He also says that the days of the Penguins being aggressive seem to be over. We are entering a new era for the Penguins where they are "just another team". He says that it is possible the Penguins will fall off the map into 'meh' territory. Skenes threw 7 no-hit innings and was pulled after 99 pitches and a 1-0 lead. Colin Holderman immediately gave up two hits after Skenes was pulled. Many callers are mad that Skenes was pulled with a no-hitter. Aroldis Chapman is on the mound to try and get the save. Chris says Skenes is the best pitcher in baseball right now even with him being pulled with a no-hitter. We take many more calls from angry listeners calling for Shelton's job. We took more phone calls from Pirates fans who were irate that Paul Skenes was pulled with a no-hitter intact. A few listeners said they were okay with him being pulled, which Chris asks them why? Did Derek Shelton manage the game in real time? We tune in to Derek Shelton's post game press conference and his comments after pulling Paul Skenes. Paul Skenes speaks to the media after his outing. How did he feel and did he want to continue pitching against the Brewers? Final wrapup of the Paul Skenes outing and last phone calls of the evening.

It's our first journey into the chaotically exciting history of "professional" roller derby with former skater and long-time keeper-of-the-flame Scott Stephens ("Rolling Thunder: The Golden Age of Roller Derby & the Rise and Fall of the L.A. T-Birds"). From the moment he laced up his first pair of roller skates at age six in mid-1960s Los Angeles, roller derby became more than just a sport to Stephens – it became his passion. In the midst of the craze sweeping through the city, Stephens found himself captivated by the electrifying energy of the Los Angeles Thunderbirds, whose thrilling matches were locally (and nationally) televised, and whose star performers rivaled the fame of players on established sports teams like the Dodgers, Rams and Lakers. As he honed his skills at the T-Bird Rollerdrome in Pico Rivera, Stephens' love for skating soon transformed into an unexpected opportunity as he discovered the team's urgent need for new talent. From 1978-81, Stephens dove headfirst into the exhilarating world of Roller Games, immersing himself in every aspect of the sport – from the adrenaline-fueled races around the track to the underground culture teeming with colorful characters and unconventional lifestyles. Stephens takes us on a nostalgic exploration of some of roller derby's storied past, as well as the outsized role of its most iconic team. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/RdiDZzQeHSY SPONSOR THANKS: Royal Retros (promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats BUY/READ EARLY & OFTEN: Rolling Thunder: The Golden Age of Roller Derby & the Rise and Fall of the L.A. We get into what a T-Bird could mean these days, the majesty of Michelle Pfeiffer, shooting dance numbers before the songs are ready, the chaotic grandiosity of producer & impresario Allan Carr, the impact of RSO & Robert Stigwood on our culture, fan theories about Grease's Sandy - and our own theories about Frenchie, John Travolta, Maxwell Caulfield's brief moment of Hollywood Heat, Cool Rider and much much more.
