We met Chris at Hyrox Melbourne and we were blown away by his race performance over the weekend and just what a top guy he is! The first team to qualify for the Elite 15 Doubles with his teammate Tom Rodgers, we chat to Chris about how he training went in the lead up to the race, we have a race recap and find out what his plans are for future racing and training as we head to Chicago for World Champs in June 2025. We also talk about two other races Chris did last weekend in Melbourne, the mixed doubles with our good friend Jane from Erg Army (check out episode 4) where they raced Crossfit royalty when Tia Toomey and James Newbury stepped on the start line. Then to conclude the weekend, Chris was part of the male relay team that set an APAC record! He was on fire! This episode is full of incredible training advice and racing tips as well as a low down on the commitment it takes to race at this level. A huge thank you to Chris for sharing his experience with us. Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians citizens overwhelmingly voted in favor of allowing recreational cannabis use on the tribe's reservation. If approved by the tribal council, the Qualla Boundary could be positioned as the only location for legal marijuana sales in the southeastern United States. Supporters say it is necessary to diversify a tribal economy heavily dependent on gaming. But they'll have to persevere against opposition including some tribal officials and at least one North Carolina congressman who proposes withholding public funds from tribes that utilize their sovereign right to sell cannabis. How do you respond to the word trauma? Sometimes, those who experienced trauma reject even the term itself. Instead of acknowledging it and starting the healing process, survivors often minimize their experiences. When this happens, sometimes both healthy and unhealthy coping mechanisms are normalized for them, as well. Childhood trauma is specifically difficult to deal with and conquer the lasting effects of. It’s oftentimes buried deep within and oftentimes has a silencing effect on the person and they grow into adulthood. This world of silence inhibits their behavior, mindset, and various aspects of life. This is where therapy is needed. Even if the trauma happened 20 or more years ago, it’s never too late to heal. You can always take steps toward healing that trauma no matter how long ago it was. In this episode, I talk with Amy Van Slambrook. She shares some deep insight into the specific behaviors and tendencies that survivors demonstrate, how to identify them, and how a partner may be able to assist in the healing process. She also shares some beautiful, impactful words of wisdom for any survivors listening to this podcast today. Take a listen to Amy’s moving story and take one step closer toward breaking the silence. About Amy Van Slambrook Amy Van Slambrook is a licensed psychotherapist, certified life and workplace coach, experienced consultant, and writer. She is passionate about the work she does and compassionately interacts with her clients. Amy has overcome significant hurdles in her life—her own journey and healing from real life struggles, wounds, and trauma. She was able to spark the healing process in herself through the best training ground available. This experience is one that solidified her vocational calling: to help others—especially women and couples—experience freedom, heal and gain the power from their past. Some Questions I Ask: How were you drawn to this work? (3:13) Could you share a couple of examples of what trauma looks like? (21:07) What can you see or hear that demonstrates how trauma is impacting relationships? (29:40) How can the partner of a trauma survivor love and support their partner? (36:29) What words of wisdom do you have to offer trauma survivors? (40:22) In This Episode, You Will Learn: Why trauma survivors minimize experience and normalize their coping behaviors and experiences. (7:25) How childhood trauma ripples to affect adult relationships and behaviors. (12:03) How trauma reveals itself in the body rather than through language. (14:50) Why trauma survivors are generally calm in crises situations. (18:18) Why survivors get stuck in a cycle of trauma. (26:13) How men often suffer in silence as a result of childhood abuse. Jack Nash – John Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) GM- Tod Foley Jack Nash – John Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) GM- Tod Foley After talking with Bento, Nash and Reggie head over to the Rebel Yell to catch up with Tom Rodgers. There is much male bonding to be had, unfortunately Nash falls off the wagon……hard. When Reggie and Nash finally wake up in the morning they realize they’re 2 hours late for work. Bento seems relatively non-plussed by the situation and gives them a tour of the Dark Matter facility and introduces them to their team. http://daytrippersrpg.com http://www.fictioneers.net/ https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/
Jack Nash – John Charles (Chip) Parsons – Jesse Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) GM- Tod Foley The phone rings jarring Nash awake, he pushes the phone on the floor and stumbles to Reggie’s room waking him up. They order room service and try and come up with a plan while they wait for Bento to call. While scrolling through their new PDAs, trying to learn about their new identities, Nash sees a news story. There’s a hand drawn police sketch of Fitch and the story says that he’s wanted for the murder of two Somnambula Inc security guards. He’s on the run and the police think he’s in the woods outside of Sacramento. Nash begins to get low and asks Reggie for the whiskey so he can strengthen up his coffee. Reggie falls asleep and many hours later Nash has killed the whiskey and is quite drunk and depressed. Reggie is able to get him into bed where he just lays sobbing and mumbling spilling his secret about his failed mission and promotion. Meanwhile Reggie gets a call from Dr. Lee who informs him that Chip is being transferred to the Coral Gardens psyche hospital for further treatment. Nash falls into a fitful sleep and then Bento calls Reggie giving him an address and says to meet there within the half hour. Reggie throws Nash into a cold shower and calls for a car. They meet Bento and Tom Rodgers at a diner downtown. Bento informs them that there are eyewitnesses that say Suzie left with a bunch of guys in business suits in a car registered to Somnambula Inc. He says there’s not really anything they can do at this point. Bento does have an ace up his sleeve however. He tells Nash and Reggie that there is a press junket at Somnambula headquarters and he has set up cover ID’s for them to go in and scope things out. Bento cautions that it is not a rescue mission. When they leave the diner Bento sets them up with some gear for the mission and then Reggie and Nash do a little shopping to pick up some appropriate clothing for the job, bis cas. Afterwards Reggie confronts Nash about his drinking ultimately convincing him to smash he empty whiskey bottle in a powerful “ritual”. http://daytrippersrpg.com/ https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/
