Hugh Evans walks us across two thousand square miles of North Wales where the zodiac lives in the land itself, constellations pressed into mountains and rivers and place names older than Babylon ever dreamed of writing down. Before Ptolemy standardized the sky for empire, before Mesopotamia carved its tablets, someone in Gwynedd, Wales looked up and then etched the traces of the heavens into the Earth. Hugh helps us trace the thread of early celestial awareness from Göbekli Tepe to Northern Wales, by way of the tin routes of the Bronze Age, and the star that's missing from the Pleiades.Hugh's website: https://originofthezodiac.com/Hugh's Books: https://amzn.to/43alekUPATREON https://www.patreon.com/c/demystifysciPARADOX LOST PRE-SALE: https://buy.stripe.com/7sY7sKdoN5d29eUdYddEs0bHOMEBREW MUSIC - Check out our new album!Hard Copies (Vinyl): FREE SHIPPING https://demystifysci-shop.fourthwall.com/products/vinyl-lp-secretary-of-nature-everything-is-so-good-hereStreaming:https://secretaryofnature.bandcamp.com/album/everything-is-so-good-herePARADIGM DRIFThttps://demystifysci.com/paradigm-drift-show00:00 Go! 00:05:01 Time as a Tool of Power00:14:06 Mythology as Memory System00:19:00 Welsh Landscape as Star Map00:26:42 Ptolemy, Babylon, and Zodiac Origins00:39:10 Proto-Constellations and Paleolithic Star Lore00:46:53 Place Names, Churches, and Encoded Astronomy01:00:13 Discovering the Gwynedd Star Map01:12:09 Göbekli Tepe, Ancient Metrology, and Shared Systems01:31:26 Bronze Age Trade and Maritime Civilization01:49:43 Civilization as Memetic Legacy02:08:08 Three Celestial Rings as Cultural Framework#zodiac #starmap #wales #ancientastronomy #neolithic #constellations #ancientcivilization #mythology #cosmology #bronzeage MERCH: Rock some DemystifySci gear : https://demystifysci-shop.fourthwall.com/AMAZON: Do your shopping through this link: https://amzn.to/3YyoT98DONATE: https://bit.ly/3wkPqaDSUBSTACK: https://substack.com/@UCqV4_7i9h1_V7hY48eZZSLw@demystifysci RSS: https://anchor.fm/s/2be66934/podcast/rssMAILING LIST: https://bit.ly/3v3kz2S SOCIAL: - Discord: https://discord.gg/MJzKT8CQub- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DemystifySci- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/DemystifySci/- Twitter: https://twitter.com/DemystifySciMUSIC: -Shilo Delay: https://g.co/kgs/oty671

How do we make sense of the differences within the four Gospels?Readers of the Bible can't help but notice that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John sometimes tell the same stories differently. Was there one angel at the tomb (Matthew), or two (Luke)? Did Jesus cleanse the Temple at the beginning of his ministry (John), or near the end (Matthew)? In this episode, we explore how to make sense of this variety within the Gospel accounts. We discuss apparent contradictions, the literary conventions of first-century biographies, and how to read the Gospels with wise confidence in the reliability of Scripture.Chapters:(0:00) Introductions: The Problem of Harmonization(4:27) Not Video Camera Footage(10:50) Place Names and Geography(14:25) Order, Grouping, and Theological Structure(21:09) Letting Matthew Be Matthew

On The Tonight Show with Fionnán Sheahan: From ‘vetocracy to democracy' - the government's new Accelerating Infrastructure Report and Action Plan promises a cultural shift in Irish planning. We ask whether these reforms can finally rebalance individual rights to object with the need to deliver major public projects. And as the Herzog Park controversy reignites debate over historical links and colonial origins in place names, we explore whether Ireland is entering a wider national discussion about how we commemorate our past.

Welcome to four letter word season! We're kicking off with one of the most versatile words: it can be a noun, verb, punctuation, expostulation, full sentence on its own; it can be an intensifier, an insult and a compliment... and a Category A swear, which is why I've had to sanitise it for the title lest your pod app takes exception. And, of course, content note: this episode contains many category A swears, plus some sexual references. Lexicographer and editor Jesse Sheidlower joins to talk about making four editions (so far) of The F Word, a history and dictionary of the multivalent F word. Find his work at jessesword.com. Find out more about the episode and read the transcript at theallusionist.org/ffff (that's four Fs). Next up in Four Letter Word season: we revisit an even stronger swear. If you open up Google Maps while you're driving through the Gaeltacht, you might notice that many of the place names are anglicised. Place names are important and pass on a lot of valuable information, even if we no longer understand how to interpret it. Within them, they tell us who used to live in an area, or what natural features were important. Some of them even end up with a range of legends to explain names that might otherwise seem random or bizarre. Folklore attempts to explain their origins. I've talked about unusual place names before, but this time, we're going to look at more of a range of names to see where they come from. So let's have a look at some place names from England, Wales, and the United States. Where did these names come from, and how does their original meaning compare to the names we know now? YUH 185 is environtmental lawyer/professor/author Rebecca Bratspies and her book "Naming Gotham: The Villains, Rogues and Heroes Behind New York's Place Names". Sitting in the exhasberating traffic of the Major Deegan Highway one day, our guest had plenty of time to ponder (and sometimes curse) the faceless figures that blessed the infrastracture in and around one of the greatest cities in the world. As she researched some of these historical figures, she discovered that manyof them might have been worthy of their distinction, while others were far less deserving of having their name committed to posterity. For every Jackie Robinson or Shirley Chisolm that New Yorkers can feel good about, there was a nefarious character like Richard Riker who dealt in infamy. #gothamcity #majordeegan #jackierobinson #shirlychisolm #williamshea #brooklynbridge #cuny #queens #williamcullenbryant #johnastor #annhutchinson YUH Theme by David T and Mojo 3 https://www.amazon.com/Insanity-Sobriety-Blues-David-Mojo3/dp/B091N8BJNB Rebecca Bratspies Offical https://www.rebeccabratspies.com/ Naming Gotham: The Villains, Rogues and Heroes Behind New York's Place Names on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Naming-Gotham-Villains-Rogues-Heroes/dp/1467151408 Yeah Uh Huh Social Stuff: Yeah Uh Huh on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@yeahuhhuhpod Yeah Uh Huh on Facebook https://facebook.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Twitter https://twitter.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7pS9l716ljEQLeMMxwihoS?si=27bd15fb26ed46aa Yeah Uh Huh on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yeah-uh-huh/id1565097611 Yeah Uh Huh Website: https://yeah-uh-huh.wixsite.com/yeahuhhuhpod

There's no doubt about it - there are some weird and wonderful place names to be found across Scotland, while the pronunciation of others can leave visitors scratching their heads in puzzlement. In this episode, we discuss how place names are very much linked to the history of our nation.
Until this month, one of Colorado's highest peaks was named for the former state governor who fostered and supported what became known as the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864. It took years of pressure and an awareness campaign to get the name changed. Still, support is not universal. We'll get the story on changing the Mount Evans name to Mount Blue Sky - and some updates on other important place name changes.
