“There have been Black people in the UK at least 2,000 years ago, to Roman times…” Mr. Tony Warner London, England Author, Educator, Entrepreneur “We didn't learn any African history before slavery, we learned about slavery as if that's where Black history began.” What does it mean to bring history to life? Today's guest Mr. Tony Warner is the author of Black History Walks in London Volume 1 produced by the Black female run publishing house Jacaranda Books. He is also co-author on the GCSE school text book on History from Pearson Education. Tony states facts about history, including the white supremacist educational system in England, the legacy of colonial education in the Caribbean, and the Civil Rights Movements (Black Panthers, Bus Boycott) happening in the UK. “Find the oldest person in your family and ask them questions…”In the 22 years since creating Black History Walks, he's realized the massive deprivation of Black people being educated about their history, and this mass miseducation is perpetuated by colonialism and racism. In spite of the disappointing climate, there is still joy to be found in Saturday Schools, adult students having eye opening moments (check out the “why their history is important” section in his newsletter), and why Black economic independence and Black education independence are critical for the future. At the end of the American Civil War, thousands of African Americans ventured west to the frontier in a bid to achieve freedom and escape the prejudice they faced. Many of these frontiersmen became cowboys with up to 25 per cent of cowboys were in fact black. PHIL Hello and a very warm welcome to Five in the Eye - the weekly review show on Colourful Radio that examines five stories that have caught our eye over the past week. This is Phil Woodford in London and we're on episode 0317. Michael, that's episode zero THREE ONE SEVEN. MICHAEL A prime number edition! Very well spotted Phil! This is me - Michael Ohajuru - joining the show via Zoom this week and revealing that we have a very special guest with us today. It's my old friend Tony Warner. Hi there, Tony! TONY Hi Michael, hello Phil. It's good to be here on Five in the Eye! And I can reveal our top story this week is the death of Black historian Runoko Rushidi. We'll discuss his ideas and his legacy. PHIL For story number two, it's the war of words that has blown up over the role of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the RNLI, in rescuing refugees who are in trouble at sea. People continue to head towards the UK in boats out of desperation but are met with hostility. At a time when NATO's exit from Afghanistan looks set to herald a further humanitarian crisis. MICHAEL What's story number three? Well, Digby Jones - the former boss of the CBI - criticised former footballer and Olympics presenter Alex Scott for the way she pronounces her words on TV. It sparked a furious backlash. TONY For our fourth story, we're going glamping! Holidaymakers shelled out a fortune for what they were told was going to be a very posh campsite, but were horrified to find they were sharing basic facilities with other guests. PHIL And finally this week, it's the remarkable new tourist attraction that's heading for Stratford in East London. A gigantic, glowing orb that's the size of Big Ben! MICHAEL Now, that's one step up from the ‘mound' of Marble Arch! And that's this week's Five in the Eye!

This episode of ATP Extra is a red side of the park special and a bit of a break from the normal format of only one guest, as in this episode, we interview several guests that have appeared on Across the Park over the last couple of seasons, to get their immediate reactions to Liverpool recently winning number 19 and finally getting our hands on the Premier League title! The guests on this episode are: Former Liverpool players; Gary Gillespie, Jay Spearing and Tony Warner, Lead singer of the Farm and founder member of the Spirit of Shankly Peter Hooton, Former Cagewarriors MMA Lightweight World champion Paddy Pimblett, Former British and Commonwealth boxing champion Stephen Smith, Author and journalist for “This is Anfield” Jeff Goulding and Ex-Liverpool academy coach and now academy director for the Seattle Sounders in the MLS, Gary Lewis Whilst the format of the interviews is similar for each guest, each one has a different experience and perspective on what is a momentous occasion in this clubs history and, with their contrasting careers and backgrounds, all give us different insights into what the win means for them and the club, how the players will react and where they see the current standing and future potential of this Liverpool team! All interviews were conducted in the ten days following Liverpool being confirmed as champions, so some interviews may contain comments about upcoming games that have subsequently now taken place. However, we do try to limit editing of interviews, so that the listener gets the full picture and is as close to the live conversation as possible and we hope that this doesn’t detract from your enjoyment of the show!

This edition of "Across The Park Extra" sees former Liverpool goalkeeper, Tony Warner, join us in the studio to take us through his journey from trainee accountant and Sunday league goalkeeper at 18, to making 358 appearances as a professional footballer. Tony reflects on his six eventful years at Liverpool, starting in the A-team under Steve Highway in 1993 and finishing as Gerard Houllier arrived in 1999. Despite not making an appearance for Liverpool, Warner witnessed the development of players such as Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, whilst training alongside more LFC greats such as Steve McManaman, Ian Rush and John Barnes. Warner shares some entertaining stories including; how he had to try and balance his career as an accountant with his football exploits before signing for Liverpool, how he upset Julian Dicks at Mellwood and how he clashed with Stan Collymore and punched the manager (by accident) just before he was set to make his debut in pre-season. Post-Liverpool, Warner went on to play in an Old Firm derby for Celtic alongside Henrik Larsson and made 221 appearances for Millwall, where he was influential in their rise from Division 3 to the Championship. Everton listeners will also be surprised to learn that Warner had a role in Tim Cahill leaving Millwall for Everton, rather than Charlton! This podcast tells the story of a committed footballer who started from the very bottom, learnt his craft amongst the very best, before going on to carve out an excellent career as a first team keeper. It's a great listen for reds and all football enthusiasts alike!

This week Harry is joined by a man who played for 18 clubs and although he only managed 3 games at Celtic, one of those was truly memorable - Mr Tony Warner. Tony has very fond memories of his brief spell at Celtic and we have fond memories of him! His second game was the 5-1 game where Dr Jo showed he could managed, Lubo showed he could play and Mjalby showed he could put Jorge Albertz up in the air. Tony tells tales of his time at various clubs, tells us how just one day of paper reading in Glasgow let him know that there was too much bias and puts two Celtic players in his all time top 4. A great guy who had a great life in football...Mr Tony Warner. @Bonus1_TW
