The lads discuss Endo in this context and Trev asks Jan if he ever had any 'project' players while he was a manager - the answer is both revealing and entertaining. There is a chat about the ongoing Trent experiment and whether or not Joe Gomez should have started for this particular game and the lads reflect on one point from six in the wake of other results in the Premier League. Jan gives his opinion on Roberto De Zerbi as a manager and this leads into a conversation about Manchester United, Ten Haag and the dearth of truly great managers in the current era. Trev and Jan assess the next batch of games after the international break and there's a high degree of optimism that it can be a productive period for Klopp's men and Jan tells Trev about his night out with Ian Rush, Jimmy White and Alex Higgins when all of them were in their 80s pomp.Prefer to listen to our shows without the ads? How often does David James relive his cameo up front for Manchester City? Why did he fall out with Dimitar Berbatov in India? And which England cricket captain was he said to resemble by Leeds fans? All are discussed this week as the former Liverpool, Aston Villa and England keeper joins Kammy and Ben at St George's Park. He takes us back to the start and tells how he went from standing around in the middle of a pitch to being England's number one at a World Cup. He explains why he joined Watford when he was a Luton fan - but did he really wear their socks under his Watford kit? He also explains how he had little idea how big Liverpool were - and how famous Ian Rush was - when he signed for them. He also talks about why he still fancies management, the frustrations of applying for jobs and whether the Rooney Rule can make a difference. Elsewhere, he reveals whether he really was approached to be an illustrator for DC Comics, how close he was to joining the NFL, and how a chat with a stranger helped him during a difficult time during his career."

Do you ever think about the time before mobile phones? The era of calling your the landline in your mate's house, only for their mum to answer. "Can I talk to Jimmy, please?" "Is that Tom? OK, I'll get Jimmy." "... JIMMY! JIMMY! TOM IS ON THE PHONE." "Hello." "Hello. Do you want to come round my house?" "... MUM! CAN I GO ROUND TOM'S HOUSE?" "... ARE YOU HAVING TEA THERE?" "Mum says am I having tea there?" "... MUM, CAN JIMMY HAVE TEA HERE?" "... YES." "Yes." "OK." "OK." "Bye." We had such wonderful conversations on phones, before everything became texts and WhatsApp messages. My granddad didn't even talk to his friends using a landline. He used a CB radio. "Mike, this is Tom. Over (note: everyone in my family is called Tom!)" "Mike, this is Tom. Over." "Tom, this is Mike. Over." "Hello, Mike. Over." "Did you watch the football? Over." "Yes. Over." "Ian Rush is a C**T! Over." "C**T! Over" My granddad had such wonderful conversations on his CB radio, before everything became texts and WhatsApp messages. His mind would have blown had he realised what future lay ahead for phones. Anyway. Welcome to VG247's The Best Games Ever Podcast: Ep.20 - The best game you played on your phone. Please do let us know what you think of the show – and if this is your first time listening, do go back to listen to the previous episodes. If you've got suggestions for topics, we'd love to hear them. If you're a Billcliffe fan (I've heard there are some), he'll be back on soon, so stop messaging me about him. “What is VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask while wondering how I remembered, verbatim, those conversations from 30 years ago. I'll level with you. Those conversations came out of my brain about five minutes ago. But they are accurate in tone, feel, and language. Anyway, this podcast, which is why you're on this page, is essentially a 30-minute panel show where people (me and some others on VG247) decide on the best game in a specific category. That's it. It's good. Listen to it. We've got some details on the show's content below (if you want to get a refresher before heading to the comments to make a wonderful, considered post or don't want to listen but do want to know what games we picked), so if you want to avoid spoilers, don't scroll past this warning. W A R N I N G The best game you played on your phone This is the topic of Episode twenty of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. Here's a rundown of who picked what. Tom - New Star Soccer Before mobile phone games became all fancy pants, New Star Soccer blazed the way with simple, but perfect touchscreen gameplay, tidy management simulation mechanics, and that hard to pin-down moreishness. It was simply brilliant, and the game I've put more hours into on a phone than any other. Alex – Retro Bowl Retro Bowl is an astonishingly good game, a great expression of what made the classic 8-bit arcade-era sports games great, compressed down to a mobile game that ultimately feels surprisingly deep despite its simple presentation and budget price. I'd heartily recommend it to anyone - fan of American Football or not. But better still, honestly, is my personal connection to this game, where it was directly responsible for keeping me sane during an enormously stressful 48 hours. It's brilliant, but if keeping your head screwed on while you're trapped away from home as the world crumbles around you isn't a great demonstration of mobile gaming, I don't know what is. Connor – Pokemon Go I know it was the obvious pick, but Pokemon Go stood out to me as the best phone game I've ever played, and the only one that actually got me out and, well, mobile. As opposed to sitting away at home tapping away. It really was in its early days an explosive entity in the gaming space. Everyone was playing — everyone! You, me, your work mates, your boss, my boss (probably). Everyone has their own stories of seeing crowds of people walking around, face in phones, searching for pokemon. In those early days, before Niantic figured out people were walking Looney Toons style into pits and across construction sites, there was a real wild energy about the bloody thing. Factional rivalries were real: not online weak sauce cosmetic beef, I'm talking the real deal! You could see those suckers on the other team, you could spot them walk up and claim a spot, and you could stair them down as you took it back. Glorious, social gaming. The mobile platform at its best. Come back in a week for another episode of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

There isn't a single thing more addictive on this planet than being near someone that is full of heart. People of this nature make those around them want to be better, work harder, love stronger, listen longer, etc.  Ian Rush is one of those people. He's all heart. HIs heart is for his family. His heart is for the parents he helps work through their own parenting struggles. He gives his all to making the community around him better by making his home strong first.  If you know me or have listened to the podcast long enough you know that I massively enjoy those that can cut loose, drop the f-bomb and still bring levels of thought and intellect in a way that blows my hair back. The story of Ian and how he's gone from being a slave to a company he helped build to "unschooling" his daughter and running his own life on his own terms is phenomenal.  Ian is a deep dude; intrinsic and thoughtful with a good dash of bullshittery. Tune in to this one and follow Ian. Learn from him. Subscribe to our show and pass it on.  Check Ian out here... Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 57 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Peter HootonPeter Hooton, is a singer, songwriter and the front man of Liverpool band The Farm, he was a pioneer in what would become football fanzines when he started The End Fanzine back in the early eighties. He is a committee member of the Liverpool fans pressure group Spirit of Shankly and just to keep busy over the years he has written a couple of books and put out a documentary on the Casuals. The second half of the conversation kicks off with Andrew and Peter chatting about the importance of supporters pressure groups such as the Celtic Trust and the Spirit of Shankly as we wait for European Super League and the influence of Billionaire owners. The Spirit of Shankly were inspired by the Green Brigade to support local foodbanks and Peter and the group have also been up to Celtic to check out the Standing Section in Celtic Park. The second part of the chat floats between music, football and life and Peter explains how the sound the band created for the Spartacus album caught on and how football and music mixed to create the sound of The Farm and the image they created from terrace fashion and the influence it would have on the bands that followed them. Peter chats about the friendly rivalry with the Happy Mondays and their hilarious Trip to Tipp, festival in Ireland and a session after the sound check and the shenanigans that followed before, during and after the gig. Having followed Liverpool around England and Europe all his life, Peter stopped going into Anfield after Greame Souness gave an interview to The Sun on the anniversary of Hillsborough.Peter also touches on how some Liverpool fans were unhappy with Souness joining Rangers and are unhappy that Steven Gerard took the manager's job at Ibrox.Hillsborough is discussed and the Celtic v Liverpool game that followed and listeners can hear the pain in Peter's voice as he remembers that day and what followed that traumatic experience.Peter also turned out for Celtic alongside Jimmy Johnstone against Liverpool in a charity game before Ian Rush's testimonial and he recalls how Jimmy wouldn't pass the ball to him and Alan Hansen wouldn't let him go by him but he did get to perform with The Farm at half time and he also speaks about returning to Glasgow to play on the Justice Tour with Mick Jones and Glasvegas. Gerry Conlon and Paddy Hill were at the gig that night and they know a thing or two about Justice!Peter jumps in the Celtic Soul Podcast Time Machine and travels back to a Liverpool game in Europe v St. Etienne and into the Kop where he still stands to watch his team. The story behind the song “All Together Now” is brought to life and Peter gives his opinion on the soldiers of World War 1 and the Poppy Fascism that has followed. Throughout the conversation Peter was open and honest.Play Out Song, Groovy Train performed by The FarmFollow Peter on Twitter @TheFarm/PeterHootonEpisode Sponsors More than 90 Minutes More than 90 Minutes Issue 113 Print Edition is now Sold Out but you can still download the digital edition.
