Today we're talking about money. You're probably either in two camps - you're either excited about money or not excited about money. I am going to talk about money mindset for Christians. I am not a money mindset coach, I'm not a financial planner, but what I do know is the truth of the Bible. Money does not need to be feared, it does not need to be something we dislike, and I know money is powerful. God has given us money, he's given us currency to do things with. I see so many people where money is an issue. I do work for Tonya Rineer who is a money mindset coach and maybe that's why these things are at the forefront of my mind because of that awareness and how people look at money, but regardless, money is important to us as business owners. Tonya is a lot on the woo woo side so if you want to check her out, you can find her here. First I'm going to read to you out of my devotional, Created for This. Money is important. I wouldn't be sitting in my house if I didn't have money. We need it and that's why I'm talking about it. We need to make a profit or our business would be a hobby. The Proverbs 31 woman knows this and when she finds that her work is profitable, she doesn't stop working. And she's profitable. Then she gives money to the poor. This theme of giving money continues into Romans 12:13. We're able to give money we earn to others. Our business is not just about us. It can be used by God. But we must not make more of the gift than the gift giver. As Christian business owners, we don't need to be afraid of money, we can show godly wisdom as we handle our money. I love the fact that money allows us to give money to others. While I was a missionary, I learned how big of a blessing it is for missionaries to receive support from others. I want to talk about how we view money, I'm reading out of Luke 12:13-24. Life is more than our possessions. Saving for life, saving for retirement is a good thing, but when we start putting money before our relationship with God, that's not a good thing. We see a good biblical representation of money. I love how in Luke it says, abundance is more than possessions. I've been preparing for an abundance workshop. It's something that the world has taken and twisted a little bit. In my new book, I'm writing about topics that are important to the Christian faith and in the business world. As we look at money, what I want to highlight for you guys is that money is okay. Money is good. Money allows us to do so many things. I want you to stop looking at money as something is bad. God doesn't say that money is bad. It can be when we place money over our relationship with God. It can be when strive to attain wealth. We need to start looking at money as a tool that God has given us so we can work in the lives of other people. I want you guys to be like 'Have you heard that one about money? Money's good you guys.' There are so many times when money has been a source of anxiety in my own life. But God always provides. There have been times when I've seen God bless people with money, whether bills get paid by other people or we get a job when we need it. God sees that money is stressful because he sees us struggling over it. God will put us in situations where God will have us rely on him. As he sees our faithfulness and as we return to him, we're able to move forward and have a greater trust in him. I'd love for you to join me for the abundance workshop. It has blessed my socks off learning about true abundance. I can't wait to share it with you. Bible verses used: Proverbs 31:18-20 Romans 12:13 Matthew 6:19-24 Luke 12:13-21 Abundance workshop May 14-18. We're walking through what biblical abundance looks like, why it matters, what it means in our businesses and how to move forward in true abundance. Sign up now. I’m excited to bring you this Episode #23 of the Mother’s Quest Podcast. I’m just back from an amazing week at one of my most favorite places, UCLA’s Bruin Woods Family Camp in Lake Arrowhead, where I felt like I had an amazing reset…a chance to unplug and notice some patterns from a fresh perspective. It’s so perfect then, that I came back to put the finishing touches on this episode with author of the Miracle Morning for Parents and Families, Lindsay McCarthy. I’ve been wanting to have Lindsay on the podcast for a while now; I knew I had a lot to learn from her about how to change my relationship with mornings, but I didn’t realize our conversation would inspire a collaborative 30 day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge that will start Monday, July 17th. Lindsay is a wife and homeschool mom of two kids. She is the co-author of The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families, has a facebook community of the same name, and is creator of GratefulParent.com where she blogs. Lindsay and I have a lot in common in that neither of us could have imagined we would step into owning and sharing our voice and our story with others until fairly recently, she through her book and me through the podcast. We go deep in this conversation about the epic journey that brought Lindsay from attending a conference where she met Miracle Morning author Hal Alred to essentially writing a manual for bringing the Miracle Morning practice to parents and families. We talk about our mutual love of frameworks and acronyms and how she and her husband adapted the Miracle Morning’s SAVERS to create their own acronym, CHARMS, which brings Creativity, Health, Affirmations, Reading, Meditation, and Service to her children every morning. I love how Lindsay brings intentionality and mindfulness to her parenting and how she’s living her own version of an E.P.I.C. life, one rooted in being an amazing mom and co-creating incredible learning experiences for her children. She helped me change my perception of what homeschooling can look like and realize that we are all like a homeschooling mom when we seek opportunities for our children to pursue their curiosity and passions. I’m also impressed by how committed Lindsay is to this Miracle Morning practice which has dramatically changed her family’s life and the lives of so many others through her book and group. I’m thrilled I finally got a chance to talk with Lindsay and that together we will create this collaborative challenge. I have a strong feeling that this Miracle Morning practice will make a huge difference for me and I know I need some support and accountability to make it happen. I can’t imagine a better guide than Lindsay and I hope you’ll choose to come along with us. This Week’s Challenge: Join us for the 30-Day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge. Sign up to follow us with daily prompts and reflections in the Mother’s Quest Facebook Group. Topics discussed in this episode: Lindsay’s mother modeled creating opportunities for her children by setting up a field hockey team for her and other girls in their community. How attending Hal Elrod’s One Life Fully Lived conference in 2014 provided an opportunity for Lindsay to create what became like an operating manual for her family The importance of having a morning practice. How the C.H.A.R.M.S. (Creativity, Health, Affirmations, Reading, Meditation, Service) framework works in their family and how it can be adapted for other families. Tips on “Habit Stacking” and adding mindfulness and purpose to everyday activities. Working with a spiritual coach to support self discovery. Slowing down to have the space to create what you truly want. How Lindsay came to homeschooling her children, how she accesses other resources outside of her home as part of that, and how we are all homeschoolers in some way with our children Resources mentioned in this episode: The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families: How to Bring Out the Best in Your KIDS and Your SELF by Hal Elrod, Mike & Lindsay McCarthy The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM) by Hal Elrod One Life Fully Lived Conference Gobundance, the company and mastermind of Mike, Lindsay’s husband Spirit Coach Training with Jenai Lane, Lindsay’s spiritual coach Make Me App Grateful Parent, Lindsay’s blog The Miracle Morning for PARENTS & FAMILIES Facebook Community The Miracle Morning Community 30-Day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge at the Facebook Group Announcements If you haven’t yet visited the website, head over to www.mothersquest.com to explore some of the ways you can get more connected. Sometimes it's hard to let go of the things that are holding us back. Did you know that there are four emotions evoked through the money block process? Find out from me, Tonya Rineer, how to move past your money blocks and into abundance. IN THIS EPISODE 0:17 I'd love to have a little chat with you about your money blocks. Are you embracing them? Are you hanging on to them without even knowing it? Sometimes we hang on to things that are toxic. 1:18 We hang on to things that aren't serving us anymore. We get rid of buzz kills that don't pick us up and make us feel good. 1:54 Marie Kondo has you hold things in your hand and ask "does this make me feel good." How do you identify those things we hang on to? Let's talk about it. 2:32 Anytime we hang on to something that doesn't serve us it's because it's comfortable or there's a little bit of hope. Although you're not happy where you're at, it's comfortable. You choose where you're at in this relationship as an alternative situation that it could be worse. 3:35 What you are avoiding are four emotions: uncertainty, boredom, significance, and love and connection. 4:30 Our subconscious protects us from uncertainty because it's been programmed hundreds of years ago. It's keeping us in our safety zone. 5:05 Our minds, because they want us to feel a little adrenaline once in a while, as entrepreneurs, we love to have that adrenaline. You might lose interest in things, you don't finish things and maybe you've grown during the process and you decide that your thing isn't good enough so you don't finish it. 6:55 The need for significance and we want people to desire us. We don't want to feel like we aren't good enough. That's where imposter syndrome comes up and we start to feel like we're walking out of our comfort zone. Your comfort zone is where you feel like people know that you're reputable. But when you start walking into different things, that's where you worry that people don't think you know what you're talking about. 9:00 Significance also makes us worry about growing. 9:18 The need for love and connection can be traced back to the fact that we're tribe animals. We need that connection to people. We need that sense of belonging and fitting in. I've always had a hard time fitting in and this pulls at my heart when people have money blocks because they don't want to stand out and be different. 11:27 The fear of being different really comes into play when it comes to tooting your own horn. Why do you have such a hard time of putting yourself out there? Because you don't want to make someone else feel bad. It goes back to significance and the need for significance. Our subconscious mind is protecting us from putting distance between those people and losing that connection. We're programmed to not lose those connections. 13:56 Outside of the box is where the magic happens. You can step off the ledge with the intention to serve and give and create an impact. The universe will help you in your endeavors when they are well intended. 14:37 What is keeping you from stepping out there and growing your business? If you need help, come over to our Facebook community and get help. [bctt tweet="Sometimes we hang on to things that are toxic. Are you letting go, or are you holding tightly to negative thoughts and bringing your vibe down? Have you thought about what's your vibe coming across as desperate or are you relaxed and welcoming any money coming your way? Go a little deeper in this episode with me, Tonya Rineer, as we create higher vibes through letting go. THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY: THE PROFIT PARTY ACADEMY If you've been in business for a few years and have hit a plateau, you're ready to make more money, and you're stuck, Tonya Rineer's Profit Party Academy is designed specifically for you. She wants to help you break down limiting beliefs and mindset blocks to set you up to rock in your business. The group academy will be a mix of group calls, mastermind and calls with Tonya. If you want more information, RSVP for her Profit Party Academy. IN THIS EPISODE 2:02 I want to dig into emotions and feelings - do they match? We so often think we believe that things are happening in our favor that clients are coming our way and that we'll have enough money to pay off all our bills. We hear things like me telling you what to believe, and to tell the universe what you want, but do you really believe it? Is there an undertone of worry? Are you telling yourself that it would be really nice to have three more clients this week, are you thinking about not having them, or are you thinking about what it would be like to work with them? Are you telling yourself that it would be really nice to have three more clients this week, are you thinking about not having them, or are you thinking about what it would be like to work with them? 3:44 Good things are happening as long as you're thinking positive thoughts about what it would be like to having those clients. 4:08 There's a balance that has to take place between thinking about have them and letting go and letting it happen. If you're clinging too tightly to what you want and what you desire, you're not giving the universe space to bring it to you. You have to know and trust that it will happen. Focus on the positive and the good things that are happening. 5:45 Focus on what is good. Focus on what it's like to have one client, to have the money to buy your daughter an ice cream cone. There are some people who would die to be where you're at right now. 6:43 In the challenge we just did in our private Facebook group, we talked about the emotional guidance scale. If you're feeling disappointment, insecure, desperate, you're going to attract situations that confirm those feelings. Using my son and his recent date is an example of the difference between being confident and thinking consistently about being confident. You can't think consistently about it because it needs the breathing room to come to you. 10:25 Think about it: what's your vibe coming across as desperate or are you relaxed and welcoming any money coming your way because you know that you're going to deliver great value? That's how businesses work. You want people to value you. People want to be a part of something positive. You have to be positive to attract people who want to be a part of that. 11:43 What level are you at right now? Do you have positive expectations about what's going to happen in your business. If not, you need to go through that challenge. You can sign up for the list and I'll run it again so you can go through it.
