This is part four of the High Functioning Christian Women in Destructive Marriages series, and today we talk about a concept that ties the whole series together: sovereignty. Synonyms for sovereignty include: freedom, autonomy, and independence. If you've spent years managing everyone's needs, shrinking your own, and building an identity around your capacity to give without limit, this episode will challenge a misunderstood theology that was never meant for women who are already pouring out from an empty cup.
A random conversation at a Thai restaurant turned into one of the most powerful reminders I've had in a while — that there's a massive difference between living in your calling and just working a job. In this episode, I break down why so many people are unhappy, what it means to identify your gifts and use them, and why true happiness has to start from the inside before anything outside of you can matter. The vehicle you use to get there may change, but your mission never should. Key Takeaways There are two types of career paths: a calling that aligns with your natural gifts, and a job that someone else told you to pursue. One fuels you, the other drains you. Your "opportunity tool belt" — the skills, gifts, and traits unique to you — must be identified and used in whatever path you choose. A major source of unhappiness is living in the past or the future instead of being present. Neither the past nor the distant future is real in the way right now is. True happiness starts with being able to sit alone, without distractions, and genuinely be at peace with who you are in that moment. Your vehicle — your career, your circle, your circumstances — will change. But your core mission, rooted in your gifts and what you can do for others, should never change. Action Steps Spend intentional time alone this week without your phone, TV, or internet and honestly assess how you feel about the person sitting there. That discomfort is your starting point. Write out your personal "opportunity tool belt" — list your top five natural gifts, skills, and traits and then ask whether your current career path actually uses them. Identify your core mission. Strip away your job title, your degrees, and your resume, and ask yourself what you are fundamentally here to do for others. Anchor everything to that. Notable Quote The peace that you find on top of a mountain is the peace that you brought there.
A lunch conversation about parachute testers completely changed the way I think about contingency plans and pursuing your goals. If someone can jump out of a plane knowing their parachute won't open and still trust the process, you can handle your plan A not working out. In this episode, I break down why having a backup route to your dream is not weakness — it's wisdom. Key Takeaways There is literally a career path for every passion — stop calling your dream stupid before you even try. Parachute testers jump knowing plan A will fail, but they trust plan B completely — that mindset is everything. Having a plan B is not abandoning your goal, it is finding a different route to the same destination. Too many people quit when plan A fails because they told everyone it would work that way — you have to detach your ego from the method. At some point on the journey, you have to break away from the pack and trust your own process to land safely. Action Steps Write down your current plan A goal and then brainstorm at least two alternative routes to reach that same outcome if plan A gets blocked. Identify one place in your life where ego is stopping you from pivoting — then make the decision to let the method go but keep the mission. Adopt a "by any means" mindset: commit to the destination, not the specific road you originally planned to take. Notable Quote Your job is to get to the goal. The parachute tester's job is to get to the ground safely — they don't say plan A didn't work, so I'll just bounce off the ground and keep going.
Ever wondered what really happens when companies offer to "buy your life insurance policy" or your annuity payments? In this episode, Stan "The Annuity Man" pulls back the curtain on life insurance death bonds, secondary market annuities, and the ethical gray areas you need to understand before you cash out. In this episode, The Annuity Man discussed: Life insurance death bonds explained How companies buy life insurance policies and death benefits 1035 exchanges and moving life insurance cash value into annuities Secondary market annuities, structured settlements, and legal pitfalls Tax treatment differences and the PILL framework for evaluating annuities Key Takeaways: There's an active market where companies buy the rights to life insurance death benefits, paying policyholders a lump sum today and then waiting to collect the tax-free payout when they die. A 1035 exchange allows you to move cash value from life insurance into an annuity without triggering taxes, but you must understand that tapping that cash value as a "loan" is not the same thing as tax-free income. The secondary market for annuities and structured settlements has seen significant ethical and regulatory concerns, so anyone considering selling those income streams should proceed with caution. Life insurance death benefits are tax-free and probate-free to beneficiaries, but annuity death benefits issued by the same life insurance companies do not receive the same tax treatment. Before buying an annuity, you should clearly define what you want your money to do contractually and when you want those guarantees to start; only then can you determine if an annuity fits your needs under the PILL framework. This week, I talk about the truth behind anxiety that most people avoid — the role we play in our own suffering. For a long time, I was stuck in cycles of overthinking, replaying the past, and carrying emotional weight I didn't even realise I was holding onto. But there's a difference between healing and holding on, between feeling and reliving. This episode is a reminder that peace doesn't come from control or avoidance, it comes from learning to release what's no longer meant to be carried. KEY TAKEAWAYS There's a difference between healing and holding on. Processing your past is necessary, but replaying it over and over keeps you stuck in the same cycle of anxiety. Anxiety is often the weight of what hasn't been released. Unprocessed emotions, old stories, and past experiences build up in the body and mind — and show up as overwhelm, tension, and fear. Letting go is a choice — and it's where freedom begins. You don't have to stay loyal to your past. Releasing what no longer serves you creates space for peace, growth, and a new way of living. ou don't need another funnel. You don't need another strategy. Because if strategy alone worked… you'd already be where you want to be. The truth? Most entrepreneurs aren't stuck because they don't know enough, they're stuck because they're building on shaky foundations. And until that changes… nothing else will. In this powerful conversation, George sits down with marketing expert Landon Poburan to dismantle one of the biggest myths in entrepreneurship: that success comes from finding the “right” strategy. After managing millions in ad spend and testing countless approaches, Landon shares the truth most people avoid, there is no universal formula. What actually drives results are the fundamentals beneath the surface: your offer, your messaging, your positioning, and your business model. Together, they explore why so many entrepreneurs chase tactics instead of fixing the root issues and how that leads to burnout, inconsistency, and plateaued growth. This episode is a deep recalibration. A reminder that sustainable success doesn't come from doing more, it comes from building better. What You'll Learn In This Episode: Why chasing strategies keeps entrepreneurs stuck The real reason ads, funnels, and tactics stop working How your offer and positioning impact everything downstream Why complexity kills scalability (and what to do instead) The role of economics in building a sustainable business How to future-proof your business against algorithm changes and AI The difference between a profitable business and a peaceful one How to simplify your growth strategy without sacrificing results Key Takeaways: ✔️There is no “perfect strategy”, only aligned fundamentals. ✔️Ad performance is a reflection of your business, not your ads. ✔️Fixing your offer solves more problems than any funnel ever will. ✔️Complexity creates friction, confusion, and burnout. ✔️Simplicity scales. Complexity breaks. ✔️Rising costs and AI shifts make weak foundations more visible than ever. ✔️Most businesses don't need more inputs, they need better design. ✔️Build a business you don't need to escape from. If you've ever felt like you're grinding every single day while people around you who aren't working as hard seem to be getting all the results, this episode is your wake-up call. I break down the parable of the bamboo and the fern to show you that what looks like falling behind is actually the foundation being built for something far greater. You're not losing — you're growing roots that will take you to heights others will never reach. Key Takeaways There is a massive difference between people actually winning and it just seeming like they're winning. The bamboo spends five years growing deep roots underground before it shoots up 90 feet — real growth takes real time. If you grow too fast without a deep foundation, the first sign of adversity will knock you flat. Other people's early success is often their ceiling, not a sign that you're behind. Life is a long game — sustainable success beats the appearance of success every single time. Action Steps Identify your source — whether it's faith, purpose, or a core value — and intentionally connect to it daily so your foundation stays strong. Stop measuring your progress against what others appear to have and instead ask yourself: am I actually growing today? Commit to playing the long game by focusing on depth of character, skill, and preparation before chasing outward results. Notable Quote I can only grow as far as I'm grounded.
If you're grinding harder than ever but not seeing the growth you expected, this episode will hit home. Chris breaks down the hard truth every real estate agent eventually faces: working more hours won't scale your business. And at a certain point, it actually starts costing you money.Chris shares the pivotal moment when he pushed harder than ever only to see minimal growth, and how that led to a complete shift in how he thinks about time, leverage, and relationships. From there, he dives into how top producers truly scale by doing what matters most.He also unpacks how AI is changing the game, from acting as a personal business coach to helping agents write better emails, analyze calls, and even generate new conversations at scale. If you're stuck in hustle mode and ready to break through your ceiling, this episode will show you how to start working smarter—right now.Key Takeaways There's a ceiling where working harder stops producing results Scaling requires a shift from effort → leverageTime management is the ultimate growth lever One strategic relationship can outperform hundreds of cold calls The future of real estate is in empowering them with better toolsConnect with Chris:Instagram: @craddrockFacebook: Chris CraddockResources:
To speak with an advisor and map out your student's next steps, book a Complimentary Strategy Call at admittedly.co/apply. In this episode of the Admittedly Podcast, Thomas Caleel breaks down one of the most misunderstood parts of college admissions: extracurricular activities. Families often believe there is a "perfect list" of activities that guarantees admission to selective colleges. In reality, admissions officers are not evaluating what students do, they are evaluating how students engage. Thomas explains why depth, ownership, and genuine curiosity matter far more than checking boxes, and why students often weaken their applications by spreading themselves too thin. He discusses the difference between performative activities and meaningful experiences, how to think strategically about summer programs, and why real-world experiences like part-time jobs often provide stronger signals than expensive enrichment programs. Listeners will learn how to evaluate activities through the lens of academic interests, how to refine involvement over time, and why intentional engagement is one of the strongest ways students can stand out in an increasingly competitive applicant pool. Key Takeaways • There is no universal "best" extracurricular list for college admissions. • Admissions officers evaluate depth, initiative, and impact... not just participation. • Doing fewer activities with greater intentionality often produces stronger outcomes. • Summer programs only add value when they connect to broader intellectual exploration. • Entry-level jobs can demonstrate responsibility, resilience, and real-world maturity. • Students should pursue activities aligned with genuine academic curiosity. • Authentic engagement is far more compelling than performative résumé-building. Strong extracurricular profiles are built through curiosity, ownership, and sustained engagement over time. Students who pursue meaningful experiences develop both stronger applications and stronger preparation for college-level work and independence. Released during Alcohol Awareness Month, this conversation highlights how Moderation Management offers free meetings, online community, and practical programs that help people take the next step toward a healthier, more peaceful relationship with alcohol. In This Episode, You'll Hear: What Alcohol Awareness Month can mean beyond traditional recovery narratives How Andrea Payne found Moderation Management while looking for support to reduce drinking, not necessarily quit forever Why community and connection are often the missing piece for people trying to change their drinking habits How Moderation Management helps people explore moderation, abstinence, or drinking less without judgment What makes Moderation Management different, including free meetings, online support, and Kickstart programs Why meeting yourself where you are is one of the most important parts of lasting change Key Takeaways There is no one-size-fits-all path for changing your relationship with alcohol You do not need to identify with a specific label to get support Free, accessible alcohol support exists Community can make it easier to build momentum and stay engaged Small steps matter when you are trying to drink less or create long-term change About Andrea Pain and Moderation Management Andrea Pain is the Executive Director of Moderation Management Her journey began when she wanted support for changing her drinking habits without committing to an abstinence-only path After discovering the organization's Facebook group and resources, she became involved as a meeting leader, volunteer, program manager, and eventually Executive Director Today, Moderation Management offers free meetings, a large online community, and self-guided or seasonal Kickstart programs designed to help people reduce drinking and build healthier habits Resources MentionedModeration ManagementFree online meetings Kickstart programs Facebook support community Andrea Pain: andrea@moderation.orgWhy This Episode MattersIf you have been searching for ways to drink less, change your drinking habits, or find alcohol support without an all-or-nothing approach, this episode offers a practical and encouraging starting point. Molly and Andrea both reinforce the same core message: start where you are, take one step, and keep going.Low risk drinking guidelines from the NIAAA:Healthy men under 65:No more than 4 drinks in one day and no more than 14 drinks per week.Healthy women (all ages) and healthy men 65 and older:No more than 3 drinks in one day and no more than 7 drinks per week. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. So remember that a mixed drink or full glass of wine are probably more than one drink.Abstinence from alcoholAbstinence from alcohol is the best choice for people who take medication(s) that interact with alcohol, have health conditions that could be exacerbated by alcohol (e.g. liver disease), are pregnant or may become pregnant or have had a problem with alcohol or another substance in the past.Benefits of “low-risk” drinkingFollowing these guidelines reduces the risk of health problems such as cancer, liver disease, reduced immunity, ulcers, sleep problems, complications of existing conditions, and more. It also reduces the risk of depression, social problems, and difficulties at school or work. ★ Support this podcast ★

Teaser I didn't swing a single club for two days — and walked away a better golfer. I thought a caddy just carried the bag. I was wrong about almost everything. Spending two days inside the ropes with elite junior golfers didn't just change how I see golf — it changed how I see the pursuit of excellence in anything. These kids aren't just hitting shots. They're solving math problems, managing routines, and operating at a level of precision that's completely invisible until you're standing right next to it. In episode #1493, I break down what proximity to greatness teaches you that YouTube never will — and why the routines of elite performers are the real secret hiding in plain sight. You don't have to be the best in the room. You just have to get in the right room. Hit play. Then find your room. Who This Episode Is For If you've been trying to level up from a distance — this one's for you. Key Takeaways There are always more levels above you — and the higher you go, the more precision, pressure, and skill the game demands Proximity to greatness teaches you things elite performers don't even know they're teaching — nuances no interview or video will ever capture You absorb the standards of the people you're around. Get around people performing at the level you want to reach. Elite performers have elite routines — and when they break the routine, the performance breaks with it Appreciation for mastery is itself a growth tool — when you truly see what greatness requires, it recalibrates your own standards Questions for Reflection Who are the most elite performers in your field — and how close are you actually getting to them? What routines do you have around the things that matter most in your life — and are they sharp enough to keep you locked in under pressure? Are you judging the ceiling of your industry by the level you're currently at — without realizing how many levels exist above you? Action Steps Identify one person who is operating at the level you want to reach. Find a way to get in proximity — an event, a mentorship, a conversation. Watching from a distance is not the same thing. Map out your pre-performance routine for your most important daily work. If you don't have one, build one this week and commit to it for 30 days. The next time you're around someone exceptional at their craft, stop performing and start observing. What are they doing that they're not even conscious of? Featured Quote "You'll pick up things from people who perform at a high level that they might not even know they do. That's what proximity to greatness actually gives you."
Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family
Summary There is so much noise in the world of parenting today, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by pressure, comparison, and fear. In this episode, Mike and Alicia remind parents that there is not just one way to raise a family well. God has given you the grace for your mission, and your job is not to control your children or guarantee outcomes. Your call is to build a strong marriage, create a healthy home, communicate your values, and allow God to use family life to make you holy. Parenting is not about perfection — it is about faithfulness. Key Takeaways There is not just one right way to be a good parent. God gives you the grace for the family and mission He has entrusted to you. Your marriage must remain the foundation of your family. A child-centered family creates unhealthy pressure and instability. Your children have free will, so parenting is about faithfulness, not control. Parenting is one of the primary ways God makes us holy through sacrifice and love. You are irreplaceable in the life of your child and responsible for forming the culture of your home. Couple Discussion Questions Where do we feel the most pressure or insecurity in our parenting right now? In what ways can we strengthen our marriage as the foundation of our family life? Are there any ways our home has become too child-centered? What values are we most trying to communicate to our children? How might God be using parenting to refine us and make us holy?

In this Global Insight episode of On Aon, Tim Fletcher, national practice leader for the Financial Services Group for Aon, sits down with John King, senior vice president, global treasurer and head of portfolio strategy for Aon, to unpack the rapidly evolving world of stablecoins. Tim and John examine stablecoins as a practical payments and operating model issue and dive into how they work, what differentiates them from other digital assets and why they're increasingly on the agenda for treasurers, risk leaders and boards navigating global liquidity, regulation and cross-border payments. Key Takeaways: There has been a convergence of factors driving stablecoin adoption: pressure on traditional payment options, demand for faster and cheaper cross-border transactions and the maturation of the digital asset ecosystem. Regulatory frameworks for stablecoin are becoming more defined: governments are starting to set expectations around reserves, governance and oversight. Even for those organizations that don't see themselves as “crypto players,” stablecoin still matters: it touches core concerns such as payment efficiency, liquidity management and operational resilience. Experts in this episode: Tim Fletcher, national practice leader, Financial Services Group, Aon John King, senior vice president, global treasurer and head of portfolio strategy, Aon Key moments: (1:50) Tim and John explain what stablecoin is and isn't — it's a digital token designed to maintain a stable value, functioning more like a payment or settlement instrument than an investment asset. (3:30) Organizations are now viewing stablecoin as a payments and settlement infrastructure, especially for cross‑border transactions, treasury operations and liquidity management. (8:15) Stablecoin is not a universal solution and leaders need to weigh complexity against any proven upside. How can you start your generosity journey now with the budget you currently have?In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Ivan discuss: Learning from all work experiences.Lessons from living upside down.Navigating partnerships.Starting your generosity path early - and bringing your family into your giving at all levels. Key Takeaways: There is no need to go into debt to fund your lifestyle. When working with others, the sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts. But recognize there will be challenges and debates, and see the blessings in each other's strengths.Give before you're ready. Start small and increase incrementally, even if only 1% annually.Sharpen your iron around those who are also doing great things around you. Build a community of strong individuals around you to raise and strengthen one another. "I would be an evangelist for peer groups, whether they are faith-based or not. Of course, faith-based is a plus, but getting around some like-minded individuals that are going through the same thing I am, and having a group that I can talk to and be vulnerable with, and then mirroring that with some sort of coaching or mentorship or advising. Those two aspects have been rocket fuel for my trajectory." — Ivan Barratt Episode References: Firefly IN: https://fireflyin.org/ About Ivan Barratt: Ivan Barratt is a 25-year real estate veteran and the founder and CEO of The BAM Companies. JOIN "THE REBUILT MAN" ON SKOOL - ▶️ www.skool.com/rebootyourlife In this powerful episode of The Rebuilt Man Podcast, Coach Frank Rich confronts one of the most uncomfortable truths in addiction recovery: most men aren't stuck because they're weak — they're stuck because they're not truly ready to be free. Frank explores the internal split many men experience — the version of themselves they present to the world versus the version that shows up in private — and explains why porn survives in that gap of identity. Through direct, honest teaching, Frank breaks down the 10 clear signs that a man is actually ready to quit porn, emphasizing that lasting freedom doesn't come from willpower, hacks, or streaks, but from identity transformation, ownership, structure, and brotherhood. This episode is for the man who's tired of relapsing, tired of hiding, and ready to stop negotiating with the life he knows he's meant to live. If you've ever said, "Why do I keep going back?" — this conversation will give you the clarity you've been missing. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why most men want relief from guilt, not real freedom The dangerous lie of "it's not that bad" The difference between behavior change and identity change Why you can't quit something you're still emotionally attached to How victim mindset silently sabotages progress Why discomfort is part of every real transformation The role of structure, discipline, and accountability in lasting freedom How isolation fuels addiction — and brotherhood breaks it Why deciding to change is more powerful than trying Key Takeaways There are two versions of most men: the daytime man and the nighttime man Porn thrives in secrecy and identity fragmentation You can't quit what you're still protecting Freedom requires ownership, not excuses Real transformation demands sacrifice and discomfort Information doesn't change men — identity does Hope must replace resignation before behavior can change Accountability is essential for lasting freedom Motivation fades, but structure protects Decision is the turning point of every transformation Ready to Stop Fighting and Start Becoming Free? In this episode, Therese Markow, Dr. Jerald Kay, and Dr. Joel Yager discuss the various forms of ambition: lack of ambition, mismatched ambition, Machiavellian ambition, and how to deal with malignant narcissists. Key Takeaways: There are biological underpinnings to ambition, but much of what we know about ambition is built on repeated interactions as children. Not everyone who is Machiavellian is ambitious. Not everyone ambitious is Machiavellian. But when you have people who have dark triad characteristics, it can mean trouble for those around them. There are levels of narcissism. Only some are treatable. The last division of severe narcissism is called malignant personality disorder and is relatively untreatable. "It's both nature and nurture. We know ambition runs in families. And we know kids that are adopted into families with ambitious parents turn out to be more ambitious than if they weren't adopted into those kinds of families." — Dr. Joel Yager Episode References: https://journals.lww.com/jonmd/fulltext/2023/04000/ambition_and_its_psychopathologies.1.aspx Connect with Therese: Website: www.criticallyspeaking.net Bluesky: @CriticallySpeaking.bsky.social Instagram: @criticallyspeakingpodcast Email: theresemarkow@criticallyspeaking.net Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. In this episode, Therese Markow and Dr. Tami Rowen discuss menopause, perimenopause, and hormone therapy. She explains that menopause is defined as one year without a period, while perimenopause can last up to 10 years with symptoms like mood changes and menstrual irregularities. Dr. Rowen discusses the changes in FSH levels and how to understand what the levels mean across time, and why they may not be as helpful as you think. She also explains how hormone therapy can alleviate symptoms and prevent osteoporosis, and that bioidentical hormones are preferred for their safety and efficacy. Finally, she cautions that social media can spread both accurate and misleading information about menopause and hormone therapy. Key Takeaways: There is a debate over whether or not there is a cardiovascular benefit to starting hormone therapy early. While several studies suggest there may be a benefit, all the current guidelines recommend against using hormone therapy specifically for the prevention of heart disease. When somebody enters menopause or post-menopause, there is no significant change in their testosterone levels. However, testosterone will be lower than when someone was in their 20s. The majority of people giving information about menopause are not healthcare providers. Oftentimes, when they are discussing hormone therapy, some of the risks get missed, some of the benefits get overblown, and many are left believing hormone therapy will be a cure-all. "Anytime someone makes a definitive statement, I would take it with a grain of salt and just know that there's oftentimes nuance to recommendations and guidance, and I would encourage all women to seek out a provider that is familiar with the data." — Dr. Tami Rowen Connect with Dr. Tami Rowen: Professional Bio: https://profiles.ucsf.edu/tami.rowen Website: https://www.ucsfhealth.org/providers/tami-rowen Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drtamirowen/ Connect with Therese: Website: www.criticallyspeaking.net Threads: @critically_speaking Instagram: @criticallyspeakingpodcast Email: theresemarkow@criticallyspeaking.net Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Lucinda welcomes Tabbin Almond, author of "Bottling Up Trouble," to discuss the impact of alcohol in the workplace. As the holiday season approaches, they explore the cultural norms surrounding drinking, particularly in corporate settings, and the challenges faced by individuals struggling with alcohol use. Tabbin shares a personal journey to becoming alcohol-free and highlights the stigma that prevents many from seeking help. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is a pressing need to change workplace cultures that encourage excessive drinking, as many individuals feel pressured to conform to alcohol-related social norms, which can lead to serious personal and professional issues. Individuals struggling with alcohol use often feel shame and stigma, making it difficult for them to seek help. Coaching can provide a supportive environment where they can regain control and learn to live alcohol-free Younger generations, particularly Gen Z, are drinking less and are more aware of mental health issues. As they rise to senior positions, they are likely to influence workplace cultures towards healthier practices Organisations should prioritise inclusivity at events, such as Christmas parties, by providing a wide range of appealing non-alcoholic options and ensuring that alcohol does not dominate the event's focus BEST MOMENTS "There's so much shame and stigma around having a problem with alcohol that they can't ask for help. They fear that if they say they've got a problem, they will be branded forevermore." "The younger generation are much more aware of their mental health and proactive in looking after it. They understand that alcohol can never relieve depression or stress; it can only make them worse." "We need to change the culture. We're encouraged to drink by society, but if someone gets into trouble, it's only the individual's fault." "Think before automatically using alcohol to help people bond at work. Be more creative and ask, 'Isn't there something better we could do?'" In this episode, Therese Markow and Dr. Lucas F.W. Wilson discuss his book, Shame-Sex Attraction, which explores the experiences of conversion therapy survivors. Lucas explains that conversion therapy aims to change sexual orientation or gender identity, despite its ineffectiveness and harmful nature. He traces the history of conversion practices from the 1800s to the present, highlighting various methods like electroshock therapy and aversion therapy, and their rapid growth after 1976 up through the heyday in the early 2000s. Dr. Wilson shares his personal journey through conversion therapy at Liberty University and emphasizes the broader impact of conversion practices on societal beliefs and individual identities. He advocates for empathy and understanding to challenge these practices. Key Takeaways: There are no known cases where conversion therapy has actually changed someone's sexual attraction. While there is anecdotal evidence from the organizations perpetuating the claims, research shows that it is not effective. "Pastoral Counseling" and other similar phrases are used to mask or obfuscate the practice of conversion therapy to hide the work that is being done. There is no typical or standard conversion therapy. The experiences range widely from person to person. Conversion practices can be seen throughout many, if not all, people's lives, even if they've never been to official conversion therapy, nor is it solely for those who are part of the queer or religious community. It is important to engage with ideas and communities that are different from your own. "I would argue that probably every single person in this world at some point has been told 'don't act like this,' whether they were a kid or older, and that message has stayed with them and affected how they present their gender and how they identify." — Dr. Lucas F.W. Did you know there's more than $40 trillion sitting in U.S. retirement accounts — most of which could be invested in real estate? In this episode, Michael Blank chats with Karen Hall, Founder of uDirect IRA and author of The BiggerPockets Guide to Self-Directed IRA Investing, to break down the rules, tax implications, and best practices that allow investors to use their retirement funds to participate in real estate syndications. Whether you're a GP raising capital or an LP investing passively, this conversation will help you unlock one of the biggest capital sources in the world.Key Takeaways: There is $40 trillion in retirement accounts — a huge capital pool most investors overlook. Self-directed IRAs can invest in syndications, rentals, notes, crypto, precious metals, and more. The IRS has prohibited transaction rules — keep investments arm's length to avoid penalties. UBIT/UDFI taxes can apply when leverage is involved — tax advisors are essential. A solo 401(k) can reduce some debt-related tax exposure. Recent laws may allow employer 401(k)s to include alternative investment funds, opening the door wider. Always ask investors: “Do you have retirement funds?” — because most won't think of it themselves.Connect with MichaelFacebookInstagramYouTubeTikTokResourcesTheFreedomPodcast.com Access the #1 FREE Apartment Investing Course (Apartments 101)Schedule a Free Strategy Session with Michael's Team of AdvisorsExplore Michael's Mentoring ProgramJoin the Nighthawk Equity Investor ClubReview the Podcast on Apple PodcastsSyndicated Deal AnalyzerGet the Book, Financial Freedom with Real Estate Investing by Michael Blank For full episode show notes visit: https://themichaelblank.com/podcasts/session498/
In this episode, Michael Rearden explores the concept of destiny and the choices that shape life's path. By recognizing the difference between complacency and growth, listeners are encouraged to write their own story and embrace a journey of purpose.
In this episode, Therese Markow and Dr. Joe Pierre discuss the phenomenon of false beliefs, as explored in his book, False. Joe explains the distinction between clinical delusions and delusion-like beliefs, emphasizing the continuum of belief conviction and the role of motivated reasoning. He highlights the impact of political affiliation on belief spread and the concept of "suicide by false belief." Joe also discusses the importance of intellectual humility, cognitive flexibility, and analytical thinking in combating misinformation. He notes Finland's success in addressing misinformation through societal education and advocates for a similar approach to foster a culture of truth. Key Takeaways: There is a spectrum of conviction when we are discussing delusion-like beliefs - such as conspiracy theories. Misinformation refers to information that isn't true. Disinformation is usually used to mean deliberate misinformation. Knowing the difference can be tricky because it relies on knowing the intent of the person spreading the misinformation. The Holy Trinity of Truth Detection is something people can learn and adopt - they aren't always intuitive. They must be learned and valued for people to adopt them. "False beliefs always have at least the potential for harm. They don't always cause harm, but they certainly carry the risk of harm. And these days, because of some of the false beliefs that are going around - like beliefs about vaccines or climate change denialism - I sometimes refer to what's going on right now as suicide by false belief, because these beliefs really are potentially dangerous." — Dr. Joe Pierre Connect with Dr. Joe Pierre: Professional Bio: https://drjoepierre.com/index.php/about/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/psychunseen/ Website: https://drjoepierre.com/ Book: https://drjoepierre.com/index.php/false/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joe-pierre-1b33469/ Connect with Therese: Website: www.criticallyspeaking.net Threads: @critically_speaking Email: theresemarkow@criticallyspeaking.net Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. From Radiologist to Global Health Coach Mentor: Dr. Shaunna Menard on Reinventing Purpose Beyond Medicine In this deeply inspiring episode of Life Beyond Clinical Practice, Dr. Diane Van Staden sits down with Dr. Shaunna Menard — a former radiologist turned international best-selling author, speaker, and founder of the Health Professional Academy. After 25 years in medicine, Dr. Shaunna reached a breaking point — torn between her desire to help others and a system that left her exhausted and unfulfilled. What began as a late-night search for meaning led her on a journey of transformation from “the photographer of disease” to a mentor helping health professionals worldwide build soul-aligned, profitable practices as health coaches. This conversation dives into the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of leaving a successful medical career, rediscovering purpose, and building a new path with freedom and impact at its core.
In this episode, I sit down with Frank Kendall and talk about one of the biggest traps in defense procurement — the endless search for “acquisition magic.” Frank exposes why every few years, someone promises a revolutionary new system to fix everything — and why those reforms almost always fail. From $30 billion MRAP programs that saved lives but were later abandoned, to R&D overruns averaging 25%, he lays out a brutally honest framework for how the government should manage risk, cost, and speed the right way. Key Takeaways: There's no such thing as acquisition magic — sustainable improvement comes from training, data, and risk management. The MRAP program cost $30B but proved that taking calculated risk can save lives when done strategically. Defense R&D programs average 25% overruns — but smart leadership can bring that down to 10% without killing innovation. Learn more: https://federalhelpcenter.com/ https://govcongiants.org/

In this episode, Therese Markow and Law Professor Anya Prince discuss the pros and cons of direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testing. DTC testing, which began in the 1990s and grew significantly by the 2010s, allows individuals to purchase genetic tests without a doctor's prescription. By 2021, 100 million people globally used DTC testing. Companies like 23andMe and Ancestry offer ancestry, health, and wellness information. However, concerns include data privacy, potential genetic discrimination, and the accuracy of health results. Professor Prince breaks down the 2023 data breach at 23andMe, discusses what DTC companies do with customer data (including DNA samples), and what third parties may be interested in the data collected by these companies. Key Takeaways: There are hundreds of DTC genetic testing companies out there with a variety of levels of security measures. Some are going to be more secure than others. Depending on which DTC company you use, some will destroy your genetic sample, but others may keep it indefinitely, potentially for future research and use. The US doesn't have any general data privacy protections, nor any broad genetic privacy action or protection. However, many states are beginning to pass general data protection laws. There is no right or wrong answer for participating in genetic testing. It is something each needs to weigh the pros and cons for themselves and understand what is important to them and the risks they are willing to take. "For the most part, DTC companies can do a lot with your data, and the customer doesn't have too much control over it. The main protection is a company's privacy policy." — Anya Prince Connect with Anya Prince: Professional Bio: https://law.uiowa.edu/people/anya-prince Publications: https://library.law.uiowa.edu/anya-er-prince LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anya-prince-3a06b171/ Connect with Therese: Website: www.criticallyspeaking.net Threads: @critically_speaking Email: theresemarkow@criticallyspeaking.net Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Chris Purser, a Ninja-powered agent from the beautiful city of Asheville, North Carolina, joins host Eric Thompson to share the story of his incredible success and pull back the curtain on a powerful strategy for getting a stalled listing sold. Chris details his journey from being a brand-new agent with no business to closing nearly $4 million in a single week, attributing his rapid growth to the Ninja system and dedicated coaching. The main event, however, is a deep dive into the “seller's offer,” also known as the “reverse offer.” Eric and Chris walk through a real-life case study of a luxury property that had been on the market for months with dwindling activity. Chris explains how he identified a motivated seller and an interested - but hesitant - buyer and used the seller's offer strategy to break the stalemate. He provides a step-by-step account of how he presented the concept to his clients, communicated with the buyer's agent, and used standard paperwork to get the ball rolling. Listen in for valuable insights into this creative tactic that can restart a conversation, give buyers a tangible starting point, and ultimately move a challenging property to the closing table. Episode Highlights: A seller's offer is a proactive strategy to engage a hesitant but interested buyer. Use this tactic when a listing is stalled, sellers are motivated, and a specific buyer is “kicking the tires” but won't make an offer. Present the strategy to your sellers as a creative, outside-the-box way to “move the needle.” The process uses the same standard offer paperwork you would use for a buyer-initiated offer, just with the seller initiating and signing first. This approach removes the buyer's fear of offending the seller with a low offer and provides a concrete starting point for negotiations. Clear communication with your broker, your seller, and the other agent is essential for success. This strategy can create a sense of urgency for other potential buyers by letting them know an offer is in play. Key Takeaways: "There had to be something that needed to be thought of outside the box to try to figure out how can we get this buyer off the fence and make a decision." "The explanation that we gave was, ‘Let's try to do something to try to get them to move the needle.'" "There was from the buyer an appreciation for us doing that, which was not something that I thought that would have happened, to be quite honest." "It did start a conversation that probably wouldn't have happened had we not gone ahead and made a reverse offer."
