Your brain isn't as rational as you think, and that blind spot can wreck your decision-making, relationships, and even your health. In this episode, you'll learn how to spot the hidden cognitive traps that even the smartest people fall for, and how to upgrade your thinking so you can perform better, live longer, and make choices that actually serve you. Watch the condensed video highlight version of this episode (and much more!) on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Steven Pinker, a world-renowned cognitive psychologist, Harvard professor, and bestselling author whose research reshaped how we understand language, bias, social norms, and rationality. Pinker's decades of scholarship make him a trusted guide to the mechanics of the mind and the behaviors that either elevate or derail human performance and longevity. Together they break down how the brain actually reasons, why smart people still fall for tribal thinking, what current AI gets wrong about human intelligence, and how “common knowledge” quietly governs cooperation, law, and civility. This is a masterclass in brain optimization through better thinking, built for people who care about biohacking, hacking mental models, neuroplasticity, and high-performance decision-making. You'll learn: • How to recognize and counter the “my-side bias,” even if you're highly intelligent • Why common knowledge creates and sustains social norms and coordination • The art of indirect speech and tact, and how to calibrate your words to reduce social risk • Simple upgrades that make video calls feel closer to real eye contact and why that boosts trust • What today's AI gets wrong about minds and why models hallucinate • Rational habits that work in the real world: steelmanning, probabilistic thinking, adversarial collaboration, and making bets as a tax on bad arguments • Why liberal democracy fits human nature better than autocracy and how norms erode or hold • How to rebuild face-to-face social skills in a screen-first culture to improve resilience and performance This is essential listening for fans of biohacking, brain optimization, human performance, neuroplasticity, and longevity who want clear, usable frameworks to think better and live better with Dave Asprey. Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade brings you the knowledge to take control of your biology, extend your longevity, and optimize every system in your body and mind. Each episode delivers cutting-edge insights in health, performance, neuroscience, supplements, nutrition, biohacking, emotional intelligence, and conscious living. REP E325. Outsmarting Your Brain: The Power of Saying the Fourth No

April Garcia's PivotMe

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 28, 2025 7:58

In this episode of PivotMe, April dives into one of the sneakiest ways we sabotage ourselves: saying yes after a string of no's. Our brains often trick us into believing we “deserve” a reward after sacrifice—even if that yes derails our goals. April shares how to recognize this moment of weakness, why it happens, and how to build the self-awareness needed to stay aligned with your bigger vision. She emphasizes the importance of being intentional in decision-making, ensuring that every yes or no moves you closer to the life and business you're building. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How your brain uses “rewards” to justify a yes after multiple no's. How to be intentional in decision-making and outsmart your brain. The power of saying the fourth no with the same energy as the first. Why awareness is the first step in stopping sabotage. Quote to Remember: “Your brain will try to trick you into a yes after sacrifice—but the true reward is staying aligned with your goals.” – April Key Takeaway: High performers don't just say no once—they say no consistently, even when their brain is screaming for an easy yes. That consistency is where the magic happens. ______________________________________

In his dynamic message titled “Outsmarting the Opps,” Pastor Terrance Wilson took us to John 7:1–13, where Jesus navigates intense pressure, opposition, and misunderstanding—even from His own family. As the Festival of Tabernacles approached, Jesus' brothers urged Him to publicly prove Himself, but He chose divine timing over public approval. Pastor Terrance reminded us that sometimes the greatest form of strength is restraint, and real power is found in walking in purpose—not performance. Jesus shows us how to move with wisdom in the face of threats, criticism, and spiritual opposition, demonstrating that God's plan will always prevail—even when it's not public, popular, or fully understood. When you're on divine assignment, you don't have to prove yourself—you just have to move with strategy, trust, and obedience.

How Tech-Driven Charities Like Helpster Are Outsmarting Medical Fraud to Deliver Real Impact

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

Guest post by Stanley Olisa Charity, at its heart, is about trust. Donors give with the hope that their generosity reaches those who truly need it. But in a world where even the most vulnerable sectors are not immune to deception, charity organisations, especially those funding medical services, must remain one step ahead of potential fraudsters. For tech-driven charities like Helpster Charity, ensuring every donation translates into genuine impact is a non-negotiable principle. The Hidden Risk: Fraud from 'Beneficiaries' When people think about fraud in the charity sector, they often imagine shady intermediaries or mismanaged funds. But increasingly, there is another, more complex challenge- fraud by supposed beneficiaries. In the realm of healthcare charities, this might include individuals falsifying medical documents, exaggerating health conditions or fabricating financial hardship to gain access to donated funds meant for life-saving treatment. For organisations funding medical services in developing regions, especially across Africa and Asia, the risks are real. With limited documentation, under-resourced hospitals and widespread poverty, it becomes difficult to verify each case without rigorous systems. Yet failure to do so can lead to precious donor funds being misdirected away from the vulnerable populations they are intended to support. So how can charities remain compassionate without becoming vulnerable? Building Smarter Systems to Combat Fraud The solution lies at the intersection of empathy and technology. By integrating robust verification systems, real-time tracking tools and transparency protocols, charities can protect the integrity of their mission while maintaining trust with donors. First, the vetting process must be airtight. This means validating not just medical needs but also socioeconomic status, treatment urgency and cost-effectiveness. Digital platforms can streamline this process through automated document checks, data triangulation from multiple sources and manual review for high-risk cases. Secondly, money must never go directly to individuals. Direct hospital disbursement, tracked in real-time, ensures funds are used precisely for the approved treatment and nothing else. This model significantly limits the opportunity for misuse. And finally, there must be transparency. Donors should not have to guess where their money went. They should be able to track the journey of their donation, from approval to treatment, and see the difference it made. One tech charity leading the way on all these fronts is Helpster Charity. Helpsters Fraud-Proof Approach: Technology Meets Trust Helpster, a global tech charity startup, is proving that innovation can power integrity. Focused on providing access to healthcare for vulnerable children, young adults and pregnant women across Africa and Asia, Helpster has built a model that is as efficient as it is transparent. At the core of Helpster's operations is a robust and tech-powered admission process. Cases are received from a carefully curated network that includes trusted local volunteers, community health workers, NGOs, hospitals and even through Helpster's own free medical outreaches to underprivileged communities. Each case is then subjected to a thorough validation process that looks at three key factors: poverty level, urgency of treatment and the proposed treatment plan. On-ground assessments are done as Helpster's team visits the beneficiaries to confirm data supplied. All medical documents are thoroughly reviewed by in-house healthcare professionals for authenticity. This verification is not a long-winded affair. Thanks to the digital platform, most cases are checked, verified and approved (or declined) within a few days. Only cases that meet strict criteria and fall below an assessment value of 1,500 USD are uploaded onto Helpster's app and website for public support. In exceptional cases, the limit may extend to 3,000 USD but the principle remains: thes...

AXE.AI's approach supports complex environments, improves data visibility for testers, and scales efficiently across enterprise networks. The company emphasizes a human-centered approach and advocates for workforce education and training as a foundation for secure AI adoption. In today's episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security, Jodi and Justin Daniels speak with Brett Ewing, Founder and CEO of AXE.AI, about leveraging AI for offensive cybersecurity. Brett explains how AXE.AI's platform enhances penetration testing and improves speed and coverage for large-scale networks. He also shares how AI is changing both attack and defense strategies, highlighting the risks posed by large language models (LLMs) and deepfakes, and explains why investing in continuous workforce training remains the most important cyber defense for companies today.

PHILIP GUNN'S BILL READING BATTLE: OUTSMARTING DEMOCRATIC DELAYS

The Clay Edwards Show

On The Clay Edwards Show, I sat down with former Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn, who shared a sharp anecdote about outmaneuvering Democratic tactics in the legislature. Philip explained how Democrats, frustrated during a recent special session ending May 29, 2025, invoked an 1894 constitutional rule to force word-for-word bill readings—essentially a filibuster to stall proceedings until 2 a.m. This was a protest, likely over budget priorities, as Democrats felt sidelined by Republican spending choices. Philip recounted how, during his tenure as Speaker from 2012 to 2024, Democrats often used this tactic to slow things down when they were in the minority. To counter it, he cranked up the speed on a computer program used to read bills, dubbed the “demon chipmunk” by critics, making the readings comically fast and incomprehensible. This sparked a 2016 lawsuit from Rep. Jay Hughes, D-Oxford, claiming it violated the Constitution's spirit, but the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in Philip's favor in 2017, citing legislative autonomy. He noted a 2013-2014 instance where a two-and-a-half-hour reading of a charter school bill backfired on Democrats, giving him time to rally absent Republicans for a winning vote. Broadcasting from Flora, I laughed with Philip over his clever workaround, highlighting his savvy leadership in navigating Mississippi's political trenches.
