Episode Description: In this episode of the Lead Ministry Podcast, Josh and Bill tackle a rarely discussed but vital topic for ministry leaders: the challenges and sacrifices faced by ministry spouses. Ministry can be incredibly fulfilling, but it can also come at a high cost for family members, particularly spouses who often shoulder extra burdens on Sundays and special events. Josh and Bill dive deep into the hidden dynamics of balancing ministry responsibilities with family life and share practical ways to lighten the load for everyone involved. Bill shares personal insights about the realities of ministry on family life, the sacrifices spouses often make, and the expectations that can lead to burnout or resentment. Together, Josh and Bill offer wisdom on counting the cost, supporting ministry spouses, and creating sustainable boundaries that honor both ministry and family commitments. Key Topics Covered: Counting the Cost – Recognizing and preparing for the unique sacrifices that come with ministry life. Supporting Ministry Spouses – Practical ways churches and leaders can support spouses who often manage family life solo on Sundays. Setting Boundaries for Health – Balancing ministry commitments with family time to create healthier dynamics. Long-term Impact on Families – How to prevent long-term strain and burnout for ministry families by proactively addressing challenges. Key Quote:“Every job has hazards, but for ministry families, Sundays can be the hardest of all. Counting the cost and making extra considerations for family can mean the difference between thriving or struggling.” Scripture References: Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 – “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Takeaway:Ministry leaders and their spouses are a team, but churches must avoid treating them as a “two-for-one” package. When ministry leaders are mindful of their family's well-being, they create a healthier foundation that ultimately strengthens their ministry and supports their calling. Alex Edmans, author of May Contain Lies, delves into how confirmation bias and belief polarization skew our perceptions, offering tips for parents to help their teenagers navigate misinformation and think critically. If you've enjoyed Talking to Teens, we'd love if you could leave us a five-star rating, and if you have time, a review! Full Show NotesIn today's digital world, misinformation spreads faster than ever. Even as adults, we often find ourselves believing things that aren't true or are more nuanced than we think. The issue becomes even more critical when considering how we raise teenagers to be discerning and truth-seeking individuals. How do we guide teens to differentiate fact from fiction in a sea of misleading information? How can we teach them to critically evaluate the plethora of claims they encounter daily—whether in social media, news, or even school? The ability to critically question and analyze data is a vital skill, and it's more crucial now than ever.To delve into the complexities of misinformation and how to tackle it, we're speaking with Alex Edmans, a professor of finance at London Business School. Alex's TED Talk, "What to Trust in a Post-Truth World," has resonated with millions, and his book, May Contain Lies, explores how biases impact our understanding and decision-making processes. With a keen focus on both finance and everyday life, Alex offers deep insights and practical advice on how to navigate a world filled with skewed information.Understanding Confirmation BiasConfirmation bias is a significant issue that affects how we process information. Alex highlights that we often accept information that aligns with our pre-existing beliefs uncritically, while scrutinizing information that contradicts our views. This is prevalent not just in finance and economics, Alex's fields of expertise, but also in everyday topics like parenting and healthcare. For instance, Alex describes how widely accepted recommendations like exclusive breastfeeding may not be as beneficial as we think. While these claims are backed by reputable sources like the World Health Organization, they may overlook other contributing factors like socio-economic status and family support systems. By critically examining the research and understanding its context, we can make more informed decisions and avoid unnecessary guilt.Tackling Black and White ThinkingAnother prevalent bias Alex addresses is black and white thinking, where we categorize things as entirely good or bad with no gray areas. This kind of thinking is aided by simple, extreme messages that go viral on social media but often lack nuance. Alex illustrates this with the example of the Atkins diet, which gained popularity for its extreme stance on carbohydrates, even though it oversimplifies the role of carbs in a balanced diet. For parents, understanding and combating these biases can help in guiding teenagers to see beyond black and white categorizations. Encouraging them to reason through their beliefs and understand the nuances can foster more critical and balanced thinking.Solutions: The Ladder of MisargumentTo help teenagers and parents alike navigate misinformation, Alex introduces the "Ladder of Misargument," a framework that breaks down common types of misinformation into four categories:A statement is not a fact: Understand the context and accuracy of the information.Facts are not data: Ensure the facts are representative and not isolated.Data is not evidence: Look for causation, not just correlation.Evidence is not proof: Recognize that evidence may not be universal or applicable in all contexts.Creating a Culture of Inquiry and DialogueEncouraging skeptical thinking in teenagers isn't just about teaching them to question authority but creating a culture where it's safe to ask questions and express doubts. Alex discusses how a high-power hierarchy can stifle honest communication and the flow of ideas. By reducing hierarchical barriers and fostering open dialogue, whether in families or workplaces, we can create environments where critical thinking thrives.Parents can also model this behavior by openly discussing their thought processes and demonstrating how to critically analyze information. Encouraging teenagers to explain their viewpoints in detail can help them see the limitations of their own understanding and foster a habit of thorough investigation. In the Episode…Alex shares a wealth of insights on how to cultivate critical thinking and avoid common pitfalls of misinformation. Tune in to learn about:How sports results can mysteriously affect the stock marketThe importance of asking detailed questions and listeningWays to foster healthy debate within familiesHow to identify and mitigate common biases in everyday decisionsIf you enjoyed this week's episode, you can find more from Alex on his website, alexedmans.com, or follow him on LinkedIn under the username A Edmans. In 2011, Pastor Davey Blackburn moved from South Carolina to Indiana to plant a church with his wife, Amanda. By late 2015, coming back from a staff retreat, Davey and Amanda were feeling encouraged and seeing the church beginning to establish roots. A few days after that retreat, Amanda, who was also pregnant with their second child, was caught up in a home invasion and shot three times. Their son, Weston, who was in his crib at the time of the invasion, was left unharmed. Unfortunately, Amanda died the next day, four years to the day they planted the church. The details of how God showed up, and what emerged out of the pain, was remarkable.Davey joins the show this week to discuss the trauma he endured, his journey toward healing, and how his newly blended family prioritizes being famous at home. What came out of his story is a ministry called Nothing is Wasted. I'm excited to share that we have a repeat guest today! Mikelann Valterra, a money coach, and more specifically the Seattle Money Coach is back on Brave Women at Work. We've had a few shows on money lately. I think that is because, at the beginning of the year, we are thinking about our money. According to an article in USA Today, the top resolution in 2024 is to save more money, especially with inflation and how expensive our cost of living is today. If you enjoy this conversation, and I'm sure you will, I also encourage you to go back into the Brave Women at Work vault and listen to episode 107. During that show, we touched on the money fog. Now that Mikelann has written an entire book on the subject, we dive much deeper into the topic in this conversation. During my chat with Mikelann, we covered:Her book, Rise Above the Money Fog, The Key to Confidence, Clarity, and Control Over Your LifeWe dove deep into what the money fog is and where it comes from (hint, hint, it's childhood)The money stories we inherit from our familiesHow trauma and even so-called perfect families can leave a mark when it comes to how we manage our moneyHow we can start to overcome our money stories and build a better relationship with moneyWe chat about money traps such as overspending, underearning, and even over-earning or golden handcuffsAnd we round out our conversation with the concept of receptive surrender, which was fascinating.

Last year, after speaking at a conference, I was contacted by, Sophie Kerr, the owner of Little Foxes Nursery School in Wiltshire, England, an early childcare center that believes in the power of strong role models in children's learning and development. She had heard me speak about B.R.I.D.G.E., the 6 key meta skills you need as a childcare center leader, and it immediately resonated with her.Although she had a strong team of directors, they were struggling in some crucial areas, like managing their calendars and having difficult conversations with staff, that were impacting the overall culture of the school. So, when she reached out to inquire more about leadership training for her team—Catherine, Amy, and Jen—I invited them to apply for our Director's Inner Circle membership program.I knew it was the perfect place for them to not only develop their leadership meta-skills, but get support from other directors who were experiencing the same struggles and working toward the same goals. But what I didn't expect was just how incredible it would be to watch each of their journeys unfold, side by side. The extent to which the program transformed their leadership in such distinctive and personal ways was powerful to see. That's why in this week's podcast episode, I'm sitting down with the Little Foxes team to hear their stories about how being in the Director's Inner Circle membership program has uniquely transformed their leadership and school cultures.Join us for a conversation about:Their leadership styles before joining the programTheir experience implementing the gratitude matrix, one-on-ones, and moreThe impact of their leadership on parents and familiesHow they've grown thanks to the program's resources, coaching, and communityLearn more and apply for the Director's Inner Circle & Owner's HQ: http://Chanie.me/jointhedic If you want to experience a leadership transformation like that of the Little Foxes team, I encourage you to apply for our Owner's HQ and Director's Inner Circle membership programs. As a member, you'll gain access to tools, resources, coaching, and community that will help you as you work toward building a school of excellence.P.P.S. In honor of Veterans Day, we have a very special episode for you. After any war, including WWII, soldiers are often deeply haunted by what they saw and did during the war. For 60 years, they held onto guilt and pain from WWII…until something happened that changed the rest of their lives and gave them peace.Today I'm joined by Don's daughter, Marianne, and Fritz's sons, Matthias and Volker, to hear about an unlikely close friendship that is almost impossible for veterans who had seen each other as enemies for decades. Since my guest for today's episode, Dr. Abigail Gewirtz was on the show just over two years ago near the start of the COVID pandemic, the world has continued to go through increasingly complicated and challenging times. Like I'm sure all of you out there listening, I've struggled to find ways to help my child feel hope and optimism about the state of the world — the war in Ukraine, a spate of school shootings, a very polarized political landscape, and catastrophic weather events. So I wanted to ask Abigail, the author of the wonderful book When the World Feels Like a Scary Place: Essential Conversations for Anxious Parents and Worried Kids, if hope and optimism is possible to find even when things around us feel so unpredictable and chaotic, and if so, how can we cultivate this for our kids in an authentic way?In our conversation, Abigail shares her ideas for doing that, as well as ways we adults can manage our own fear and worries to be able to show up for our kids, and the importance of guiding kids toward something that makes them feel purpose and meaning. About Dr. Abigail GewirtzDr. Abigail Gewirtz is a child psychologist and professor at the University of Minnesota's College of Education and Human Development (ranked the world's third-leading institution of its kind). Kohl's and Alliance for a Healthier Generation began their partnership when Kohl's hit a plateau after opening 100 stores a year. The retailer was also transitioning its corporate social impact work from mothers and children to focusing on families in all their forms. It was the perfect time in each organization's journey to partner. Healthier Generation's work was primarily done in schools at that point, and Kohl's was able to help the nonprofit expand beyond that to reach communities in other places.Their first initiative - Kohl's Healthy at Home - was a series of three campaigns that began in 2019 and included a $2 million commitment. What things in your life feel unfair and cause you to get worked up? We all have those triggers—and in those moments, it's easy to feel powerless. But what if we shifted the narrative by changing our own reaction, instead of being angry at what can't be changed? Author and speaker Hal Elrod explains that while we can't always change our circumstances, we always have the power to choose how we respond, and that can change our entire experience of life. It is in those moments that we create space for more beautiful things to grow in us and in our kids. Don't forget to register for the free Inspired Mom Summit happening Sept 29-Oct 2! Raising awesome kids is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Partly because it is the only job that you don't get an instruction manual when you start. And because every child is different and requires different approaches and needs. As result, every family is different. But you can still have a family success story without doing things the way everyone else does. That is what this episode is all about. In this episode with my guest Nellie, she shares:Her story of how she even got started by helping other families with gaining that success in their familiesHow we can start to develop our own family fingerprint and create a manual for our own familiesHow we can begin to use the self-discipline leadership with our kids so that they can begin to grow into awesome human beings that are happy and joyfulAbout discipline, which is something that I know there can be a lot of controversy about but she brings some really great pointsIf you want to improve, strengthen or even start developing your family success story check out this episode.ABOUT NELLIENellie is a Family Life & Leadership Coach that helps families build Leadership into the DNA of their family to elevate their family experience and set their kids up for a wildly successful future equipped with their greatness. In this episode, we interview Sami Simpson (she/her). Some topics we cover include: Deciding to do her dissertation on identifying best practices to help queer Mormon youth and young adults and their familiesHow the LDS church is very pro-family structure, but maybe not entirely pro-family Bierasure, and how she's still in a queer relationship, even though it's straight-passingSamantha Simpson is a bisexual marriage and family therapist at Flourish Therapy, a non-profit organization that provides subsidized therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. During her master's program at BYU, she started doing family therapy with LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in Latter-day Saint families. Quickly realizing that such sessions required multi-faceted cultural responsiveness, expert knowledge, and the therapy skills of an emotional surgeon, she looked for research and resources -- only to find that there are little to none. That's what set her on the path of getting a PhD. She is in the final stretch of completing her PhD at Virginia Tech, where she is currently collecting data for her dissertation called, "When Identities Collide: Best Practices for Family Therapy with LGBTQ+ Youth and Young Adults in Mormon Families. Sami, her partner Michael, and her dog Albie recently relocated from Virginia to Utah and love reconnecting with Utah's Queer communities. A Prayer for our Families- How do I Pray? I have spent the last week talking to all of you ladies. It's been emotional. In the last episode, we talked about those families and how incredibly hard it is when we leave the church and all the dynamics of the relationships. The aftermath, if you will. Talking with you all broke my heart in so many ways. But another theme was present with all of you. Prayer. If you had found Jesus and were building a relationship with Him, you had a good Christian friend that has sat and prayed with you. Many of you said, "I had never heard a prayer like that!" If you are still searching and trying to navigate this post-Mormon or post religion landscape you flat out said, "I don't know how to pray. How do you speak to Him and how does He speak to you?" So instead of airing an interview today, I decided we needed to do something else- we need to pray. Get all the details on the blog Ever wonder why? The reason behind every one of my episodes comes from past experiences, real-life questions, and struggles I have been through as an exmo (gal who left religion). Want to know more about how this came about and resources that helped me get to the other side of faith? Grab the Scoop Here Need to meet others like you? Let's share! This episode is about the tough but very important topic of childhood trauma. I’m here with Dr. Tanner Wallace, a former university professor of health and human development turned full-time trauma recovery guide. She hosts her own podcast called “The Relational Healing Podcast” and helps adult survivors of childhood trauma heal their attachment wounds. We discuss how childhood wounds can express in our lives, even if we don’t have a really specific extreme trauma, and the way these wounds show up in our relationships. We also go into the differences between traumatic events, how what happens after an event is often more important than the event itself, and the reason emotional neglect can be more harmful than physical abuse for children. There will definitely be follow-ups to this episode. But as a starting point, I can’t wait to share today’s episode with you. Let’s join Dr. Tanner. Episode Highlights With Tanner Wallace How childhood wounds can express in our lives, even if we don't know we have specific traumaThe way childhood wounds show up in adult relationshipsDifferences between traumatic events and if they are traumatizing or notHow what happens after an event is often more important than the event itself Why trauma isn't just assault and physical abuseThe reason emotional neglect can be more harmful than physical abuseHow trauma and wounding are a continuumThe way our brains and bodies cope with trauma and how our personalities develop protective responses First steps to recognizing and starting to unpattern childhood woundsHow to deactivate default survival codes The somatic connection to working through childhood wounds and how to develop the body awarenessWitness, befriend, validate, and eventually release What attachment wounds are and how to recognize themWhy many of these wounds often bubble up when we enter primary relationships and start creating familiesHow to find a trauma-informed therapist to help work through thisWhat the Internal Family Systems Model is and how this method worksHer Relational Healing Lab approachWhat emotions are and tools for helping our kids have a better emotional vocabulary from a young ageAnd more! I'd love to share with you guys a little bit about where I am in my journey right now. And it has everything to do with a big shift and switch with where I am in life. So I just retired from chiropractic and have given myself a little bit of space and time to be able to rest. Because honestly, for about 20 years, I've been running, hustling, doing the do, and to be honest, got burned out. Now it wasn't that I was burnt out with serving people, it was burnt out with feeling like I was stuck on this hamster wheel. And so let me take you back a little bit to what the early part of my career looked like. So you can understand where that challenge kind of created itself in my practice and just in life in general. “If you're feeling burnt out, it's probably because you're running on a really wide road, and you're trying so hard to juggle all the balls. And to be very honest, that's not what we're designed to do. We cannot focus on more than one thing at one time.” - Dr. Patti Gonzalez Learn more about: My early career as a chiropractor When I shifted marketing from Athletes to talking Moms and Families How to navigate from that wide road to a narrow road And so much more!

In New South Wales, Australia churches are permitted to gather for meetings of 50 from Monday, but are not permitted to have communal singing. Rob Smith, Curtis Smith & Dr Charlotte Hespe discuss. NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says, "Communal singing and chanting should not occur because of the high risk of transmission of the virus. Today’s discussion covers both of those things through the lens of estate and succession planning and is especially pertinent, given everything that's going on with the COVID-19 pandemic.Leslie Quinsay is an entrepreneur, investor, and the author of Legacy: A Guide to Successfully Transferring Wealth from One Generation to the Next. Where can you find some creativity in your daily schedule? (and where shouldn’t you?)As camp people, it’s in our nature to innovate. We are great at looking at routine or program and think, “Hey, wouldn’t this be better if we did this!?”. This is even something that we praise staff for. How many of your evaluation forms list “creative thinking” as a trait that is seen as desirable? The problem can come when our creative ambitions give us the desire to tweak something that has been intentionally done, without considering or consulting those intentions. It’s a tricky line to tow. We need to balance our creativity with the fact that routines are important for campers, staff and families. Things that affect our camper’s circadian rhythms, dietary schedules and some of their other Maslow’s needs should be strongly considered before we make a big change. To help you tow that line between magic and monotony, Travis, Joe and Dan are once again joined by Camp Code Co-Host, Ruby Compton. Ruby’s many years in and around the camp industry have given her a unique perspective on what is up for changing and what should stay sacred this summer.Tune in to this episode to hear more about:How routines affect campers and their familiesHow camps walk the line between routine and ritualHow to set boundaries for staff on what is and isn’t fair-game to changeWhat are the important parts of the day that are absolutely necessary to includeHow to inject some creativity into the necessary and the in-between timesMany, many more great ideas! What is something special about the flow of your Camp Day? We've been using Airbnb with kids since 2013, and today I'll tell you some of my tips on how to use Airbnb for families. Airbnb for Families — How to Use Airbnb with Kids There's lots of information out there on how to use Airbnb, but most of it is for couples and single travelers or the Airbnb hosts themselves. In this week's episode, I want to talk about how to use Airbnb with kids. There's a lot of opportunities on Airbnb for families, but it helps to follow a few rules to get the most out of the service. ::: Like what you’re hearing? Then please subscribe, rate & review Epic Education Radio. We would be extremely grateful! iTunes is a search engine as well, and so when you rate and review us, you help others find us. Thank you! ::: I've written an extensive post on getting the most out of Airbnb, but how to use Airbnb with kids is still one of the most common questions I get from readers and listeners. That's why this week I decided to make an audio version of some of my main tips on how to use Airbnb for families. Read All Our AirBnB Tips Here Airbnb with Kids / Airbnb for Families One of the first things I discuss in the show is our experience with Airbnb. We've been using Airbnb with kids since 2013 and have had great experiences using Airbnb in multiple countries, including: Japan Spain Malaysia Indonesia, and Mexico I discuss some of the benefits that Airbnb for families has over a hotel. These include savings and more "at-home" feeling. Some people are concerned about safety with Airbnb, but I think that if you know how to use Airbnb properly, then you are able to find the right places to stay. Tips: How to Use Airbnb with Kids I try to run through some of my best advice for using Airbnb in this episode. Almost all of this Airbnb advice can help anyone, but some of it is specifically designed to help families learn how to use Airbnb to their advantage. I break down my Airbnb tips into three main categories: Search: How to Use Airbnb Contacting the Host: How to Use Airbnb Final Research and Double-Check: Contacting the Host Search: How to Use Airbnb When you use Airbnb for the first time, it's important to play with the search functions to see what your options are. Search Broad Remember to keep your search broad at first. Don't refine your search so specific that some perfectly good accommodation is filtered out. If a kitchen is required, then go ahead and click that box, but try to leave some options open. For example: Beds vs Bedrooms: You may need three places to sleep, but sometimes one bedroom may have two beds, or there may be a sofa bed. You can save more money using Airbnb with kids by choosing this way. Internet, Wifi & Laptop-friendly workspace: Some Airbnb hosts only check one of these boxes, even though all three may apply. Fiddle with each one to see if you get different results. In this podcast, I give a few more examples that work well when using Airbnb for families. Contacting the Host: How to Use Airbnb This is a very important part of how to use Airbnb for families or anyone else. Airbnb isn't like a hotel, where you just click a button to book a room. Sometimes it's important to contact the host and introduce yourself first. That way, you can ask for specific details about the accommodation and possibly ask for a discount. Three specific details I ask for are: Confirmation of internet speed (both download *AND* upload speeds) Availability of two sets of keys (Keiko and I both want our own set) Ask for the address of the accommodation (Airbnb doesn't provide — host may or may not offer) Specific details on appliances and amenities (Does the stove work? Are there clothes hangars in the closets?, etc) I'm sure that that last one may seem bizarre to some of you, but we had some early Airbnb experiences that made us wish we had asked earlier. Final Research & Double-Check: How to Use Airbnb For this final step in Airbnb for families, I suggest going over your shortlist of Airbnb choices and then doing a little final research before making your decision. A few things we check before booking: Proximity to good things (supermarkets, public transport, etc) Proximity to smelly and/or noisy places (wet markets, churches/temples/mosque, karaoke bars, etc) Host's familiarity with long-term stays (when applicable) Conclusion: Airbnb with Kids This is just some of the advice I'd give to traveling families considering Airbnb as part of their travel plans. We've certainly found it a rewarding experience. Do you have other Airbnb tips to share? Tell us about them in the comments. Disclosure: This post on using Airbnb with children and tips on how to use Airbnb for families may contain affiliate links. This means, at no extra cost to you, we might receive a small commission if you make a purchase, book a room or book an Airbnb using my links. I’m excited to bring you this Episode #23 of the Mother’s Quest Podcast. I’m just back from an amazing week at one of my most favorite places, UCLA’s Bruin Woods Family Camp in Lake Arrowhead, where I felt like I had an amazing reset…a chance to unplug and notice some patterns from a fresh perspective. It’s so perfect then, that I came back to put the finishing touches on this episode with author of the Miracle Morning for Parents and Families, Lindsay McCarthy. I’ve been wanting to have Lindsay on the podcast for a while now; I knew I had a lot to learn from her about how to change my relationship with mornings, but I didn’t realize our conversation would inspire a collaborative 30 day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge that will start Monday, July 17th. Lindsay is a wife and homeschool mom of two kids. She is the co-author of The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families, has a facebook community of the same name, and is creator of GratefulParent.com where she blogs. Lindsay and I have a lot in common in that neither of us could have imagined we would step into owning and sharing our voice and our story with others until fairly recently, she through her book and me through the podcast. We go deep in this conversation about the epic journey that brought Lindsay from attending a conference where she met Miracle Morning author Hal Alred to essentially writing a manual for bringing the Miracle Morning practice to parents and families. We talk about our mutual love of frameworks and acronyms and how she and her husband adapted the Miracle Morning’s SAVERS to create their own acronym, CHARMS, which brings Creativity, Health, Affirmations, Reading, Meditation, and Service to her children every morning. I love how Lindsay brings intentionality and mindfulness to her parenting and how she’s living her own version of an E.P.I.C. life, one rooted in being an amazing mom and co-creating incredible learning experiences for her children. She helped me change my perception of what homeschooling can look like and realize that we are all like a homeschooling mom when we seek opportunities for our children to pursue their curiosity and passions. I’m also impressed by how committed Lindsay is to this Miracle Morning practice which has dramatically changed her family’s life and the lives of so many others through her book and group. I’m thrilled I finally got a chance to talk with Lindsay and that together we will create this collaborative challenge. I have a strong feeling that this Miracle Morning practice will make a huge difference for me and I know I need some support and accountability to make it happen. I can’t imagine a better guide than Lindsay and I hope you’ll choose to come along with us. This Week’s Challenge: Join us for the 30-Day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge. Sign up to follow us with daily prompts and reflections in the Mother’s Quest Facebook Group. Topics discussed in this episode: Lindsay’s mother modeled creating opportunities for her children by setting up a field hockey team for her and other girls in their community. How attending Hal Elrod’s One Life Fully Lived conference in 2014 provided an opportunity for Lindsay to create what became like an operating manual for her family The importance of having a morning practice. How the C.H.A.R.M.S. (Creativity, Health, Affirmations, Reading, Meditation, Service) framework works in their family and how it can be adapted for other families. Tips on “Habit Stacking” and adding mindfulness and purpose to everyday activities. Working with a spiritual coach to support self discovery. Slowing down to have the space to create what you truly want. How Lindsay came to homeschooling her children, how she accesses other resources outside of her home as part of that, and how we are all homeschoolers in some way with our children Resources mentioned in this episode: The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families: How to Bring Out the Best in Your KIDS and Your SELF by Hal Elrod, Mike & Lindsay McCarthy The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM) by Hal Elrod One Life Fully Lived Conference Gobundance, the company and mastermind of Mike, Lindsay’s husband Spirit Coach Training with Jenai Lane, Lindsay’s spiritual coach Make Me App Grateful Parent, Lindsay’s blog The Miracle Morning for PARENTS & FAMILIES Facebook Community The Miracle Morning Community 30-Day Mother’s Quest Miracle Morning Challenge at the Facebook Group Announcements If you haven’t yet visited the website, head over to www.mothersquest.com to explore some of the ways you can get more connected. Welcome to Week 7 of our Summer of Stories series! This Summer we have been featuring stories of incredible moms that have endured significant challenges. Through these stories, we pray you will remember that God is faithful and always with you through life's most challenging moments. In this week's story, you will hear from the delightful, creative and intentional Erin Burchik. She is a family friend and I have long-admired her approach to parenting. She desperately wants to enjoy each of her kids and embrace the “good ole days” of kids in the home. She will share how traveling and taking trips became a passion of hers. And she will share some super practical ways to make trips doable and affordable when you're on a budget. Before we get to the scoop on traveling for less, she shares her story about becoming a mom. Through many trials and some devastating financial loss, Erin has fought through doubt and frustration with God. She felt called to adopt and then it didn't go as smoothly as she had hoped. It's so fun to see her on the other side of this battle and see the family that God designed from the very beginning. My favorite part is when she explains the WHY behind their family adventures.
