For years, I've given customers advice on achieving sales success, but during all that time, I wasn't heeding my own advice.I thought I was different. I enjoyed being different. Speaking to people from all over the world about their respective sales challenges gave me a buzz and of course so many of the fundamentals of sales and winning business are the same. But I was not being true to myself And I was also not going to hit an objective I had set for myself WITHOUT making some changes. I had to start drinking my own champagne. Which is what I am now going to do.All shared in this week's podcast episode. Trust me, its worth 20 mins of your time. Here's the knot almost every founder hits. Things are working. Money is coming in. And then everyone around you starts chanting the same advice. Niche down. It sounds smart. It feels terrifying. Because the second you try it, it feels like you're about to fire the people funding your life. So I ran the question through The Room. I convened a council session inside Invisible Council AI with cognitive models of four people who have actually built fortunes on this exact decision. Alex Hormozi. Dan Kennedy. Dan Sullivan. Frank Kern. They did not politely agree. They collided. And the collision is where the gold was. Hormozi separated the two decisions everyone blends together. Kennedy reframed a niche as a farm you can dominate, not a smaller crowd to starve in. Sullivan made the call that your current clients are evidence, not your identity. Kern added the filter that changes everything. Pick the client you could win for even if you only got paid after they succeeded. The Third Mind that emerged from all four was simple and sharp. You don't announce a divorce to find a better date. You build a revenue-safe front door for the proven buyer while the old book of business quietly funds the transition. Tighter front door. Same cash register. This one is for any founder sitting on revenue they're scared to risk and a focus they're scared to commit to. Listen all the way through. The open question at the end is the one that decides whether your niche becomes a farm or a trap. What You'll Learn The two separate decisions you're accidentally blending, and why that blend is the source of the fear. Why cash flow is not the thing you protect at all costs. It's the thing that buys you time to get smarter. How to choose your ideal client from evidence instead of preference, using the clients you already have. Why a niche is not a smaller audience. It's a market small enough to dominate and rich enough to matter. The difference between revenue and complexity wearing a fake mustache. How to reposition without sending a single client a dramatic "we've evolved beyond you" announcement. The 90-day narrowing test that turns a scary identity change into a measurable experiment. The exact first move you can run this week with your last 20 clients and a spreadsheet. Chapter Markers (Times are placeholders. Map to your final audio in your host.) 00:00 — The founder's fear: niche down without blowing up revenue 00:00 — Hormozi: the two decisions you keep blending 00:00 — Pick the niche the evidence is pointing at, not the one you like 00:00 — "Your strategy is what you say no to" 00:00 — Kennedy: a niche is a farm, not a smaller crowd 00:00 — The fantasy demographic test 00:00 — Third Mind: the Cash-Flow Airlock 00:00 — Sullivan: your clients are evidence, not your identity 00:00 — The 10x Client Test 00:00 — Third Mind: the Two-Bank Niche Test 00:00 — Kern: pick who you could win for if you got paid last 00:00 — Kennedy vs Kern: ease versus richness 00:00 — Third Mind: the Revenue-Safe Front Door 00:00 — The Council Brief and your first move 00:00 — The open question: farm or elegant trap Lines From The Room (Pulled from the live council session. These are the cognitive models speaking inside Invisible Council AI.) The Hormozi model, on the real lever: "Your strategy is what you say no to. Not what you put in the Google Doc." The Kennedy model, on choosing wrong: "If the answer is no, you don't have an ICP. You have a fantasy demographic." The Sullivan model, on the trap of revenue: "Complexity disguised as cash flow." The Kern model, on the filter that matters: "Don't choose the ICP you can sell. Choose the ICP you can almost guarantee results for." The Third Mind, on the whole move: "You don't announce a divorce to find a better date." The Frameworks Named In This Session The Cash-Flow Airlock — keep serving the messy back room while the new front door only admits the proven buyer inside a conquerable farm. The Two-Bank Niche Test — deposit into the future bank while making zero withdrawals from the current bank. The 10x Client Test — if I had ten times more clients like this one, would the business get simpler, more profitable, and more energizing, or collapse under complexity. The Revenue-Safe Front Door — test the narrow ICP in media the legacy herd doesn't even consume, while the back room keeps proving appreciation to the people paying now. Your Move This Week Take your last 20 clients. Put them in a spreadsheet. Score each one on: Did they get a measurable result How easy were they to sell How profitable were they to serve How easy were they to fulfill Did serving them drain you or energize you Would you take them if you only got paid after they succeeded Would you want ten times more just like them The overlap is your first farm. Then write one sentence. "I help [specific person or company] solve [specific expensive problem] so they can achieve [specific outcome] without [specific pain]." If it doesn't exclude people, it isn't finished. Then point your next 90 days of new marketing at that person only. Back room keeps getting served. Same cash register.

The man who co-created category design — the strategic framework behind companies like Salesforce, HubSpot, and Drift — has a blunt message for principals: your recruiting ads are announcing that nobody wants to work at your school. Christopher Lochhead is co-author of Play Bigger, Niche Down, and Category Pirates, the wildly popular business newsletter read by some of the sharpest operators in tech and venture. His latest book, Creator Capitalist, makes the case that the creator economy isn't a trend — it's the future of every career, including the ones you're trying to build on your campus. Most principals spend their careers trying to fix a reputation problem they don't realize they have. This conversation with Christopher Lochhead lands like a two-by-four: your school's reputation is built entirely by what people say when you're not in the room, and most of the signals you're sending are saying the opposite of what you intend. The connection between category design, teacher recruitment, AI in education, and what it means to do school different turns out to be a single through-line — and it starts with the courage to be different.
In this episode of The Beacon Way Podcast, Alex Smith, Strategy Consultant and Author of "No Bullsh*t Strategy", explains why most businesses lack real strategy, confusing it with sub-strategies like marketing or branding, and argues the core question is what the business does that is both highly demanded and uniquely positioned. He distinguishes freelancing from building a growth-oriented business, noting many hit plateaus and mistakenly pursue optimization—trying to be “better”—which commoditizes them. Instead, strategy is finding a “needle in a haystack”: something no one else sells that people want. Alex advises grounding the business in a clear, understood category, then uncovering existing accidental quirks that drive success (“find out who you are and do it on purpose”). He reframes “niching down” as being specific without shrinking the market, discusses hyper-competition and AI's impact on therapy, and shares a method for creating new value by sacrificing an assumed “good” industry norm and serving those who benefit from that reversal. I created six new offers in nine hours yesterday. Something is in the air.But this episode isn't about me. It's about you - especially if you're really good at what you do but nobody's buying. One of my clients hadn't sold anything in four months. Four months. Then we got ruthlessly specific about one thing, and she made $1,200 in 48 hours.Being good at your craft and being found for your craft are two completely different skills. You were only taught one of them.In this episode, I'm breaking down what we changed, the 2AM problem you're not addressing, and the one sentence that makes the right people lean in.
Brian Will — Wall Street Journal bestselling author, serial entrepreneur, and founder/CEO of Living Forever AI — joins host Jeff Mains for a wide-ranging conversation on entrepreneurship, scaling, sales, and what it truly means to leave a legacy. Brian has built and helped build companies worth over half a billion dollars across 10 ventures in five industries. Now, he's setting his sights on disrupting the $3 billion genealogy market with AI-powered digital twins that preserve your voice, stories, and personality for future generations — not as static content, but as something people can actually interact with. The conversation covers the mentor relationship that changed Brian's life and fortune, why most companies fail to scale (hint: it's the founder), how to build and audit a high-performance sales team, the self-funded vs. VC debate, and how to compete in a market dominated by giants like Ancestry.com. Brian also shares a vivid philosophy on focus, data-driven sales management, and why right now is the single greatest moment in history to build a company.Key Takeaways4:14 — The Power of a Role Mentor Brian's career turned when he stopped taking only his own advice and started listening to his partner Steve — a $20M entrepreneur who had earned the right to be believed. That one decision led to an $80M exit.11:14 — The Origin of Living Forever AI Watching chatbots evolve and wrestling with his own legacy question — "Who's ever going to know?" — Brian conceived the idea of an interactive AI video twin trained entirely on your own stories and memories.12:43 — Early Traction: Launched Feb. 1, 539 Users in 2 Months Brian describes rapid early momentum, grants, and acceptance into the Startup Grind Global Competition in Silicon Valley — all with a three-person team.22:14 — Why Companies Fail to Scale: It's the Founder The #1 scaling killer is founder ego preventing delegation. Brian calls out founders running $10M companies while doing $20/hour work, and makes the case that CEOs must stop pretending to have all the answers.23:51 — Build a High-Performance, Data-Driven Sales Team Sales and marketing must be measured at every level: ROAS by channel, cost per lead by channel, and revenue per lead. No data = no scale.25:21 — Every Salesperson is an Individual P&L Most companies don't run a true P&L by salesperson. When you do, you'll typically find 20%+ are actually losing money. Cut them, redistribute leads to top performers, and profit goes up without spending a single additional dollar.29:38 — Closers vs. Salespeople vs. Retail Geese Brian breaks down the three tiers of salespeople — and introduces the memorable "retail geese" analogy: people who can fly but sit and wait for apples to fall. Identify which type you have and act accordingly.32:10 — Self-Funded vs. VC: The Discipline Advantage When every dollar comes out of your own pocket, you think differently. Brian contrasts his lean three-person team (launching in weeks) with a funded competitor who raised $11M, hired 15 people, and still has zero customers five months later.35:21 — First Mover Advantage is a Myth "If the first mover was the entire advantage, we'd all still be on MySpace." Brian explains why being an upgrade on an established market (Ancestry.com) is a smarter bet than trying to conquer one from scratch.37:56 — Niche Down, Focus, Then Expand Brian follows Alex Hormozi's framework: get focused, be really good at one thing, then bring in separate teams to take sequential verticals. Chasing the shiny object is a company killer.39:33 — The Biggest AI Mistake Founders Are Making Not fully utilizing AI. Brian replaced a $50K/year graphics employee with ChatGPT at $20/month. AI allows founders to think and build at machine-learning speed — those who ignore it will be left behind.Tweetable Quotes"I made a decision in a split second to listen to somebody else instead of me — somebody who had more success than me. That decision changed everything: my children's lives, the companies that followed, everything I have financially." — Brian Will"If your company isn't scaling the way you want, nine times out of ten it's because your ego is not allowing you to delegate. You're running a $10 million company doing a $20-an-hour job." — Brian Will"Every single salesperson in your organization is an individual profit and loss statement. And when you run that analysis, you'll typically find 20% or more are actually losing money." — Brian Will"We couldn't have done this three years ago. AI gives mankind the ability to 10x their thinking — to think at machine-learning speed and build businesses like no time in history." — Brian Will"If the first mover was the entire advantage, we'd all still be on MySpace. Sometimes the dinosaurs get so big they can't move quick. They get lost in meetings. They can't innovate." — Brian Will"They've created the market. I just want to jump in there, get a piece of it, make it better, and go from there." — Brian Will (on competing with Ancestry.com)"Salespeople are retail geese — they can fly, but they just sit there waiting for an apple to fall." — Brian Will"In the future, your history will be alive. You won't be looking at a piece of paper or reading a journal — you'll click on someone's avatar and talk to them." — Brian WillSaaS Leadership Lessons6 SaaS Leadership Lessons from Brian Will1. Find a Role Mentor and Actually Listen Brian's entire financial trajectory — multiple exits, consulting career, and his current venture — traces back to a single moment of trusting someone with more experience than himself. The best investment a founder can make isn't in software or marketing. It's in finding a mentor who has done what you want to do and getting out of your own way long enough to follow their lead.2. The Scaling Problem Is You Most founders who can't scale are sitting in the bottleneck themselves — answering voicemails, approving invoices, micromanaging design. The transition from operator to leader requires ruthless delegation of everything that isn't your highest-leverage activity. If you think nobody can do it as well as you, that belief will cap your company at whatever you personally can handle.3. Build Sales Like a Finance Department Sales without data is just activity. Brian's framework treats each marketing channel as a measurable ROAS line item, and each salesperson as an individual P&L. Most founders never run this analysis — and are shocked to discover they're paying for salespeople who are net-negative to the business. Measure every dollar, every lead, every close rate. Then cut the bottom and scale the top.4. Know the Difference Between Closers, Salespeople, and Retail Geese As you scale, the average quality of your sales hires will decline — not because you're hiring wrong, but because volume dilutes quality. Build systems simple enough for your worst hire, train rigorously, run P&L by person, and don't mistake activity for performance. Identify your closers and protect their lead flow.5. Bootstrap Your Constraints into Competitive Advantages Constraint forces prioritization. When the money is yours, every decision carries real weight — and that discipline produces lean, fast, profitable companies. Brian's self-funded three-person team outpaced a $11M funded competitor to market. Don't romanticize VC funding; sometimes the resource-constrained team wins simply because they can't afford to waste.6. Own the Niche First, Then Expand Vertically The temptation to chase every application of your technology will scatter your team and dilute your brand. Dominate one market, build the underlying engine, then bring in a dedicated team for the next vertical. Legacy preservation → corporate training → education → homeschool → licensing. The platform stays the same; the focus shifts sequentially. That's how you build a portfolio without losing a company.Guest ResourcesLiving Forever AI: livingforeverai.comBrian Will's Personal Site (books, training, speaking, background): brianwillmedia.comBrian's Books: The Dropout Multi-Millionaire and other titles available at brianwillmedia.combrian@brianwillmedia.comhttps://www.brianwillmedia.com https://www.facebook.com/TheDropoutMM https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-will-07823b6/ https://www.instagram.com/thedropoutmm/Episode SponsorThe Futureproof Series - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfkXKUPZ5xuOqMPR7_gzGybncTtavyR1NThe Captain's KeysSmall Fish, Big Pond –
AR Glasses, Niche Domination & the Exit Play: The Future of Detailing is HereIt starts with beverage banter and a debate about EVs — and somehow ends with a full blueprint for building a detailing business that runs without you and is worth selling when you're ready to walk. That's the Off The Clock way.Shawn and Marshall open up the conversation around electric vehicles and where the auto industry is actually headed — and it's not the direction most shop owners are thinking about. From there they pivot into the tech that's quietly about to change how detailers demo services and close customers: AR glasses. Imagine walking a client around their own vehicle and showing them in real time what a ceramic coating or paint correction will look like before you touch a panel. That's not sci-fi — that's where this is going, and the shops paying attention now will own the conversation later. But the episode doesn't get lost in future-gazing. Shawn and Marshall come back hard to what operators can do right now — starting with one of the most underrated growth moves in the industry: niching down. They make the case for specialization loud and clear. Trying to be everything to every car owner is a trap. The detailers building real businesses — the ones with waitlists, premium pricing, and loyal followings — are the ones who planted a flag and owned a lane. The back half of the episode gets into the stuff most shop owners avoid: systems, consistency, legal considerations for content recording, and how to actually build value in your business beyond just showing up every day. Because here's the uncomfortable truth they lay out — if your business can't run without you, you don't own a business. You own a job. And a job you can't sell.Raw content, simple advertising that actually works, customer profiling done right, and a customer-centric experience that keeps people coming back — it's all in here.⚡ Key TakeawaysAR Glasses Are a Closing Tool: The shops that figure out how to use augmented reality for customer demos will have a sales advantage that's almost impossible to compete with.Niche Down to Scale Up: Specialization isn't limiting — it's liberating. Pick a lane, own it, and charge accordingly.Raw Content Outperforms Polished Ads: Stop waiting for perfect lighting and a professional camera. Real, unfiltered content is what your audience actually connects with — post it anyway.Systems = Freedom: If every process lives in your head, you're the bottleneck. Document, automate, delegate — that's how you build something scalable.Know the Legal Side of Content: Recording customers and their vehicles on your lot isn't always as simple as hitting record. Know your local rules before you go viral for the wrong reason.Build for the Exit: Even if you're not thinking about selling, building a business that could be sold means you've built something real. Established systems, documented processes, and consistent branding all drive enterprise value.
Online business strategy that worked two years ago doesn't work anymore. The online consulting market is now worth $6.2 billion. The number of consultants has grown 54% in six years. Standing out has become the actual barrier to entry, not starting a business.Everyone can feel something has shifted but most can't put their finger on exactly what changed. I'm breaking down the major shifts happening right now: market overcrowding and why being first to market matters, the trust crisis and why buyers are taking longer to convert, why organic social reach isn't what it was, the content shift from information economy to brand economy, and why personal brand is now non-negotiable. People are not buying promises online anymore. They're buying proof. If you don't stand for anything, no one can stand with you. The market doesn't care how we feel. It's going where it's going, and you either adapt or you die. Part two will cover premium buyers, AI, and how clients actually find you today.Timestamps: 03:28 Market Overcrowding Problem10:34 Niche Down for Business Growth17:43 The Trust Crisis: Why Buyers Are Burned21:29 Longer Sales Cycles Explained35:12 Proof Over Promises Strategy38:57 Build Your Nurture Ecosystem41:50 Why Followers Don't Equal Revenue47:08 Content That Actually Converts54:11 Take a Bold Stance in Your Brand01:03:12 Own Your Framework and POVTo join the Ambitious Network for free, click HERE. In this episode of The Exit Whisperer, Carrie sits down with Andrea Johnston, founder of Pure Communications, to unpack what most founders never say out loud: sometimes the business is thriving, the numbers are strong, the offers are real, and you still know it's time to sell. They get into building with intention, why niche agencies scale faster than scattered ones, what private equity actually wants, and how to know whether you're growing a business… or just feeding a machine that no longer fits your life. Andrea also opens up about what she would do differently, why succession planning matters more than founders think, and the hard truth that reacting emotionally will cost you more than almost any bad strategy.00:54 Meet Andrea Johnston02:48 Why She Left Corporate to Start Her Agency04:51 The Gap Between “Starting” and Building a Real Business05:23 How She Scaled Using Only Her Network07:27 The Decision to Niche Down 10:31 The Real Growth Engine: Existing Clients12:15 How Private Equity Entered the Picture17:38 Inside the Sale Process18:14 What Actually Changes After You Sell19:28 How Acquisitions Create Opportunities for Your Team20:15 The Second Exit: Moving Fast in Private Equity21:35 Burnout at the Top 25:22 Taking 2 Years Off 28:41 Building “Fuel for Female Founders”32:24 Final Lessons on Exits, Growth, and Letting Go

What do women really want in 2026? I was asked to answer this at a recent summit where I was invited to speak. After taking time to reflect, two themes became clear. Clarity and cash flow. Not more hustle. Not more striving. Not more busy work or endless social media. Many women say they want peace and simplicity, yet still find themselves chasing strategies that leave them confused and exhausted. They are tired of second guessing their direction. They want clear steps. They also want consistent income. Because when cash flow is steady, it creates options. It allows you to support your family, give generously, and build without chaos or panic producing. In this episode, I break down why clarity must come first and how true cash flow becomes the fruit of serving the Lord faithfully through your business. This training will help you refocus on what actually produces aligned growth so you can build with direction, peace, and sustainable income. I pray this blesses you! In this episode of "It's the Bottom Line That Matters," host Jennifer Glass is joined by Daniel McCraine and Patricia Reszetylo to tackle the essential question facing many business owners: How do you effectively market to your ideal customer? The discussion zeroes in on the concept of niche marketing—moving away from the temptation to "market to everyone" and, instead, thoughtfully narrowing your focus to identify and truly understand your perfect client, or avatar. Using lively examples from their own experience, including Patricia's background in the equine industry, the trio unpacks practical ways to get inside the minds and worlds of specific groups, from moms over 40 to veterans, and explains why specificity matters so much in successful marketing. The episode is rich with actionable advice, such as segmenting your audience, matching your messaging to your niche's interests, and using the exact language your target group uses (not marketing jargon or internal company lingo). Daniel and Patricia also touch on the fear business owners sometimes feel about “niching down” too far, offering a fresh perspective on how being a “big fish in a small pond” can make a business far more competitive and memorable. Listeners will learn about the importance of personalizing marketing efforts—down to details like images on packaging that resonate with a specific audience—and the pitfalls of generic messages. The conversation wraps up with tips on resonating authentically with your audience, emphasizing that confused or overlooked customers won't buy, and urging business owners to “get as granular as possible” for real results. If you want to boost your marketing impact and discover exactly how to speak your customers' language, you'll come away from this episode with strategies you can use right away.KEYWORDS: ideal client, avatar, niche marketing, market segmentation, sales copy, persuasive language, marketing to moms, marketing to veterans, marketing to baby boomers, marketing to kids, equine marketing, teleseminar, customer agreements, buying decisions, writing for your audience, niching down, consumer lingo, affinity marketing, product targeting, retailer marketing, sales letters, demographic segmentation, direct marketing, customer needs, decision makers, gym marketing, nutritional supplement drinks, sales funnels, veteran marketing, retail product labelingHere are 3 key takeaways from the episode:The Power of Specificity: The tighter you define your niche, the easier it becomes to tailor copy, metaphors, and offers that truly resonate with your audience. Patricia Reszetylo shares how talking directly to a single customer makes your message more persuasive.Know Your Audience's Language: Whether you're targeting veterans, horse owners, or moms over 40, using your audience's language—not yours—boosts credibility and relevance. As Jennifer Glass reminds us, lingo matters!Go Beyond Demographics: Overlay affinities, interests, and experiences for an even smaller “pond”—think not just “golfers,” but “golfers who ride Harleys.” It's about understanding not just who they are, but what they care about. If you're ready to step out of the ‘market to everyone' trap and start truly connecting with your best-fit clients, give the full episode a listen!#MarketingStrategy #BusinessGrowth #FindYourNiche #ItsTheBottomLineThatMatters #PodcastTakeaways

How many times have the gurus advised you to niche down and narrow the focus of your show? But do you feel this is the right advice, or are you being put in a box? After hearing indie podcaster Jacqueline Monroe push back on the “niche rule,” we dove headfirst into the debate. Some of us see niching as a growth strategy and a path to monetization. Others argued that building your brand and finding your voice matter more than fitting into a neat category. Along the way, we asked hard questions: Can “just being yourself” really be a strategy? Is it possible to grow broad and still connect deeply? And does every podcast need to monetize to be successful? This conversation isn't about rules; it's about what works for you. When it comes to podcasting, the only box that matters is the one you decide to build.Episode Highlights: [02:26] Segment Introduction [05:39] Jacqueline Monroe's Philosophy[07:17] Discussion: Is Niching Down Necessary?[15:54] Reframing the Niche Debate[29:43] Niching Down vs. General Topics[46:10] Examples of Non-Niched Podcasts[50:21] New Segment Idea: Clip DiscussionsLinks & Resources: Join The Empowered Podcasting Facebook Group:www.facebook.com/groups/empoweredpodcastingThe Jacqueline Monroe Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFsUX8YeuRQcuQgcE37T4AgEmpowered Podcasting Conference 2 Retrospective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0bBC8m2syERemember to rate, follow, share, and review our podcast. When it comes to starting an online business, one of the most common pieces of advice is to “niche down.” Instead of trying to cover an entire industry or topic family, niching down means choosing a smaller slice of the pie to specialize in. In this week's Web News, Matt and Mike explore whether that same strategy can apply to developers. Is there value in mastering a narrow set of skills and becoming the go-to authority in that niche? Or does broad knowledge provide more flexibility in a fast-moving industry? Show Notes: https://www.htmlallthethings.com/podcast/should-you-niche-down-as-a-developer

Our guest in this episode is Jason Van Orden, a business strategist who uniquely combines his background as a software engineer with two decades of marketing expertise. He has dedicated his career to helping creators and thought leaders build sustainable businesses, and now he's pioneering how they can partner with AI to amplify their impact. In our chat, Jason unpacks his brilliant approach to using AI as a "thinking partner," sharing frameworks that help entrepreneurs unlock their own genius while maintaining authentic human connection.Key points discussed include:* Treat AI as a creative thinking partner to enhance your own unique thinking, not replace it.* Organize your unique expertise so AI can communicate authentically in your voice and on your behalf.* Use discernment to ensure AI deepens your critical thinking and fosters genuine human connection.Listen to the podcast to find out more.Innovabiz Substack is a reader-supported publication. So much has changed since our last chat, especially with the explosion of artificial intelligence into our daily lives. Jason, who has always been a master of strategic frameworks for entrepreneurs, has pivoted to meet this moment head-on, providing creators and thought leaders with a powerful new way to approach AI—not as a mysterious black box, but as a genuine creative partner. Our conversation was a refreshing dose of practical wisdom. We moved past the hype and the fear, digging into how we, as entrepreneurs, can form a real partnership with these new tools. Jason's insights are all about shifting our perspective to build sustainable, human-centred businesses in an age where technology is more powerful than ever. The "Thinking Partner" Paradigm: Escaping the "Prompt and Pray" TrapMany of us have experienced what Jason brilliantly calls the "prompt and pray" approach. You ask a generic question, you get a generic, robotic answer, and you walk away disappointed. Jason argues that this is fundamentally the wrong way to look at it. The most critical shift we can make is to stop treating AI like a vending machine and start treating it as a "thinking partner."Think of it like Tony Stark in his lab with his AI, Jarvis. It's a dynamic, back-and-forth collaboration. The AI isn't there to replace your thinking; it's there to enhance it, to provide feedback, to pull resources, and to help you execute your vision. This simple change in mindset opens up a world of creative possibilities and moves us from being passive users to active collaborators.Your Knowledge, Supercharged: Structuring Your Intellectual Property for AIJason works with countless experts who feel they are "sitting on this goldmine" of knowledge and intellectual property they've developed over years, but they struggle to leverage it effectively. The true magic happens when you teach AI to think like you, and that starts with organizing your unique expertise into frameworks that the AI can understand and apply. When you provide the AI with the context of your specific business—your vision, your values, your ideal clients, and your core ideas—it can generate assets that are genuinely in your voice and based on your expertise. Instead of getting a generic blog post, you get one that reflects your unique perspective, all because you took the time to structure your knowledge for your new thinking partner. The Art of the AI Conversation: From Simple Prompts to Iterative DialogueA true partnership isn't about single commands; it's about an ongoing conversation. Jason shared a fantastic process for moving beyond simple prompts. You can engage the AI in an iterative dialogue, asking it to analyze a successful piece of content, deconstruct its framework, and then help you apply that template to your own ideas. This turns AI into a powerful brainstorming tool. You can ask it for ten different ways to approach a problem, have it outline potential solutions, and then refine those ideas together. It's in this back-and-forth exchange that the real value emerges, saving you cognitive energy and helping you make connections you might have missed on your own.Keeping AI Honest: Strategies for Critical and Discerning CollaborationOne of the most valuable, and often overlooked, pieces of advice Jason shared is how to handle AI's built-in agreeableness. These tools are designed to be helpful, which means they often won't challenge a bad idea. To counteract this, you need to be a discerning collaborator and build in your own checks and balances.Jason suggests clever tactics, like taking an idea to one AI, then taking its response to a different AI for a critique. It's like getting a second opinion. You can also give the AI specific criteria and ask it to assess your ideas against them, forcing it to be more analytical. This ensures that you remain the final, critical judge of the output.Deeper Connections, Not Deeper Fakes: Using AI to Enhance Human RelationshipsCounterintuitively, AI can be a powerful tool for strengthening human connection. Jason shared a brilliant example of writing an emotionally charged email, then asking AI to rewrite it using the principles of "Nonviolent Communication." The result is a message that achieves its goal without burning bridges. This highlights the importance of using AI responsibly and transparently. Jason recommends establishing a clear "AI policy" for your business, letting your audience know how you use the technology. This builds trust and reinforces that, while you may use AI to assist your process, your expertise and your commitment to human connection remain at the core of everything you do.The Dawn of the Agent: What's Next for AI and Human CreativityLooking ahead, we discussed the exciting emergence of AI "agents"—proactive assistants that can manage complex tasks, from tracking client progress to suggesting follow-ups. Imagine having a personal Jarvis that truly helps you manage your day so you can focus on high-impact, creative work.As these tools become more integrated into our lives, Jason's final piece of advice is perhaps the most important. The number one skill we must all cultivate is discernment. We need to understand how these tools work, where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and how to use them wisely to amplify our own unique human genius. In Summary: Jason Van Orden provides a clear, strategic roadmap for entrepreneurs to embrace AI thoughtfully. By treating AI as a thinking partner, structuring our unique knowledge, engaging in iterative dialogue, and always applying a layer of human discernment, we can leverage this technology to not only scale our businesses but also deepen our human connections. The Buzz - Our Innovation RoundHere are Jason's answers to the questions of our innovation round. Listen to the conversation to get the full scoop.* Most innovative use of AI to enhance human relationships – Reframing emotionally charged emails using the principles of Nonviolent Communication before you send them.* Best thing to integrate AI and human connection – Using it as a non-judgmental sounding board for personal matters, like working through struggles or getting advice on how to approach difficult family conversations.* Differentiate by leveraging AI – Developing a deep level of discernment to understand how AI works so you can use it responsibly and effectively.ActionVisit jasonvanorden.com/ai to download a free workshop from Jason. He started back in 2005 when the medium was still a niche, experimental frontier. This isn't just a career detail; it gives him a unique historical perspective and an "OG" status that is incredibly rare and authentic. He didn't just join a trend; he helped build the industry.* He Made a Conscious Choice to Niche Down for Impact, Not Just Profit. At one point, he had a very successful, broad business in the general "internet marketing" space. He made a deliberate decision to move away from that to focus more narrowly on helping course creators and thought leaders. This reflects a deep integrity and a desire to do more meaningful, focused work, even if it meant stepping away from a wider, perhaps more lucrative, audience.* His Frameworks are for Life, Not Just Business. Jason applies his systematic, framework-based thinking to "life design" as a whole. He doesn't see a hard line between building a business and building a life. This holistic approach is compelling because it shows his work is not a set of marketing tactics, but a complete philosophy for living with intention.Ready to move beyond just creating content and start creating real connection? In the Age of AI, the future belongs to those who can amplify human wisdom. In this compelling episode, Jeff Mains sits down with Daniel Nalesnik, founder of Hack Chinese, to unravel the journey of building a sticky SaaS product designed to master Mandarin through spaced repetition. Daniel shares how personal frustration and a deep love for language learning fueled his transition from a full-time student in China to the founder of a thriving EdTech platform.
