Episode 255 of The Independent Characters is all about our experience at Adepticon 2025! We are back from Milwaukee and along with Josh, Chelle, and Carl will be a host of interviews with those of us who went to AdeptiCon in 2025. We had to repost this since Chelle decided she wants to join this episode. She says that she has "Things to say" about AdeptiCon. What that is... is any of our guesses! We will talk about the events and classes we attended as well as the people we met and spoke with. Finally we will give our opinions on this years AdeptiCon and how it performs in it's new location! We hope you enjoy Episode 255. The end of 2024 brings us around to our annual Warhammer 40k Year in Review Episode. Typically we go down an entire list of all releases for the year and weigh in on our opinions of them. However, this year we have a lot to celebrate here and so we are going to change it up a little bit. Not only is it the end of 2024 and the beginning of a new year, it is the 250th Episode of The Independent Characters Podcast. And although we took a couple of breaks on the way here, we have indeed made it to this milestone episode. However, for us it isn't about quantity so much as it is about quality. So we will take some time to discuss a little bit of the history of the show, where we see it going, and what is going on currently. Then, instead of boiling 2024 down to a list of releases by Games Workshop, we will discuss our various favorites of the year in depth. What was our favorite game played of the year? Who was our favorite opponent? What was our favorite release? All of this and more will be discussed as we meander through our opening episode of 2025! And while we don't know exactly how much longer we will have Campbell on our staff before he heads back to the 40k Badcast, we have him now. We hope you enjoy Episode 250! This episode Clint, Josh, and Bryan pledged their eternal service to the Emperor and suited up in some fancy new blue power armor to defend humanity in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2! While only one of us has played the series' first entry, the Warhammer atmosphere and Saber Interactive's tight and polished co-op gameplay pulled all three of the guys through to victory. Its rare in today's video game release landscape to get a well-scoped and extremely high fidelity co-op campaign like Space Marine 2's, so if you are a fan of co-op PVE, enjoy the Warhammer Universe, or just like stomping around as a giant space marine then be sure to check this one out! So suit up with Bryan, Josh, and Clint as they face down the Tyranid scourge in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2!Three Word Reviews:Bryan - Epic Cooperative Crusade Josh - Big Boots, FilledClint - Gears of Warhammer

Episode 247 of The Independent Characters witnesses the return of Josh to the show! We continue to have Campbell from the 40kBadcast as our adopted Podcast Partner while Dan is on Paternity leave! (Congrats Dan by the way!) In this episode Carl, Campbell, and Josh discuss the benefits and drawbacks of two different styles of lists. On one hand, there are those who never, or rarely change anything in their list. While on the other hand, you have those who enjoy changing up their lists every game. We will go into the pros and cons of each option, and maybe a few ideas on how you might want to adjust your approach. And yes, that is still new intro music you are hearing at the beginning of the episode. We are going to stick with it for awhile, at least as long as Campbell is guest starring on the show, and see how you folks adapt to it! Be sure to let us know your feedback! Josh will be on a (hopefully) short hiatus from the show. In the meantime we will have a rotating cast of guest hosts as we continue to move forward. Unfortunately, this puts our video efforts temporarily on hold (except for when we do remote interviews). However, the shows audio content continues! This episode has Carl joined by friend, local friendly game store owner, and sponsor, Skye Herrick of Herrick Games and Hobbies! After our usual hobby progress and games played section, we move on to our main topic which seeks to answer the question, "How do you create and sustain a positive gaming community?" With Skye joining us, we have some interesting insight into how the answer to that question may differ for a business as opposed to someone running a club or just local group of friends. We also discuss a bit of the Hobby Progress Challenge for 2024/2025 - if you aren't aware of it, you can find more information on our website. We hope you enjoy!

We hope you enjoy!

https://www.patreon.com/isyanderandkoda You already know how to please the Machine Gods at this point so thank you so much. And make your voices heard for which faction you would like to see next! -Isyander Everything below is for the omnissiah. But like, you can read it if you want. Just a synopsis of the video you're watching. Genestealer Cults are one of the most insidious threats within the Warhammer 40K universe, serving as a hidden menace that can arise from within the very societies they seek to overthrow. Originating from the Tyranids' vanguard species, the Genestealers, these cults infect and subvert planets before the arrival of a Tyranid Hive Fleet, acting as an advance force that sows chaos and disruption. This intricate blending of horror, intrigue, and warfare makes the Genestealer Cults a fascinating topic for any episode dedicated to exploring the darker corners of the 40K lore.At the heart of a Genestealer Cult is the Patriarch, the original Genestealer that founded the cult. Around this figure, a complex hierarchy forms, including the Magus, Primus, and a variety of hybrid generations, each playing a role in the cult's growth and its eventual uprising. These hybrids range from almost human-like fourth-generation hybrids to the monstrous purestrain Genestealers, demonstrating the cult's evolutionary diversity. The cult's insidious spread through a society is often camouflaged by the guise of a religious or political movement, with later generations of hybrids being able to infiltrate their host society with ease.A Genestealer Cult's ultimate goal is to prepare the world for the coming of the Tyranid Hive Fleet. To this end, they engage in subversive activities, building their numbers and influence until they can launch a devastating uprising. This is a double-edged sword, as the cult's members worship the Tyranids as divine beings, not realizing or caring that their "salvation" will result in their consumption by the very gods they revere.Their fate is a tragic aspect of their existence. Despite their fanatical loyalty to the Tyranids, once a Hive Fleet arrives, the cultists and their offspring are consumed, their biomass harvested to fuel the Tyranid war effort. This grim cycle highlights the existential horror at the core of the Genestealer Cults' narrative, making them a compelling subject for discussion.Exploring the Genestealer Cults offers insights into the themes of corruption, belief, and the horror of losing one's identity to a higher, uncaring power. Their complex society, with its unique blend of human and alien elements, poses an existential threat to the Imperium from within, showcasing the grimdark nature of the Warhammer 40K universe.TIMESTAMPS —— 0:00:00 Intro0:01:30 The Stuff that is No Longer Canon0:10:37 A Bugs Life0:11:02 Gen 10:20:16 Gen 20:21:33 Gen 30:23:49 Gen 40:29:32 An aside on the Kelermorphs0:33:11 Gen 50:37:45 What is the Point of the Genestealers0:46:47 There's a Gen 6?!0:56:21 Our Little Conspiracy Theory1:17:29 The Genestealers' Biggest Problem1:21:32 Closing Thoughts and Unboxing Time—————————— TAGSWarhammer 40K, Genestealer Cults, Tyranids, Patriarch, Magus, Primus, Hive Fleet, Imperium, hybrid generations, purestrain Genestealers, existential horror, uprising, biomass, narrative exploration, corruption, belief————————————Opinions expressed in this video are solely those of Isyander & Koda and in no way reflect the views or opinions of Games Workshop Ltd.Artwork throughout this video is used for educational purposes. if you see your artwork and would like an art credit, message me.Support the show

Episode 230 of The Independent Characters has us return for an update to our Show of Force for the new Space Marines and Tyranid Codexes! Be warned that Show of Force episodes tend to be damaging to people's wallets. We have two great guests join us as well to talk about each of the armies from a competetive perspective (which is not really our expertise!) and they do a fantastic job of educating us. We hope you enjoy our first episode of 2024! Episode 224 sees Josh and Carl joined by Aaron and Justin. If you are looking for a lot of Warhammer 40k hobby progress and games played... well this isn't going to be the episode for you. Just warning you right now. We do however, spend quite a bit of time talking about the various board games we played at our annual 'Geekend' event we do our in central California. (By the way the game we couldn't remember the name of was called Wavelength!) Eventually we get into the meat of the episode and spend some time discussing current topics within the Warhammer 40k Community (or maybe it's just our perception on the community!). Either way it is a hour and a half of discussion and we hope you share your opinions with us in our Discord server or Facebook group! We hope you enjoy Episode 224.
