In this episode of The Valley Today, host Janet Michael visits Jim Barnett Park to discuss the exciting events and programs offered by Winchester City Parks with Parks Director, Chris Konyar. Chris shared that spring has arrived, and with it, a flurry of activities at the park. The turf field, described as the crown jewel, is particularly striking against the backdrop of a transitioning season. One of the most anticipated events is the Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt on April 4th. This unique twist on a traditional Easter egg hunt involves children using flashlights to search for eggs on the turf field at night. Last year's event was a massive success, attracting over 700 children. Due to its popularity, pre-registration is encouraged to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The park also hosts Inflatable Fun Days featuring a variety of fun inflatables for kids and adults alike. These events are themed, with the upcoming one set for March 16th and 17th with a St. Patrick's theme. Additionally, the park offers an Ultimate Frisbee league on Wednesday nights, which has become very popular among adults. Preparations are underway for the July 3rd 'Red, White, and Boom' event, an evening of baseball, fireworks, and family fun. The event garners significant attendance, with over 7,000 people joining last year. Winchester Parks is looking for a variety of vendors, from food trucks to craft sellers, to participate in this well-loved event. The conversation also delved into the park's aquatic programs. With the conclusion of the high school swim season, spring marks the beginning of various swim lessons. Notably, beginners' swim lessons are free for city residents. The park is also hiring lifeguards and swim instructors, offering training and certification in-house. In a new initiative, the park has launched a brick campaign fundraiser. Patrons can buy bricks to be placed in the concourse leading to the new turf fields. The funds raised will support park improvements and maintenance, ensuring that facilities remain in top condition for years to come. Familyland, one of the park's playground areas, is set to undergo major renovations. To ensure the new playground meets the community's needs, the park is holding a suggestion session where patrons can provide input on the features they would like to see. This project aims to create an inclusive and exciting play area for children of all abilities. For those interested in staying informed about all park activities and updates, the best way is to sign up for the Winchester Parks newsletter by visiting their website: winchester.va.gov/parks.

In this episode, we welcome Jim Barnett, the CEO and co-founder of Wisq, a groundbreaking platform transforming workplace coaching with AI. With a mission to make success accessible to all, Wisq brings expertise from the team behind Glint, merging years of HR innovation into a virtual coach that helps employees thrive at every stage of their careers. Discover how Wisq's AI-driven guidance helps individuals develop leadership skills, achieve personal growth, and drive business outcomes. Jim shares his personal journey and passion for creating tools that empower people to be happier and more successful at work. With a track record as the founder of multiple industry-changing platforms like Glint and Turn, Jim has a unique perspective on employee engagement and development. Through Wisq, he's helping redefine how employees approach professional growth, focusing on building an environment where everyone can excel.
In this first part of a series on AI tools for HR, I start the conversation with Marc Malloy and Jim Barnett, of Wisq, a software development company that focuses on employee communications software. We dove deep on AI's potential as a transformative tool for leadership and employee development. We talk about how AI, when integrated into HR processes, can support leaders in real-time, offering personalized guidance and feedback tailored to both company goals and individual needs. The idea of embedding an AI coach into performance reviews, helping managers prepare for tough conversations, and even assisting in follow-ups on development goals is game-changing. It shifts the manager's role from being overwhelmed by administrative tasks to being more present and impactful in their leadership. In my experience, leaders often face challenges when navigating accountability and empathy, especially in industries like ours where patient care intersects with business goals. Having an AI tool that provides advice on how to approach those difficult conversations, rooted in both empathy and accountability, ensures that managers are equipped to be more effective and compassionate leaders. As someone who has always been passionate about curating a meaningful human experience in the workplace, I see this as a way to bring that vision to life in a scalable, impactful way. I hope that you enjoy this episode and others to come in this space of AI. I'm excited about what it can do for us moving forward and I think it may inspire you as well. “I worked for people who have achieved a lot but didn't seem all that happy in life,” shares Jim Barnett, a seasoned CEO with leadership roles at Wisq, Glint, and LinkedIn. This realization sparked a 35-year journey into happiness and consciousness, leading Jim to explore meditation and conscious leadership. Introduced to meditation by a monk in Los Angeles, Jim's daily practice has since become a cornerstone of his personal and professional life. Through YPO and transformative retreats, he deepened his commitment to conscious living, eventually partnering with Diana Chapman of the Conscious Leadership Group. Her teachings on the 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership impacted his approach to leadership. Jim discusses how shifting from a stress-driven mindset to one focused on awareness and intentionality transformed not just his well-being but also the culture within his organizations. He also highlights the potential of AI to fill gaps in traditional HR, offering accessible coaching and support to managers and employees. For entrepreneurs, Jim emphasizes the importance of building a strong company culture from the outset. His advice? Prioritize actions that reflect thoughtfulness, inclusion, and collaboration to create a workplace where happiness and success can thrive. Quotes “I'm so dedicated to helping people be happy and successful at work that I see this as a way of being of service to humanity, rather than trying to achieve a specific business outcome.” (17:33 | Jim Barnett) “I think the role of a manager is to be a guide for the team and the people on the team in all areas. The challenge is that a lot of managers don't have the skill set required to be a good manager. Typically, what we do is find the highest performer, and that performer then becomes the manager.” (25:53 | Jim Barnett) “I would say one cheat code for approaching anything consciously is to approach it with curiosity. If you come from a place of “I'm right, they're wrong,” that's not likely to lead to the best outcome.” (32:48 | Jim Barnett) “Don't just talk about culture. Let your actions show how important culture is. Dedicate yourself to creating a culture of thoughtfulness, inclusion, empowerment, responsibility, communication, and collaboration. Be very thoughtful and purposeful about it. I think it's super important.” (42:51 | Jim Barnett) Links Connect with Jim Barnett: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-barnett-a5312/ Website: https://www.wisq.com/ Connect with Alex Raymond: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/afraymond/ Website: https://consciousentrepreneur.us/ HiveCast.fm is a proud sponsor of The Conscious Entrepreneur Podcast. We take you on a wonderful trip down memory lane with our newest exclusive shoot interview with one of wrestling's all time greatest managers, Playboy Gary Hart. An underrated booker, Hart earned his chops in wrestling working for Fritz Von Erich's World Class promotion and helped make that Texas territory one of the most exciting in wrestling history. Seeing everything first hand, Hart talked about all the big angles – including the night Terry Gordy slammed the cage door on Kerry Von Erich along with the hair match between the Von Erichs and Gino Hernandez and Chris Adams – and all the heartbreaking stories of the era. This is the perfect supplement for anyone who enjoyed the Heroes of World Class DVD. Gary gives one of the most in-depth accounts of World Class on record and went into great detail on the lives, and passings, of each Von Erich. Emotionally powerful, this is a must-watch for any diehard fan of the Von Erichs, World Class, or the wrestling business in general. The information Hart gives just on the television production alone is invaluable as World Class was leaps and bounds ahead of the curve when it came to presentation. This is one shoot you will not want to miss! Hart certainly didn't leave out anything from his legendary WCW run including working with Sting, Great Muta, Terry Funk, and Lex Luger, among others. This is the one shoot where J-Tex finally gets its due! Old school wrestling fans are going to want to drop whatever they are doing and watch this shoot interview immediately as Gary Hart has seen it all and is one of the few who are still here to talk about it. Bill Watts. Jim Barnett. Paul Boesch. Bruiser Brody. Hart even worked for Court Bauer's MLW! Like we said, we covered EVERYTHING.

They talk about Ole's legendary feud with the great Dusty Rhodes, and how he later ended up in the Four Horsemen with Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Ric Flair. They also discuss his career as booker and eventual owner of Georgia Championship Wrestling, including the debacle of the Black Scorpion & Sting angle, the secret (and hostile) takeover and purchase of the promotion by Vince McMahon and The Briscoes, and how Ole didn't see the talent in Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage or Hulk Hogan! Bob Mould is a critically-acclaimed musician and founding frontman of indie rock band, Husker Du, and also served on the WCW creative team in the late 90s! Bob is a life-long wrestling fan who befriended legendary promoter Jim Barnett, and ultimately got offered a job at WCW. Bob shares some great stories about pitching ideas to Hulk Hogan, working with Kevin Nash, Dusty Rhodes, Kevin Sullivan, Vampiro, and what happened when Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara came to WCW. He talks about the guys he thought should have made it, the ones he tried hard to help, and what he thinks led to the demise of WCW. Plus, Bob talks music and touring, including his most recent album, “Blue Hearts,” and his new EP, “The Ocean,” which are both available now at BobMould.com, and how he came “this close” to producing Nirvana's “Nevermind” album.
