Hosts: Leah Murray and Maura Carabello Two weeks to Election Day: Where is the presidential race today? We’re now two weeks away from Election Day. Because of mail-in voting, however, it’s basically election day from here until November 5th. We catch listeners up-to-speed on where things sit in the presidential race, including an update on polling that now shows Donald Trump may be outperforming Kamala Harris in key battleground swing states. U.S. House of Representatives reaches milestone in number of bills introducedFor the first time since the 1970s, the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced more than 10,000 bills this year. Does that huge number mean Congress is being ultra productive? Eh, maybe not. KSL at Night hosts Leah Murray and Maura Carabello discuss why there are so many bills this year and how to really determine if Congress is being effective. Recommendations released from panel investigating attempted assassination attemptA special panel investigating the failure of the Secret Service to protect former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania has released their findings, saying the entire Secret Service needs “fundamental reform.” Their report lists several recommendations for fixing the cultural issues within the agency; we discuss a few of them. Lack of panel members resulting in delays for State Records CommitteeThe desire for government transparency has led to an increase in requests — and appeals — to the State Records Committee. In addition, the committee hasn’t been able to make official decisions due to a lack of confirmed panel members. What’s causing this delay and how could it affect the public? KSL Investigator Danielle Rivera answers those questions on KSL at Night. Meet the candidate: Jenny Wilson for Salt Lake County MayorThis election cycle, Salt Lake County residents have the opportunity to pick their next mayor. On KSL at Night, we’re interviewing the candidates to get their takes on topics like housing, homelessness, budgets, and more. Jenny Wilson, incumbent Democratic candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor joins the show to walk listeners through her campaign and where she stands on the important issues. Meet the candidate: John Curtis for U.S. SenateWith 7 years in the House and dozens of bills passed, current 3rd Congressional District Representative and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate John Curtis says he’s ready to move into a new role in Washington, DC. He joins KSL at Night in the studio to discuss his campaign and how he’ll represent Utah. He also shares insights on how his time in the House of Representatives will help him in the Senate. Rise in 3rd-party candidates and races with write-in candidatesIf you’re like many Utahns who’ve received their ballots this election, you may notice what seems like an overabundance of 3rd-party candidates and races with write-in candidates. What could be causing this rise in non-Republican and non-Democratic candidates? KSL at Night hosts Leah Murray and Maura Carabello discuss the trend here in Utah and how it differs from the national stage. What’s it like to moderate a debate?Have you ever wondered what it’s like to moderate a debate? A lot of people say they have no desire to ever moderate a debate purely due to the public scrutiny that comes after the fact. Leah Murray and Maura Carabello discuss what they expect out of tomorrow's debate, and compare it to presidential debates of the past. Maura also offers thoughts on how candidates can prepare for debates. Congress returns for a busy Fall session; what’s on the agenda?First up on Congress’ agenda as they return to the Capitol: avoiding a government shutdown. Republicans want to add a noncitizen voting bill to the budget proposal; why? What else is Congress hoping to achieve before the end of the year? KSL at Night hosts Leah Murray and Maura Carabello fill our listeners in on what other things Congress wants to do. The impact of housing unaffordability on healthUtah’s housing issues – both in terms of affordability and living conditions – are having negative effects on Utahns’ health. That’s according to a new study from the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. Melanie Beagley, Public Policy Analyst at the Institute breaks down the research. The KSL at Night hosts then spend some time discussing their own experiences and thoughts on housing and health. How the internet and social media have reshaped American politicsAs people across the country increasingly turn to social media and other platforms to get their news, the sphere of social media has become a new public space for discussing – and often arguing bitterly – about political and social issues. How are people interacting with politics on social media? KSL at Night hosts Leah Murray and Maura Carabello talk about how they navigate political life online.

The hosts discuss Romney’s statements, including his comparison of the upcoming debates to the Muppets. What took Romney so long to say something like this? The hosts try to figure it out. Protests across college campuses around Israel and social media If you look solely at the headlines, you may be led to believe that the majority of college students in the country are opposed to Israel’s response to the October 7th massacre. But the data tells a different story… one that shows college students are much more fractured than they seem when assigning blame for the conflict in Israel. Current status of the Great Salt Lake The Great Salt Lake is improving bit by bit. How can we make sure that trend continues? What are the options for our institutions that want to make sure it stays there? The KSL at Night hosts are joined by Tim Davis, Great Salt Lake Deputy Commissioner, to talk about the strategic plan for the lake and the focus areas they’ve identified. What can you do to help save the Great Salt Lake? Guest Bio:Since 2008, Thomas Wright has been the president and principal broker of Summit Sotheby's International Realty. Since stepping in as the managing partner, the company has become the top brokerage in the Park City resort community and a leading brokerage in Utah. Summit Sotheby's International Realty's gross yearly sales volume has grown from a healthy $135 million in 2008 to $2 billion in 2018.To achieve this market position, Thomas has brought his relentless work ethic, creative thinking and vision, and an invaluable understanding of the real estate brokerage industry. While he demands a lot from his agents and employees, Thomas is very quick to credit the success of Summit Sotheby's International Realty to his incredibly talented team of approximately 200 sales associates in 13 offices statewide, incomparable administrative staff of about 50 talented individuals, and the support of the remarkable Sotheby's International Realty brand.Thomas also believes that a less obvious aspect of the company's success comes from their unique take on the definition of luxury. To quote Thomas, “It's not about a price point, it is about providing every client with an exceptional customer service experience”. The impressive success story of Summit Sotheby's International Realty has caught the attention of the Sotheby's International Realty network. As a result, Thomas has become a nationally-recognized speaker and advisor. His frequent topics include improving individual agent and brokerage profitability, sales associate recruiting, new development marketing, and brokerage management. These significant achievements and leadership responsibilities have not hindered Thomas from being of service to his clients. He continues to be a top-performing sales agent specializing in Salt Lake County.Born and raised in Utah, Thomas attended Quince Orchard High School in the greater Washington, D.C. area. After graduating, he spent two years in Eastern Europe. When he returned to the States, Thomas's overseas experience inspired him to learn more about Ukraine and Russia and its culture. He graduated from the University of Utah on a full-ride golf scholarship with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Russian and Marketing. Through his experiences and education, Thomas has grown to appreciate cultural and perspective differences, confirming that good ideas and people come from all walks of life. This is a philosophy he extends to the communities and organizations he now serves, including each of the agents that represent Summit Sotheby's International Realty.A civically-minded person, Thomas is proud to have served in a number of different capacities with several key organizations in his community -- United Way of Utah and Dixie State University Board of Trustees. He currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Utah Symphony/Utah Opera and was appointed in 2017 to the Utah State Board of Regents by Governor Gary Herbert. Thomas is the co-chairman of the Utah Debate Commission and has twice been elected to serve as volunteer chairman of the Utah Republican Party and the Salt Lake County Republican Party. Tanya is a leader and a pioneer. As Vice President for Bonneville SLC, she is the first woman not only in her organization but the entire state of Utah to hold that position. Tanya has over 25 years of experience in media (TV, radio, digital and podcasts). She was an award-winning journalist for CBS and has led operations and acquisitions. She currently serves on the board of United Way of Salt Lake, the Utah Debate Commission and is a member of the Governor’s suicide prevention task force. Recently, she has been named to the NBC Affiliate Board. Tanya is doing a lot and continues to do what she wants. She has turned down opportunities that would be an amazing addition to any resume because they didn’t align with what she wants to do.    Tanya’s decisiveness is inspiring. It was one of the first things that struck me about her, and we discussed how instrumental it has been to her career and life. If it felt right or allowed her to learn something, she said yes. She believes in making decisions not sitting on the fence. If it isn’t the right decision, that’s okay. Adjust and correct course, but you will never grow and get clear about who you are if you don’t make a choice.
