International relations experts have been voicing concerns about China's influence for years now, and with the U.S. pulling out of a lot of foreign programs and partnerships, it's left this kind of empty hole that China's stepping in to fill. The New York Times reports that the South Pacific island nation of the Solomon Islands is getting a bunch of policing and surveillance help right now from China. Should we be concerned about this kind of thing? Brandon Amacher, Director of the Emerging Tech Policy Lab at Utah Valley University, joins the program to share his take on the situation.

In this episode, host Andrew Pla sits down with Mark Littlefield, VP of Product at PDQ, for a wide-ranging conversation about product management, the PowerShell community, and what it looks like to deeply learn a technical domain when you're not coming from a traditional sysadmin background. Mark shares his journey from tech support to product management, what drew him to PDQ and the challenges facing IT admins, and what surprised him about PowerShell once he started paying close attention. The two also dig into the history behind PDQ Connect's PowerShell Scanner, how product teams learn from customers, the art of storytelling as a PM and sysadmin skill, and more. Key Takeaways: Product management and PowerShell automation share a core philosophy: solve problems at the root, not just on the surface. Whether you're writing a script or building a feature, the goal is to eliminate a challenge entirely rather than patch around it. Understanding your customer requires more than data — it requires immersion. Mark describes going deep into the sysadmin world through customer interviews, internal usage, and community engagement to truly understand the problems facing IT teams. Great storytelling is a transferable skill. Andrew draws a parallel between how Jeffrey Snover used the Monad Manifesto to get internal buy-in at Microsoft and how to use narrative to align teams and push ideas forward. Guest Bio: Mark Littlefield is the VP of Product at PDQ, where he leads product strategy and development for PDQ Connect and the broader PDQ product suite. With over 15 years of product management experience, Mark previously served as VP of Product Management at InsideSales.com, where he oversaw product management and design across the platform. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems with a focus on Business Intelligence from Utah Valley University and is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sharon McMahon is back to explain how political backlash and violent threats canceled her commencement speech at Utah Valley University, and why the message she planned to deliver is more relevant than ever. This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Utah Valley University's Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute serves as a living lab for AI, supporting AI literacy, developing workforce-aligned curricula and acting as a central resource for AI initiatives across campus and Utah's higher education system. Senior Director of the Applied AI Institute, Tyler Small, joins us with more. Tyler Small: So we know that AI can be incredibly disruptive in business, education and in work in general. So, at UVU, we created an AI transformation strategy with specific measurements that will enable each faculty member, and each student and staff to transform themselves, and integrate AI into their learning and work. And a big part of this is that we're building ways for faculty to be able to use AI to provide even more work experiences for their students. And it's not always possible to find an industry partner and manage a working relationship for students in their class projects. But while AI is making those industry connections easier, it's also providing ways to build simulations of relevant work scenarios — in seconds instead of hours. And so, in either case the students get to practice their skills on real-work problems. Derek Miller: UVU's Applied AI Institute is making a difference in Utah by advancing AI education, preparing students with in-demand skills and supporting workforce needs. Learn more at UVU.edu. Dr. Frank Turek was standing just 25 feet away when Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. In this raw, heartfelt interview, Turek shares the full eyewitness story: the final walks and conversations with Charlie about government, the resurrection, family, and marriage; the chaotic moments after the shot; the desperate drive to the hospital while holding Charlie; the surgeon's words; and Charlie's grieving widow Erika Kirk's strength and call to continue the mission. Turek also addresses the conspiracy theories swirling around the tragedy (including attacks on Erika), why Occam's Razor points to a lone radicalized shooter, Charlie's humility and time management as a mentor figure, and how this "impact event" has amplified the gospel. He pivots to the big questions: Why does God allow evil? How does the cross reconcile justice and love? And why Charlie is in heaven not because of his accomplishments, but because of Jesus' sacrifice. A powerful tribute to a young man who lived boldly for Christ, united conservatives, and inspired a generation. Watch till the end for Turek's gospel presentation from the memorial service and reflections on courage, grief, and legacy. If this moves you, share it — Charlie would want the truth and the gospel to keep spreading.Go to https://www.freedomcon26.com/ to register for Freedom Con 2026!Support the showThanks for listening! Go to www.StrongerManNation.com for more resources.

Take 2 Podcast, Friday, April 10, 2026 Heidi Hatch with Maura Carabello of Exoro Group and Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz. Vice President JD Vance is set to lead ceasefire talks this weekend, as tensions tied to a potential conflict with Iran continue. There are ongoing questions about whether a ceasefire will hold and if the Strait of Hormuz will remain open. Gas prices in Utah are now higher than the national average, $4.26 compared to $4.16. Lawmakers are also discussing how the state's gas tax bill works and what it means for drivers. As the legislative session wraps, the group looks at highlights and lowlights, including early fundraising in Utah's newly redrawn congressional districts and the latest update on efforts to repeal Proposition 4. President Donald Trump is requesting $1 billion to restore and protect the Great Salt Lake, bringing renewed attention to the lake's decline and long-term environmental concerns. Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson is urging the Department of Homeland Security to abandon a proposed detention center in Salt Lake City. In an April 6 letter, she raised concerns about the plan, as questions remain about whether DHS can back out after already purchasing the site. Utah's job market continues to grow. Nonfarm payroll employment increased an estimated 0.6% over the past 12 months as of January 2026. A Utah Valley University commencement decision is drawing more attention. The selection of Sharon McMahon as speaker is facing criticism, with College Republicans speaking out against the choice.   Photo Courtesy: Jackson Murphy

From his exciting journeys in Africa to his time spent on the mission field closer to home. With brutal honesty that will both encourage and mesmerize, Bruce Wolff,  the founder and executive director of Brigade Air, Inc. and author of Finding Hope Navigating an Obscure Path: Learning to Trust God When You Can Barely Understand Him, shares details about an incredible life lived for the glory of God.Children across our nation are facing serious threats — exploitation, trafficking, abuse, and neglect. Too often, these dangers remain hidden, leaving vulnerable children without the protection and advocacy they desperately need. On April 12th in Huntsville, One Voice: United for the Children, a powerful community rally where families, leaders, advocates, and concerned citizens will come together to stand up, speak out, and declare that protecting our kids is not a political issue — it is a moral responsibility. EmmaSara McMillion, founder of the Mother of Change Foundation, is scheduled to join me to discuss the event and the issues behind it.Six months after Tyler Robinson allegedly assassinated Charlie Kirk with a sniper shot to the neck at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, the evidence against him appears overwhelming: his DNA on the rifle's trigger and a towel wrapped around the weapon, trace evidence like footprints and palm prints from the rooftop, a pre-shooting note expressing intent to "take out" Kirk, text messages confessing to his partner, and an alleged obsession documented in his digital footprint. Yet a wave of influencers, podcasters, and online commentators—many on the right—are aggressively amplifying defense claims that an inconclusive ATF bullet analysis "exonerates" Robinson or proves the rifle wasn't the murder weapon. Headlines scream "bullet did NOT match," while court filings and experts clarify it's simply not a conclusive microscopic match (common in ballistics, especially with fragments). No evidence clears him; the defense is doing its job by poking holes, but the broader narrative push feels coordinated and premature. Nils Grevillius, Los Angeles-based Private Investigator, is scheduled to join me to discuss the phenomenon. Four-and-a-half years after he was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a Dutch teen was euthanized at his request. The boy, aged between 16 and 18, had described his life as "joyless." He'd struggled with anxiety and mood-related problems, and where he fit in, in the world. Oversensitive to stimuli, "every day was an ordeal he had to get through," according to the latest annual report from the Netherlands' regional euthanasia death review committees. Despite his young age, his doctor had "no doubts whatsoever" that the youth had the mental capacity to appreciate what he was seeking, and that there was no prospect of improvement, according to the case report. Katie Asher, co-author of The Book of Heaven: A Story of Hope for the Outcasts, the Broken, and Those Who Lost Faith, is scheduled to join me to discuss the case and how similar events are creeping into the United States.Brigade Air, Inc: https://www.brigadeair.org/Finding Hope Navigating an Obscure Path: Learning to Trust God When You Can Barely Understand Him: https://amzn.to/4mnZQRYONE Voice: United For Our Children:https://www.themocfoundation.org/onevoiceMother of Change Foundation: https://www.themocfoundation.org/Grevillius Detective Services: https://grevilliuspi.com/The Last Lawman: True Stories of a Private Detective: https://amzn.to/41lqe5jAsher House: https://www.asher.house/The Book of Heaven: A Story of Hope for the Outcasts, the Broken, and Those Who Lost Faith: https://amzn.to/4sWQKxUBecome a supporter of Tapp into the Truth: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tapp-into-the-truth--556114/support Tapp into the Truth on Rumble. Lewis argues that the familiar political spectrum dividing society into “left” and “right” oversimplifies political reality and distorts how Americans understand issues, parties, and even each other.Lewis explains how the left-right framework emerged historically, why it became dominant in modern political discourse, and how it encourages ideological tribalism. Instead of seeing politics as a complex set of issues where people may agree on some topics and disagree on others, the spectrum pushes citizens to sort themselves into rigid teams. According to Lewis, this mindset can reduce intellectual humility, weaken meaningful dialogue, and contribute to the rising hostility in American politics. The conversation explores how media ecosystems reinforce ideological identities, why political beliefs often cluster together even when they have little logical connection, and how faith communities can offer a different approach to civic engagement. Lewis suggests moving beyond ideological labels and focusing on individual issues, allowing for more thoughtful discussion and collaboration across differences. For listeners interested in understanding polarization, political identity, and how faith might shape a healthier civic culture, this episode offers a thoughtful examination of the assumptions that structure modern political debate. The Myth of Left and Right: How the Political Spectrum Misleads and Harms America: https://bookshop.org/a/112456/9780197680629Guest BioVerlan Lewis is an associate professor of political science and constitutional studies at Utah Valley University and a fellow at the university's Center for Constitutional Studies. EPISODE 685 - Scott Hatfield - The Shadow of Cáelunárra, Semi-Clean and  NO SPICE - Epic Dark Immersive FantasyAbout the authorScott A. Hatfield Jr. is a lifelong storyteller, political scientist, and avid hiker who blends myth, emotion, and world-shaping prophecy into his writing. Based in the Intermountain West, Scott draws inspiration from the raw landscapes of Utah, his academic studies, and the human struggles that echo through history. He earned his Master of Public Administration from Utah Valley University and has studied abroad at the University of Oxford. After years of imagining the world of Cáelunárra, it was an injury sustained while scouting trails for his nonprofit—the Utah Trail Association—that finally pushed him to write it. That first story quickly became a multi-book saga. His debut novel, The Shadow of Cáelunárra, launches a sweeping epic of destiny, darkness, and the high cost of hope. When he's not writing, Scott can be found deep in the mountains with his wife, young daughter, and a very opinionated chihuahua.https://www.facebook.com/p/Scott-Hatfield-the-Author-61578132508209/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Ben Schilaty, a former BYU Honor Code administrator, is a social work professor and author who discusses his life as a gay Latter-day Saint. He details his professional background, and his current work with the Gather Conference. Schilaty shares his personal faith journey, explaining how he reconciles his sexual orientation with his commitment to the Church through prayer and personal revelation. He advocates for radical empathy and honoring the individual agency of LGBTQ members, whether they choose to stay in or leave the faith. Throughout the conversation, he emphasizes the importance of sincere listening and building supportive communities where diverse experiences are validated. https://youtu.be/EzjYxEAfsYs Don’t miss our other LDS Faith Journeys: https://gospeltangents.com/tag/lds-faith-journeys/ Ben Schilaty: Navigating Faith and Identity Ben Schilaty is a professor of social work at Utah Valley University and author of A Walk in My Shoes. He shared a deeply personal look at his life as a gay Latter-day Saint. Schilaty, who humorously describes himself as “fame-ish” due to the parasocial relationships readers and listeners have formed with him, offers a unique perspective on the intersection of faith, identity, and belonging. Journey of Three Stages Ben describes his internal journey in three distinct phases. In his 20s, he felt “broken” and believed he needed to be “fixed” to fit the mold of a traditional Latter-day Saint marriage. In his early 30s, the pendulum swung, and he felt that if he couldn’t change, perhaps the Church had to change. Today, he focuses on “living in what is,” a practice of accepting reality as it is to find health and happiness. A pivotal moment in this journey occurred when Ben nearly left the Church after a painful heartbreak. Despite his parents' full support and their promise to honor his agency regardless of his choice, a prayerful encounter with Matthew 26 changed his path. Reflecting on Christ's prayer in Gethsemane, Ben felt a “clear and very annoying prompting” that his “cup” was to live his life within the teachings of the Church—a choice that transformed his religious practice from a burden into something life-giving. BYU Honor Code Providing a rare look into his four years as an Honor Code administrator at BYU, Ben dispels common myths about the office. While many assume the office is preoccupied with “morality” or LGBTQ+ issues, Ben notes that same-sex romantic behavior reports were uncommon, occurring only about ten times a year. Instead, the vast majority of his work involved academic dishonesty, plagiarism, and timecard theft. Building Bridges: The Gather Conference Ben is a co-founder of the Gather conference, a Christ-centered support system for LGBTQ+ Latter-day Saints and their allies. He describes it as a “middle space” compared to other organizations like Affirmation or Northstar. Gather serves a diverse group—about 80-90% of whom are active in the Church—including those in same-sex marriages, those choosing celibacy, and parents or leaders seeking to understand their loved ones better. Radical Acceptance and the Power of Story A major theme of the discussion was radical acceptance and honoring the agency of others. Ben emphasizes that: Listening is a Christlike act: Allies should listen to and validate the pain of those who feel they must leave the Church for their mental health. Forgiveness brings peace: Ben shared a powerful story of inviting a former Stake President over for dinner to find personal peace after a disagreement regarding his temple recommend. Prescription for Revelation: He warns against using his story as a “blueprint” for others, noting that God speaks to us as individuals and we each have our own “prescription” for personal revelation. Ben’s final invitation to the audience is simple: instead of just reading his book or listening to his podcast, invite the LGBTQ+ people in your own life to tell you their stories. Beni Rae Harmony was a trusted WICS NewsChannel 20 anchor in Springfield, Illinois, until one broadcast changed everything. Days after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was killed at an Utah Valley University event, Harmony closed a newscast with an emotional tribute she called “non-partisan,” rooted in personal loss, not politics.Station leadership suspended her for violating editorial policy, and Harmony says she was pressured to walk it back. Instead, she resigned publicly in a viral post, arguing she was being punished not for mocking a tragedy, but for honoring it, and framing her exit as a choice between career security and personal conviction. In this conversation, Dr. Phil presses into the psychological and professional collision at the center of the story: when does “being human” on-air become “taking a side”? What happens to identity when your newsroom's definition of neutrality conflicts with your lived relationships? And what does it cost emotionally, spiritually, and professionally, to bet everything on your voice?
