Eric Lerner is a popular science writer, plasma physicist, and long-time collaborator of the late Nobel laureate Hannes Alfvén. He's also one of the featured speakers at our Beyond the Big Bang event this summer in Sesimbra, Portugal. It was investigated by John Magor, editor and publisher of the Canadian UFO Report, and he provided a report to the Victoria Times. The Victoria Times published an article on the case on page 1 of the January 5, 1970 edition (page 10 of link), and Magor published his version in the Volume 1, Number 7, summer issue of the Canadian UFO Report.News indicating there was an ongoing flap in the area turns up in the December 22, 1969 edition (page 8 of link) of the Victorian Times under the headline “Look Up Islanders, The UFOs Are Watching You.” A sighting by four witnesses in the Ladysmith area is described. Two of the witnesses, Graham Toole, 21, and Albert Birkeland, 22, reported they were driving when they saw an object with three lights, white on top and red on the bottom. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Knight reported seeing what the reporter for the times wrote “must be the same object.” According to the article, they agreed with Toole and Birkeland that it “moved about a mile a second.” Mr. Knight said that he had seen an object in September where “you could see the cabin lights clearly.” The article also describes a “greyish saucer-shaped object with a transparent center” seen by five people over an elementary school in Duncan. Read more →

Barbara Ehardt is the Idaho legislator who passed the first legislation in the nation to protect women in sports. She was a college and youth basketball coach for many years and has significant experience in the area. She has since been working with many states around the nation who have been passing similar bills and she gives Kim and Carolyn an update on her work nationwide and the progress of the lawsuit filed immediately after the passage of her bill. In Utah, recently, two families filed lawsuits against the state for HB 11, Protecting Women in Sports. Professor. Janis Birkeland is Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning in the University of Melbourne. Janis has dedicated her personal, professional and academic life to figuring out what is genuine sustainability - how to plan for a built environment that is not just 'less bad' than the alternatives, but actually returns more to the land and the people who live in and around it thn whatever went before.  Throughout her professional career, she has been drawn to figuring out how cities and buildings, despite their huge impacts, can transform society and save the planet. First, she became an architect and urban designer, transferring into city planning. Later, she became a lawyer to better understand the barriers to systems change. Now she is an academic, author of many dozens of papers and a number of books, of which the most recent is ‘Net- Positive Design and Sustainable Urban Development'. She is a clear and consistent advocate for the design of human settlements that are socially and ecologically ‘net positive' and has just published "Net-Positive Design and Sustainable Urban Development" (Routledge) which provides methods, models and metrics to enable practitioners and students to create eco-positive environments.
