Betts, 19, pleaded guilty to charges including first-degree vehicular homicide. The crash occurred in August 2023 when Betts was allegedly street racing at 100 mph in a 45-mph zone. He lost control, and the car hit a tree, ejecting Huckeba, who died at the scene. Betts was seriously injured. The other driver involved, Caleb Evans Hasty, has been indicted, with his case still pending. STORY 2:     Cobb County Water System Reports 2 Sewage Overflows The Cobb County Water System reported two sewer overflows. The first, on October 4, involved 490 gallons of wastewater due to roots at 4009 Chelsea Lane NE, Marietta, affecting Walden Creek. It was resolved the same day. The second, a larger overflow of 448,890 gallons from September 30 to October 4, was caused by gravel at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, impacting a tributary of Rottenwood Creek. Both incidents involved sewage discharge from manholes, with crews using jet machines to clear blockages and clean the areas. For details, contact the Water System's Maintenance Division. STORY 3:  KSU Students Protest for Palestine One Year into War On the anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel, Kennesaw State University students protested for Palestinian support, urging a Gaza ceasefire. The peaceful protest, joined by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, called for divestment from Israeli entities and an end to Middle East conflicts. KSU's Hillel group observed the day with a moment of silence and distributed pins for hostages' return. Concerns about anti-Israel rhetoric were noted by Jewish students. The protest highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over 41,000 Palestinians reported killed. Campus officials confirmed all groups had permission to protest. A memorial book was displayed, honoring those who passed. Miller hopes to hold reunions more frequently in the future. This week, Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly sits in to discuss the writing and recording of the band's 2003 single “Signals Over the Air”. Taken from the band's third album War All the Time, the song is a dynamic amalgamation of melody and aggression, and it's much rawer than the polished productions that most people would expect from a major label release. In this episode, Geoff dives deep into the inspiration and creation of this landmark single. Bukowski's Drunken Streets: Marco Ferreri's Tales of Ordinary Madness Continuing our exploration of The City of Angels, Mr. Chavez & I dive into the great Los Angeles novelist, short story writer, poet, and "Dirty Old Man" Henry Charles Bukowski (1920 - 1994). Bukowski holds a special place in my heart and memories; Beginning with Notes of a Dirty Old Man and continuing through novels (Women, Ham on Rye), a screenplay (Barfly), and numerous poetry collections (War All the Time: Poems 1981-1984, Septuagenerian Stew: Stories and Poems, The Last Night of the Earth Poems), I have been a fan of Bukowski's work for the better part of three and a half decades. Bukowski's writings depict Los Angeles in a way that few wrtiers are able to match. This week we look at "Bukowski's Los Angeles" as depicted in Marco Ferreri's 1981 adaptation of the short story collection, Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions, and General Tales of Ordinary Madness as Tales of Ordinary Madness featuring Ben Gazarra as Bukowski's alter ego, Henry Chinaski (in the film Charles Serking). A not altogether successful adaptation of Bukowski's work, there is still a great deal to discuss in the failure of Ferreri to capture Bukowski's words, actions, life, and city. Take a listen and let us know what you think. We can be reached at gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks.  As always, we continue to look to you good and loyal listeners for support. Every Album Ever with Mike Mansour & Alex Volz

This week we're discussing every album by Poison Idea. As brutal and crazy as the American hardcore scene was in the early 80s, Poison Idea stood above the rest in how devastatingly real they were. Gun violence, morbid obesity, drug dealing, homelessness, and death are just as much a part of this band as their music. Led by vocalist Jerry A. Lang and guitarist Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts until his death in 2006, Poison Idea make a strong argument for being the kings of punk.Closing track: “Out of the Picture” from Kings of Punk (1986)Spotify episode playlisthttps://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincPatreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @motherpuncherHistory Tom's stuff:Debut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackInstagramTwitterFacebookMike's Picks:Pick Your King EP (1983) — Best Record, Personal FavoriteWe Must Burn (1993) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex's Picks:Feel the Darkness (1990) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteWar All the Time (1987) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Pick Your King EP (1983)Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes EP (1984)Kings of Punk (1986)War All the Time (1987)Feel the Darkness (1990)Blank Blackout Vacant (1992)We Must Burn (1993)Latest Will and Testament (2006)Confuse & Conquer (2015)

Hello and welcome to REPLY ALT, my perfect email newsletter about music which has never had a single typo or msitake in it!I had my West Coast SELLOUT release party last week in Los Angeles and it still amazes me that an entire venue’s worth of people will show up to hear about A BOOK. THE WRITTEN WORD! Thank you for coming if you did! I really do need to set up some events in other cities, huh?I shook a lot of hands and took many pictures with people and as a result I got sick for the first time in two years. Don’t worry, it’s not The Big C. I got tested just to be sure. Just a regular boring cold. Aha, suckers! Your best efforts to infect me with your Covid germs have failed! I AM UNKILLABLE! I’m feeling much better now thank you but you’ll have to excuse the scratchiness in my voice in this interview I recently recorded with Thrice’s Riley Breckenridge. As I mentioned, I’ve been running this series called Sellout Stories in which I talk to some of the supporting players in SELLOUT about their major-label experiences. (Check out previous interviews with Norman Brannon from Texas Is the Reason, Chris #2 from Anti-Flag, and Chris DeMakes from Less Than Jake.) Glad to add Thrice to that list today.I’m forgetting who said it at the moment, but someone I interviewed for the Thursday chapter of SELLOUT told me that around the time the New Jersey band went to Island Def Jam, the label also signed Thrice, almost as a backup plan. You know, in case Thursday didn’t work out. Good to have another ‘Th—” band on deck.I don’t think it was as simple as that, but Thursday certainly did cast a long shadow at Island Def Jam. When the band got bought out from Victory Records for $1.2 million, there were a lot of expectations. The New York Times Magazine compared the band to Metallica and U2. There wasn’t nearly as much drama surrounding their West Coast counterparts in Thrice, but the band did have a similar experience with the label. They got a ridiculously overblown budget to make their major label debut (likely also somewhere around the half-mill mark) and had months to overanalyze it. They were also caught in the unfortunate transitional period when Lyor Cohen left the label and L.A. Reid stepped in.The result of Thrice’s big-budget effort was The Artist in The Ambulance, which was released in July 2003, two months before Thursday’s War All the Time. I figured, since Thrice only got a few passing mentions in SELLOUT, they deserve to have their story expanded upon here. So I convinced drummer Riley Breckenridge to chat about the band’s major label experience.Check it out above or at all the usual podcast places: Spotify, Apple, blah blah blah.Order my book, SELLOUT, here:  B&N | Amazon | Books-A-Million | Bookshop | GoodreadsShop the SELLOUT merch store.Follow me on the internet. Twitter | Instagram | Website Get full access to REPLY ALT at danozzi.substack.com/subscribe
