On this episode, I take a look at the Hall of Fame case for former WWF Champion and one of the craziest characters in pro wrestling history - The Iron Sheik. I look at the qualifications for the Iron Sheik and the Observer Hall of Fame plus my personal story of booking the Iron Sheik once. Then I look back to the mid-1930s to Madison Square Garden and the return of Jim Londos, and a mid-1990s look at the Tokyo Dome and the BVD Martial Arts tournament featuring Antonio Inoki and... This week on the show we obviously kick things off with the Cena heel turn. That was insane. From there we dip our toes into some history before covering the 3/1/01 Smackdown and the No Way Out PPV that preceded it. We have a new WWF Champion in The Rock and are embarking on the road to WrestleMania X7. Before that happens, there is another major event on the horizon... February 5th, 1988 is one of the most historic shows in the Golden Era of the WWF. This was the night Hulk Hogan was defending the WWF title against Andre The Giant. At the end of the match Hulk Hogan kicked out, but the ref counted to 3 anyway. There was chaos in the ring as we saw 2 of the same referees. THERE WERE 2 DAVE HEBNERS! “HOW MUCH DID THE PLASTIC SURGERY COST?” screamed Hulk Hogan! We wouldn't find out why there were 2 Dave Hebners, on that night, but we did know that Andre The Giant was the new WWF Champion. After winning, he immediately gave the belt to The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. Also, Macho Man Randy Savage defended his WWF Intercontinental Title against the Honky Tonk Man and a short match between The Hart Foundation and Strike Force gets cut off as the show ends. Gerald Brisco defeats WWF Hardcore Champion Crash Holly while he is sleeping. The Big Five Project returns to bring 1994 to an end as the guys cover Survivor Series '94. As 1994 came to an end, the winds of change continued to sweep through the WWF and that was highly evident on a November evening in San Antonio. A better event than the year before, Survivor Series '94 featured the break-up of Shawn Michaels and Diesel, a feud that would extend all the way to WrestleMania XI. Meanwhile, Survivor Series '94 would see a shocking WWF Championship title change as Bob Backlund, with a huge assist from Owen Hart, would dethrone Bret "Hitman" Hart in an unforgettable, emotionally charged, and highly controversial match. Thanks to Bret's mother, Mr. Backlund became the oldest WWF Champion in history (at the time) and Owen Hart showed us all just how low he would stoop to screw his brother over. Add in some solid Survivor Series matches, a special appearance by Chuck Norris, and The Undertaker exacting a measure of revenge against Yokozuna and we are left with a very solid PPV to close out 1994! The Big Five Project returns to crown a new King of the Ring. In 1994, on the heels of WrestleMania X, Owen Hart found himself still in the shadow of his brother, Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Although he beat Bret at WrestleMania, it was the Hitman who left as the WWF Champion. On this night, in Baltimore, Maryland, Owen took a major step in carving his own identity as he won three matches to emerge as the King of the Ring for 1994!
