In this episode of Embrace Your Real, we're diving into something that might sound simple at first, but it has completely shifted the way I approach self-care. Something I call "Wellness Pairing"—the idea of combining simple, life-giving habits so they naturally fit into your day.   Because let's be honest. Between work, family, workouts, and everything else pulling at your time, making space to journal, pray, walk, meditate, or even pause to breathe can feel unrealistic.   That's why this episode is all about taking the pressure off. I'm walking you through how I've learned to pair small habits together in a way that feels doable, supportive, and realistic. These aren't elaborate routines. They're little shifts that can help you finally make self-care part of your everyday life   What I discuss: Five easy wellness pairings you can start using right away to make self-care more doable and less overwhelming Simple ways to build consistency—even when life feels full or your schedule is unpredictable Real-life examples to help you create a self-care rhythm that works with your energy, not against it A fresh perspective on what self-care actually looks like (spoiler: it doesn't require silence, candles, or two free hours) Encouragement to show up for yourself in small, meaningful ways—even if no one else sees it. Between work, workouts, meals, family, errands, and a to-do list that feels like it never ends… it can feel like there's no possible way to get it all done. And listen—I've been there, too. There have absolutely been seasons where I've told myself, “If I just had a few more hours in my day, I could finally stay on top of everything.” But here's what I've learned: it's not always about how much time we have—it's about how we're using the time we do have. What Soreness Really Says About Your Workouts

Today's episode is inspired by a question I got from a member of the Movement with Julie community. And I love this question because I know so many of you have probably wondered the exact same thing—especially if you're newer to strength training. Someone asked me whether they should increase weight or reps because they don't always feel sore after working out. Such a good question—and we're breaking it all down today. Because there's a really common belief out there that if you're not sore after your workout, it didn't work. But here's the truth: Soreness does not equal success.   What I discuss: 1. Soreness is Triggered by Novelty, Not Necessarily Effectiveness 2. Soreness Reflects Inflammation, Not Muscle Growth 3. Being Sore Doesn't Mean You're Targeting the Right Muscle Effectively 4. The Body Adapts Quickly (And That's a Good Thing!) 5. Chasing Soreness Can Lead to Overtraining, Not Progress 6. Hey friend! We need to talk about something that might be sabotaging your progress—and I'm not talking about your workouts or your nutrition. I'm talking about how you talk to yourself.  We all have that inner voice, right? And for so many of us, that voice is harsh. It's critical. It says things like: “You should be further along.” “Why can't you be more disciplined?” “You're so lazy. You messed up again.” And the thing is—we think that voice is helping. We think it's keeping us in check, keeping us accountable, making sure we don't slip. But the truth? That voice might be the very thing holding you back from your goals. So in today's episode, we're diving into what the research says about self-criticism versus self-compassion. I'm going to walk you through how to practice self-reflection without spiraling into shame, and I'll give you actual scripts you can use to reframe negative self-talk the moment it shows up. What I Discuss: 1. Why beating yourself up doesn't make you more disciplined, but more discouraged. 2. What really is Self-compassion. 3. How to practice accountability without judgment by asking curious, kind questions. 4. How to change your self-talk in the moment using simple, powerful reframes.   If you loved this episode, you will also love: Episode 480: The Power of Small Efforts in Your Fitness Journey https://www.juliealedbetter.com/embrace-your-real/the-power-of-small-efforts-in-your-fitness-journey    If you want more from me, be sure to check out... You are not losing time by working out—you're buying it back with more energy, patience, and ease. Movement doesn't have to be alone time—you can integrate it into your day, guilt-free. Exercise Snacks: What They Are + Why You Should Use Them

You know I'm all about keeping fitness realistic and attainable—because life can get busy, right? Sometimes it feels impossible to block out 45 solid minutes for a workout. But guess what? You don't have to! Today, we're diving into the power of exercise snacks. These bite-sized bursts of movement can fit into your busiest days and still give you amazing results. If you're ready to learn how a little movement here and there can transform your body, your mood, and your life, this episode is for you! What I discuss:  Exercise snacks are short bursts of movement, 5 to 10 minutes at a time, spread throughout your day. These mini sessions keep your metabolism active, burning more calories and preventing energy crashes from long periods of sitting. Moving even briefly after meals helps stabilize blood sugar, preventing sharp spikes and crashes that lead to hunger and fat storage. Frequent movement improves focus and reduces brain fog, helping you stay productive without feeling drained. Endorphin boosts from exercise snacks lift your mood and lower stress throughout the day, instead of relying on a single long workout. Taking 10 minutes to move your body every hour can add up to a full workout at the end of the day.  It's all about consistency, not perfection—every bit of movement counts toward feeling stronger, more energized, and confident in your body. The #1 Weight Loss Myth We Need to UNALIVE

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 13, 2025 19:49

We've been conditioned to think that weight loss is the goal. That if we just see the number on the scale go down, we'll magically get the lean, toned body we want. But that's not how it works. Weight loss and body composition are not the same thing. Losing weight just means losing weight. It doesn't tell you if that weight is coming from fat or muscle, and it definitely doesn't guarantee you'll look or feel the way you want.   So today, I'm breaking down one of the biggest weight loss myths that we need to UNALIVE.  Yes, we need this myth to disappear because it is holding you back! So let's bust these once and for all so you can focus on what actually works and finally build the body you want.  What I discuss: Fat loss is NOT about eating as little as possible and working out more. A small, sustainable calorie deficit works better than an extreme cut. our workouts stay the same—3-5 strength training sessions per week is all you need. You should NEVER live in fat loss mode. Cycle in and out for long-term results. 8 Awards You're Chasing That Don't Actually Exist

Okay, let's talk about those “awards” we're chasing—the ones that don't exist but somehow control so much of what we do, how we feel, and how we show up in life. Let me give you a few examples. Ever caught yourself secretly competing for the: “No mistakes were made” award? Or the “Most beautiful” award? How about “Skinniest”? “Lived up to all expectations”? “Never said no”? “Never asked for help”? Oh, and let's not forget the big one: “Liked by everyone.” And last but not least, the “Didn't need rest” award. Are you cringing yet? Because SAME. The crazy part is, none of these awards are real. Literally none of these exist. No one is handing us trophies for being exhausted, perfect, or never making mistakes – but still, we're running ourselves into the ground trying to win them. So, today, we're unpacking why we're chasing these invisible awards, how they're stealing our joy, and what we can do to let go of the pressure and just be. Hey, Mama! First of all, let me say this: you are incredible. Your body just created a whole human being! Whether it's your first baby or your fourth, you're in a season of big changes—physically, emotionally, and mentally.   And while it might feel tempting to dive into the whole “bounce back” culture, I'm here to remind you that your body deserves so much more than that. This is your time to heal, replenish, and thrive. So let's talk about how you can use nutrition to feel your best during this postpartum chapter!   What I discuss:  Don't even think about dieting.  Also, don't put pressure on yourself to count your macros Use this time of life to eat intuitively — your body needs a lot so don't hold back from giving it what it's asking for.  If you do count one macro, let it be protein. Try to build all your means around protein, aiming to get 20-30g per meal to keep you more energized and satiated.  After protein, fill your diet with lots of health fats and fiber.  Make sure you're incorporating iron and vitamin-c rich foods into your daily food intake.  HYDRATE.
