This episode is for you if January already has you feeling behind, tired, and overwhelmed by the pressure to change everything at once. Instead of pushing harder or trying to force motivation after the holidays, we talk about releasing the urgency that leads to burnout, so you can move forward in a way that supports your body, your energy, and your real life. We walk through five reasons why an anti-hustle January leads to more sustainable progress, along with grounded truths to hold onto as you reset your expectations. This is about building stability before intensity, stacking small wins, and choosing habits you can actually repeat long after January is over. Here is what you will learn: • Why January pressure is artificial and why your body needs stability first • How hustle culture sneaks into fitness and health goals and leads to burnout • What progress without burnout actually looks like in this season • Why energy is a better metric than weight or performance right now • How resetting expectations after the holidays builds consistency and trust • What sustainable progress feels like when your plan supports real life If this conversation encouraged you as you head into January, you may also enjoy: Episode 384: Starting Now vs. Starting January 1st If you want more from me, be sure to check out… Follow me on Instagram: @juliealedbetter | @embraceyourreal | @movementwithjulie Movement With Julie | App: https://sale.movementwithjulie.com/ Macro Counting Made Simple Online Academy: https://www.macrocountingmadesimple.com/ Website: www.juliealedbetter.com

He started as a road runner, lots of miles in high school and beyond, but during the pandemic, while living in San Francisco, he began exploring trails in the Marin Headlands and hills around Pacifica. That slow, natural shift eventually led him into mountain running and “DIY ultras” solo, self‑supported runs of 30–40 miles, all on his own terms. What makes Malcolm stand out isn't just distance or pace, but the way he mixes movement with creativity. Outside of running, he climbs, skis, scrambles, shoots photography (both professionally and for fun), writes poems and musings. He calls it living. He also quietly gives back to the community: providing gear and support to fellow runners, like when he ran a T-shirt sale to help fund race entries for another runner, proof that support doesn't always need spotlight.Malcolm is quietly building Can't Buy Cool Studios, weaving together art, running, identity, and community.Motivational HighlightsEmbrace adventure on your own terms — solo ultras don't have to be for trophies, they can be for the soul.Running can be part of a creative life — movement, art, writing, identity — all deeply connected.Quiet generosity matters: supporting others in small ways helps build a stronger, more inclusive community.Balance is messy but possible: holding down a full-time job, a creative process, and still getting out for the run.Links & ResourcesIG: @cantbuycoolstudiosWebsite: https://cantbuycoolstudios.com/Partner Links: Janji - Janji.comA big shoutout to our sponsor, Janji! Text a question to Victoria!“Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you deserve success just because you want it. Yes, you have to want it, but that is what's going to drive the work that's going to get you the thing that you want.” –Victoria Marcouillier Wanting success isn't the same thing as working hard for it and that's where so many entrepreneurs get tripped up. This episode may ruffle some feathers, but Victoria is challenging the rise of the anti-hustle movement and reminds you that perseverance, discipline, and resilience are what actually build lasting businesses.Unpack why today's “manifest it” message can leave you discouraged, and how embracing a season of hustle can prepare you for the freedom and flexibility you dream about. Victoria also shares the truth most people don't want to hear: business will feel hard sometimes, and that's not a sign you're failing; it's a sign you're growing. If you've been wrestling with whether you're pushing too hard or not doing enough, this conversation will reframe the way you see your work. In this episode, I'm dismantling the biggest myth therapists believe about creating online programs — that building one will just add more hustle and burnout to your already overwhelming life. We're no longer in the early days when therapists could assume that more hours worked equals more value delivered. Today's most successful therapist-entrepreneurs are rejecting hustle culture entirely and building programs that actually give them energy instead of draining it. What's winning? Programs designed around your natural strengths and energy patterns, not cookie-cutter templates.I'm breaking down why your therapy training is sabotaging your program design, the three biggest myths keeping you stuck in overwhelm, and how to build something sustainable that you'll actually enjoy running. You'll walk away with a completely new framework for thinking about programs — one that honours your need for flow, freedom, and sustainability.HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:Your therapy conditioning is working against you – We've been trained to equate exhaustion with worth, so we unconsciously design programs that recreate the same burnout patterns we're trying to escape from private practice.Smaller, focused programs create more impact – Your students don't need everything you know. They need the right transformation delivered in a way that's sustainable for both you and them to complete successfully.Tools and pre-recording aren't shortcuts — they're smart strategy – Using AI for content creation, automation for admin tasks, and pre-recorded lessons for consistency frees up your energy for the high-value connection work you actually love.RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:You don't need to figure out your online program alone while juggling a full caseload.Join me for the From Couch to Course Bootcamp this September 23-26. For just $37, I'll walk you through exactly how to map, price, and structure your first ethical online program using evidence-based frameworks your clinical training will actually recognise. In four focused days, you'll move from "someday I'll figure this out" to having a clear, compliant roadmap — or get enough clarity to know this isn't your next step. This isn't a future-of-work episode. It's a how-to-work-differently episode.Paul Shirley returns for his third appearance on the show—and this time, we go deep. We're talking focus, structure, guilt, failure, personal infrastructure, and why GenX escapees need systems more than strategies. If you've ever felt like: • You “should be able to do more” but can't quite get there… • You've got time now, but not the energy or structure to use it… • You miss having a rhythm but hate the idea of being back in a box…Then this episode is your reset. What we cover: • How Paul's focus system helped me become 100x more effective • Why 15 minutes of deep work beats 2 hours of chaos • The science (and myth) behind your tired brain • Guilt, failure, and why most productivity advice is toxic • How rituals become your “Turbo button” for meaningful work • The connection between food, flow, and freedom • How to plan your days so you don't burn out—or break downThis one isn't about getting more done. It's about getting the right things done—and feeling good doing it.⸻

As fantasy writers, they immediately hit it off through beta reading each other's work, which evolved into critique partnering, and then a mutual fascination with writing craft. They became obsessed with learning a) how stories worked, and b) how writers' mindsets could help or harm their progress. Together they dove head first into book coaching and editing training, which ultimately resulted in Golden May. Please welcome Rachel and Emily. Value is based in what you produce = hustle culture Pitfalls of hunger to create and make an impact on world. Make money, make a lot, make it fast Sustainable success comes from the opposite place Mindset is more important, untangle perfectionism and hustle culture Generational/societal = capitalism ranked over all; "You are only valuable and worthy if you make money." You can't rest because ... If you do more, you make more money. We aren't machines. Burnout. Less effective. Care for yourself so you CAN work. Mindset breeds shame is what drives the hustle culture . Anti-hustle is about separating mindset from the "norm." What did you do to separate and feel worthy? 1. Come down to earth: what are the stakes? Writing is not life/death situation. If I don't ..., then I'm not worthy and I'm gonna die. (Start reframe it) 2. Awareness. Hustle culture. Learn the opposite. (Amy McNee - We Need Your Art) Ask where these thoughts are coming from? Follow the threads. Reparenting inner child. Catch the thoughts in the moment. What's my programming? 1st thought: programming, 2nd thought: what I really believe. Talking to coworkers and family about "letting them down." 3. Join a community interested in anti-hustle. Reframe daily. 4. Devon Price "Laziness Does Not Exist", "Burnout" (Nagaski sisters) 5. Affirmations 6. What is your brain trying to tell you? Rest is a learned thing. The Power of Ritual (Casper ter Kuile) We all rest differently. The tenants of anti-hustle culture: Worth is not tied to our output. Your success isn't determined by someone else's standards. Body and Brain deserve rest. "I don't have time to learn how to rest." With a new year around the corner, it's time to rethink how we approach productivity. Could managing your energy—not your time—be the secret to unlocking major breakthroughs in your business and health? In today's case study, you'll hear how Amina AlTai leveraged her energy cycles to transform her business and health. Initially driven by necessity following a brain injury and autoimmune challenges, Amina developed a productivity framework that aligned her work schedule with her body's natural rhythms. Within a year, her income doubled from $220K to over $500K. She also created the mental space and energy to write a book that sold within a week of being shopped out in a lucrative pre-empt deal with a publisher. Her anti-hustle approach set her apart in the market, proving that success doesn't have to come at the cost of well-being. If you're looking for a sustainable way to grow your business while protecting your health, this conversation is the perfect way to kickstart your year. The push to work faster, harder, and longer leads to exhaustion, frustration, and a sense of failure when life doesn't go according to plan. For years, we've been sold the idea that hustle = success. When scaling your business have you ever wondered what it really takes? I believe scaling needs to start happening early on in business. Some people would say you don't need to learn about scaling until you've hit capacity as a solopreneur. I would say that scaling really starts when you begin managing multiple clients simultaneously. This is about creating capacity for yourself so that when you're serving even just one or two clients at the start, you will actually be able to present and serve to the best of your ability. This week we are interviewing the scaling expert @kara.renninger_. She is a Growth & Scaling Advisor

Many of us constantly struggle to balance self-acceptance and self-improvement in a world flooded with body standards, diet culture, and societal pressures. The battle between body positivity and the idea of hustling for a better version of ourselves can be a sensitive and complex one. Today's episode is an invitation to Kristen's journey and how you might be thinking about these two philosophies. Let's look at a few highlights: Kristen shares how the endless chase for an ideal body meant she often neglected her actual health needs. The insidious diet culture had her trapped in a cycle of self-loathing. She was led to believe that loving yourself meant staying stagnant, and any desire to change was an act of self-hate. Body positivity is not a free pass to neglect one's health. Anti-hustle is not an escape from hard work. Acknowledging that just because something feels uncomfortable doesn't mean it's hustle, and we can't walk away. In any endeavor, if you want to build something sustainable, you will have to work hard. Balancing these philosophies means recognizing that we can treasure our bodies and self-worth while striving for improvement. It's a journey of discovering that loving oneself should never be an excuse for complacency. That hard work is often the path to a healthier, happier, more authentic life. So, let's look at our habits, address the areas where we've made excuses, and make the changes necessary to achieve actual, sustainable results.
