Let's be honest: most of you are out here doing WAY too much of what doesn't matter - especially when it comes to fitness. You're consuming alllll the content, chasing new & shiny workouts, and trying to “fix” the weekend by starting over every freaking Monday. You're obsessing over fat burners and the “perfect” macros, but honestly, where the hell is it REALLY getting you?! Here's the deal - more isn't better. Doing “more” will only lead you to burnout, paralysis, and like you're never enough. Better means focusing on what *actually* moves the needle: progressive strength training, walking daily, hitting your protein, managing stress, and creating routines that fit YOUR actual life. I knooow this isn't sexy or flashy, but this is what WORKS.You don't need more noise. You need clarity, simplicity, and you need to get laser-focused on doing the stuff that truly MATTERS on your fitness journey. Figuring this out can be a game-changer for you this summer, AND for the long-term!!In this episode, we cover:Why doing MORE isn't always better + what to focus on insteadThe common trap that keeps many of us “stuck” in overwhelmWhat doesn't actually move the needle on your fitness journeyHabits & routines that DO make a difference on your fitness journeyHow to audit your OWN fitness routine so you can simplify & get resultsLinks/Resources:Join IT GIRL Community Membership Join FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymPRIVATE COACHING is my 1:1 program (choose 3 or 6 month option)Connect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcast so we can keep this conversation going-be sure to tag me in your posts and stories!Join my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! Welcome back to another episode! This week's episode of Bikinis After Babies is full of updates!! Gillian is back from Denver Colorado after competing in her first IFBB Bikini Pro show, the Mile High Pro, and Mandy has also returned from Colorado where she underwent a very successful egg retrieval procedure! Gillian reflects on her experience at her first pro show and how it differed from prior show experiences as an NPC amateur. She details some of the travel challenges, food prep hacks while away from home, show day details, judge feedback and the emotional toll of competition. Mandy shares the updates in her IVF journey and the challenges she has experienced both physically and mentally! We talk about the vast difference in our lives this year versus last year but how the complexities that exist in both IVF and bodybuilding are challenging and the highs and lows of both are quite comparable- we are so lucky to have each other and our amazingly supportive audience who supports us through all phases of our lives! We also touch on the impact of the pressure and expectation in the sport of bodybuilding and how this can affect both mental health and the backstage dynamic can be intense! While its common to make long lasting connections at shows and a sense of camaraderie exists among athletes, the pressures and expectations that come with competing at higher levels can cause a tense backstage environment. We share some strategies for dealing with this and overall it's important to enjoy competition day- you've worked hard for it…go out there and have FUN!!We hope that you enjoyed this episode, and if so, we would LOVE it if you would rate, subscribe, and leave us reviews on how this podcast has helped you

Send us a textOkay, my friend, buckle up because today's episode is all about what happens AFTER you decide you want to get healthy AF... But before you quietly disappear off the face of the Earth and land back in your old habits for the 327th time. Yes, it's that dreaded middle ground—the hardest part!—when motivation tanks, life starts “life-ing,” and the wine is seriously CALLING your name.If you've ever been crushing it and then suddenly just... stopped (and then felt like a garbage human about it), this episode is for you. I'm breaking down what's really happening in those “eff it” moments—not just the surface-level stuff like “I was tired,” but the deeper sneaky saboteurs: perfectionism, shame, and those bullshit stories we tell ourselves like “I always screw this up” or “What's the point?”We're getting honest about our comfort zone “stories,” the classic bullshit scripts we use to stay where we are, and the real, SCIENCEY reason why your peer group may be secretly sabotaging—or supercharging—your results. Spoiler: This is NOT about willpower. It's about outwitting your own brain, and I'm serving you the roadmap in the most Oonagh way: brash, supportive, and a little bit sassy. If you're tired of being the world's most enthusiastic starter (and quickest quitter), this episode just might be your bulletproof vest for the next time you hear that little voice in your head whining, “Oh, fuck it.”What's Inside:The surprising reason we self-sabotage right when things are going wellHow to recognize when you're about to hit The Fuckits—and what to do insteadThe science (and sass) behind why motivation isn't enoughOne simple question to ask before you quit on yourself againSo if you're tired of starting over—or maybe you're mid-spiral and need someone to gently (but also loudly) yell, “GET BACK UP, DUDE!”—I got you. This is the reminder you didn't know you needed. Let's end the quit-panic loop and start showing up like the badass you are. I'm breaking down the TRUE essentials of eating well in today's world, with a no-fluff, practical approach rooted in both science and real-life results. We'll also cover the best ways to enjoy fruit without blood sugar crashes, how to optimize your omega-3 intake for hormone support, and why natural salt is not the enemy despite what old-school advice might say. This is not a restrictive food list or trendy diet. It's a framework to help you eat in a way that actually supports your body long-term. Why is it that so many high-performing women, those who train hard, eat clean, and juggle intense work and family lives, still feel puffy, stuck, and exhausted no matter how “healthy” they are? In this episode, we unpack a surprising hormonal pattern hiding beneath the surface: your body might be actively shutting down the very system you rely on for energy and fat loss. Through a powerful client case study, a runner, mom, and executive who couldn't figure out why her fat loss stalled, we dive into the hidden role of cortisol and cortisone. Her labs revealed flatlined cortisol and elevated cortisone, a red flag of chronic stress adaptation. This wasn't just mental overwhelm: her biology had hit the brakes. We break down how this protective mechanism, like a hormonal dimmer switch, turns off your body's ability to burn fat, regulate blood sugar, and respond to stress. When your system favors cortisone over cortisol, you enter a kind of metabolic “freeze,” where motivation, energy, and even hormones like estrogen and progesterone take a nosedive. You'll learn why this client's symptoms such as stubborn belly fat, exhaustion, and poor recovery weren't a matter of willpower, but survival. We share the exact next steps she took: from pulling back on cardio to rebuilding adrenal function and strength. If you're a high-achieving woman wondering why nothing seems to work anymore, this episode could be your lightbulb moment. What do the stubborn body fat you can't seem to lose, your hormones, and metabolic health all have in common? Well…a lot! If you're nearing perimenopause or menopause, you can't miss this conversation. In this episode, host Jenn Trepeck dives into a candid and clarifying conversation with leading health and wellness expert Ashley Fillmore. Ashley is the founder and president of Metabolic Fix and host of the Cheers to Your Success podcast. With nearly 20 years of experience, she helps women heal their metabolism, achieve hormone balance, and support lasting body composition changes. Together, they unpack why so many women still feel lost in the noise of wellness advice and how to make sense of what they're experiencing day-to-day, at each phase of their cycle and even as their cycles change.. This episode is all about discovering your hormone balance, transforming your body composition, and redefining what true health looks and feels like. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, who discusses wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.IN THIS EPISODE: (05:36) Ashley Filmore explains how she made the health, hormone balance, and body composition space her life's work(09:01) Ashley shares her experience with unhealthy dieting and deprivation(14:28) The number on the scale versus body composition, muscle mass, body fat percentage, and lean muscle(18:39) How certain hormones and body fat distribution correlate, and the importance of tracking your cycle(28:55) Ashley discusses symptoms that may indicate hormone imbalance(35:56) Adjustments to fitness routines and nutrition during your cycle(43:39) Other reasons your hormones can be depletedKEY TAKEAWAYS:The scale doesn't define health, but body composition does: A lower number on the scale doesn't accurately reflect your physical or mental well-being. Proper health is better measured by the balance between lean muscle mass and body fat percentage, which is significantly influenced by hormones that also determine where fat is stored—for example, cortisol can be associated with belly fat, insulin has been linked to love handles, and estrogen is often associated with weight stored in the hips and the lower belly.Where fat accumulates on your body can reveal significant hormonal imbalances, guiding lifestyle and nutritional changes as well as potential hormonal imbalances. Plus, even with a calorie deficit and strength training, stubborn fat won't budge unless you focus on nutrient-dense, whole foods—because it's not just about calories, but the quality of what you eat.Using cycle-tracking apps or devices like the Oura Ring helps women understand their hormonal rhythms, especially as cycles become irregular during perimenopause. By listening to your body, tracking symptoms, and identifying hormonal imbalances, you can tailor your nutrition, exercise, and recovery strategies to align with your current hormonal state, optimizing energy, mood, metabolism, and overall health.Walking and strength training are effective, low-stress ways to support hormonal and metabolic health, especially during perimenopause and menopause. Walking is a free, accessible exercise that improves body composition, hormonal balance, and mental well-being, while intense workouts may be too stressful when hormone levels are low. Incorporating gentle movements, such as yoga, and traditional strength training with compound exercises 2–3 times per week can help maintain health without overexertion.QUOTES: (25:34) “Get to know your body and your baseline, what's normal for you, as opposed to what your doctor might say is normal or common.” - Jenn Trepeck(16:57) “Your hormones matter. It's impacting everything: muscle mass, your body fat percentage and where your body fat is distributed on your body.” Ashley Fillmore(41:55) “Pay attention to how you feel because you may not be textbook, you may be a little outside of what I just mentioned, and that could be normal for you.” Ashley Fillmore(42:48) "The walking, the yoga, the more gentle exercises are probably going to be more effective and feel better when we're in that perimenopause or menopause phase.” - Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramCheers to Your Success! If you're struggling with acne, breakouts, or dull skin, this episode is for you. In the functional health world, we see skin issues not as isolated surface problems but as signs of deeper internal imbalances. I'll walk you through the five core systems I assess when working with clients dealing with chronic acne. From gut health to hormones, blood sugar, liver detox, and nervous system regulation. You'll learn how issues like leaky gut, hormonal imbalances, or poor liver detox can manifest as inflammation on your skin. I also dive into the role of insulin resistance, stress, and environmental toxins in making things worse. Instead of quick-fix treatments, we focus on targeted strategies like comprehensive stool and hormone testing, food and supplement protocols, and lifestyle shifts that actually address the root cause. I'll also share what I look for in test results, what symptoms matter most and what you can start doing now to support clearer skin from the inside out. Whether your breakouts are linked to PMS, stress, or digestive issues, you'll leave this episode with clarity and next steps. This week, we did something I've never talked about publicly before: a 72-hour water fast! But before you picture weight loss gimmicks or punishment, let's set the record straight: this was a functional health experiment rooted in curiosity, not restriction. Inspired by Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz, I timed this fast with my Power Phase (Days 1–10 of my cycle) to align with rising estrogen and maximize the benefits. In this episode, I walk you through the “why” behind this advanced strategy—deep cellular cleanup, gut healing, immune support, and a major mental clarity reset. We'll unpack the science of what happens at different fasting milestones and why this isn't something I recommend as a starter strategy for clients. You'll also learn how women should approach fasting differently than men, especially in relation to their cycles and hormone resilience. I'll share how I prepped, what I experienced physically and emotionally, and what this fast revealed about my relationship with hunger, discipline, and intuition. Spoiler: this wasn't easy, but it was powerful. Whether or not a long fast is right for you, my goal is to encourage deeper body awareness and smarter strategies; not extremes. Tune in to hear what surprised me most, how this ties into hormone health, and why syncing with your cycle might be the missing piece. If you've ever felt confused about fasting, this episode will help you reframe it entirely. DM me your questions or share this episode with a friend who needs a fresh take on fasting. What happens when life throws you a curveball so devastating it brings you to your knees? For Amber Lynne, a former LA County Sheriff's Department custody assistant of 17 years, that moment came in the form of a panic attack while trying to navigate her son's challenges. Feeling like she couldn't breathe and couldn't control anything, this wake-up call became the catalyst for a remarkable transformation.During our conversation, Amber takes us through her journey from that bathroom floor to the competitive bodybuilding stage. After a year of neglecting her wellbeing while focusing entirely on her son's needs, she found herself 30 pounds heavier and emotionally exhausted. The turning point came when she discovered A2F (Addicted to Fitness), a gym where she immediately felt at home. Under the guidance of owners Mark and Arlene, Amber not only reclaimed her physical health but rediscovered her sense of purpose and identity. What makes Amber's story so compelling is how she balances the intensity of competition prep with family life. As the wife of a sheriff's deputy and mother to a child with special needs, she's mastered the art of daily five-minute meditation, meal prep discipline, and maintaining a positive mindset despite challenges. Her philosophy that "you get what you give in life" has served her well both in law enforcement and on the fitness stage, where she placed second in her categories during her very first competition.Whether you're struggling with mental health, looking to make a fitness transformation, or simply need inspiration to overcome life's obstacles, Amber's practical wisdom offers a roadmap. She debunks common fitness myths, shares how to approach gym intimidation, and reveals the mindset shifts that helped her find peace with herself at 40. Ready to reset your life? Amber's journey proves it's never too late to become the strongest version of yourself—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

What if improving your gut health didn't require expensive supplements, fancy tests, or endless trial and error? In today's episode, we dive into the often-overlooked lifestyle foundations that can significantly improve digestion, reduce bloating, and help you finally feel good after meals without needing a single lab result. We start with meal hygiene: how you eat is just as important as what you eat. Digestion begins in the brain, and simple changes like slowing down, turning off distractions, and chewing thoroughly can kickstart your gut's natural processes. You'll learn how stress and multitasking at meals divert blood flow away from the gut and how to set the stage for digestion by being present, cooking your own food, and even doing a quick breathing exercise. Next, we cover meal timing, and how aligning your eating habits with your body's natural rhythms can support the "housekeeping" system of your gut. You'll learn how a consistent eating schedule and small shifts like starting your day with warm lemon water can make a big impact. We also tackle what to eat specifically for constipation and diarrhea. From fiber types and fluid intake to soothing herbal teas and smart food swaps, you'll walk away with real strategies that work. Plus, we share our go-to cheat sheets for stool consistency and explain when it is time to use supplements or run labs. Even if supplements become part of your long-term plan (like they are for some of our clients), these lifestyle shifts are the groundwork for sustainable gut health. Listen in and take the first step toward better digestion naturally. Is the "just be consistent" advice getting old? By now, you've heard this advice at least a million times—from entrepreneurs, athletes, experts, coaches, and even humble newsletter writers. And they're all absolutely right. Consistency is the difference maker. The one common thread behind every major success story. But here's the problem: No one ever tells you how to be consistent—and let's be honest, it's easier said than done. Life gets chaotic. Motivation fades. Discipline wavers. Consistency breaks. In this episode, we are going to cover 7 practical strategies for staying consistent that aren't just a pass/fail perspective and actually make sense for pursuing the goals we want in our lives.
