Exploring Washington: Autumn Photography, Iconic Landscapes, and Life on a Boat Washington State is a photographer's paradise, offering a rich diversity of landscapes—from the North Cascades to the waters of Puget Sound. Photographer Lisa Mize captures this beauty while living full-time on a boat. In a recent Exploring Washington State Podcast episode, Lisa shared her photography journey and unique lifestyle. From Film to Digital Lisa's passion for photography began with family photos during the "film days," capturing memories of her children. As she started hiking Washington's trails, her focus shifted to landscapes. She transitioned from film to digital with a Pentax camera, later embracing Nikon's mirrorless cameras for their efficiency and advanced features. Despite her professional gear, Lisa often uses her iPhone, saying, "The camera you have with you is better than no camera." Capturing Autumn in Washington Autumn is Lisa's favorite season for photography, and her work has been featured on Explore Washington State. Lisa captures stunning fall road trip scenes from Mount Baker's Artist Point to the North Cascades Highway. One standout shot is of a Japanese maple tree at Kubota Garden, a photo that has captivated her audience. Her secret? Patience, persistence, and finding the right light. Sharing Knowledge Lisa is passionate about teaching others, offering workshops that take photographers to some of Washington's most scenic spots. Her workshops focus on helping participants find their unique compositions. She emphasizes that great shots take time and practice. Only two out of 30 photos of the Kubota Garden tree stood out as exceptional. Her advice for beginners: Don't be discouraged by the numbers. Life on a Boat Lisa has lived on a 42-foot powerboat in Puget Sound for the past four years. While boat life presents challenges like cold winters and small hot water tanks, the breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains and sunsets make it worthwhile. Lisa cherishes her lifestyle, which complements her passion for capturing Washington's natural beauty. Looking Forward As Lisa continues to explore and photograph Washington's landscapes, she remains dedicated to sharing her experiences through her workshops and personal work. Her advice? "Just go and see." Whether you're an aspiring photographer or a seasoned traveler, Washington's beauty awaits you. With her camera and adventurous spirit, Lisa reminds us to appreciate the beauty around us—whether on a hike through the Cascades or from the deck of a boat in Puget Sound. Connect With Us

We can't wait to runcation with you soon! RUN, EAT, and DRINK on a Dopey Challenge Runcation at Walt Disney World with Dawn Broussard! It's an episode perfect for your long run! In this episode, we talk with a member of the “Runcation Nation” and patron of our show, Dawn Broussard. She talks about completing the Dopey Challenge with her daughter this past year. Of course after completing a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and her first-ever marathon in the SAME weekend, she had to explore, indulge, and celebrate this big accomplishment. She selected Artist Point, a character dining experience at Wilderness Lodge. Which characters, you ask? Snow White, Grumpy, and of course, Dopey! Photo opp is included! This meal features tasty shared appetizers, individual entrees, and shared desserts along with a non-alcoholic beverage included in the price of the dinner. The biggest stars of the meal had to be the slow-braised pork shank and the Enchanted Apple martini that Dawn talked about with us. Yummy! We want to check out the Miner's Treasure cookies and cream dessert, too! It all sounds very tempting, very much like the poison apple that Snow White was tempted with in the fairytale. There are food options for the kids and themed drinks without alcohol, too, if you are still hydrating after your race, like the Transformation Potion and Wishing Apple Punch. It sounds like this meal has something for everyone! Some of Walt Disney World's best restaurant experiences are within her resorts, and the deluxe resorts are the focal point of that kind of dining, epicurean adventure. We visit two such restaurants. First we check out Narcoose's for dinner with John and Lori Scali at Disney's Grand Floridian Restaurant. Then my wife and I enjoy an evening at Artist Point for a character meal with Snow White, Dopey, Grumpy and the Wicked Queen, along with friends Mark and Melanie Esty. We look at those restaurants, how they came to be, and how solid the culinary experience is at both. These are high-priced dining experiences. Would you want to spend not only your money, but your vacation time checking out either of these restaurant? Join us as we provide dining reviews at Narcoose's and Artist Point. On Tour 99, Magical Matthew and Tour Guide Diane Whiting compare Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort with Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort. And, while there are many similarities, there are also some significant differences to consider. 1. Theme: The Wilderness Lodge is inspired by the National Park lodges of the Pacific Northwest, while the Animal Kingdom Lodge is inspired by African wildlife preserves. 2. Location: The Wilderness Lodge is situated in the Magic Kingdom area, while the Animal Kingdom Lodge is located near the Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. 3. Room Views: While both resorts offer beautiful views, the Animal Kingdom Lodge has savannah-facing rooms where guests can observe grazing wildlife. The Wilderness Lodge, on the other hand, offers views of the resort's natural surroundings, such as the Copper Creek Springs Pool or the forests of the Pacific Northwest. 4. Dining options: The Animal Kingdom Lodge has more dining options with its signature restaurant, Jiko - The Cooking Place, offering African-inspired cuisine, as well as Boma - Flavors of Africa, and Sanaa. The Wilderness Lodge has fewer dining options with its signature restaurant, Artist Point, offering Pacific Northwest-inspired cuisine. 5. Amenities: Both resorts offer numerous amenities, including pools, fitness centers, and complimentary transportation to the Disney parks. However, the Animal Kingdom Lodge also has cultural activities such as drum circles, and animal programs including the Wildlife Discovery Excursion, while the Wilderness Lodge offers outdoor activities such as fishing, bike rentals, and campfires --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matthew-wallace9/message
Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to get out and active during the winter, especially for those who don't ski or snowboard regularly. For co-host Vickie Connor, the activity seemed like the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in the winter, especially as someone who is wary of knee injuries, after an ACL tear years ago. On this week's episode of Peak Northwest, Vickie chats with co-host Jamie Hale about her first snowshoeing experience on Mt. Baker, as well as the rest of her roadtrip there. Here are some highlights from this week's show: Vickie talks about snowshoe rentals and logistics. Bellingham is a great roadtrip stopping point if you're driving from Portland or Seattle. Upper Lodge to Artist Point trail near Mt. Baker Ski Area is a great introductory, yet heart-pumping trail for first-timers. Where to eat and stay around Mt. Baker. For the first time in DVC history, most fall travel dates require more points than summer travel dates. The other travel periods remain fairly static. The 2023 changes only affect Disney Vacation Club Resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. They do not impact Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, Ko Olina, Hawaiʻi. These point charts remain unchanged. The 2022 and 2023 Grand Floridian charts now show a new point category for “Resort Studio” rooms, with 3 views: standard, lake, and theme park. The "Resort Studio" rooms are the upcoming DVC expansion rooms in the Big Pine Key building. The Standard and Lake categories remain the same as the current Grand Floridian DVC studios, but the Theme Park view sets a new record for most expensive DVC studio. Renee Roaming (or, Renee Hahnel to anyone outside the internet) has travelled to nearly 40 countries across 5 continents. She left speech therapy and took her photography to a full time level in 2016, alongside her husband Matthew. Together, they make a force to be reckoned with and Renee's hard graft, organisation, positivity and engagement with all of you lead her to continued success after success. With a massively eclectic collection of locations from Alberta to the Dolomites, New Zealand to Kenya, the US National Parks to Peru, and more, Renee is able to give first hand and valuable experience of these places from her stunning photography, brilliant blogs and adventurous tales! Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and all other platforms; just search “Between The Mountains”, Ask Alexa, or read on below. Falling In Love With America Just for the moment, let's put Renee's fantastic travel experience to one side. We'll come back to it, I promise. Renee is Australian and grew up there. We talk fondly of her times spent growing up near Melbourne. Soon enough, Renee won the Green Card 'lottery'. She and Matthew backed their bags, and headed out. When they first moved to the US, Renee and her husband Matthew wanted to be by mountains - and who can blame them? So, they moved to Colorado. The Colorado mountain ranges are amazing with hiking and life opportunities everywhere. But after completing this step in life, they decided to look elsewhere. After reaching out further, they fell in love with Washington. The Pacific North West offers mountains, but forests and ocean too, and that really pulled them in - with similarities close to Australia (on paper!). Having places like Artist Point, Olympic National Park, and Mount Rainier National Park on your doorstep creates such fantastic levels of inspiration, and content too! These are some pretty diverse and unique places - and feature on nearly everyone's travel bucket list. Listen to the podcast to hear Renee's thoughts on Colorado, Washington, Seattle, and Melbourne. We even talk about roadtrip songs. Renee has a 24 hour+ playlist on Spotify, and we chat about the songs that played on her childhood roadtrips too. Perfectly Placed After comparing Melbourne to her new home of Seattle, I ask her the obvious question: "How much did Mount Rainier influence your decision to move to Seattle?". Now obviously, this isn't the only reason. But, the mountains are a source of inspiration for millions of people. With a background like Renee's, I can only imagine how wonderful it must be to live in Washington, in the progressive city of Seattle, surrounded by some of the best nature on this planet. All About Travel, Adventure And Photography Throughout the whole podcast we discuss everything travel. We talk about balancing photography and living in the moment. We talk about tapping into your creative side, and adventures in Alaska. Renee isn't just a Washington-based photographer. Her experience for her career and herself comes from across the globe. From French Polynesia, to New Zealand, to Kenya and more, Renee has grown to have such a fascinating view on life, travel, and photography. After discussing backpacking in South America, adventures in Australia, exploring America, and more, we discuss one moment that Renee would love to relive. Roaming America One of the biggest projects that Renee undertook with her husband Matthew was visiting all of the 59 (at the time) US National Parks. Mostly living the Van Life the whole way through, they performed this project for their client in one go. We discuss in the podcast some of the behind the scenes. From Type 2 fun, to discussing typical days, and more. Hear Renee discuss some of the hard work that went into this brilliant project. Days on this project looked like either driving for 9+ hours between National Parks, or waking before sunrises and hiking and photographing until after sunset; which is hard work when you think about it! From this trip, they created a coffee-table book featuring photography from all of the National Parks, anecdotes, suggested itineraries, best hikes, and key facts. I have the book myself and it really is so inspiring and high quality. Check it out here, or search for it on Amazon. Renee Roaming Interviewing Renee really was an absolute pleasure. Renee has such a fantastic view on travel, hard-work, and getting outdoors. From photography tips to itineraries to backcountry camping, to her book ‘Roaming America’, Renee consistently aims to deliver value to her audience - and it really does show! Make sure you listen to the podcast, and check out her blogs and content which is truly A-Class material. In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode.....PRODUCTION Point #1: Before & After Photos When taking before & after photos, the goal is to deliver good work to the clients and to keep realistic expectations. If you’re going to do any kind of editing, just make sure it represents your work and what you can fulfill and deliver...and what it actually looks like in person. Ani: When you edit a client’s face, it’s not because you think they’re ugly or they don’t look good enough; it's a way to make them feel better. It’s not to take away from who they are or their natural beauty, it's to make them feel comfortable with having their photo taken. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] How have you mastered the art of the Before and After photo? Point #2: Why Are You Editing? Ani: Some people use the editing app to correct the mistakes they have made while doing someone’s hair. We’re editing to get capture the look on film that we're seeing in person. Lighting is hard, taking pictures is really hard, and depending on the time of day, the lighting can change. Danielle: Nobody knows how good you are unless you show them. Part of the process of marketing is getting really good at taking photos so you can show your work to others and have it look as good as it does in person. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] How are your photo-taking and editing skills? Point #3: Feedback Danielle: You have to give yourself honest feedback, and you can’t blame everything that doesn’t look good in the photo on the lighting. If you are able to give yourself honest feedback, you will become a better artist. Stop judging everybody else’s work and wondering if they’re filtering or not filtering it. Just constantly rate your own work and ask yourself, "How can I learn and grow as an artist?" As you give yourself feedback, be sure to put it in the client’s notes. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] How has giving yourself honest feedback made you a better Artist? Point #4: Showcasing Your Work Ani: As hairstylists, we post our work which can be both good AND bad. When posting work you can tell what looks legit as opposed to what has been filtered 15 times. Danielle: As you showcase your work, great lighting is a must. The better the lighting you have, the less editing you'll have to do because it actually does represent your work. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] Do you tend to use too many filters in your photos? Point #5: Keeping It Real Ani: If you’re going to smoothe someone’s face, they shouldn’t actually look blurry. When I look at a photo and the face is all blurry, I know it's been filtered way too much and it doesn't look right. Danielle: Don’t take away all the lines. If the face is too over-edited then people assume the hair is over-edited as well. In my experience, if you have good lighting, the skin looks better. The point being, the more you learn how to use lighting, the less editing you’ll have to do and the more it will represent your work. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] Do you tend to blur the lines too much or do you keep it real? Quote of the Week: “If I have a situation in business where shit goes sideways, I have to remind myself that I created the circumstances for this to happen, so it's up to me to learn from it, grow from it, and then move on. Yes, that fucking sucks so let’s figure out how we’re going to do it better next time." --Danielle K White "Remember, editing is fine if you’re doing it to represent how your work truly looked in person. If you’re using editing because you can’t get it right in the salon - meaning, you’re doing something wrong with the hair - you're not representing yourself well, you’re not representing your brand well, AND you're doing a disservice to future clients because you will not be able to provide to them what you’re showing." --Anianne Rivera

Top Things to Do Outside the Theme Parks at Disney World - WDW Opinion Ep. 43 I’m sure I sound like a broken record at this point but I’ll start this segment off by saying one of my favorite phrases. Disney World really is a World unto itself. There’s so much to do outside of the parks there even. Often our trips get bogged down running from one attraction to the next and we spend the majority of our time within the walls of one of the theme parks. But there’s so much to see, do and experience outside of the parks. Some you probably have heard of before while others might be a new experience for you. But either way, this segment is dedicated to all the best things to do around Disney property that don’t require theme park admission. Plus, we discuss new food items coming to Artist Point and Be Our Guest, we catch a first glimpse of the Epcot Skyliner Gondola Station and the newly re-imagined Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland and we start spreading some theme park rumors. Stories discussed in News to Opinion New Food Offerings coming to Artist Point and Be Our Guest Disney Releases Full Look at Renovated Sleeping Beauty Castle; Reopening May 24th at Disneyland Win a $50 Disney Gift Card For the Month of May, we’ll be running a little contest and one luckily winner will get a $50 Disney Gift Card to use in the parks, online or at your local Disney store. This week’s conversation turns to the all-important topic of marketing, namely editing and filtering Before and After photos. How much is too much? What about lighting? Should you even edit your photos? Danielle and Ani take on these questions and more in this week’s episode which will have you laughing one minute and taking serious notes the next. As always, they’re keeping it real with the Big Money Stylist Podcast. In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..POWER Point #1: Before and After Photos When taking Before and After photos, the goal is to deliver good work to the clients and to keep realistic expectations. If you’re going to do any kind of editing, just make sure it represents your work and what you can fulfill and deliver, and what it actually looks like in person. Ani: When you edit a client’s face, it’s not because you think they’re ugly or they don’t look good enough; it’s a way to make them feel better. It’s not to take away from who they are or their natural beauty, it’s to make them feel comfortable with having their photo taken. QUESTION How have you mastered the art of the Before and After photo? Point #2: Why Are You Editing? Ani: Some people use the editing app to correct the mistakes they have made while doing someone’s hair. We’re editing to get capture the look on film that we’re seeing in person. Lighting is hard, taking pictures is really hard, and depending on the time of day, the lighting can change. Danielle: Nobody knows how good you are unless you show them. Part of the process of marketing is getting really good at taking photos so you can show your work to others and have it look as good as it does in person. QUESTION How are your photo-taking and editing skills? Point #3: Feedback Danielle: You have to give yourself honest feedback, and you can’t blame everythingthat doesn’t look good in the photo on the lighting. If you are able to give yourself honest feedback, you will become a better artist. Stop judging everybody else’s work and wondering if they’re filtering or not filtering it. Just constantly rate your own work and ask yourself, “How can I learn and grow as an artist?” As you give yourself feedback, be sure to put it in the client’s notes. QUESTION How has giving yourself honest feedback made you a better Artist? Point #4: Showcasing Your Work Ani: As hairstylists, we post our work which can be both good AND bad. When posting work you can tell what looks legit as opposed to what has been filtered 15 times. Danielle: As you showcase your work, great lighting is a must. The better the lighting you have, the less editing you’ll have to do because it actually does represent your work. QUESTION Do you tend to use too many filters in your photos? Point #5: Keeping It Real Ani: If you’re going to smoothe someone’s face, they shouldn’t actually look blurry. When I look at a photo and the face is all blurry, I know it’s been filtered way too much and it doesn’t look right. Danielle: Don’t take away all the lines. If the face is too over-edited then people assume the hair is over edited as well. In my experience, if you have good lighting, the skin looks better. The point being, the more you learn how to use lighting, the less editing you’ll have to do and the more it will represent your work. QUESTION Do you tend to blur the lines too much or do you keep it real? Quote of the Week: “If I have a situation in business where shit goes sideways, I have to remind myself that I created the circumstances for this to happen, so it’s up to me to learn from it, grow from it, and then move on. Yes, that fucking sucks so let’s figure out how we’re going to do it better next time.” –Danielle K White “Remember, editing is fine if you’re doing it to represent how your work truly looked in person. If you’re using editing because you can’t get it right in the salon – meaning, you’re doing something wrong with the hair – you’re not representing yourself well, you’re not representing your brand well, AND you’re doing a disservice to future clients because you will not be able to provide to them what you’re showing.” –Anianne Rivera

The Best Disney World Resorts to visit When you have some extra time at Walt Disney World these are our top Disney World Resorts to visit. You don't have to stay at a Disney World Resort to enjoy it. Come lounge, window shop and enjoy a meal at these Disney World resorts. Our first Walt Disney World resort to see on your next vacation is Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. You can get a drink at Miznor's Lounge, or in the main lobby. The Grand Floridian has an amazing lobby and a grand staircase that are both perfect for a quick family photo. There are also several fantastic restaurants that allow you to enjoy the resort and grounds and make your visit more of an event. The Grand Floridian is also on the Disney World monorail so it is easy to get to from the Magic Kingdom. Our next Disney World resort is the Disney Boardwalk Inn. This Disney World resort is behind Epcot and a nice place to stroll in the evening around the lake on the boardwalk. There are restaurants, games, shops and places to grab an ice cream, or a slice of pizza. There are some boardwalk food stands too for a cheaper budget. There is also a fun themed bar - AbracadaBar which has a backstage magician theme. The next Disney World Resort to visit especially during Christmas time is Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Artist Point is an amazing restraunt and the lobby has this massive fireplace that you can sit in a rocking chair and read a book in. Out back you can see the geyser out back by the water.
