Really, what we are about is working with either startup or established brands to help them recruit customers that we know they can relate to, and then keep them there by showing them change, helping them with their journey, and really being engaged with the whole process of living a wellness based life.”

In this episode, our host Sam Balooch chats with Monique Class, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Holistic Health at The Center for Functional Medicine, about the connection between physical and spiritual health. SHOW NOTES Monique's journey started when she felt like there was something missing in her clinical nursing and medical classes. She would often cut class from the nursing program and go sit in classes like theology, philosophy, and metaphysics. Monique felt like this was the element that was missing in the traditional clinical world, and it was a great opportunity for her to take what she was learning in the classes of thought to the clinical world. One night she sat in a lecture by Ram Das, one the great philosophical thinkers of the 60s and 70s, at the University of Virginia. Not knowing who he was, she listened to him talk about the spiritual elements of life and a light bulb went off.She then went on a search to explore more about life and the after life. What she found in that journey was something she never expected to find. The transition between the end of physical life and the beginning of the spiritual ascension. After going through a holistic healing program for nurses that taught them energy work on the body, she was recruited by Dr. Oz and his team at Columbia University Hospital to perform energy work on people who were having heart transplants. This incredible opportunity allowed her to marry her clinical nursing background with her strong belief in energy work. This passage of personal spiritual journey of hers pulled her from helping the ones who were at the time of passing to the essence of creation. The Maternity unit, where she eventually met Dr. Joel Evans, Medical Director of KBMO, and rest is history. In this incredible journey she soon realized that the essence of connection was in coaching. Whether it was coaching pregnant women or people transitioning to the end of their life, the connection that coaching provided was the key element to a healthy mind and life.Monique also understands the business side of medicine and its challenges. She shares the differences in both the insurance-based model and the private sector of medicine, as well as solutions on how to bridge this gap.
Sam is joined by our director of nutrition, Lori Graham, to interview Joel M. Evans, M.D., a board certified OB/GYN and international lecturer. He is the Founder and Director of The Center for Functional Medicine, where he practices integrative functional gynecology. SHOW NOTES Dr. Evans's aha moment happened when he had a patient who was newly diagnosed with breast cancer six months before her wedding. She asked him a question that he did not know the answer to and this sparked him to think further. She wanted to know if what she eats will affect her condition. This patient really pushed him and questioned him to find out more on this matter. In the 90s, doctors like Joel Evans had to actually take time and research topics like this as there weren't one-click answers available on Google.Dr. Evans became angry internally that despite his extensive education he never learned anything about the importance of nutrition on the body. The doctor had another revelation when he later had a patient who was terminally sick and challenged him with questions about life after death. This pushed Dr. Evans to explore alternative thinking and meditation for the first time in his career. At this point, Dr. Evans realized that there were two huge gaps within his traditional training that did not allow him to give his patients what they truly needed. These were two eye opening experiences for him and led him to his work today in both functional medicine and the use of meditation in his practice.Additionally, Dr. Evans' love for humanity led him to go to war zones around the world as well as teaching firefighters meditation to heal their minds post-911.His pioneer way of thinking has created a practice that connects the physiological changes within the body through different forms of meditation. His background as a MD allowed him to understand and measure the effects of mediation and how it connects to the neurobiology of stress and behavioral change. This led him to figure out that the true solutions to disease is through preventative measures from behavior and lifestyle changes. This type of progressive thinking led Dr. Joel to become a leading figure world wide for companies like KBMO and IFM (Institute for Functional Medicine)As the medical director for the KBMO FIT TEST, Dr. Evans explains what inclination is and how it affects your daily life and overall health. He explores the detail working of why these tests are so important and how people can get this information to truly improve their health.Being an OBGYN and one of the curriculum creators for IFM has led Dr. Evans to study females and their physiology and psychology in pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy, and post-pregnancy. He talks about the intention of the preconceived child from the mindset of both parents involved all the way through birth. In 1997, Dr. Evans worked under Jim Gordon at his Mind, Body, Medicine Institute, where he then went to work with meditation teachers such as Julia Kitty to better enhance his personal knowledge. This curiosity led him to India to study at a leading Ashram, where he also did charity work.
In this podcast, Sam is joined by our director of nutrition, Lori Graham, to interview Dr. Peter Osborne—the director of Origins Health Care in Sugar Land, Texas. He is a Doctor of Pastoral Science and a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist. SHOW NOTES Dr. Osborne started out as a chiropractor and dipped into the bodybuilding world in his early days. He learned early in his career about the healing aspects of the spine and mixed it with the focus and work ethic he acquired from bodybuilding.Dr. Osborne is also an entrepreneur and a great innovator of business and self development. At the beginning of his career, he met with a patient who desperately needed help in the VA and realized traditional medicine was not meeting his standards of care for these patients. He soon came to the conclusion that in order to actually make the changes that he desired to make nationally and eventually globally, he had to combine all his skills to make an impact. When creating his empire, Dr. Osborne realized that there was one key component that needed to be addressed and wasn't: gluten. His life mission then became educating the average Joe and physicians alike on the effects of gluten on the body.He is now one of the leading pioneers on the gluten-free movement. He is known to the medical and wellness world as the Gluten Free Warrior. He knew that in order to capture the attention of other physicians as well as the average person he needed a platform of people who were well known to both these parties and had personal experience with issues dealing with gluten. He brought to this platform a Mrs USA contestant who suffered from celiac as well as Dr. Alessio Fasano (one of the pioneer researchers on gluten) to speak to his audience on this issue. He later went on to develop a program called Web Wellness University, meant to educate people of all backgrounds on understanding their own body and his methods of looking at the body.He also has a Glutenology program, which is a post graduate program for health care providers. This is offered through his foundation The Gluten Free Society. Their mission of this foundation is to save 100 million lives through research and education.Dr. Osborne shares how physicians in his program can learn to apply the functional medicine philosophy to their current practice. He dives into the insurance model world and what his thoughts are on helping to create a better model, so we do not have so much chronic illness.
In this podcast, Sam is joined by our director of nutrition, Lori Graham, to chat with Dr. Joe Bosiljevac, board certified surgeon with an additional doctorate in natural medicine, with an emphasis on age management and longevity SHOW NOTES Dr. Joe Bosiljevac went through conventional medical school and was a cardiovascular surgeon. (One of the largest companies that does hormone replacement therapy). They asked Dr. Joe if he was interested in coming to Wall Street and opening up a practice for them. He started an age management practice and realized in this practice that body parts wear out. This led him to his main private practice of stem cells, based on his understanding of the need for regeneration in the aging population. He learned through his experience that not all stem cells are created equal. He realized that people who have autoimmune issues and other issues, such as diabetes or suffer from obesity, will not be good candidates.Dr. Joe found the most effective and healthiest stem cells for his aging clientele from pregnant women from the ages of 15-35 who were perfectly healthy. Through this cutting edge approach of looking at the human body, Dr. Joe realized there are other tactics to healing. This is what led him to NADs (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide). NAD is used to power metabolism by enabling the mitochondria—the power stations of the cell—to convert the food we eat into the energy our body needs to sustain all its functions. These different tools in Dr. Joe's toolbox allow him to help with proper anti-aging. Dr. Joe and Sam dive deep into the topic of hormone replacement therapy: the proper use of testosterone and what it means and how the use of hormones with the care of a Sam shares his own personal trials and errors with hormone therapy. How he took matters into his own hands to save his health at a young age when doctors couldn't help him. Dr. Joe weighs in on this issue and where we stand today from a medical viewpoint.Dr Joe also touches up on proper nutrition and exercise as key primary factors for the basis of health before looking into any hormone therapy or anti-aging. In this, Dr. Joe shares his knowledge and passion for the sources of food and the treatment of the animals.

He links the concept of self driving cars and the technology needed to make it a part of daily life to nanotechnology.Unfortunately, the FDA is not up to date for new tech like nanotechnology and physicians like Dr. Akhtari are trying to work with platforms that are not able to perform what is needed for technology like this.Dr. Akhtari talks about how little we know about the human body, especially about the brain, and discusses the history of medicine and research and how far we have come in some topics and so little in other topics. This present time in history allows us to use modern technology with age old tools to figure out more and more about who we are. This is a time in which we can use computers and algorithms mixed with medical tools to tell us so much more about our internal make up.Dr. Akhtari talks about how modern day physicists are the old age philosophers. He discusses the evolution of technology bringing spirituality and science closer by being able to measure things like frequencies. Today's technology is allowing us to extend our senses by being able to measure frequency.Dr. Akhtari's study on the brain looked at its ability to work exactly like a computer chip and how to study the brain as an electrical conductor to the body and its functions. He compares the creation of our technology of machines and how these machines are a mirror of ourselves. He talks about the future of A and the ups and downs of it on the human race.
