Time for a Tuesday edition of Glenn Clark Radio, a slow sports Monday so we'll begin to look ahead to the Orioles West Coast trip that begins tonight in Seattle with Tomoyuki Sugano on the mound, and also get ready for the return of Colton Cowser who was activated off the IL yesterday. Plus, it's a Tuesday so that means we'll get ‘Music Monday' with Intern Jake as he introduces the guys to some new music. At 10:40am, we will head out to Frederick to catch up with former MLB player and now manager of the Frederick Keys, Preston Wilson, as we preview the Keys season, talk MLB Draft League and lots more. And then in the second hour, we will be joined by some pretty special guests as Maryland Whipsnakes players Matt Rambo and Rob Pannell stop by to talk some lacrosse, PLL and lots more!
Chris Rosenthall and Kevin Brown return to recap the action from San Diego in Week 8 of the PLL season including discussions on whether or not we'd like to face the Waterdogs in the playoffs if they turned their season around, are they what their record says they are and what needs to change? Also, the two discuss the Redwoods splitting their two homecoming games, Rob Pannell reaching the 600-point milestone, and preview how weird it will look to see the Whipsnakes colors take over Homewood Field in Week 9.
We are excited to welcome Angi Baber and Rob Pannell, owners of Chilton House, to the show. Together they have hosted touring artists in their Richmond home for several years, putting on some of the most unique shows for artists and audiences alike. Chilton House is a venue like no other, offering fans a place to enjoy their favorite music while supporting and connecting with their favorite artists. In this episode, we talk with Angi and Rob about how they were brought together by their love of Alex Chilton of “Big Star'' as well as “The Replacements.” The two went on to purchase a former family practice clinic and turned it into their dream home, realizing they could bring their love of live music to Richmond in the form of house concerts. We then hear about the logistics of Chilton House shows, from travel schedules to equipment setup to sleeping arrangements. All ticket proceeds go to artists, and the entire process of these concerts are for the benefit of musicians, with the obvious bonus of providing a great listening experience to the community. The relationships fostered with both artists and audience members keep many coming back and create a familiar atmosphere that welcomes newcomers. Lastly we discuss how Chilton House's first and only rule shows respect for the artists and creates a better experience for audience members. Angi and Rob also go into the history of their extensive in-home video game and pinball collection, with Rob being a ranked player. This area of their home, filled with instruments and art adds a unique twist to an already special place. Angi and Rob discuss goals for the future and how they plan to keep putting on shows that add so much to the Richmond music scene. I'm not a fan of the crease dive. However, what I'm really not a fan of is a lacrosse goalie's lack of ability to and absolutely WRECK the player executing the dive. I feel the crease dive will go the way of the dodo bird once someone gets hurt (probably a goalie). Today we'll dissect Rob Pannell crease diving on Kyle Bernlohr and what I really wish had happened. I'm from Upstate NY so I'm naturally a big Connor Fields fan. When he found himself on the bench last season I couldn't believe it as the Chaos thrived without him. So in this episode I'm going to dive into the PLL stats a bit to see how this could happen. How could one of the most skilled attack on planet earth have trouble getting on the field in the Premier Lacrosse League. As part, we'll also talk about some geezers in the league that struggled in 2020, but have been playing really tough in 2021, Paul Rabil and Rob Pannell. Both put up stinkers last year, but have been incredible so far this season. We'll also talk about a few PLL rookies. I'll quickly profile Mac O'Keefe (Penn State), Jeff Teat (Cornell) and Jake Carroway (Georgetown). All three were highly touted and each has had a measure of success thus far in 2021. The opening weekend of the Premier Lacrosse League went down as expected. We saw a bunch of good games, all pretty close, and last nights Atlas/Archers game is being called by some, the best pro lacrosse game of all time. I don't buy that, but it was pretty exciting. We saw Grant Ament score 3 goals with a dish in his first PLL outing. Rob Pannell looked good going for a goal and 3 assists in his opener and then putting up 1 & 2 in his matchup last night against the Archers. Bryan Costabile also factored heavily for the Atlas which was good to see. On this week's episode, the PLL Championship Series is finally upon us. And to celebrate this glorious occasion, the boys are joined by 30-year-old rookie Rob Pannell of the Atlas [27:56-55:40]. But first, the fellas get into a heated debate about ankle socks in lacrosse [2:15-16:00], as well as the #PayUpKyle saga [16:05-20:05]. Finally we wrap things up with our PLL weekend preview of the first 3 games of the season this weekend [56:00-1:09:35].
Pro lacrosse action kicked off this weekend with the Barrage getting dropped by the Bayhawks 16-11. It was a very welcome sight, seeing guys running around on the lacrosse field beating on each other again. The winners of the weekend were definitely the Bayhawks (2-0) and the Outlaws (2-0). Both teams handled their weekend foes and ended up 2-0 by Sunday evening. Both teams looked sharp both offensively and defensively. The Hammerheads took one on the chin losing 18-6 to the Outlaws on Saturday before having the day off on Sunday. The Lizards also lost 2 games, but looked respectable and surprisingly tough on offense even without last years big cat Rob Pannell. They are then joined by Atlanta Blaze head coach Liam Banks and Florida Launch head coach Tom Mariano to get their thoughts, on both semifinals this weekend. Our podcast took a 3-week break for lacrosse's biggest tournament that takes place every 4 years. I joined Team USA in Netanya, Israel for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships. There were 46 participating countries, and on the final day, the USA held the flag high, sang our national anthem on the podium, and brought the gold back to the States. To relive the moments, drama, and fun, I asked my roommate with Team USA (he's also my New York Lizards teammate), heralded All-World attackman, and one of the best NCAA D1 players of all-time, Rob Pannell, to join me. On the show we talk about his origin story – how he found lacrosse. He was a "late-bloomer" and went grossly un-recruited through high school. RP3's as focused as any professional athlete. He works hard at his craft, training, and nutrition. We talk about it all. Suiting Up is a show that explores the psychology, playbook of tools, and strategies of the most influential people in sports, entrepreneurship, and entertainment. Enjoy my conversation with Team USA World Champion, Rob Pannell.
