After the Taliban took back control of Afghanistan, the National Resistance Front rose up to defy them. We spoke with their leader Ahmad Massoud, who has overseen hundreds of military and intelligence-gathering operations. He's following the footsteps of his father, who led his own resistance group, the Northern Alliance, until members of Al Qaeda assassinated him two days before they conducted the September 11 terrorist attacks. Fast forward to the mid-2000s, International Spy Museum executive director Chris Costa, then a human intelligence officer, worked with that group to develop intel on the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Now, in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal and Afghanistan's collapse, Costa says the U.S. is losing an opportunity to support Massoud and the National Resistance Front. Christian Zyp interviews Matthew Rankin (director/co-writer) about his new film UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. You can see it at the Metro Cinema from Feb 4th - 13th. Matthew Rankin will be at the Metro Cinema for the Feb 4th screening to do a Q&A.UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE is Rankin's second feature. A lovingly detailed, charmingly impossible story of a Canada where Persian and French are the two official languages, and loneliness is the common currency. The film blends the seemingly unrelated stories of Negin and Nazgol, who find money frozen in ice and try to claim it; Massoud, a tour guide in Winnipeg who is leading a confused and disoriented tour group; and Matthew (Rankin), who quits his unfulfilling job with the provincial government of Quebec and travels home to Winnipeg to visit his mother. The film is the official selection for Canada's International Picture Nomination for the 2025 Oscars.
Ahmad Massoud is the Commander of the National Resistance Front (NRF) of Afghanistan. Massoud is the son of the late anti-soviet and revolutionary commander, Ahmad Shah Massoud, and hails from the Province of Takhar in Northeast Afghanistan. After the assassination of his father in 2001, Ahmad and his family settled in the UK, where he completed his higher education and military training at the Sandhurst Military Academy. Ahmad received his bachelor's degree in War Studies from Kings College London and his master's degree in International Politics from City, University of London. After completing his education, Ahmad returned to Afghanistan and started his political movement. Supporters of his father declared him as the successor of the late Ahmad Shah Massoud. Now, he continues to advocate for the freedom of his people, appearing in the media and garnering support from allied nations. His vision for the country is reminiscent of his father's–decentralized, multicultural, and modern. Massoud recently authored In the Name of my Father: Struggling for Freedom in Afghanistan. This memoir explores his aspirations for his nation's future and his commitment to the values of liberty, justice, and human rights. Did we learn anything from 9-11-2001? More importantly, did we learn anything from the events leading up to 9-11-2001?For months, prior to the attacks, the leader of the Afghan Resistance Movement, Ahmad Shah Massoud tried over and over again to warn the U.S. and the West of an impending attack by al Qa'ida. His warnings were ignored as he continued his fight against them and the Taliban with almost no support from the U.S.Just days before the worst attack on our homeland, Massoud was killed by suicide bombers dispatched by bin Laden. AQ knew we would come to Massoud after the attack attempting to partner since we had no other allies in the country. After the botched Afghan Withdrawal, over 27 violent extremist organizations have flooded back into the country, training on the former Coalition Bases, under the tolerant protection of the Taliban, and in flagrant violation of the International Doha Agreement.Ahmad Massoud, the son of the Lion of the Panshir, continues the fight. For the first time he appears on a public broadcast with a U.S. elected official, Green Beret Congressman Mike Waltz. They are joined by the Afghan-American, former Army NCO - Legend - who has returned to Afghanistan multiple times to help evacuate at-risk Afghans and American Citizens. The topics in this podcast will blow your mind. Philippe Massoud grew up Lebanon, spending a lot of time in his family's hotel learning hospitality and cooking from the best. He was forced to leave his country during the civil war, arriving in the U.S. with a strong desire to pursue his culinary passion. That desire finally became a reality 15 years ago, when, after many fits and starts, he opened ilili in New York City, introducing Americans to Lebanese fine dining. The restaurant, whose name means “tell me” in colloquial Arabic Lebanese, features a striking modern design and a progressive menu that showcases many of Massoud's family recipes. https://thinkfuture.com | https://aidaily.us https://www.linkedin.com/company/omadeus/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/massoud-alibakhsh-7b139753 --- In this episode, Massoud from OMADEUS dives into the evolving world of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and introduces a groundbreaking "intelligent object messaging" system. The discussion begins with the diverse and often ambiguous definitions of AGI, highlighting how this lack of clarity fuels both hype and misconceptions. Massoud then unveils an innovative system that blends deterministic logic with advanced natural language processing, enabling objects like features, bugs, and documents to become "self-aware." These objects can autonomously communicate and efficiently route information, reducing the need for constant human oversight and reshaping how information flows within organizations. The system is inspired by biological models, where specialized components work in harmony. This approach not only streamlines communication but also simplifies access control and ensures that humans receive only pertinent information. The episode wraps up with a call to action for listeners to participate in a webinar, test the new messaging system, and contribute feedback to this transformative programming paradigm. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thinkfuture/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thinkfuture/support
On 24th November 2023, a conference was convened in the Russian capital of Moscow. Attendees included Russian politicians and an Iranian government representative. The conference was also attended by a number of exiled Afghan politicians: Shukria Barakzai, Fawzia Koofi, Muhammad Muhaqqiq, Ahmad Wali Massoud, and Ahmad Massoud. The event follows months of conflicting statements made by Russian officials about Afghanistan. In particular, Russian Special Envoy to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov has repeatedly reprimanded the Afghan government and highlighted its lack of ethnopolitical inclusivity. At the same time, Kabulov has stressed the need for engagement with Kabul and praised its counter-narcotics efforts as well as its ongoing campaign against Daesh (ISKP).What is driving Russia's seemingly mixed signals to Kabul? Ahmed-Waleed Kakar examines the conferences, and assesses what it reveals and signifies about Russo-Afghan relations.Links/references:Massoud's speech at the Moscow Conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsUL230Px3c&t=4sKabulov: The Afghan government is currently not inclusive. It's been 22 years since Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four planes and smashed two of them into the World Trade Center and another into the Pentagon. Heroic passengers fought back on the fourth flight to bring it down in a Pennsylvania field. It's a horrific event that changed so many lives in profound ways - and Sara is among them. One way Sara's life changed was moving to the nation's capital to write for the Washington Times. She embedded multiple times with American forces in Afghanistan and also managed to land an interview with Afghani warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum. Sara walks through this memory in vivid detail, what Dostum told her, and how it helped her understand the dynamics in play in Afghanistan on a much deeper level.
