Currently, proponents of a "female first" Title IX position point to scientific based arguments as the reason to exclude transgender athletes. Boys and men that play lacrosse must wear helmets to protect against concussions and other injuries. For girls and women lacrosse players, who face concussion and injuries, there is no helmet mandate. It is estimated that over 44% of concussions suffered by female lacrosse players could have been prevented if these players wore helmets. USA Lacrosse, the institution that oversees women's lacrosse, uses "tradition" and avoidance as a way to not mandate helmets for women. But change agent, dad, coach and entrepreneur Rob Stolker is challenging tradition with the co-founding of Hummingbird Sports https://www.hummingbirdsports.com/. Across the U.S., state legislators are implementing new laws to allow survivors of abuse additional time to file lawsuits against abusive authority figures. Unfortunately, the Pennsylvania legislature failed to pass laws extending that state's statute of limitations. In the end, survivors, in Pennsylvania, do not have adequate protection to process abuse and hold perpetrators accountable. On this episode, Alice Bohn, Legal Director at CHILD USA, joins the show to discuss the shortfalls and obstacles survivors will face in Pennsylvania. Ms. Bohn is a graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, where she oversaw initiatives to prevent child sexual abuse. Before law school, Alice worked in New Delhi, India with International Justice Mission on a national campaign to end bonded labor. Sharing is a Good Thing!!! Hollywood and Child Performers Child actors are similar to competitive youth athletes whose talents and age can be exploited by abusive authority figures. Do you and I have a duty to ensure we do not support movies or entertainment that causes injury to the physical, mental and emotional health of child actors? Are we complacent, in abuse, when we grab our popcorn and enjoy a show that may cause harm to children? Maybe there is no right or easy answer, but I am still asking the question.
