In this episode of the Spirit Led podcast, Furio Sclano shares his journey with Kriya Yoga and lessons learned with his guru Roy Eugene Davis. Furio reveals how Mr. Davis taught him to remain focused on the spiritual path and to trust the benevolent power nurturing the universe. Through stories of his own life, his advice from Roy Eugene Davis, and his study of the Kriya gurus' writings, Furio provides valuable insights into how to be successful on the spiritual path and in life.   Key Themes & Memorable Moments: Many moments of grace: From finding Roy Eugene Davis through a randomly chosen video to blessings encountered after his home burned down to a good samaritan returning his lost cash, Furio has learned not to be afraid of the unknown. Practical lessons from Roy Eugene Davis: Among others…motivation comes from within, keep the teachings pure, and maintain your integrity. Favorite quotes! “When you have to face a challenging situation, and you don't know what to do, just be faithful about the fact that the superior intelligence, which is inside and outside of you at the same time, will take care of the situation, and stop thinking about the problem. This works all the time. Maybe not in the way you expect, but usually in a better way.” "Practicing meditation every single day, little by little, faith is replaced by knowledge."   About Furio Sclano: Furio Sclano, a dedicated Kriya Yoga minister based in Savona, Italy, studied under Roy Eugene Davis from 1996 until Mr. Davis's passing in 2019 and was ordained by him in 2005. Why we can't quit our bad habits?

We all have bad habits and we still keep them. Even we know the bad consequences to keep our bad habits. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that our bad habits like unhealthy lifestyle with smoking, drinking excessive alcohol…. cause 50% of the death in the USA! For instance smoking 18% of total US deaths. Inactivity and bad eating: 16.6% of US deathsAlcohol consumption: 3.5%Why do we continuously keep our bad habits that destroy our health? Why can't we resist bad habits? 1.) To feel Comfort. We like to do whatever it takes to feel comfortable. Our brain is wired to reward us to feel comfortable when we have done something. Then our brain is giving us the feel-good hormone dopamine. Through our bad habit, we get that feel-good hormone dopamine.  2.) We want more. We want more of that feel-good hormone and then we associate the feel-good with our bad habit, like taking drugs, to eat sweets…  After some time we have wired our “feel-good” with that bad habit.3.)  Social proof. The bad habit is wildly accepted. We see our friends also indulged in that bad habit so that we assume that we are okay. And we see many people have our bad habit, that validates that we are okay. 4.)  Bad consciousness. We have a bad consciousness by our bad habit and we can't quit. We like to suffer and for that, we need our bad consciousness. And then we run in a vicious circuit that promotes our bad habit.5.) To Rationalize. We find a reason why our bad habit will not harm us for a short time.  For instance: “Just one more won't hurt” or “I'll do better next week, I've just had a stressful day today”. These short time justifications keep our bad habit. We find reasons, why our bad habit will not harm us in the long term. Like, “Mike Jagger (Rolling Stones) is still a great star, so his drugs didn't harm him. 6.)  To give up. We know the consequences of our bad habits, like smoking. Still, we keep our bad habit. We think we can't stop our bad habit and even say, we can quit our bad habit. We have closed our heart to find a solution. And we have no problem to discuss every solution, how to break our bad habit. - It doesn't bother us anymore. My Video: Why we can't quit our bad habits?  https://youtu.be/z5NrxInrXPoMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast.B/Why-we-can't-quit-our-bad-habits.mp3

In an era where employment-related stress and burnout are increasingly prevalent, it's essential to understand and address these highly damaging issues at the corporate level. In the first episode of the year, Dr. Jacqueline Kerr, a globally recognized behavior change scientist, community advocate, and TEDx speaker joins me for a conversation about burnout, public health, and the role of organizations in mitigating burnout. Dr. Kerr deeply resonates with the intersection of public health and personal behaviour change, particularly with respect to the effects of workplace burnout. Burnout can affect every facet of a person's life and might be induced by pressures from multiple areas of life in its myriad versions. Dr. Kerr emphasized the value of intervention, noting the vital role that organizations can play in learning from and adopting community-based approaches to prevent burnout. Driving home the importance of collective efforts in combating burnout, Dr. Kerr highlighted the pivotal role of leaders. Leaders are encouraged to forge a healthier atmosphere in the workplace, thus decreasing the possibility of burnout. Flexible work hours, limiting non-essential meetings, and fostering a culture of appreciation can all contribute to a more engaged and less stressed workforce.  Furthermore, a thriving culture of inclusiveness is essential along with recognizing the link between bias and burnout. The approach must be comprehensive, considering individual, family, organizational, and societal level factors.  Workplace culture is often linked to changes in behavior patterns. As with managing any change, understanding where people stand in relation to the concept of change is crucial in bringing about effective behavioral adjustments. The key is to create a safe environment where employees feel comfortable discussing changes they'd like to see in the workplace.  Dr. Kerr highlighted the importance of reducing unnecessary meetings and encouraging more focused work time to boost productivity and reduce burnout. She recommended considering the reduction of meeting hours and introduced the concept of a "meeting-free week” as a productive approach to address the perceived need for continuous meetings within teams. Moreover, job crafting, cases of biased promotion systems, and other nuanced aspects of workplace practices can significantly impact burnout levels. Encouraging transparency, promoting flexibility, and valuing employee contributions can significantly ameliorate these effects. As much as organizational changes are vital, individual mental habit changes also play a critical role in mitigating burnout. Acknowledging that behavior change is tough and requires support, Dr. Kerr emphasized the importance of setting realistic daily behavior plans.  It is our aim to provide practical inputs and insights on mitigating workplace burnout, emphasizing collective responsibility and action. Through strategic implementation of behavioral sciences, workplaces can become more vibrant, engaging, and less stressful environments, where every individual can truly thrive. Job burnout is recognized by the World Health Organization, but there is also caregiver burnout, emotional burnout, and parental burnout that leads to #nervoussystemexhaustion . While self-care helps you manage your stress it does not solve the structural inequalities that create the conditions that cause burnout. We need to use behavior change science to create individual, organizational and cultural change to prevent burnout.   Dr Jacqueline Kerr is a mom, behavior scientist and burnout survivor. She is in the Top 1% of Most Cited Scientists worldwide and her work has informed the US Center for Disease Control Community Prevention Guide. Dr. Kerr left her position as a public health professor in 2018. She now hosts the Podcast 'Overcoming Working Mom Burnout' where she interviews researchers, diversity experts, and leadership coaches, focusing on #mentalillness. She is on a mission to dismantle the causes of working mom burnout and #genderbias with individual, organizational and cultural change through behavior change science. Morning sickness affects 4 in 5 women at some point in pregnancy but until now we've known little about why. Now researchers in the USA, Sri Lanka and the UK have discovered that it could be linked to a hormone produced in the placenta, and the mother's reaction to it. Dr Graham Easton explains how it could lead to new cures. He also brings Claudia Hammond news from Ukraine where the ongoing war has caused an increase in multidrug-resistant organisms. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Center for Public Health of Ukraine are calling the spread of antimicrobial resistance in Ukraine an urgent crisis. People living in Port Sudan, the country's biggest sea port city, have spent days struck by an unprecedented infestation of flies. Claudia hears how it has made everyday life almost impossible, and how it could have long term health consequences for residents. And how does watching news coverage of disasters make you feel? Starting July 4, 2021, and lasting past the holiday, members of the LGBTQ community converged on Provincetown, Massachusetts, for a holiday that was supposed to be a celebration of the end of the long COVID-19 lockdown. When the weather turned rainy, they confidently took the party indoors, packing the little seaside town's restaurants, bars, and clubs. Why not? They were vaccinated and mask mandates had been lifted. What happened next shocked both the revelers and the country, shutting down what had been hyped as a “hot vax summer,” and signaling that there was a long way to go before the pandemic was over. PhD student Lydia Krasilnikova—who co-led an 80-person, multi-organization collaboration examining the July 2021 superspreader event in Provincetown—talks about what happened and how the outbreak contributed to the US Center for Disease Control's decision to resume its recommendation of indoor masking later that year.

Why is fitness so hard? It certainly seems that being fit is a difficult task. Why else would there be a booming fitness industry, yet still a looming obesity epidemic. In 2021, the gym and fitness club industry alone was about 35 Billion US Dollars in 2021 and that was significantly down from pre-pandemic levels. And gyms are only a portion of the total fitness industry. In 2019, the weight loss and diet market size was said to be about 192 billion US dollars. Just for comparison, the entire NASA budget was just over 25 Billion USD for 2022. So, we're spending almost 8 times more money trying to get fat off our waists than we do getting people into space. So yeah, the fitness industry is huge, but according to the US Center for Disease Control, over 36% of US adults 20 and over were obese in 2016 data.  38% of men were obese. That's not small numbers. Statistically, that's an epidemic. The American diet certainly has a lot of do with those numbers, but shouldn't our fitness industry be helping to keep those numbers down? We are literally spending about $600 per US citizen on diet and weight loss per year. That's not an insignificant number. So, despite spending all this money on fitness, why are so many Americans not only overweight, but obese? Is it that fitness is hard? We'll discuss it next.

Activity — physical activity, that is, IS important every single day for people who've entered their senior years. Being sedentary is absolutely the WORST thing any of us should be. But, how much, how often, and how intense should exercise be? Rest and recovery days are every bit as important as exercise days. The American Heart Association states that we need about 150 minutes per week of fairly challenging and purposeful exercise. The US Center for Disease Control agrees with them.

K.M. Venkat Narayan, MD, is the Ruth and OC Huber Chair of Global Health and Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, the Director of Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, and a professor of medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. He is the former chief of the diabetes, epidemiology, and statistics branch at the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. With over 500 publications, Dr. Narayan is noted for substantial multidisciplinary work in diabetes and noncommunicable diseases. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the American Diabetes Association's Kelly West Award, the Danish Diabetes Academy Visiting Professor Award, and Emory University's Mentor of the Year Award. How do we really define success? According to Dr. K.M. Venkat Narayan, it is the ability to do what we are really interested in—and doing it well. Today, Dr. Narayan teaches us how we can best allocate our time to preserve mental energy, and to still feel accomplished in our work. We learn why it is imperative to think outside our areas of research alone. Studies in philosophy and literature became surprising aids to Dr. Narayan in his career, so he urges us to remember to think broadly, and to be creative thinkers in our work. He also reminds us to celebrate failure. Because if you haven't failed, you haven't tried. Pearls of Wisdom: 1. Remember that breadth is just as important as depth. Develop an intellectual curiosity and have the mindset of thinking broadly. Many of the advances in medicine have come from observations outside of medicine. 2. Devote 1-2 hours on the most critical work of your day. Spend your most alert hours on those projects that are most significant in your life. 3. Celebrate failure. Remember that if you have not failed, you have not tried. Rather than being sad about failures, celebrate them and move forward.
