This time we opted to forgo spinning the wheel to just go ahead and watch a film suggested to us by a friend over on the discord! (shout out to L_Troemel!)  For the uninitiated, Handmade Puppet Dreams is a series of short films produced by Heather Henson and her puppet company Ibex Puppetry. Founded in 2004, Handmade puppet dreams has provided the means and exposure for smaller puppet artists to create some truly unique films straight out of their own imaginations. This week the boys will be watching a found object puppet piece based on a Japanese Shinto story called Amaterasu.  This one is really special, with beautiful found objects telling a classic mythological story of feuding gods. (Now that Ben has a baby, we expect that to happen A LOT.) Since we didn't have time to do proper research, and we want to make sure to do Chinese Puppetry justice, we decided to save puppet history for another time and create a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency pod. To that end we created a brand-new wheel: the Handmade Puppet Dreams wheel! For the uninitiated, Handmade Puppet Dreams is a series of short films produced by Heather Henson and her puppet company Ibex Puppetry. This week the Masters of None take a look at the brand-new puppet Netflix mini-series, Eric. After previous guest, Beccy Henderson, told us she had worked on it, we knew this thing was going to be special. We did not anticipate just how out of our normal realm of puppet content we would find ourselves. This dark a gritty 1980's cop drama is much more intense than anything we've ever analyzed. With themes of loss, mental illness, abuse and death, this version of New York City is about as far away from Sesame Street as you can get, even if it does have its own 6-foot-tall walk about puppet character. Does Benedict Cumberbatch finally give us a puppetry film for adults that doesn't fall into the same old stale trap of grossout humor and shock value?
