Click here to send us a topic idea or question for Weekend Wisdom.Question: We very recently brought home our second child through domestic infant adoption. We feel very fortunate, and our son is developing well; we are also settling into the new routine.  We matched with our Son's birth mother through a local agency, and unfortunately, she decided that she did not want to meet us. She gave no information about the biological father.  We know she was caucasian, but honestly, it is unclear whether our son is entirely caucasian or not. The pediatrician said it was a mystery, and he may be caucasian with a darker complexion, or biracial, some amount of Hispanic, black, or any other heritage. We want to do everything in our power to be informed, acknowledge, and celebrate any ethnic background that is presented, but short of doing a DNA ancestry service on a baby that is a few weeks old, I don't really know where to begin- I'd appreciate any guidance you have. Resources:Raising a Transracial or Multicultural ChildAdoptee VoicesEthical Issues in Genetic Testing in AdoptionGenetic Testing and Genealogy for AdopteesGenetic Testing for Adoptees – Is It Worth It?Support the showPlease leave us a rating or review. For 75 years, Charles Schultz's Peanuts gang has reflected our humor and hope, as well as our struggle to navigate some of life's everyday curveballs. How is it that the characters he created so poignantly reflect how we experience other people and the world around us? And why do a ragtag group of comic strip kids who debuted in newspapers in 1950 post-war America, still resonate with children and adults around the world? Andrew Blauner, author of “THE PEANUTS PAPERS: Writers and Cartoonists on Charlie Brown, Snoopy & the Gang, and the Meaning of Life,” sat down with USA TODAY's The Excerpt to discuss the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts gang and its enduring impact.Have feedback on the show? Read OnlineTurning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.” Luke 10:23–24Imagine seeing Jesus in person. What would that have been like? What would it have been like to see Him, listen to Him preach, witness His miracles and spend time sitting with Him quietly? The experience of being with Him as He walked the earth would have been determined by the depth of interior sight you had. There were many who saw Jesus but rejected Him, and even killed Him. Clearly, they did not have the interior eyes of faith to see Him for Who He was. Others left everything behind to follow Him. Clearly, they perceived Who He was in His divine soul through the gift of faith. As Jesus states above, the disciples were blessed to see Him. Many prophets and kings of old desired to see the Messiah. Century after century, the prophecies about the coming of the Messiah would have left many with much anticipation and hope that they would be among those blessed to see Him. Recall, for example, Simeon the prophet who waited his whole life to see the Christ Child. Then, when Mary and Joseph brought the Child Jesus into the Temple to present Him to the Lord, Simeon took the Child into his hands and proclaimed, “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel” (Luke 2:29–32). Indeed, Simeon, the disciples, and all who encountered Jesus as He walked the earth were truly blessed. They were blessed to see the Son of God with their own eyes.Jesus proclaimed the eyes of the disciples to be blessed for seeing Him. However, if He were to speak to us today, He would proclaim us doubly blessed. We do not see Him in physical form, walking the earth. But we are able to perceive Him in a way that even Simeon did not experience in His life. Simeon saw the Savior of the World with his eyes, present in human form. But today, we are able to see Him in an even more profound way. By the gift of grace and the indwelling of God, we are able to look within our own souls and discover the true presence of God living within us.One might argue that seeing Jesus with your eyes is preferable to seeing His divine presence within your soul. But is it? Certainly not. Again, recall that there were many who saw Jesus with their eyes but did not recognize Him as God. Today, we are privileged to perceive the presence of Christ in our world in the deepest way possible. He came to live within us. He came to possess us. He came to unite Himself with us in a union so deep that it transforms us completely, making us into His very body.If it took faith to see the divinity of Jesus when He walked the earth, it will also take faith to see His true presence within us. Our sins cloud His presence. Our lack of faith makes it hard to see Him there. But God is alive within every soul that is in a state of grace, and it must be our ongoing duty to discover His indwelling presence and to be with Him within. In her spiritual masterpiece, “Interior Castles,” Saint Teresa of Ávila explains that the infinite God does dwell within us. It is our duty to enter into the most secret core of our being, the most interior castle, navigating through our many sins, so that we will enter the deepest center where the fullness of the great King dwells. Reflect, today, upon Jesus' words spoken to the disciples: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.” Know that this statement applies even more to you. Seek to have the eyes of faith so that you can perceive the true presence of the Savior of the World living within your own soul. Seek Him out, gaze at Him with love, bask in His divine presence and allow that presence to overshadow you, transforming you into the person God wants you to be. My indwelling Lord, I am blessed beyond belief by Your divine presence dwelling within me. Please open my eyes to see You and my ears to hear You so that I will be able to dwell with You Who have come to dwell in me. Jesus, I trust in You.Image via Adobe StockSource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

It's Friday, October 3rd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslim terrorist shot dead outside British synagogue on Yom Kippur On Thursday, a British terrorist of Syrian descent drove a car into people outside a synagogue in Manchester, England and then began stabbing them, killing two Jews and seriously wounding four others in a terrorist attack on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, reports the Associated Press. Officers shot and killed the suspect though authorities took some time to confirm he was dead because he was wearing a vest that made it appear as if he had explosives. Authorities later said he did not have a bomb. The man has been identified as 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, where 87% of the population is Muslim, reports the BBC. The Metropolitan Police in London, who lead counter-terrorism policing operations, declared the rampage a terrorist attack. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said two other suspects were arrested, though he provided no further information on the arrests. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, an atheist, denounced the attack on the Jewish synagogue. STARMER: “Earlier today, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day for the Jewish community, a vile individual committed a terrorist attack that attacked Jews because they are Jews, and attacked Britain because of our values. “So many Jewish families first came to this country as a place of refuge fleeing the greatest evil ever inflicted on a people and Britain welcomed them. Communities like the one attacked in Manchester provided safety, but also the security that comes from a promise that this is a country that stands up to hatred and that we don't just provide refuge, we provide a home for so many Jewish families, that is the story of Britain. “But Britain is also a country where Jewish buildings, synagogues, even schools, require round-the-clock protection, where dedicated, specialist security is necessary because of the daily threat of antisemitic hatred. Today's horrific incident shows why.” Antisemitic incidents in the United Kingdom have hit record levels following Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and Israel's ensuing military campaign in Gaza, according to Community Security Trust, an advocacy group for British Jews that works to eliminate antisemitism. More than 1,500 antisemitic incidents in Britain were reported in the first half of the year. Pope Leo blasts Trump's hard-line immigration policy as not “pro-life” Pope Leo XIV strongly criticized President Donald Trump's hardline immigration policies, questioning whether they were in line with the Catholic church's “pro-life” teachings, reports The Guardian. Outside the papal summer residence in the Alban Hills, near Rome, this is what Pope Leo, the first American pope, said about Trump in response to a question from a U.S. journalist. POPE LEO: “Someone who says that I'm against abortion, but I'm in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants who are in the United States, I don't know if that's pro-life.” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reacted. LEAVITT: “I would reject there is inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants in the United States under this administration, there was, however, significant, inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants in the previous administration as they were being trafficked and raped and beaten and in many cases, killed over our United States southern border.” Texas megachurch pastor pleads guilty to sexually abusing a child The founder of a Texas megachurch who resigned last year after a woman in Oklahoma accused the pastor of sexually abusing her in the 1980s pleaded guilty Thursday to five counts of lewd and indecent acts with a child, reports KLTV. Robert Morris, age 64, entered the pleas before a judge in Oklahoma's Osage County as part of a plea agreement, according to the state attorney general's office. The abuse began in 1982 when the victim was 12 and Morris was a traveling evangelist staying in Hominy, Oklahoma, with her family. The abuse continued over the next four years. Numbers 32:23 says, “You have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.” Morris was the senior pastor of Gateway Church in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Southlake, where he led one of the nation's largest megachurches until his resignation. He was indicted earlier this year by an Oklahoma grand jury. Under the plea agreement, Morris received a 10-year suspended sentence with the first six months to be served in an Oklahoma  County Jail. Christian wedding photographer wins in court A federal court has sided with a Christian photographer challenging misguided mandates she believes would force her to take pictures at a homosexual wedding despite her religious objections, reports The Christian Post. This is the latest example of U.S. courts ruling in favor of religious liberty protections.  In the opinion published Tuesday, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky sided with photographer Chelsey Nelson in her ongoing legal dispute with the city of Louisville. Miami Dolphins player Tua Tagovailoa credits Jesus after win And finally, Miami Dolphins player Tua Tagovailoa (Tah-go-VYE-lo-a) thanked and glorified God after his team's win in a recent game, marking the latest example of the athlete using his platform to highlight his Christian faith, reports The Christian Post. On Monday, the Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets 27-21 in a game between the two National Football League teams. In a post-game interview with Peter Schrager following Monday's game, Tagovailoa did not hesitate to give God the glory. Listen. SCHRAGER: “You come out with a victory. All three facets dominated. The Jets today, your impression and take on the game." TAGOVAILOA: “First and foremost, all glory belongs to God, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Just want to thank Him for this victory, for keeping us safe for the most part. My prayers go out to all the guys that got injured tonight. My boy Tyreke. It was a team win. That's all it was. That's all I could say about this. It was hard fought to the end. Just wanted to make sure that I glorified my Lord and Savior, Jesus, Christ.” His post-game interview was not the first time the athlete has put his Christian faith on display. In 2018, as a college football player for the University of Alabama, Tagovailoa reacted to his team's win against the Georgia Bulldogs by proclaiming, “First and foremost, I'd just like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With Him, all things are possible.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, October 3rd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Rachel Dratch joins Ophira Eisenberg to talk about raising her 13-year-old son Eli, reflecting on how his confident, social personality contrasts with her own bookish teen years. She recalls once assuming she wouldn't have children, only to be surprised when a channeler predicted she'd meet someone and have one child—a prophecy that eerily came true when she met Eli's father months later and became pregnant at 44. Rachel discusses the challenges of managing screen time, joking about how her hierarchy of goals slid from “read a book” to “at least watch TV instead of TikTok shorts.” She shares how Eli's friendships overlap with the kids of fellow SNL alums Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Emily Spivey, and how he joined her as her date to the Tony Awards when she was nominated for POTUS. The conversation also covers her son's passion for basketball, her abandoned dream of playing cello for him, and Halloween costumes she still brags about years later—including a homemade Doritos bag. A recurring theme is Rachel's mix of skepticism and bemusement around the supernatural, from crystals in her pocket to Eli's deep pronouncement that “time isn't real.” The episode ends with her warning against trampoline parks, after two of Eli's birthday parties ended with ER visits.

Tiffany opens up about the hard parts, walking on eggshells, losing friends, school crises, and a medication rollercoaster that ultimately led to an ER visit. Her story is honest, real, and packed with the kind of hope you can only get from someone who's lived it.Dana and Tiffany trace the turning points: stepping off the “more meds” treadmill, embracing a comprehensive natural approach, running functional testing, changing routines and food, and focusing on relationship-based parenting. Early wins like calmer bedtimes, better sleep, and real dinner-table conversations built into bigger shifts of self-advocacy at school, communication, and a family trip that once felt impossible. If you've ever wondered whether change is possible, this conversation is for you. In this episode of the Parent Companion for Play Therapy series, I answer one of the most common questions parents have: What does a child-centered play therapist actually do? From the outside, it might look like kids are just playing, but in reality, everything the therapist says and does is intentional, skill-based, and grounded in the child-centered psychological theory. I explain how therapists use reflective responses, offer choices, set limits when needed, and create a safe environment of trust, respect, and unconditional acceptance. I also share the deeper ways a child experiences the therapist's presence, engagement, and care. In this episode, we explore how to track progress beyond reflex testing by looking at functional, everyday signs of improvement. Reflex tests are important, but they don't always tell the whole story. Sometimes a child may have several retained reflexes, but those reflexes don't significantly interfere with their day-to-day life!If you've ever wondered whether your reflex integration work is truly helping, this episode will help you connect the dots between reflexes, functional outcomes, and real-life independence. This episode will help you shift your focus from testing and exercises alone to looking at real-life skills—because progress isn't just about what happens in therapy, it's about creating lasting change in daily life.LINKSWe'd love to answer your questions on the podcast! 417: The Most Important Lessons My 2-Year-Old Son Has Taught Me

“Parenting is a spiritual path of growth and evolution.”  Have you ever noticed how children have a way of teaching us the deepest truths about life without ever saying a word? In their laughter, their play, their curiosity, and even their tantrums, they mirror back to us who we really are. In this episode of Soul Talk, I share the most important lessons my 2-year-old son has taught me, lessons about love, ego, happiness, and presence. Parenting, I've discovered, isn't just about raising a child. It's a profound spiritual path, one that stretches you, humbles you, and calls you to live with greater integrity and selflessness. From learning that happiness is our true nature, not something we chase, to remembering the sacredness of ordinary moments, I'll take you through the ways fatherhood has transformed me. You'll hear how children act as mirrors for our unhealed wounds, why they copy everything we do, and how their playfulness and curiosity invite us back to a simpler, freer way of living. If you've ever felt weighed down by life's seriousness, struggled to stay present with loved ones, or wondered how to break cycles of generational pain, this conversation will open your heart. Because at its core, parenting and life itself aren't about perfection. It's about choosing love, healing what we've carried, and leaving a legacy of wholeness for the next generation. Real joy isn't in the milestones or the accomplishments. Real joy is in the everyday moments, moments we often overlook until they're gone. And sometimes, it takes the eyes of a child to remind us of that truth. Timestamps: (00:04:23) -  Parenting as another world.  (00:05:39) -  Parenting = spiritual path/ego purification. (00:08:02) -  Selflessness, generational thinking & responsibility. (00:11:14) -  Child as mirror; fruit of inner work.   (00:13:23) - “They copy everything” — integrity & who-you-are matters.   (00:19:16) - Curiosity / non-judgement / in-the-moment emotional release.  (00:21:10) -  Happiness is our nature/stop seeking. (00:24:09) -  Savor ordinary moments; “he will never be this small again.”  (00:26:48) -  Unconditional love / “I'm lovable just the way I am.”  Some questions I ask: What conditions do I put on my happiness? What is parenting really like, beyond what we imagine? How does being a parent purify the ego? Can a man truly become a man without being responsible for another life? How do children reflect the parts of us we haven't healed? How much are kids absorbing from everything we do and say? Am I appreciating the ordinary moments that will never come again? In this episode, you will learn about: Why parenting is one of the most profound spiritual paths. How children mirror our subconscious patterns and unresolved wounds. The importance of integrity, why kids learn more from what we do than what we say. Lessons on play, presence, and embracing life's ordinary moments. How to reconnect with happiness as your natural state of being. The power of healing your own consciousness to gift your children freedom from generational pain.   Get in Touch: Email me at kuteblackson@kuteblackson.com Visit my website: www.kuteblackson.com Resources with Kute Blackson: Kute's Life-changing Path to Abundance & Miracles: https://www.8levelsofgratitude.com Free masterclass: Learn The Manifestation secret to Remove Mental Blocks & Invisible Barriers to Attract The Life of Abundance You Desire. Inspired by a story of a successful businessman who rediscovers his childhood joy fixing bicycles, Matt reflects on how easily passion can fade — and what shop owners and managers can do to help their teams rekindle it.He tackles the classic debate of “follow your passion” versus “follow the money,” examines how shop culture and leadership can either nurture or crush enthusiasm, and shares candid thoughts on his own journey to keep that sense of wonder alive through advanced diagnostics, ADAS calibrations, EEPROM work, and more. From systemic demotivators like inadequate tooling and broken pay structures, to the transformative power of genuine leadership excitement, Matt invites listeners to reconsider how they approach motivation and fulfillment in their shops — and in their own careers.Key Takeaways:A Lesson in Passion: A story about a man who spent decades in a corporate career before returning to his childhood love — repairing bicycles — illustrates how deeply rooted passions can resurface and transform our lives.Passion vs. Paycheck: Matt discusses the tension between following your passion and pursuing financial stability — and why the answer isn't always as simple as motivational slogans make it seem.Keeping the Spark Alive: For technicians and shop owners alike, maintaining interest and curiosity often requires growth: new tools, deeper training, challenging work, and continuous learning.Demotivators in the Shop: Being “set up to fail” — whether through lack of equipment, poor information, inadequate training, or broken systems — is one of the most effective ways to kill enthusiasm and productivity. The Leadership Role: Leaders who show excitement about the work and actively celebrate their team's wins help create a culture that sustains passion rather than drains it.Shops as Schools: Matt draws a comparison to how schools can drain curiosity from kids, urging shop owners to avoid building environments that strip away the same energy and wonder from their technicians.Notable Quotes:“Those who do not believe in magic will never find it.” – Roald Dahl“Sometimes work sucks the wonder right out of us — the same way school can strip curiosity from kids.”“I get into advanced diagnostics, ADAS, EEPROM work — not just because I can, but because it keeps that childlike wonder alive.”“Setting someone up to fail isn't just about tooling or training. It's about robbing them of the chance to succeed — and that kills passion faster than anything.”Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingNAPA Autotech's team of ASE Master Certified Instructors are conducting over 1,200 classes covering 28 automotive topics. In this episode of the Art of the Session series, I focus on how we engage in role play within child-centered play therapy sessions—and more importantly, how to do it without taking over the process. Role play often trips up even seasoned therapists, especially when we assume, ad-lib, or react without clarity. I share specific examples of how to stay grounded, use whisper or wonder techniques when unclear, and how to remain neutral in your tone and response—no matter how absurd, violent, or emotional the play might get. Whether it's being assigned the role of a queen, a mom, or a turtle, it's essential that we don't bring our own scripts into the session. Instead, I explain how to wait, reflect, and let the child set the pace and parameters of the play—so we remain truly child-centered. This episode reinforces that every interaction—even pretend food, puppet bites, or birthday announcements—offers us an opportunity to respond without leading, interpreting, or disrupting the child's process. Discover how to create an environment where kids feel driven to learn, calm under pressure, and connected at home. These small shifts can transform study sessions, chores, and family time—no sneaky tricks required. KEY POINTS Dopamine – The Anticipation Engine: Break big tasks into small wins to fuel progress and keep motivation high. Serotonin – The Calm Conductor: Nature time, sunlight, and slow breathing help kids reset and regulate emotions. Endorphins – The Natural Painkiller: Movement, laughter, and a dash of safe risk-taking release powerful mood boosters. The problem of child sex abuse and its cover-up is real. A generation of American children are being destroyed. If you think this happens to someone else's children and your children are safe, you are mistaken. Your children might be enduring sexual abuse right now while you remain dangerously ignorant. America's appetite for child pornography puts all our children at risk. Your children and mine. Whether you acknowledge it or not. This book is a wake-up call about a subject too few people want to discuss. That is, while no one was watching, America has become a child pornography nation.https://amzn.to/46IiEDYBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

In today's episode, I'm joined by my long-time colleague, and our Chief People Officer here at CEG, Sandy Longworth. Sandy has worked as a therapist, a researcher, college counselor — among other things — and has spent years studying the role that narrative storytelling plays in how teens develop their identities.  Important note: While Sandy trained as a therapist, and we do talk a lot about therapy in our conversation, I want to make clear that I do not hold that college counseling and essay coaching — or what we do at College Essay Guy — to be therapy. It isn't. As college counselors and essay coaches — and I'm speaking about us as a profession here — we help students discover the skills, qualities, values, and interests they'll bring to a college campus… and then express those parts of themselves in writing.  Having said that, when I was first introduced to Narrative Therapy in 2012, I was struck by how some of its techniques — like reframing, for instance, which involves finding alternate perspectives on a set of events, something sometimes called “re-storying” — overlap with some of the things that happen in essay coaching sessions… and that's the territory Sandy and I explore in this conversation.   In this episode, Sandy and I get into:  How adolescence is a key time for identity development, how this process unfolds and why it's so significant for personal statements What is narrative identity theory and how do our stories shape who we think we are and can be?  How can narrative therapy techniques help students develop and showcase these qualities? What are some narrative therapy exercises students can use to reflect on their experiences and write authentically? And more   Sandy Longworth is a proud first-generation college graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison who earned her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University, completed her doctoral coursework in Child and Family Studies from UW-Madison, and completed her School Counseling certificate at Northern Illinois University.  There's a little more to her bio, but I'll let her share that with you directly — hope you enjoy.    Play-by-Play: 3:05 – Sandy shares her background and some of her roles and identities  9:46 – Why is adolescence such a key time for identity development, and how does that connect to the personal statement?  12:20 – What role does narrative storytelling play in how students think about and develop their identities?  24:26 – How can narrative therapy techniques help students develop and showcase these qualities in their college application? 39:32 – What are some practical ways counselors and students can bring narrative therapy techniques into the personal statement process? 41:34 – Sandy leads Ethan through a narrative exercise 53:41 – Ethan and Sandy share impact and reflections 1:01:16 – How could narrative therapy ideas inform a montage-style essay? 1:10:10 – What does Sandy love about this work?  1:13:32 – What resources are available to learn more about narrative therapy? 1:16:15 – Closing thoughts    Resources: The Dulwich Centre The Values Exercise CEG's College Admission Nutrients (aka The Great College Application Test) College Essay Guy's Personal Statement Resources College Essay Guy's College Application Hub

Master your minerals. Harmonize your hormones. Start your mineral journey here. What if the root of your child's health struggles isn't another cream, pill, or quick fix, but something much deeper? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Nina Marie Rueda, a naturopath who works with children and families through a functional, integrative lens. Her own journey started during her first pregnancy, when she realized how little she'd supported her body and baby with nutrition. This pregnancy completely changed her perspective, and she went from wanting to become a university professor to birth work, nutrition training, and eventually naturopathy. We get into why minerals matter so much for kids, especially when it comes to challenges like picky eating, eczema, and sleep struggles. Dr. Nina explains how testing works, why hair analysis often gives a clearer picture than blood work for children, and what common mineral patterns she sees in practice. The conversation is raw, practical, and full of insights for parents trying to make sense of their kids' health struggles without getting lost in overwhelm. You'll Learn:How a Bradley Method class shifted Dr. Nina's path to naturopathyWhat minerals actually do in kids' bodies and why they're essentialThe link between taste buds, zinc, and picky eatingWhy hair mineral tests show the long game while blood work is a snapshotCommon mineral patterns seen in children with eczemaHow heavy metals disrupt gut microbes and fuel skin issuesThe mineral imbalances behind sleep struggles in kidsWhy parents' own mineral status affects mealtime stressThe reason some kids' multivitamins should avoid iron and copperHow minerals shape digestion, detox, and resilience in childrenTimestamps:[00:00] Introduction[05:47] Why minerals are the non-negotiable foundation for children's health[07:40] Hair testing versus blood work for understanding mineral balance in kids[13:05] Why picky eating in kids often comes down to mineral imbalances and taste buds[22:46] Eczema in kids and the role of mineral imbalances and heavy metals[39:43] How mineral imbalances and heavy metals disrupt children's sleep patterns[45:22] Choosing the right multivitamins for kids and why avoiding copper and iron matters[49:10] Making supplements part of daily family routinesResources Mentioned:Minerals & Gut Health Connection for Eczema Course | WebsiteGut and Minerals Free Resource | WebsitePicky Eaters Protocol | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Nina:Nerdy Notes with Nina Marie | SubstackDr. Nina Marie | WebsiteDr. Nina Marie | InstagramFind more from Amanda:Hormone Healing RD | InstagramHormone Healing RD | WebsiteHormone Healing RD | FacebookHormone Healing RD | YouTubeHormone Healing RD | TikTok

Screens train us to skim; books train us to think. In this urgent, hope-filled conversation, Doug Lemov (Teach Like a Champion) and Ginny make a compelling case for a childhood culture that is low tech, high text. You'll hear why book-reading is collapsing—what that's doing to kids' attention, imagination, and empathy—and exactly how to reverse it with simple habits: daily read-aloud (even with teens), real books you can annotate, and outdoor reading rituals that pair sunlight and birdsong with stories. Doug breaks down fluency's three pillars—accuracy, automaticity, and prosody—and explains why even picture books carry 50% more rare words than adult speech, rapidly expanding vocabulary and background knowledge (think the classic “baseball study”). You'll also learn why formative writing—quick, handwritten jot notes before discussion—supercharges comprehension (and beats laptop note-taking); why books are the optimal medium for deep thinking; and how to spot and fix disfluent reading. Finally, Doug demystifies the phonics vs. three-cueing debate and points parents to the investigative series changing laws nationwide: Sold a Story. If you want your kids to imagine vividly, read confidently, and engage the world with stamina and joy, this episode is your blueprint to trade scrolling for page-turning—on the porch, at the park, all childhood long.
