What kind of stories come to mind when you think of foster care? Many stories are filled with heartbreak, pain, and sorrow. But what if we could step in and see them turned into stories of hope? Hope Bridge is on a gospel-led mission to transform the foster care landscape in Ohio. We're here to raise awareness and empower churches and communities to step into action by supporting vulnerable children and families in their local communities. We’re certainly not the Author of these stories, and it’s true that we can't change the past, but we are called to be key characters in THE story that God has written for His creation. His is a story of redemption and restoration, a story of HOPE. In this podcast, we will share how we link arms with churches, county workers, foster families, and those in the community to rewrite the narrative for vulnerable children and families. We’ll be shining a light on stories of hope, redemption, and transformation and sharing practical ways that you can step in and get involved. Subscribe now, and together, let's make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Welcome to "ReStoried," a podcast by Hope Bridge.

Every July, our team takes a step back to look at where we've been and where we're headed. This year, that meeting didn't quite go the way we expected. We realized something important; our growth and referrals were outpacing what our staff could realistically handle. That made us stop and ask: How can we invite more people to come alongside us in this work. That's where The Bridge comes in. It's a new software we're launching that makes it super simple to get connected. Think of it as a hub where real needs get posted, and you can jump in to help meet them. Churches, organizations, and social workers can share needs, and volunteers can step up. If you've ever thought, “I'd love to help, I just don't know how,” this is your chance. The Bridge is all about connecting people who want to serve with people who need support. We're really excited about this, and we'd love for you to join us. In this Spiritual Formation episode, we're talking about how technology shapes our daily lives and what it looks like to set some healthy boundaries around it. With phones, TVs, and social media always at our fingertips, it's so easy to get distracted and miss out on the moments that really matter. This month, we challenged ourselves to try a few simple shifts, like no phones at the table, not scrolling before spending time with God or right before bed, and setting time limits on apps. We'll share what worked, what didn't, and how even small changes helped us be more present with God and with our families. Episode Highlights: How technology can easily distract us from what matters most Simple boundaries we tried: no phones at the table, no scrolling before bed, and starting the day with God first What we noticed when we limited screen time Ways tech boundaries can create more space for family and faith Small shifts that help us grow in love for God and others Find More on Hope Bridge/Links from this Episode: The Tech-Wise Family by Andy Crouch Rule Your Tech or It Will Rule You by Jedd Medefind Visit Our Website Follow us on Instagram Follow us on Facebook Foster Our Community Instagram
In this episode, we're talking with Kim Meeder: author, speaker, and co-founder of Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Bend, Oregon. Kim's story is full of redemption and purpose. After walking through her own childhood trauma, she created a space where broken kids and rescued horses could heal together. At Crystal Peaks, every session is one-on-one: one child, one horse, one leader. It's completely free for kids ages 6–18 and tailored to meet each child right where they are; whether that's through riding, gardening, crafting, or just connecting. The ranch exists to rescue horses, mentor kids, bring hope to families, and inspire others to do the same. Over the years, Kim and Troy have helped launch over 200 similar ministries around the world! In our conversation, Kim shares stories from the ranch, how healing happens through simple moments, and why she believes every life can be restored. We're back with another episode in our Spiritual Formation series, and this time we're exploring the quiet, but powerful, practice of solitude. In a culture that celebrates busyness and constant activity, solitude can feel counter-cultural, even uncomfortable. But solitude isn't simply about stepping away from noise or slowing down our schedules. It's about intentionally stepping toward God, making space to be fully present with Him. In this episode, we talk about what it means to “Be still,” how to resist the pull of distraction, and why solitude can be one of the most life-giving practices for our souls. If you're longing for a deeper connection with God in the midst of life's noise, this conversation will encourage you to slow down, be still, and truly meet with Him. In today's episode, we're talking about how foster care has impacted our families: the hard parts and the really good ones. Foster care is mission work, and like anything meaningful, it comes with its share of challenges and rewards. If you're curious about foster care or are already in it and looking for people who truly understand, this conversation is for you. We share how this journey has stretched us, grown our faith, and pushed us to rely on God more than ever. It's been refining in all the best (and hardest) ways. We believe we're all called to make disciples, and sometimes that looks like opening our homes to kids who need love and stability. Foster care has helped us develop tools we didn't know we needed, and we've seen so much growth, both in ourselves and our families. At the end of the day, God is good no matter what, and this experience has taught us to trust Him in deeper ways. This episode is part of our special July Replay Series, where we're revisiting some of our most meaningful and impactful conversations. In this episode, we dive into the crucial role foster families play in the reunification process. Our discussion aims to encourage foster families to embrace their part in the team effort required for successful reunification. We'll provide an overview of foster care, emphasizing why reunification is the primary goal despite common misconceptions. Many people struggle with the idea of children returning to their biological homes, but this is the cornerstone of foster care. Building relationships with caseworkers and biological families can seem daunting, yet it is essential for smoother, more effective reunification. These relationships not only improve outcomes for the children but also allow foster families to better advocate for the needs of both the children and their parents. We stress the importance of unity and shared goals among all parties involved, with the child's safety as the ultimate priority and reunification as the next. One frequent challenge for foster families is feeling excluded from the team, which can lead to misunderstandings with caseworkers. We'll explore strategies for foster families to strengthen their rapport with caseworkers and ensure their advocacy is seen as supportive rather than obstructive.Join us as we discuss how fostering collaboration and understanding can lead to better outcomes for everyone involved.Episode Highlights: How Foster Parents Can Support Reunification Being a part of the team Being an advocate Ways to support reunificationFind More on Hope Bridge:Family Registration Form Visit Our Website Follow us on InstagramFollow us on Facebook Foster Our Community Instagram Register for the FASD Workshop
We're bringing back this episode because it's especially fitting for summer. Maybe this season has felt heavy—hard to juggle new rhythms, tiring for your biological family, or filled with questions about whether foster care is still good for your home. This conversation is a timely reminder: foster care can be good for your family. It's not about dragging them through it, but leading them well—anchored in purpose and grace. What is the difference between dragging your biological family through the muck and mire of foster care versus leading them through it well? If you are a foster or adoptive parent, more than likely, you know what we are talking about when it comes to facing some adversity from the people who love you when you first share the news that you are becoming Foster Parents. Although it can sometimes be disheartening, we believe there is a way to confidently lead your family through this journey while mirroring the love of Jesus to those around you. In today's episode, you are getting a sneak peek into one of our breakout sessions from the Mobilize Ohio Conference titled “Dragging vs. Leading.” Our panel is made up of four women who collectively have a wealth of experience and knowledge from all different perspectives of the foster care journey. We hope the wisdom shared throughout this episode will give you the strength and knowledge to find a group of people who get you, even if you are still waiting for the people who love you to get on board. We encourage you to keep pressing forward on God's calling on your life despite any challenges you may face; you are touching more lives than just the kiddos who walk through your door. At Hope Bridge, two of our biggest priorities are supporting single moms and engaging the local church. But bringing those two things together isn't always simple. In this episode, we're discussing a sensitive but important topic: church hurt—specifically, how it affects single moms. This conversation is not meant to overgeneralize or place blame. We are incredibly grateful for the many churches we partner with that do amazing work to support families. At the same time, we also want to honor the stories of single moms who have felt excluded from ministries, overlooked for leadership, or disconnected from small groups. Sometimes, the hurt comes through unsolicited advice that, while well-intended, causes pain. Other times, it's not about what's said—but what isn't. The absence of acknowledgment or representation can leave single moms feeling invisible.God created us for community. Even when that community has caused hurt, the need for connection remains. We talk about the importance of continuing to seek out healthy church spaces, even after past wounds. Sometimes, God meets us most powerfully outside of a traditional church setting—but we have to be seeking Him. Church is meant to be a place of restoration, hope, and belonging. In this conversation, we explore how we can help the Church reflect that vision more fully—especially for single moms.Episode Highlights: Single Moms Church Hurt Church Community How to pursue healing Single Moms Program at Hope Bridge Find More on Hope Bridge:Check out our Single Moms Program July Empower U Registration Schedule Coffee with Mel!Link for Friendly Faces/Spiritual DevelopmentSingle Mom Connection Form Visit Our Website Follow us on InstagramFollow us on Facebook Foster Our Community Instagram

In this episode, Trisha White Priebe—an adult adoptee, writer, and speaker—joins the show to talk about something we don't always think about: how families who aren't part of the adoption or foster care world can still help their kids understand it. There are plenty of resources out there for adoptive families, but what about the parents whose kids have classmates or friends who are adopted or in foster care? How do those families start the conversation?Trisha shares practical, thoughtful ways to help kids build empathy and have respectful, age-appropriate conversations about adoption and foster care. She believes every child can benefit from learning how to talk about different kinds of families—and that those small conversations can make a big difference. With honesty, Trisha brings her own experience as an adoptee to the table, offering encouragement and hope to adoptees, birth families, and adoptive families. In this episode, we're excited to introduce Jen Zwick, the Family Support Specialist in the Single Moms Program at Hope Bridge. Jen shares her heart for walking alongside single mothers and highlights some of the challenges these families often face. Did you know that 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 are raised by a single mother? That's about 13 million children growing up without a father. In Ohio, nearly two-thirds of all children living in poverty are in single-mother or grandmother-led households. Poverty is often misunderstood as neglect due to issues like poor housing conditions or food insecurity, which can lead to increased involvement from child welfare systems. At Hope Bridge, we believe in stepping in before that happens—offering stable housing, supportive services, and practical help to moms facing crisis in our communities.Through our residential program, single moms (ages 18 and older) live in a safe, supportive home with their children for 9–12 months while working toward personal goals. We provide mentorship, help with education, budgeting, life skills, and healthy meal planning. Moms are also encouraged to connect with local churches and build community support. It's all about creating stability and equipping moms to thrive. We've also launched Empower U, a new skill-focused support group for single moms that meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Compassion Center. This is a space where moms can continue learning and growing with the support of others. We are currently looking for volunteers to get involved by teaching skills, providing meals, or helping with childcare. If you're interested, check out the links below to learn more and sign up.
