Send us a textOver 700 children enter the foster care system every single day. Think about that. Most are given a trash bag to carry their belongings... Think about that. Think about how it must feel to ask a stranger for their toothpaste. The overwhelming sad and difficult emotions for each of these babies, toddlers, and teens must feel every day. The youth are in these situations because of adults that have FAILED THEM. It DOES NOT have to be this way! Last year, we welcomed Comfortcases.org to New Orleans to pack cases filled with all of the personal items these kids need as they navigate this journey. 300 cases were packed, filled and sent HERE LOCALLY in South Louisiana! This year, I want to make it a LAW requiring it to be ILLEGAL to put these children's belongings into a trash bag. These babies deserve DIGNITY. So let's make that happen! In the coming days, I will create a CALL TO ACTION and petition for EVERYONE to sign and then, I will send it to my friends at New Orleans City Hall, Baton Rouge and beyond to get this on the table and FUNDED! The founder of Comfortcases.org, Rob Scheer sat down with me to talk about his and their mission to finally say for good- NO MORE TRASH BAGS! Join us as we make it our own mission to give dignity to these youth. Are you a Louisianian? Please join me in signing this petition to ban trash bags given to foster children. If you asked 10 people to define what hope is, you'd probably get 10 different definitions. We think we know what hope is, but do we really? Is hoping for something unrealistic? Are wishing and hoping the same thing? Can you manifest something into being through hope? These are just some of the questions Trudy and Lisa pose to University of Alberta Faculty of Education Associate Dean (Research) and professor Dr. Denise Larsen about her research into hope. Even if you're not a naturally hopeful person, Dr. Larsen tells us how we can build “hope skills” and how fostering hope in ourselves and others can change people, cities and communities for the better.Note: Dr. Larsen mentions an intervention activity conducted with international students. That activity was developed by University of Alberta Ph.D. candidate Chelsea Hobbs. Dr. Larsen also wished to acknowledge Dr. Doris Zhang.“Hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up.” - David Orr Read our blog: CroneCast.caShare your questions and comments at cronecast.ca/contact. Recently, Victoria Daylor, Dr. Cortney Gensemer, Dr. Russell Norris, and Dr. Linda Bluestein published a CME two-part series titled “Hope for Hypermobility - An Integrative Approach to Treating Symptomatic Joint Hypermobility”. We were able to sit down with Dr. Gensemer, Ms. Daylor, and Dr. Bluestein to discuss their research and the results. They share how the collaboration came about and the developmental process they went through. The co-authors reveal their intentions behind the articles, and three things they want people to know about symptomatic joint hypermobility (SJH). The panel of guests discuss what they see for the future of joint hypermobility and related conditions, and stress the importance of properly done research. Written to be accessible both for people with SJH and medical professionals, these articles may well be a defining reference for many people in the future! With limited time free access to Part 1 and Part 2 of this peer reviewed series, you will want to dive into these papers and share with others as soon as possible! . . . . . #Hypermobility #ChronicPain #ConnectiveTissueDisorder #JointSupport #MedicalResearch #JointPain #SymptomManagement #Healthcare #PatientEducation #DoctorPatientRelationship #HopeForHypermobility #KnowledgeIsPower #Education #Scientist #WomenInStem #DisabledInStem

The Adoption Connection | a podcast by and for adoptive parents
Parenting kids who have experienced trauma, loss and separation can be challenging. Finding strategies that heal and actually work provides hope to parents who are struggling, but these strategies can seem strange to others. Our parents, neighbors, friends, and family (maybe even that lady we see at church each week) have opinions, suggestions and perhaps even judgment about our new parenting strategies. This workshop will give us some tools to help our loved ones understand why we parent the way we do. Beth Smith Feger has over 20 years of experience in training and education. Since completing a Ph.D. in early childhood education in 2009, she has worked training teachers, parents and young people. She is a passionate life long learner and has co-written a text book for early childhood educators. She is currently the Director of Programs at Fostering Hope, an organization the equips and supports families and churches to care for children who have experienced trauma. She is also the mom to three kids, two adopted from foster care. She lives in Austin with her family and enjoys reading, swimming and Marvel movies. Jesus was a master of noticing needs. He saw the hurting, the helpless, the people everyone else seemed to overlook—but He didn't just see them, He did something about them. The more you look around, the more you'll notice that needs are everywhere. You can find them where you live, learn, work, and play. Seeing the needs, serving the needs, and sharing God's love while we do it is more than a weekend sermon—it should be a way of life. In 2016, Lilley and her husband became foster parents through the organization, Childhelp. In June 2019, Lilley and Wayne adopted their two foster sons and in July 2019, she gave birth to a daughter. Jen Lilley's creative prowess does not end when the director yells cut, she is also a singer and songwriter. Her music exudes the same sultry ferocity of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton, with Phil Spector's wall of sound treatment via Rosie Danvers and her 50-piece orchestra. AXS.com said, “Lilley conjures up the sound of a 1960s girl group and embodies the same essence of Amy Winehouse. She takes a nostalgic twist on a modern song that will remind you of what classic music sounds like and have you longing for the days of Motown." When Jen Lilley is not busy in front of a camera, or perfecting her vocals in studio, she can be found hosting her podcast, "Fostering Hope with Jen Lilley" to demystify the foster care system and encourage loving people to get involved in the cause. She is a true champion for charities. In addition to donating 100% of her music profits to create a neighborhood model of safe loving foster homes, she co-founded Christmas is Not Cancelled, Inc.: A marketing company that raises awareness and funds for amazing causes and nonprofits while giving participants the chance to win huge prizes! The next Christmas is Not Cancelled event is coming up THIS MONTH. In fact, Comfort Cases is partnering with Jen and her team for a "Christmas is Not Cancelled Packing Party" at the end of July. We will be packing up 2022 backpacks filled with school supplies to deliver to students in need in the Washington, DC Metro area. As a teenager, Jen garnered the National Educators Award for her work in Guatemala. She is known for advocating children's rights and supports charities that focus on protecting children against physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking, and the world water crisis. Truly selfless, she is a foster and adoptive parent herself and is a celebrity ambassador for the child abuse and treatment organization Child help, Project Orphans, ECPAT, Olive Crest, The Dave Thomas Foundation, The Thirst Project, The Los Angeles Mission, Oneless, A21, Children of the Night, and the Innocent Justice Foundation.
