Think you can out-exercise a bad diet? Think again. The truth is, the more you work out, the hungrier you get. And you might be surprised to learn just how much effort it takes to burn off those "small" treats. Ever indulged in a Hold The Cone from Trader Joe's? Just 90 calories, but did you know you'd need to run a mile in under nine minutes or walk for 25 minutes just to burn off one mini cone? And let's not even start on heavier meals. A single pizza or a meal at Canes? That's up to 1,800 calories, and no amount of exercise can offset that in a day, considering everything else you eat. The solution? Pair your workouts with a solid nutrition plan and a basic understanding of calories. It's not just about burning calories; it's about understanding them.

Do you find yourself working out intensely and not seeing the results you expect to see? This month we sat down with the Godmother of the Zero Dark Thirty Krewe, Kristi App. Though Kristi swam competitively throughout her childhood and college, she joined Roux Fitness at almost 40 years old following 20 years of inconsistent workouts. While her initial goal when she joined us was to lose weight, she quickly got hooked on seeing her strength numbers improve. Like with her swim team, Roux offers Kristi the camaraderie that she didn't find while working out on her own. In addition to being a Roux member, Kristi is a self-proclaimed lifelong Stacked Coaching client. Kristi's nutrition journey began as a participant in some of Roux's nutrition challenges and then continued with Emily for individual coaching (even pre-Stacked). And unlike some of us, Kristi had an "ah ha" moment during quarantine and her nutrition and fitness clicked. She lost weight and was feeling great, despite the fact that she was no longer working with Emily. However, once things opened back up she began to see some changes in the reverse direction. Kristi made the decision to reach out to Claire so she could get some guidance on incorporating nutrition and wellness into her everyday life. Kristi is now learning to balance her social life with her nutrition goals. So, how hard is it for Kristi to get up each day to work out with the Zero Dark Thirty Krewe? Not very- working out sets the tone for her day and by 6:30am she can already check one success off her list. Kristi is a great example of when you choose yourself and we are thrilled that she is our member of the month for August 2021!
