I'm delighted to welcome back coach and coach developer, Dr Jamie Taylor in this episode. Jamie's interests lie in performance enhancement in sport, specifically in coaching, coach development, high performance and talent development. Jamie is Assistant Professor in Elite Performance at Dublin City University and a senior coach developer at Grey Matters, a company specialising in performance enhancement and coaching development for individuals, sporting/cultural organisations and systems. In this episode, Jamie and I discuss his new book, co-edited with Prof Dave Collins, entitled ‘Sport Skill Acquisition: Integrating Theory and Practice'. The book carefully and critically considers the expanding knowledge of skill acquisition and motor control, with a focus on application, examining three major theoretical perspectives that dominate the field: cognitive, ecological dynamics, and predictive processing. Jamie and Prof Dave Collins use their combined wisdom as coaches, coach developers, and expert sport psychology practitioners to offer practical advice on blending theoretical approaches, using examples from a variety of sports and activities. For those looking to improve their work with performers, Sport Skill Acquisition provides a road map for choosing the best approach for each unique situation to develop skills for optimal sport performance.

Avalonia XPF This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by Avalonia XPF, a binary-compatible cross-platform fork of WPF, enables WPF apps to run on new platforms with minimal effort and maximum compatibility. Show Notes Uno Platform started off as the core UI framework. UI and non UI, because as part of Uno Platform itself, you have some non UI APIs like accelerometer and like these device sensors that you can use in a cross platform manner. So that part is the core framework, which is the backbone to everything that we built on top of it. — Martin Zikmund Welcome to The Modern .NET Show! Formerly known as The .NET Core Podcast, we are the go-to podcast for all .NET developers worldwide and I am your host Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, Martin Zikmund joined us to talk about Uno Platform and how it's way more than just a UI framework. It has support for APIs such as reading device sensors like accelerometers, too. But the bread and butter of Uno Platform, like AvaloniaUI, comes from the fact that you can use the familiar WPF syntax and either the new MVUX architecture or the more familiar to most MVU architecture to build your apps. Yeah, ideally it should work on any Linux where .NET runs. And we are currently using GTK as the underlying framework that simplifies our like that access to Linux specific APIs. So there is kind of a middleware layer of GTK. And you know, that makes the development for us much easier because it already has those shims for different versions of Linux and so on built in. — Martin Zikmund So let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in dotnet new podcast and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. I am delighted to be joined by Dr Mike Ashford and Dr Loel Collins in this episode. Both Mike and Loel lecture at Edinburgh University. Loel is the Programme Director for MSc Performance Coaching and Development and Mike lectures in Sports Coaching and Performance. They are also both coach developers at Grey Matters, a company specialising in performance enhancement and coaching development for individuals, sporting/cultural organisations and systems. And they've written a paper along with Prof Dave Collins and Dr Jamie Taylor called “It depends coaching – The most fundamental, simple and complex principle or a mere copout?”. In this paper, the authors set out the arguments for Professional Judgement and Decision-Making (PJDM - the scientific representation of it depends coaching) as a genuine construct in coaching and, therefore, coach development. They do this through a critical consideration of three “pillars” or core constructs of PJDM. Namely, the concept of nested planning, the nature and use of knowledge in coaching, and the expression of expertise in coaching utilising a PJDM approach.
