Daniel Rinehart, Louis Ragone, and Ryan Norwood join Michael Fink to talk about Howard's new deal, and the Parker trade to open the show. (Ryan had hardware issues and had to drop out.) Mike talks about the fans not being sympathetic towards player injuries. It's common for these players to have the injuries pile up during the season and hamstring problems linger. It's the nature of the injury. Ryan feels Davante gets hurt too often. We then talk about the Thomas Morstead signing. Mike would prefer a 26-year-old as opposed to a 36-year-old. Mike opens up the topic of Brady and Sean Peyton who reportedly were targets of Stephen Ross during the offseason and the timing of Flores's lawsuit nixed that approach. There's the possibility it's revisited at a later date. We answer a few listener's questions. (Which can always be sent to Mike @ OMikeyboy@twitter.com or through Direct Message through Facebooks Messenger.) We talk draft and WR and RB are discussed. A listener asks if Hunt and Eichenberg will be okay on the right side of the line. Lou is complimentary towards the number of holes Grier has filled this offseason and mentions it's almost impossible to fill every area of need. Another listener asks simply where we rank in the division. Lou thinks we can compete with the Bills. Are we a playoff team? Lou and Daniel think we are and they explain why. We walk through the AFCE and talk about who each team has lost and gained.   Draft Kings Disclaimer: If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) (IL/IN/MI/NJ/PA/WV/WY), 1-800-NEXT STEP (AZ), 1-800-522-4700 (CO/NH), 888-789-7777/visit http://ccpg.org/chat (CT), 1-800-BETS OFF (IA), 1-877-770-STOP (7867) (LA), 877-8-HOPENY/text HOPENY (467369) (NY), visit OPGR.org (OR), call/text TN REDLINE 1-800-889-9789 (TN), or 1-888-532-3500 (VA). 21+ (18+ NH/WY). We are meeting with the CEO of Main Squeeze Juice Co., Thomas Nieto. Main Squeeze Juice Company, based out of New Orleans, LA, has been franchising its fast-casual juice and smoothie bar concept since 2017. Main Squeeze's mission is to make healthy easier, and the company's nutritionist-designed, the superfood-centric menu does exactly that by offering a daily source of plant-based nutrition packed with natural and quick energy.  We will discuss how Main Squeeze Juice Co. has been paired with Pro Bowl Punter Thomas Morstead since 2019, making the brand a pioneer for franchises partnering with professional athletes. Thomas Morstead decided to become a partner of the New Orleans-based juice and smoothie bar because nutrition is one of his top priorities, and he wanted to share the importance of a healthy diet with his fans. In Super Bowl XLIV, he executed an onside kick that the Saints recovered and parlayed into a touchdown. That play helped to take a 13-10 lead. The Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl. In addition, in 2014, Thomas and his wife Lauren started What You Give Will Grow. It is a foundation committed to improving the lives of those in need. Above all there is a strong focus on children and cancer initiatives, in New Orleans and the Gulf South communities. ''Before he earned a Super Bowl ring and started a foundation, he had to survive middle school.'' The Middle School Rules of Thomas Morstead shares how Thomas learned about his cultural roots, handled being bullied for his appearance, and dealt with the disappointment of not making the high school varsity soccer team. Meyer highlights that he is looking for characters that resemble the remarkable qualities of two souls that left us too soon. Meyer walked on as a punter at the University of Wisconsin and he shares how his playing experience has transferred to coaching and recruiting kickers as a Division 1 special teams college analyst. Early in his coaching career, Meyer is taking lessons learned from college teammates Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks) Monte Ball (Denver Broncos) and what he learned from top punters at camps like Thomas Morstead, Tommy Townsend, and many others. Not only does he have 4 seasons under his belt coaching at the highest level of college football, but he has deep relationships with the best punters and kickers in the game. With Cam being the son of Minnesota Vikings legend Steve Jordan, the guys rank the greatest father-son combinations in NFL history (01:19).We then move to our interview with Cam, where he discusses a wide array of topics: why Cam knows the impact he can have on young people’s lives with his platform (11:37); why he feels blessed to have called New Orleans his home for the past 10 years (13:19); his podcast with former teammate Mark Ingram, and the origin of his iconic “levels” sack dance (14:28); being on the precipice of 100 career sacks (16:27); losing to the Buccaneers in the playoffs, and why he feels the better team lost that day (18:56); why Jameis Winston is “up next” for the Saints at quarterback (24:37); growing up with a Pro Bowl tight end for a dad, and how that shaped him as an athlete and man (25:43); becoming a state champion discus thrower in high school, and how that path helped him become a better competitor in football (28:37); how he went from a “portly” kid trying to be the next Allen Iverson, to an All-Pro defensive end destined for the New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor (32:03); playing his college football at Cal, and knowing he was surrounded by NFL-level talent right away (37:15); what Cal needs to do to be a real threat to win the Pac-12 (38:58); who he thinks is the hardest offensive lineman he has ever had to go up against (39:48); why he enjoys sacking Matt Ryan more than any other quarterback, and why he’d never accept him as a teammate (41:18); the toughest quarterback to take down in the NFL, and why he thinks Cam Newton still has gas left in the tank (43:33); Will Smith’s impact on him as a young player in the league (45:51); why he wants Akiem Hicks to return to New Orleans (46:57); why he calls Mark Ingram a “righteous warrior” (48:05); why “wild card” is the best way to describe Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (50:00); his admiration for both Wil Lutz and Thomas Morstead (50:55); and why he’d love to play another 6 years in the NFL with the Saints (52:11).Then, TommyFreezePops is joined by Thom Cunningham for his weekly check-in with the experts from VegasInsider.com (56:31 – 01:03:39). God calls us to two highly important responsibilities: to love our Him with all of our being, and to treat our neighbors as we would want to be treated. By doing so, we can help turn our world into a better place, and appreciate the beauty of God’s creation. Travel expert Rick Steves has seen, tasted, and experienced many different cultures, and of all the memories he’s made and souvenirs he’s collected, he believes none are as important as the broadened perspective his adventures have helped him gain. Rick’s faith has deepened after seeing how God works in various cultures of humanity, and worshipping with different people has helped him see the true value of different communities and faith traditions. Thomas Morstead, a punter for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, applied a mantra early on in life that no matter what, he would always give things his best shot, and leave the rest up to God. Following that principle has led Thomas to major success in the NFL, and has helped him use his influence to impact lives through his What You Give Will Grow Foundation.    Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Past interview: Joanne Rogers Upcoming interview: Ben Higgins   Rick Steves Rick's public television program San Juan Islands Guatemala RickSteves.com   Thomas Morstead What You Give Will Grow Foundation Super Bowl XLIV Coach Payton What You Give Will Grow American Cancer Society American Heart Association Good Friday The Middle School Rules of Thomas Morstead Interview Quotes: “I think it carbonates your whole world when you get out there and you realize, Wow, different people find different truths to be self-evident and God-given. It makes you less fearful. It's a beautiful thing. “ - Rick Steves “We're a great country, but we're four percent of this planet, and there's ninety-six percent of humanity out there. And it really makes sense to get to know the rest of the world.” - Rick Steves “I love to meet other people of faith. And I love to share my faith with people who have no faith. Very fundamentally, we are children trying to figure out our relationship with God and trying to get close to our Heavenly Father.” - Rick Steves “But once in a while, it's good for me to get out there and worship with people who don't have the same hymnal, who don't have the same accent, who don't have the same blonde hair. It's exciting. And it's a beautiful thing. It's a celebration. I would imagine God likes to see that, too.” - Rick Steves ”For me, the most beautiful souvenir is bringing home a broader perspective.” - Rick Steves  “Travel helps you appreciate how many people over how many centuries with how many styles of faith have praised God. We have a deep seated need to just to have quiet time to be with our creator, with our Heavenly Father.” - Rick Steves “I've always attacked things and tried to do the best I can at whatever I'm doing, and that's just opened up other opportunities that you didn't even know would be out there.” - Thomas Morstead “Accountability always, always rests on yourself and not on anybody else. And so I think when you start to live your life that way, it's a very quick way to get to some arbitrary thing called happiness when your life isn't dictated by others.” - Thomas Morstead “I just think if you're surrounded by negativity all the time, you're going to be negative. And if you're surrounded by positivity, you're going to be positive. And so I think everyone should guard their heart.” - Thomas Morstead ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What’s Good? The Aussie Roundtable features two of college football’s best punters. Max Duffy is the punter for the Kentucky Wildcats, and Lou Hedley is the punter for the Miami Hurricanes. Both are statistically in the NCAA Top 10 for gross punting, Hedley averages 47.5 yards (4th), and Duffy is averaging 45.8 yards (9th). Both were named semi-finalists for the 2020 Ray Guy Award, an annual award given to college football’s top punter. Duffy is the reigning Recipient of the Ray Guy Award. The two other finalists in 2019 were Dane Roy (University of Houston Cougars) and Sterling Hofrichter (Syracuse Orange.) (Fun fact: Hofrichter is the current punter for the Atlanta Falcons averaging 41.6 yards through 8 games of the 2020 NFL Season, and holding peaches for Younghoe Koo, who is dominating his first season with the Falcons.) Back to Duffy, he is a former pro in the Australian Rules Football league. Hedley is averaging 47.5 yards per punt this season which is nearly an 8% increase in distance over his first season with the Hurricanes. He is also the holder for Jose Borregales who was recently named Lou Groza Semifinalist, which is awarded to college football’s best place kicker. (The only other placekicker-punter duo to be named the same awards is Jake Camarda and Jack Podlesny of the University of Georgia.) Lou made his way to Coral Gables by way of the City College of San Francisco where he played JUCO. Let’s talk more about awards. Hedley has been named ACC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season. Punting in a conference where Pressley Harvin III (Georgia Tech) is having a breakout season averaging 47.65 yards per punt, Hedley has received the award after standing out in victories over Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh, games in which he averaged over 50 yard per punt. Duffy was named SEC Special Teams Player of the week for his performance vs. Mississippi State after having a game where he averaged nearly 45 years per punt. Digging deeper, he fired a moon rocket 75 yards on a free kicker after a safety which was really impressive pinning Mike Leach’s offense on their own 16. Both have aspirations to play in the NFL, and this roundtable episode covers topics of growth in college. Hedley shares how he has matured, becoming more familiar with the game which have allowed him to increase his gross yardage nearly 8% year over year. Duffey who is studying for his masters in Psychology shares insight on his mental game. The two punters are also good friends who help one another. Their friendship spans back to Prokick Australia where Nathan Chapman develops punters who play college football in America. Duffy drew insight from listening to the Podcast with Thomas Morstead, who is the punter for the New Orleans saints. You can find that episode here: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWIIAxJ_48k Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/28yUdlW2w3LYuJtRtUCeOr?si=R3VdTcUJRUGLv9BuFaYqQg Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/simple-kicking/id1521447540?i=1000499982952 Google Play: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jack-fox-nfl-punter-detroit-lions/id1521447540?i=1000499982952 The network of kickers and punters is small, and Duffy shares how he and Keith Duncan are friends. Duncan is the kicker for the Iowa Hawkeyes who was named a 2019 Lou Groza Finalist. He stopped by the Special Teams Lounge with Jake Pinegar, who is the kicker for the Penn State Nittany Lions. You can hear that episode here: Also, the conversation brought up fellow Aussie Punters: Brad Wing, LSU, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Jamie Keehn, LSU. Humans like Thomas Morstead are rare. He is the current Punter for the New Orleans Saints. He has many roles on the team; team captain, holder for Wil Lutz' extra points and field goals, onside kick specialist, and a "big brother" to many of his teammates because he is the second oldest player on the roster behind Drew Brees! Morstead was a 5th round draft choice for the New Orleans Saints in 2009 from Southern Methodist University (SMU). This is rare for two reasons: 1) punters aren't typically drafted, and 2) punters aren't typically drafted early! Finding out in the Podcast, Morstead received an academic scholarship for mechanical engineering at the Lyle School of Engineering. The consistency of his career is another rare attribute of Morstead. He has missed 2 games (injury during 2015 season) over the last 12 seasons. Staying healthy, maintaining form, and constantly performing, Morstead has had an illustrious stint as one of the best NFL punters to ever play the game. Put it this way, there have been 108 teams who have played in the Super Bowl, and 54 of them are Champions. Historically, in the history of the Super Bowl game have punter also kicked an onside kick, an onside kick that was successful? I believe there is only one, and that is Thomas Morstead. You can hear the story of the Super Bowl XLIV "Ambush" onside kick from John Carney here: Youtube: https://youtu.be/IpdNN5FAXOc Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7vqUZ2o0qylla5J7sV7TTw?si=F0bVu-JAQiOyK4JUjcmV0w Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/simple-kicking/id1521447540?i=1000487772542 Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/simplekicking/episode-7-john-carney-nfl-kicker-san-diego-chargers-super-bowl-xliv-kicker-training-pro-bowl Morstead’s punting statistics are remarkable. 71.5% of his punts (63 punts) from the plus area of the field (Scoring side of the field) have been downed inside the 20. Also, 176 of his career punts from the 21-50 yardline have also been downed inside the 20 yardline representing a 39.8% IN20 percentage. That means his defense takes over with a lot of green grass behind it. Continuing with his rarity, Morstead is an author. A Pearland, TX native, Morstead co-authored a children's sports book called "The Middle School Rules of Thomas Morstead" with Sean Jensen. The book can be purchased online or in a Target store. Thomas and his wife, Lauren, have a foundation named, What You Give Will Grow (WYGWG), which according to the foundation's website: "The mission of What You Give Will Grow is to improve the lives of those in need through support of local causes and organizations in the New Orleans and Gulf South communities, with a strong focus on children’s charities and cancer initiatives." Please order the book as proceeds from the sales of the book benefit WYGWG. Finally, Thomas Morstead has given of his time and energy helping other kickers and punters to grow in their craft. Currently the New Orleans Saints have a practice squad punter named Blake Gillikin from Penn State. Also, he attends Kohl's Kicking Camps annually coaching up campers. Over a four-decade career as an NFL agent, Mr. Steinberg has negotiated over $4 billion in contracts. He has an NFL Record 8-time 1st Overall Draft Picks, and 64 total First Round Draft Picks. He shares the similar mindsets that all of the elite athletes have: a quiet mind. Check out the podcast! The Saints carry high praise yet again this offseason as ESPN ranks New Orleans highly among teams built for future success. Exploring best and worst-case scenarios for Saints QB situation in 2020. A look at one of the best special teams units in the league. The Saints have a stacked roster. built around Drew Brees. But can it sustain after him? Experts think so. Michael Thomas, Cam Jordan, Emmanuel Sanders, Alvin Kamara, and many more playmakers and leaders like Demario Davis and Malcolm Jenkins lead the charge behind why the Saints are expected to have success even after the once dreaded change at signal caller. Blake Gillikin may have some crazy college stats, but he's very unlikely to unseat Thomas Morstead as the Saints' punter. Previewing the landscape of one of the best specialist units in the NFL. What are the best and worst outcomes for the Saints QB situation in 2020 that could have a lasting effect into 2021 and replacing Drew Brees? Big implications await depending on how much visibility both Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston get, which is aided by the lack of preseason this year. We also start a look at the Saints offense line, which continues on Friday. Arguably the two most important plays in the history of the New Orleans Saints came on special teams. On September 25, 2006, safety Steve Gleason blocked an Atlanta Falcons punt, producing the Saints' first touchdown in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. It was the fulfillment of a promise that the Saints would return to New Orleans after the hurricane decimated the city and forced the team to play in San Antonio and Baton Rouge the year prior– but it wasn't a Super Bowl.Three and a half years later, down 10-6 at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts, a decision was made in the Saints' locker room that would shock the world, change the momentum of the game and lead to the Saints' first Super Bowl victory ever: Sean Payton ordered punter Thomas Morstead to start the second half with a surprise onside kick.Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson and Dan Wetzel sit down with Morstead almost nine years after that day to discuss how it happened: what transpired over halftime in that locker room that led to that risky decision and what was it like being one of the only people in the world who knew what was about to transpire.Be sure to visit Yahoo Sports later in the week for videos and articles about Morstead's famous kick as we provide tons of Super Bowl content heading into Super Bowl XLIII.
