Welcome to Episode 99 of Music Talks, it's a significant one with a very special guest. The guest in question is Kevin Clement who amongst other things is the host of the brilliantly named radio show ‘Mysterious Debris' on Rockin' the Suburbs Radio. Kevin is special to me because prior to starting Music Talks I did some pilot episodes with my dear friend Jesse Jackson as a co-host under the name ‘Teatime with Terry' (I thought that was a great name until somebody said they thought it was a golf podcast). The original plan was that we would have friends of mine or Jessie's as our ‘guinea pigs' to test out the format. Jesse was good enough to post the first couple of episodes on Setlustingbruce.com at which point an email arrived from Kevin saying, ‘like the format and love to be on the show'! Believe me I can still remember the excitement

It's Monday, June 24th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Catholic man imprisoned for accidentally stepping on Quran Since April 27th, a Catholic man has been jailed under blasphemy against Islam charges in Lahore, Pakistan for inadvertently stepping out of his rickshaw onto some papers said to be pages of the Quran, reports Morning Star News. Dennis Albert, a 35-year-old rickshaw driver, was booked under one section of Pakistan's Muslim blasphemy laws that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and another law that mandates life in prison if the Quran has been defiled. The Lahore police arrested him on the complaint of Mubeen Ilyas, a Muslim passerby who alleged he saw Albert standing on some pages barefoot near a rickshaw, and that after closely looking at them, he found that they were Islamic scriptures. According to Open Doors, Pakistan is the 7th most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Presidential debate set for Thursday night President Joe Biden is hunkered down with aides at Camp David for several days to get ready to debate rival Donald Trump, who is eschewing traditional preparation and instead holding informal policy discussions between campaign stops, report Reuters. The face-off in Atlanta, at 9:00 p.m. ET this Thursday will be the earliest presidential debate in modern U.S. history and a critical event for both candidates. Biden, 81, and former president Trump, 78, are neck-and-neck in national opinion polls, with a considerable slice of the electorate still undecided five months before the November 5th vote. Washington Gov. stockpiles Abortion Kill Pill if Trump is re-elected In preparation for “The resistance to a new Trump administration,” Washington's Democratic Governor Jay Inslee is stockpiling Abortion Kill Pills, reports ThePostMillennial.com. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against a challenge to Biden's Food and Drug Administration which allowed the Abortion Kill Pill to be sent through the mail without an in-person doctor consultation, leaders of the Democratic Party are preparing in case a new Trump administration rescinds the approval or uses the 1873 Comstock Act to criminalize mailing the drug across state lines. According to a New York Times article, Governor Inslee's stockpile of the Abortion Kill Pill is locked away in a state warehouse. Inslee is one of at least five Democratic governors who have established stockpiles of Mifepristone. The others are the governors of California, Massachusetts, New York, and Oregon. Tennessee governor calls for 30 days of prayer and fasting in July In contrast to the radical leftist antics of the Washington Democratic State Governor, Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee made a great decision. In what has been described as an “historic gesture,” Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill calling for 30 days of prayer and fasting beginning July 1 in the Volunteer State. Tennessee House Joint Resolution 0803 asks the people of the state “to seek God's hand of mercy and healing on Tennessee.” A letter signed by Tennessee state Senator Mark Pody and Representative Monty Fritts accompanying the resolution invites “those who are physically able and spiritually inclined to do so to join in a 30-day season of prayer and intermittent fasting for the month of July as a means of humbling ourselves to receive God's grace, mercy, and blessing in Tennessee and in our Nation.” The language of the legislators is reminiscent of 2 Chronicles 7:14 in which God says, “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Couple discovers abandoned newborn A Katy, Texas couple was shocked on Saturday, June 15th, while out for a family walk, to discover an abandoned newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached, reports FaithWire.com. Daniela Fedele told KHOU-TV that she and her husband noticed a towel on the ground, as her 3-year-old biked toward it, and immediately realized a baby was wrapped inside. FEDELE: “I noticed two little feet moving. My husband was right behind me with the dogs, and I yelled to my husband. ‘A baby, a baby!' And then my husband [was] like, ‘Call 911!' And that's what we did.” They moved the baby out of the heat and into a shaded area while waiting for police. FEDELE: “Once my husband went ahead and picked up the baby, he found the nearest tree right there at that house down the street. He found a little shade.” Fedele said she's in shock over the ordeal, and is struggling to understand why someone would leave the child. FEDELE: “This image has been going on through my head so many times. How can you do that? I was shocked. I was mad. I was upset.” Ultimately, Fedele said she's grateful her family went for a walk and discovered the baby. FEDELE: “I don't know [what] made us go for a walk this morning. We usually do, but sometimes, you know, you just don't want to do it, things happen. But, this morning, we're, like, ‘No let's go ahead and get out.'” I know Who made them go for a walk. The answer is clear. Almighty God Himself, in His compassionate providence, prompted them to go on that walk. Psalm 115:3 says, “Our God is in Heaven; He does whatever pleases Him.” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the news of the baby's discovery. GONZALEZ: “The baby was a newborn. Still had fresh placenta on the baby. So, it was freshly born this morning. I praised her. I said, ‘You were in the right place at the right time.' The two witnesses that were thankfully walking on the trail, with their child and their dogs, were blessing.” According to a video taken from a neighbor's Ring camera on their doorbell, just two minutes before Danielle Fidele and her husband discovered the helpless baby girl, a young, slim Hispanic or White male with a fair complexion and black hair placed the baby, wrapped in the blanket on the ground and then ran away. According to the Houston Chronicle, the man, if identified, could face child abandonment charges. When KHOU-TV interviewed Brittney Barnes, a neighbor, she said this. BARNES: “It's still a little disheartening that the baby got left. It's hot. Somebody must have been going through something to have left their child there. But to find out that the baby was okay was a reliever.” The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the baby was found in good condition and will remain hospitalized as they try to locate her family. Fedele urged any young couple who feel trapped by a new baby to consider better options. FEDELE: “You can drop it off at a fire station, a police station, a hospital. But don't leave the baby!” Indeed, under the Baby Moses law, named after the baby rescued from the floating basket in the Nile River in Exodus 2:10, anyone who feels they are unable to care for a newborn younger than 60 days can drop off the child at a Safe Haven and avoid prosecution. As Daniela Fedele pointed out, Safe Havens include places like hospitals or fire stations. But the baby must be handed to an employee at that Safe Haven. 11 Worldview listeners donated $2,020 And finally, toward our $63,000 goal by this past Saturday, June 22nd – the three-week mark of our month-long fundraiser, 11 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate to help fund our 6-member team for another fiscal year. It's Friday, June 21st, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Armenian Christian man received 10-year prison sentence in Iran After losing a court appeal in early June, Armenian Hakop Gochymayan received a 10-year prison sentence for allegedly participating in Christian activities in Iran, reports International Christian Concern. Gochymayan and his wife, Elisa, who is of Iranian descent and has family in Iran, were detained near Tehran in August 2023. In a report from Barnabas Aid, the couple was “placed in solitary confinement and subjected to intense psychological torture.” Hebrews 13:3 says, “Don't forget those who are in prison. Remember them as though you were in prison with them. And don't forget those who are suffering. Remember them as though you were suffering with them.” Authorities in Pardis, Iran, arrested the couple, who were in the country visiting friends and family as they dined at an acquaintance's home. Reportedly, the Armenian man had several copies of the New Testament, written in the Persian language of Farsi, and had attended multiple churches during his stay. In an attempt to dissuade conversions, it is illegal in Iran to speak to non-Christians about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to have Bibles written in Farsi, which is the nation's official language. According to Open Doors, Iran is the ninth most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un sign pact in China's shadow Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a new pact Wednesday that includes a pledge of mutual defense if either is attacked, reports NBC News. The agreement was sealed at a summit in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, during a rare visit by Putin to the reclusive nuclear-armed state as both countries face growing confrontations with the West. The BBC noted that the real power in the region was not in Pyongyang, nor did it want to be. Putin and Kim were bonding on China's doorstep. While North Korean artillery would be a shot in the arm for Putin's war effort, swapping missile technology for it would not exactly be a great deal. And Putin might realize it's not worth annoying China, which buys Russian oil and gas, and remains a crucial ally in a world that has isolated him. Pyongyang needs China even more. It's the only other country Kim Jong Un visits. Anywhere between a quarter to a half of North Korea's oil comes from Russia, but at least 80% of its business is with China. Megachurch pastor Robert Morris resigns over moral failure Megachurch pastor Robert Morris, the 62-year-old founder of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, resigned after Cindy Clemishire accused him of sexually abusing her over multiple years in the 1980s beginning when she was 12, reports The Christian Post. Morris had admitted that he had engaged in "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady" while he was a pastor at another church in his early 20s. But he did not name his accuser or disclose her age at the time the abuse began. 1 Timothy 3:2 and 7 says, “Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach. … He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.” In the announcement of Morris' resignation, Gateway Church elders said they have retained the law firm of Haynes & Boone, LLP, to "conduct an independent, thorough, and professional review of the report of past abuse to ensure we have a complete understanding of the events from 1982-1987." In their statement, the elders wrote, “Regretfully, prior to Friday, June 14, the elders did not have all the facts of the inappropriate relationship between Morris and the victim, including her age at the time and the length of the abuse. The elders' prior understanding was that Morris's extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry, was with ‘a young lady' and not abuse of a 12-year-old child.” However, Cindy Clemishire claims that in 2007 “at least one elder had specific notice that I was sexually abused beginning when I was 12 years old.” One ripple effect is that the Texas-based Daystar Television Network, one of the largest Christian television networks in the world, has removed all programming featuring Robert Morris. German shot put athlete gives glory to God German athlete Yemisi Ogunleye won the bronze medal in the shot put competition at the European Athletics Championships in Rome with a throw of 61 feet, reports Evangelical Focus. After winning the silver medal at the World Championships in Glasgow in March 2024, she has become one of the leading names in her discipline. After competing, she said, “I gave it my all.” In addition to her sporting career, the athlete also openly talks about her Christian faith and participates in a Gospel choir. On social media she wrote, “Thank you for the many prayers. Is God good? All the time!” Psalm 29:2 says, “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.” 8 Worldview listeners donated $3,390 And finally, toward our $63,000 goal by this Saturday, June 22nd – the three-week mark of our month-long fundraiser, 8 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate to help fund our 6-member team for another fiscal year. The exhibition, which is on view through January 28, 2024, was organized by Jeffrey De Blois. Nguyen was a recipient of a 2023 Guggenheim fellowship, and has exhibited at museums such as MoMA PS1, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Factory Contemporary Arts Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and more. Ep. 163 features Jammie Holmes. Born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Jammies Holmes (b. 1984) is known for his paintings that portray intimate and poignant scenes of distinctly American communities, families, and traditions. Holmes draws heavily on his own recollections to depict the stories and experiences of Black life in the deep American South, capturing moments of celebration and struggle. The artist, who works intuitively and without formal artistic training, creates expressive tableaux that incorporate portraiture, symbols, text, and objects to reveal universal truths through personal narratives. Jammie Holmes is a self-taught painter. Following his graduation from high school, Holmes spent more than a decade working in an oil field. He relocated to Dallas in 2016. I have to preface this by saying that I have no inside information related to my prediction. Sometimes in life we find ourselves down or hurt when our expectations aren't met or things don't go the way we thought they would. On the other hand, things can go well and we may still be faced with negative emotions. Navigating the blues looks different for everyone, but guest Katara Patton shares some practical advice and tips from her own experiences with hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy to help us navigate our mental health on this episode of God Hears Her. About Our Guest: Katara Washington Patton is a Senior Editor at Our Daily Bread Publishing, and the author of eight books, including 5-Minute Devotional Book for Women and Navigating the Blues: Where to Turn When Worry, Anxiety, or Depression Steal Your Hope. Patton is a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana. She and her husband, Derrick, reside on the South Side of Chicago. They have one daughter, Kayla. She is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. As much as possible, she tries to enjoy a Zumba class and a competitive game of Scrabble to keep her life balanced. Notes and Quotes: “I expected life to be high. . . I had a family who loved me. . . Life is not always high.” —Katara Patton “The only energy I had was to go to work and go to bed. One day I made a deal with myself that if I go to bed today, then I have to call a therapist tomorrow.” —Katara Patton “When you describe the numbness, a lot of people resonate with that.” —Katara Patton “We can find it hard to get out of bed even when life is good!” —Elisa Morgan “You have to take it one moment at a time. You don't have to scale the whole mountain at once, just take it one step at a time.” —Katara Patton “Most of the time your friends and people do want to help, they just don't know how.” —Katara Patton “Look at Elijah's story! He showed a lot of signs of depression and God gave him very practical advice. Take a rest, have some food!” —Katara Patton “You need to allow yourself to feel your emotions and let others help you.” —Katara Patton Verses: 1 Kings 19 Elijah's story Luke 5:17–39 John 11:35 “Jesus wept.” Links: Navigating the Blues by Katara Patton: https://www.amazon.com/Navigating-Blues-Anxiety-Depression-Steals/dp/1640702075 https://www.mentalhealth.gov/ Call or text 988 for mental health aid in the case of an emergency God Hears Her website: https://www.godhearsher.org/ God Hears Her newsletter sign-up: https://www.godhearsher.org/signup Subscribe on iTunes! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast Elisa's Instagram: elisa morgan author Eryn's Instagram: eryneddy
Ronald Dominique confessed to raping and murdering 23 boys and men between the ages of 16 and 46 between 1997 and 2006 across six Louisiana parishes. When he was caught, investigators were shocked by... how harmless and unintelligent he seemed. How did THIS guy do what he did for so long? In part, he was able to do what he did because he targeted the poorest members of one of the poorest area of the nation. Law enforcement where and when he was killing didn't have much of a budget to dedicate enough resources to finding him, and also, the people he killed weren't people, typically, who kept regular social schedules. Police had a hard time, over and over, figuring out exactly where victims had been right before the died. Ronald was NOT a criminal mastermind. Not be a long stretch. He just figured out a simple con to get guys to tie themselves up so he could do what he wanted to do to them, and he got away with it because those guys typically lived high risk lifestyles in an area full of hard times and few resources. Despite how dark this subject is, I actually find a lot of humor to lighten it up because in addition to being a serial killer, AND an idiot, Ronnie Joe was also a Patti Labelle impersonator, a dude who had some super interesting rationalizations for why he had to do what he did, and a man with, apparently, the tightest, most fragile butthole on the planet.
