A Negro spiritual, also known as a spiritual or a folk hymn, is a type of religious song that emerged from the African American community in the United States during the era of slavery. These songs were often sung by enslaved African Americans as they worked in the fields, and they served as a way to express their faith and provide hope in the face of oppression and hardship. Negro spirituals typically have a call-and-response structure, in which a leader sings a line and the congregation responds with a repeated refrain or chorus. The lyrics often draw on biblical themes and imagery, and may incorporate elements of African music and culture. The melodies are usually simple and repetitive, with a strong emphasis on rhythm and harmony. Some of the most well-known Negro spirituals include "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," "Go Down Moses," and "Wade in the Water." These songs have been passed down through generations and have become an important part of African American musical heritage. They continue to be performed and celebrated today as a testament to the strength, resilience, and faith of the African American community.

Hi my name is Taylor and I am going to be discussing the amazing life of the Queen of Salsa, formally known as Celia Cruz. Celia Cruz was born (real full name) on October 21, 1925 in the musically diverse city of Havana, Cuba. She grew up in an extremely important time for tropical music in cuba and eventually became one of the most renowned artist of that genre and more not only in her own country but throughout Latin America. She did grow up in a very weird time for Cuba. Not only was music changing for the better, political, the country was at it's worst. But she used the one thing that brought everyone a sense of euphoria, her voice. Celia has always been a musical person. As she got older she would compete in singing competitions and win. She even did small commercial jingles. But it wasn't until the late 40s and 50s she got her big break. During that time, an Afro Cuban group famously known as La Sonora Matancera was at it's peak. This band was famous for singing with other singers like Bienvenido Grada, Celio González, and Benny Moré. Their lead singer, Myrta Silva, had wanted to leave the group to start a family in her country of Puerto Rico which left her spot open. Celia auditioned, and with hard work she became the groups first black front woman. Celia first record with La Sonora in August 1950 and wasn't received well by the public because she was black. But she persevered and kept doing what she loved most. She stayed with La Sonora for 15 years and recorded songs like Juancito Trucupey and Yerbero Moderno. They also made songs in honor of the Saints of the afro-Cuban religion, Santeria. The most populars were, Palo Mayimbe, yemaya, and Guede Zaina. As year passed, living in Cuba become a lot more tense. The Castro regime didn't like how La Sonora accepted gigs in other countries, so once the group flew to Mexico for a concert in 1960, the regime banned them from ever returning to cuba again. Celia COULDNT even attend her parents funerals. She then moved to the United States, found a home in New York, and then became a citizen. She stayed with La Sonora until 1965 and then began her solo career. She was contacted by Tito Puente who was very important in the making Latin Jazz in New York. That was the beginning of the next chapter of musical career Celia and Tito puente made a few albums together which weren't so successful. So she left for Fania records and joined the Fania All-Stars with Johnny Pacheco and debuted her most popular album Celia & Johnny. With Fania, Celia career skyrocketed. She had joined Fania in the 1970s which was also the time salsa was extremely popular. With them she record hits like Bemba Colora, Toro mata, and Quimbara. Salsa evetually died like most genres but Celia's popularity didn't. Years lster she made another hit entitled “La Negra Tiene Tumba'o”. A few months after releasing final album Regalo Del Alma in 2003, celia passed away. Her career lasted a little over 50 years and her impact on music in the Spanish speaking world is still seen in recent years. Celia as well as some of the Fania All-Stars paved the way for the popularity of genres such as Salsa, merengue, and reggaetón.

What is like losing a loved one for example your grandmother, uncle, singer, teacher, friend, Favorite Athelete etc Hi My name is omid khanian i am a 11th grader in uni and this is an episode of what is like losing a loved one. Please listen this might make you cry if u lost your grandmother, uncle, friend, family, teacher and more cause this happens to me in 2021 That i lost 2 one my grandmother and my uncle. On February 17th 2021 I lost my grandmother due to cancer. She was 74 years old. Before she died. I left my cousin's house. I cried because she was an angel that is part of our family and we all don't want to lose her. I prayed to god that hopefully she will wake up and continuing here life. On Valentine's day 2021 she suffered a stroke then she went to the hospital and the doctor gave her the vaccine shot but we said noooo cause she has cancer but the doctor said we have to do it. When my grandmother was in my cousins home she was sleeping and she wasn't waking up she was still breathing which is a good sign but when she returned to the hospital (me and my parents was at home) When it was 11:18pm my 2 cousin check her pulse it stop moving and that moment my cousin were crying so much. Before when she got a stroke she felt better like she was healthy but when she got a stroke it's sad. My Grandmother died of cancer but i didn't know yet cause i was sleeping. On February 18th 2021 i was in a zoom meeting and it was my 1st period class on ZOOM and my mother interrupted me for one second and she said to me “Omid Joon ………. I have to tell you something ….. It's bad news ……… Mam… an (She was crying to) finished (Passed away) she died last night when you were sleeping………..”. I was listening to the song Ouj-e-asman by Mohammad Esfahani which means “On the top sky” (it was a sad song) And that moment i was shocked crying so much that i close my Chromebook cause i was feeling down like i didn't want to finish school because it is an important day a sad day for us. Throughout the day I emailed my teachers and saying i can't make it to the zoom meeting because my grandmother passed away etc. While i am talking to this podcast makes me sad inside to so i might feel sad. Sorry if i stop on a word cause it feels like she is listening to my podcast. When it was here funeral my grandpa was crying alot cause my grandpa loves my grandmother so much and my grandpa is 84 so they are both 10 years apart my grandparents was born in iran my grandma was 14 and my grandpa was 24. My grandparents was born during WW2 but it wasn't in iran thank god. During her funeral to me it felt like she didn't pass away. She is here And every month when it's close to her day she comes to my dream a lot and also we have to go to her grave every month until her year because it is the jewish rule. If you would like to see her she will like to meet everyone that we introduced to her and she loved my teachers, my friends family back in elementary school and she will do anything. Her grave is in Eden Memorial Park. We don't know the name yet but I will lyk. And here is a cool story on June 19th 2021 we went to see her and once we see her my mom was saying maman joon we've missed you so much (my mom cried) please life is not the same without you we've missed you so much Thank you so much for being with us during this difficult time letting omid, getting good grades and getting his vaccine thank you maman joon. After my mom finished talking there were thunderstorms. Before when we saw her it was sunny, a little bit chilly and right after that it started raining a lot like hard rain. That means to me that I think my grandmother was crying so hard that she misses us so much. Then when we left and went to wash our hands it stopped over in her gravesite it was raining but in front of the Eden memorial it was not raining which she was crying in her own gravesite and i never see that happen. It was a gift from god that she could hear us. One time my grandmother came to my dream a lot. She likes it when I play the saxophone because she enjoys it so much. ANd when it was her year, i did a speech from her and it was fast that one year it was so fast . Also, I lost a cousin on April 1, 2021 he was my 2nd uncle named Daei Shokuri. It was April Fools' Day and My cousin texted my mom that my uncle had died. My uncle's name , Daei Shokuri, was a tough loss because he always came to parties and temples and also special events. I was like this is not real at all i just lost not 1 but 2 of my family members (Not from my family) That day when it was my cousin's bar mitzvah in ohel Moshe i sat next to his seat and it felt like he was there celebrating my cousin's bar mitzvah. So how is losing 2 of your love one it is tuff and sad at the same time. It is not easy to lose someone cause my grandmothers soul is still here cause i work at best buy in pico and sawtelle and i saw one cd player that look exactly like hers and there was these person that look like my uncle and my grandmother. And i wasn't kidding at all. If you would like to meet my grandmother she will love to see you she love to meet new people that i know and one day she will invite you to her house and give you persian chai and her gole abb. In 2016 my grandmother was is in my elementary school graduation and she was crying to see me. And also that day during my elementary culmination one of my favorite persian singer named habib died in iran and that was my favorite persian singer and also my grandmother. During 2019 (3 years ago) for my middle school graduation during emerson middle school she wasn't there and we took some pictures and i showed the pictures to my grandmother she said to me “Elahid Gorbonet berem” “ Khaely hasndome” cause i wore a black suit. That year my grandmother was fine but the cancer is such a pain in our hearts (b****) i just wish cancer will never (f***in) excist cause weve lost actors that have cancer like chadwick boseman, etc. but there lives will live on no matter what. If i would like to bring one person back alive it will be my grandmother because she does everything right she was too young to passed away but you have no choice. My grandfather was crying so much whenever my grandmother isn”t here because he loved her so much and whenever i talked to him or when my cousin was talking about my grandmothers memories We all cried and one time i show my grandfather an animated picture of my grandmother that was Black and white photo the app is called Myheratage it is on play store or Apple Store. And it will show you a Black and white picture can can turn into a real life picture like present time like color. And one time i did it to my Dads father and the picture was black and white picture and in the picture there was a white light in the background. And the clothes that he wore was a light greyish sweater and i told my father was this real and he said yes he little bit cried. And also on the app you could animate it. Please see me during lunch so i could show you myheratage app it a very good app to use and take picture of your love ones you will cry so much. And when i show the picture of my grandmother to my grandfather it was animated and it was with pictures i choose the animated it was a kiss animation (and yes there is more animations) He said to me “Omid Joon Merci ke omadi khone Daei,” My grandfather will talk to me farsi greeting me thank you so much for coming to my cousin house and showing me these pictures of maman we had alot of memories we each other from your birthdays, bartmitvah, graduations, and hopefully my grandmother will see me in heaven while i be married and i will miss that she will give my future kids hugs and kisses like what i did when i was little she will take care of them and have fun with them just what i did. She will put persian music and dance with you. She will feed you , She will do anything like a good angel does. While i am saying it makes me want to make me emotional cause i am saying the good memories about her. If you say good memories about her no matter what she loves you. On April 10th i started having a dream about my grandmother during spring break 2022 and she came to my dream 4 times in a row i am not kidding she was crying in my dream cause she misses me alot and also the dream that i saw was a song from habib called Madar which means grandmother / or mother and its a good song to listen to cause in my dream i cried so much inside of my dream and my grandmother was in it like God gave me a good dreams cause i always think of them in the morning and also i listen to music and walking to. I know i already told you it is hard to lose your grandmother/ a loved one. But if you keep on thinking of them god will create a dream that will be in your sleep and maybe your late grandmother will come in your dream one day if you keep on thinking about it. If i died i wish i will be in heaven and i hope i will die on a friday cause my parents told me if someone dies on a friday because fridays is usually the night of shabbat for jews its a good sign that they go straight into heaven For example my 1 uncle name daei hooshang he died on June 1st 2018 at night. My favorite persian singer name Habib that i already told you about he died on June 10th 2016 at night and that day was my elementary school culmination. I hope one day in heaven the first person that i want to see in heaven is my favorite nba player from the Los Angeles Laker The G.O.A.T Kobe Bryant because i grew up watching the lakers and also Kobe Bryant I had his jersey since i was 4 ½ year old. I have been a fan of the lakers when i was little. Before when kobe passed away on January 26th 2020 I really wish one day in Los angeles i will see him in person so he could sign his jersey or let him sign his shoes that i wored. During his championship run in 2009 and 2010 i was so happy cause i was little and i like watching the lakers. And now i am still watching the lakers games on spectrum sportsnet. No matter win or lose just enjoy the game. In April 13th 2016 it was an emotional and happy kobes last game. I really want to go to the game but it was expensive The tickets were 200+ per/person. So i just watched it at my home and i got emotional cause my childhood idol, the legend that i like to play basketball, was retiring. His Final Shot Attempted was from the 2006 nba playoffs game 4 vs the Suns back in 2006 And also his final points in the nba with 33,643 was in the free throw line. First , passing mj in the all time scoring list , etc was in the free throw line. On January 26th 2020 it was a sad morning cause Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter after when i ate breakfast and when i started exercising at home. Before when he died i woke up around 10:00am And i ate my breakfast it was a cereal milk (Honey Bunches of Oats With Almond) And i watch the news at the same time. (Yep every morning i watch the news cause i loved the news) Right after when i ate my cereal (The news was still on) I did my exercise at 11:00am so i could burn the calories and i exercise for 30 min. Right after when i finish, there was a Special Report that told us the bad news that a Retire Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant and 9 others was killed in the helicopter crash.
