In honor of Thanksgiving, here is a super special bonus encore episode of our fan favorite, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. If you are celebrating or not, we wish you the very best for the upcoming holiday season. May your Quorn Roast be toasted to perfection! Snoopy is cooking Thanksgiving dinner and everyone is invited! Jelly Beans and toast for all - including Franklin, the only black kid in the world of Charlie Brown and Peanuts! Franklin gets a seat at the table all by himself as the other kids crowd around the opposite side of the table. Some people see this moment in the show as emblematic of the black experience in America: included but excluded at the same time. Other people see this as Franklin getting a place of honor: by sitting alone he stands out amidst all the chaos of a dog and bird cooking and serving everyone dinner. Some people see racism, some see cartoon fun, but everyone can agree that a dog and a bird shouldn't have to do all the work while a bunch of kids sit around and complain about the food. What is Thanksgiving, where does it come from, what's the fact vs. fiction in the history of Thanksgiving? And what about Snoopy – is there racism going on and is there an actual apology being made by anyone for Franklin sitting all alone at a table crowded with white friends? Get ready to dish (sorry) about the tasteful (sorry) history of Franklin, his first appearance, his meaning and importance in the world of Peanuts (sorry and yes, we're using it as a food pun), and the sweet (sorry) teacher from Los Angeles who helped flavor (sorry) his creation. AI Recap: Welcome to another engaging episode of Apologies Accepted. Join Theo and Juliette as they explore the intricate layers of Thanksgiving history and the cultural nuances spotlighted in the iconic Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special. From the harrowing journey of the pilgrims to the 1973 animated celebration, they shed light on historical narratives, discuss the introduction of Franklin as Peanuts' first African-American character, and delve into the recent discussions on diversity and representation in media. The episode navigates through Harriet Glickman's pivotal role in encouraging Charles Schultz to create Franklin, reflecting on 1968 America post-MLK assassination, and the personal narratives of those who've seen themselves reflected in Peanuts. Whether it's the inadvertent symbolism of seating arrangements or the broader societal implications, Theo and Juliette critically assess Schultz's legacy and its resonance today. Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation that poignantly mixes nostalgia with a contemporary lens, challenging us all to reflect on inclusion, equality, and the significance of mainstream representation.

Finding yourself dreading Turkey Day? Cory and Nick deep dive the holiday from a cinematic point of view, to help you find movies and TV episodes to watch, as they try to figure out what qualifies as a "Thanksgiving Movie." As a bonus, they both recast the classic, holiday buddy road trip, "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" in different years! As the leaves turn and the air gets crisp, we find ourselves reflecting on Thanksgiving—a holiday often overshadowed by its festive neighbors, Halloween and Christmas. Why does Thanksgiving seem to linger in the background while the rest of the world rushes to deck the halls? Join us as we share some personal tales of turkey day traditions, from football to family feasts, and ponder the lack of a solid Thanksgiving cinematic universe. We roll up our sleeves and take on the curious mystery of Thanksgiving movies—or the glaring lack thereof. What makes a movie fit for this autumnal festivity? Is it the aroma of home-cooked meals or the golden hue of falling leaves? We debate the classics like "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," and stretch our imaginations, wondering if films like "Dead Poets Society" or "Knives Out" could fit the bill. It's a fun, nostalgic exploration that will have you rethinking your holiday watch list and maybe even considering a "rogue" Thanksgiving choice.Whether you're lounging in your stretchy pants post-feast, or dreading the possible awkward conversations ahead, this episode promises a hearty helping of holiday options. Two juveniles remain arrested in connection with the shooting at last week's Kansas City Chiefs victory parade. However, in the chaos of the day, many more were briefly detained. Including this man...who cops now say had nothing to do with the shooting. Now, after images of him in cuffs circulated online, he tells our Les Trent he's trying to repair his reputation. And Joel Osteen back in the pulpit at Lakewood Baptist Church this weekend…the first Sunday service since a woman opened fire there a week ago. Top of mind was the seven-year-old shooter's son, who was gravely wounded in the shooting. Plus, Coast Guard inspectors were going about their daily checks on a loading dock when they heard some scratching coming from inside a giant shipping container...and when they finally reached what was inside they were in for quite a surprise. Steven Fabian tells us what they found. And more than 50 years after A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving debuted - a beloved character is back. In this special Thanksgiving episode of Mapping the Zone, we take a look at the 1973 made-for-TV special, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. We examine the intertextual relationship between the fabled television special and Pynchon's magnum opus, Gravity's Rainbow—how does Charlie Brown's journey mirror that of Slothrop? Is Lucy's arc similar to that of Katje, or are there not enough giant octopi? Why is Linus at The White Visitation and why is Snoopy acting on behalf of Jamf? We'll tackle these important questions in this week's episode.Does anyone really read these show notes? Enjoy our conversation on Chapters 3-4 of Vineland. Happy Turkey Day, Slackers! This episode is a little bit of a mish mosh - kind of like a Thanksgiving buffet! Mostly about the movies - or should I say lack of movies - dedicated to the MAJOR holiday between Halloween & Christmas!Sure there are the tried and true classics - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Home for the Holidays. There odd one offs like Pieces of April, and then a ton of movies that are only "kinda/sorta" Thanksgiving movies. My question is why is this such a neglected holiday? Is there any other holiday more meme worthy - particularly as it often has the stigma of producing the weirdest, most uncomfortable, and even antagonistic family gatherings of all the major holidays! Seems like fertile ground, there.Wishing you and yours are very Happy Thanksgiving!

Join us on UTLRadio as we carve into the legal meat of the holiday season with "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Lawsuit." In this festive episode, we'll untangle the hypothetical legal snarls that could arise from the Peanuts gang's Thanksgiving antics. From the contractual obligations of an invitation to the liability of football pranks, we'll explore how Charles M. Schulz's beloved characters might fare in the court of law. We'll serve up a feast of legal insights, seasoned with humor and a dash of nostalgia, as we examine the rights of uninvited guests, the nuances of food safety regulations, and the potential for emotional distress in the wake of a non-traditional Thanksgiving meal. Whether you're a legal eagle or just a fan of the Peanuts' holiday mishaps, this episode promises to be more satisfying than toast and popcorn at your Thanksgiving table. So, pull up a chair and join host Pete for a legal look at what could be the most memorable (and litigious) Thanksgiving dinner ever animated. The CSWL multi-gen cast breaks down this lesser-known late 80's Thanksgiving Day cartoon. Those classic specials we love due to childhood sentiments and those specials we love due to quality (ie Home Alone and It's a Wonderful Life.) The comic section of the Sunday paper and comic strips of the past. What Snoopy had to do with Garfield and are you a Snoopy person or a Garfield one? Charlie Brown Thanksgiving vs. Garfield and Friends Thanksgiving. More Gen Z argument(s) to cancel this special (add it to the list) and debates over why it's not a classic. Have you ever found yourself making the same financial mistakes over and over again? Well, that stops NOW. We've all been there – overspending, accumulating debt, making poor investments. The list goes on. But in this episode, let's talk about how we can break free from this cycle. Let me share an amusing scene from the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special that captures this perfectly. It's a story of Lucy, a football, and Charlie Brown's repeated attempts. Sound familiar? This tale underlines the importance of learning from our mistakes and turning them into valuable lessons. Remember, mistakes aren't all bad. There are ‘good mistakes' – the ones we learn from. I'm going to walk you through a simple model, inspired by a military process, to help you consistently learn from your financial choices. So, please tune in as we uncover the power of learning from our money situations for making better money decisions. In this episode, John discusses: The importance of learning from financial mistakesThe psychology of repetitive financial mistakesApplying after-action reviews to personal financesTurning mistakes into learning opportunitiesKey Takeaways:We've all made financial mistakes, whether overspending, debt, or poor investments and acknowledging this is the first step to improvement.Just like Charlie Brown falling for Lucy's football trick, we often make the same financial errors despite knowing better, highlighting the importance of learning from our mistakes.Embrace a simple after-action review strategy – analyzing what worked, why it worked, what didn't work, why it didn't, and then taking action to improve – to consistently learn from financial decisions.Just as Peter urged us to remember and grow, embracing the process of reflection and learning can transform financial missteps into valuable lessons that shape our better financial decisions moving forward.“Now, there wasn't a whole lot of truth being shared by Lucy to old Charlie Brown, but after a while guys, we just need to learn from the past and make better decisions and an after-action review can help you get there.”ARTICLE LINK: Harvard Business Review - Learning in the Thick of It: https://hbr.org/2005/07/learning-in-the-thick-of-it Additional resources:Get your free “Get Recession Ready” mini-course at https://changeforyourdollar.com/Free Goal Achievement Supercharger Lessons & WorksheetsLet's continue the conversation! This Peanuts classic shows us kids and adults what Thanksgiving is about in a cute, comedic and wholesome way. A simple plot didn't go a long way but I enjoyed Snoopy making food for his friends and all comes from the bottom of his heart. A film to enjoy and possibly re-create, you'll get hooked and make you want to take on the world.#morningreel #acharliebrownthanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Kevin and Chris are back in the seasonal spirit with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, the third Peanuts holiday special, released in 1973. Is it yet another stone cold classic like A Charlie Brown Christmas, or It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown? Not exactly, but it still boasts that Vince Guaraldi magic, and would bring home Emmy gold the following year. So, join us this Thanksgiving, as we join Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Franklin, Snoopy, and Woodstock for some heaping helpings of buttered toast, popcorn... pretzel sticks... and jelly beans. (Also features Lucy in a particular cruel football-themed cold open, although she apparently had better things to do than spend Thanksgiving proper with the gang.)
