Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week Disney dropped some updates on the new Cars and Muppets attractions coming to Disney World. How much would you pay to be able to skip every line at Magic Kingdom? $200? $300? $400? Well, Disney's newest Lightning Lane offering (that's like 3 now right?) the Premier Pass offers just that. For around $400, you can get one time access to every major attraction in the Magic Kingdom. But with 19 attractions included, is it even possible to experience them all or is the Premier Pass just another useless Disney upsell. In order to find out, we purchased the Premier Pass during our recent trip to see what you could realistically accomplish in a day and the results surprised even us. Submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode. Don't forget to check us out on: -Instagram -Facebook -Youtube Missing the smell of the parks? In the summer of 2016, Disney introduced its first Latina princess, Elena of Avalor. Elena, Princess of the Periphery: Disney's Flexible Latina Girl (Rutgers University Press, 2023) by Dr. Diana Leon-Boys explores this Disney property using multiple case studies to understand its approach to girlhood and Latinidad. Following the circuit of culture model, Dr. Leon-Boys teases out moments of complex negotiations by Disney, producers, and audiences as they navigate Elena's circulation. Case studies highlight how a flexible Latinidad is deployed through corporate materials, social media pages, theme park experiences, and the television series to create a princess who is both marginal to Disney's normative vision of princesshood and central to Disney's claims of diversification. This multi-layered analysis of Disney's mediated Latina girlhood interrogates the complex relationship between the U.S.'s largest ethnic minority and a global conglomerate that stands in for the U.S. on the global stage. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Toy Story was Rebecca Odum's first introduction into the world of audio description, movie night at a camp for the blind. Born premature and becoming blind from Retinopathy of Prematurity ROP, even when reading large print and screens was still possible and before becoming a screen reader user, movies and television have been a part of Rebecca's life. What is audio description, AD QC, or quality control? This is the field our guest is training in. What constitutes good audio description anyway? This week on Outlook we speak with Odum about how audio description AD can benefit not only blind people and why it matters and about Odum's writing background and early vivid imagination. Rebecca also shares about studying ASL or American sign language and being a member of an all sign language choir. And we discuss the documentary one of our co-hosts and this week's guest recently trained on, for the art and specialty of audio describing and quality control, a beautiful doc about musician and composer Grace Fisher who acquired a childhood virus in her teens. Fisher is now quadriplegic and has started The Grace Fisher Foundation.
