The titles mentioned this week include: Stranger Things Season 4 Love on the Spectrum US Bullshit: The Gameshow Bigger Than Africa Dark Money And of course, we couldn't leave you without some films and TV shows to look out for over the summer. As a reminder, there's Floor is Lava Season 2 (3rd June), Hustle (8th June), First Kill (10th June), Halftime (June 14), God's Favourite Idiot (15th June), Snowflake Mountain (22nd June), Man vs Bee (24th June), Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area (24th June), Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2 (1st July) We'll (hopefully) be back for another season soon, but until then you can tweet us @SmileGena and @Tolly_T with the hashtag #1010WouldRecommend and tell us your TV and film takes. Bye for now!
It's a great day for TV fans and a great day to work for Netflix because Stranger Things is BACK for Season 4 - and if that's not exciting enough, we finally got Tolani to watch an episode! We discuss our first impressions of season 4 (don't worry, no spoilers), our fear of demons possessing little kids and we rate all of the TV and film genres because why not? The titles mentioned this week include: Stranger Things Season 4 We Are The Millers Love, Death and Robots Season 3 - Jibaro Working Moms Season 6 Sex/Life My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. This week we're discussing two very different titles: Our Father, the true story of a fertility doctor who'd secretly used his own sperm to inseminate his patients, and Bullsh*t: The Game Show, the show in which real life people lie their way to a million dollars. We try our hand at seeing if we'd be good Bullsh*t contestants (unsurprisingly, Gena is terrible) and then give some more recommendations for you to get your teeth into this week. The titles mentioned this week include: Our Father Bullsh*t: The Game Show Bling Empire Season 2 Better Call Saul Power Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. Today's episode is a mixed bag: we talk about everything from Doctor Who (and the news that Ncuti Gatwa is the newest Doctor!) to Tolani's stint on The Circle to men leaving us for dead in the gym. It wouldn't be a 10/10 episode if there wasn't some Selling Sunset discourse, so of course we talk about the long-awaited, Christine-less reunion and Maya's infamous shocked face too. The titles mentioned this week include: Selling Sunset Season 5 Reunion The Circle Season 4 Senior Year Blood Sisters Our Father Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. Welcome back! This week we're delving into the depths of our teenage trauma to recount our experiences with high street fashion thanks to new Netflix doc White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch. If you were a teen in the 2000s, you'll remember that all of the cool kids (if they were wealthy and slim enough) were wearing clothes from A&F, but how did its reign over pop culture come to an end? We discuss how this is explored in the doc, as well as ponder on what other great pop culture mysteries would make great documentaries. The titles mentioned this week include: The First Monday in May White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch White Gold Old Enough Serendipity Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. Everyone's favourite real estate reality TV series is BACK for a fifth season and this time there's a new office relationship, a new BRITISH cast member and a new feud between Christine and the Selling Sunset ladies. Not only do we unpack the drama of the Oppenheim Group, we chat lacklustre TV and film endings, our recommendations for the week and somehow also find the time to laugh at people in relationships? It's a mixed bag this episode. The titles mentioned this week include: Selling Sunset Season 5 Silverton Siege Russian Doll Season 2 It's A Sin Daniel Sloss: Live Shows - Jigsaw Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. We're both fresh from our holidays and feeling great, not least because we're joined by Heartstopper writer and creator, Alice Oseman. The long-awaited teen drama, which originally existed as a graphic novel, is now streaming and Alice tells us everything from casting her beloved characters to her own *secret* cameo. The shows mentioned this week include: Heartstopper Anatomy of a Scandal I Am Not Okay With This Love Life Selling Sunset Season 5 Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. If, like us, your sex education at school wasn't great, you'll probably relate to today's episode. We chat about new documentary Principles of Pleasure and all of the sex myths we were led to believe at a young age. Did you know the hymen doesn't “break” during penetrative sex? Did you know only know a quarter of women have orgasms during penetrative sex? We also try (and miserably fail) to label the vagina and constantly call the labia a “libia”. We can only apologise. The shows mentioned this week include: The Principles of Pleasure Hard Cell Eternally Confused and Eager for Love Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. Today's a very special episode as we're joined by Rowan Deacon, the director of Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story. The two part docuseries looks at TV star Jimmy Savile, who charmed a nation with his eccentricity and philanthropy until sexual abuse allegations exposed a shocking unseen side of his persona. We sit down with Rowan who told us what drew her to the project and what she wants people to take away from the films. She also gave us a fantastic TV recommendation too. The shows mentioned this week include: Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story The Power of the Dog Is It Cake? Each week, join hosts and IRL friends, Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think *you* should be watching. As this season of 10/10 Would Recommend draws to a close, we thought it would be churlish not to at least give a cursory nod to some of the smaller, unknown shows coming to Netflix in the last half of 2021. You know, give these shows as much of a chance of finding an audience as possible. So bear with us while we force ourselves to take a look at *checks notes* Stranger Things 4, Sex Ed 3, Money Heist 5, The Witcher 2 and a whole host of commercially risky ventures.Joining Tolly and Gena this week is the brilliant Phil Wang, who's own special "Philly Philly Wang Wang" arrives on Netflix on 10th August 2021.There's so many shows mentioned, we're going to get ~RSI typing them pout, but OK THEN IF YOU INSIST.Stranger ThingsEmily in ParisThe WitcherSex EducationRobin RobinTick Tick BoomMoney HeistEach week join hosts and IRL friends Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think * you * should be watching. You've seen the trailer, right? It. Blew. Up. A beaver talking to a devil, talking to a panda over dinner - wait, what?'Sexy Beasts' is the most nuts dating show you've ever seen in your lives. Originality is a rare beast nowadays, which is why we're super proud of the Fear Street trilogy, or should we say thrill-ogy!Three incredible full-length feature horror films released weekly? Crazy right? Not only that but it has interweaved characters, plot-lines and oh... starts in 1994 and ends in 1666 and is written by a master of his craft - Goosebumps creator RL Stine. He dropped by to speak to the ladies , who are so pathetic when it comes to horror, we got Alison Peirse, and actual academic expert in horror films to come and calm them down. Then, to see how much they've been paying attention, Producer Jamie put them through their paces with a special quiz. You didn't think we could cram S2 of 'Too Hot to Handle' into one episode did you? Sometimes you just have to call the experts in, right? There are millions of things Tolly and Gena are experts in, but being a reality TV star is not one of them (yet). Sweet Tooth is one of the most charming series you'll watch this year. Telling the story of Gus, a hybrid boy/deer (bear with, yeah?) and his search for his mother in the midst of a catastrophic pandemic.Exec produced by Sue Downey and her completely-unknown-unlikely-to-ever-amount-to-anything husband Robert Downey Jr, it has captured the hearts of millions - hitting the number one slot worldwide.Adeel Akhtar stars as Dr. Aditya Singh, but you will almost certainly already know him from one of the many shows lucky enough to have him, such as Killing Eve, Utopia, The Big Sick, Four Lions, The Night Manager and Back to Life. He is ubiquitous, brilliant and one of the nicest people we've ever had on the show.Adeel is speaking from a hotel room in London - whilst Tolly and Gena managed to find a room together the other side of town (albeit one with a turbine-sized air-con blowing right next to them). DescriptionIf you aren't on board the 'Master of None' train, then get a damned travelcard ASAP. S3 is a powerhouse - a masterclass in direction, screenplay and performance. One of the people largely responsible for this is Naomi Ackie - who plays Alicia, Denise's wife. Their journey through the complicated and difficult IVF maze is both heartbreaking and spellbinding. Nailbomber: Manhunt is an incredibly moving , shocking and powerful documentary about the 13 days that sent London into panic. Bombs in Brixton, Brick Lane and Soho devastated minority communites - before they found strength, fought back and helped police capture David Copeland, the man responsible for the atrocities.Using first-person accounts, police interview footage and incredible archive, it serves as an important bookmark in British history - one that, as Tolly and Gens discuss, has been overlooked.Joining them in this episode are Daniel Vernon, the director of Nailbomber: Manhunt and Mike Franklin - one of the people intrinsic to the capture of the bomber. We hope you enjoy this fascinating episode. As well as this, the girls also recommended these titles, available to watch now:Firefly LaneHalstonThe Woman in the WindowEach week join hosts and IRL friends Tolani Shoneye (of The Receipts podcast fame) and Gena-mour Barrett (who works for Netflix) as they discuss what they're watching, and what they think * you * should be watching. 'Army of the Dead' is the huge, bombastic Zombie Heist thriller from Hollywood legend Zack Snyder. Starring Dave Bautista, it is dripping in technicolour swagger, blood, guts and a freakin' zombie tiger. It tales a special someone to realise the epic vision of Snyder - and here, Justin Raleigh is that man. There was a time when anything with subtitles was considered far too intellectual and posh for mainstream consumption - but thanks in part to the meteoric rise in the fantastic Scandi-Noir genre, we now think nothing of settling down and applying a bit more concentration. This is rewarded with some incredible viewing. He is the president of Millarworld, and is responsible for iconic characters such as Kick-Ass and Kingsmen. His first series for Netflix is the mind-blowing Jupiter's Legacy, which stars Josh Duhamel and Ben Daniels in the story of the Union - a group of superheroes whose Utopian view of the world is being sorely tested. For our final episode of 2020, we'd like to take you to Shondaland if we may?Bridgerton is the latest masterpiece to come from Shondaland - Shonda Rhimes' production company. Set in high society London and based on Julia Quinn's best-selling novels, the series arrives on Netflix UK this Christmas Day. G&T got the opportunity to talk to one of it's stars, Nicola Coughlan, about the show, what it's like to become part of Rhimes family and (of course) a few words on some other show she was in called "Derry Girls" (we stan).
