St. Peter Damian (1007 - 1072 AD) was an advisor to, and sometimes corrector of, Popes, Emperors, and Kings. Through his writings he was a reformer of the clergy, and the monasteries, especially calling out and confronting immorality among the clergy. He was a member of the first college of cardinals as we know it today, and took part in wrestling away from royals and nobles the power to appoint Popes, restoring the process of papal elections. St. Peter Damian (1007 - 1072 AD) is another one of our lesser-known Doctors of the Church, and yet he was, in his time, a man who could give advice to the Popes, and call for reform in the clergy and in the monasteries. Known as a Catholic reformer (long before the Protestant Reformation), he confronted clergy immorality, simony and lay investiture, as well as corruption in the process of the election of Popes, and he was a member of the first college of cardinals, as we know it today. In the second part of their The Good, The Bad and The Ugly series, Ian and Lewis take a look at the notoriously ridiculed MD Geist OVAs and another lame duck of an OVA; Joker - Marginal City.
In today's episode, I continue building on the themes of life lessons, letting go, and personal healing, diving deeper into how these elements shape our spiritual and emotional journey. We explore the profound importance of releasing emotional burdens, which often stem from both good and painful experiences. Don Xavier teaches that these experiences are meant to guide us, yet unresolved grief and emotional toxicity can keep us trapped in the past, preventing us from living fully in the present. One powerful analogy Don Xavier shares is the “bag of rocks”—how many of us carry the heavy weight of our past experiences like a sack full of rocks on our shoulders. This emotional burden holds us back, making it impossible to move forward with lightness and freedom. By letting go of these rocks, we can free ourselves from the unnecessary weight and open up to the lessons and growth each experience brings. We'll dive into the concept of self-healing and the role of therapy as a guide rather than a solution. Don Xavier emphasizes that true healing comes from within, encouraging us to stop relying on external sources to "fix" us. The bag of rocks metaphor ties into this idea—no one else can take that burden off our shoulders; we must make the conscious decision to release it ourselves. We also explore the dangers of self-judgment and comparison, which block our path to happiness and transformation. By letting go of the past and its emotional weight, we create space for healing, personal growth, self-acceptance, and emotional well-being. What You'll Discover in This Episode: Life Lessons and Letting Go (02:51): How the good, the bad, and the ugly of life teach us valuable lessons for personal growth. Healing from Within (06:10): Why no one can heal you unless you're willing to heal yourself. The Power of Observation (11:29): How observing people without judgment helps you grow in wisdom and compassion. Self-Acceptance and Happiness (17:20): How embracing who you are paves the way for true emotional well-being and happiness. Letting Go of Past Baggage (23:01): The metaphor of carrying a bag of rocks, representing the emotional weight we hold onto, and how to release it. Transformational Takeaway: To experience happiness and peace, you must let go of the emotional baggage from your past and embrace self-acceptance. The power to heal and grow lies within you, and by learning these lessons, you can transform your life from the inside out. Rick and his guest Shanita Hart from Street Grace Ministries engage in a very interesting conversation around the use of social media. They discuss some ways parents can keep their children safe from some of the dangers of social media. They discuss setting and managing boundaries along with other tips to help you mange your children's social media use.
Jesus said this in John chapter 8, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free". So the converse is if you don't know the truth, if you are believing a lie rather than being set free, you are in some kind of bondage. So the premise of the series we have been in this summer is that there is power in believing the truth. When we know the truth, we understand the truth, we believe the truth, it literally sets us free. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1170/29

Galatians 6:4-9
Message preached by Rev Doug White on Sunday, April 14th, 2024.
In last week's episode, I interviewed Elizabeth Eichhorn, a former business coach of mine and fellow entrepreneur. I brought Elizabeth onto the show to share the story of her first business and talk about some of the big moves she made along the way that led her to where she is today. What I didn't know going into the chat was that Elizabeth's first business, Mary Lee Cookies, an early player in the Gluten Free food business – actually failed. And I'm not sure Elizabeth was planning to share that with me on her episode… but she did, and she found the courage to be real about it.What happened after Elizabeth shared these details was quite magical… The story of her failed business generated emotion… She dug deeper. She spoke of the reality of her personal life at the time… And she talked about the deep sense of loneliness she felt even as she was on the brink of success.Women in business, does this resonate?Sharing only the good parts of your story sounds like the right thing to do to make people buy into whatever it is you are selling… products, services, a promotion, a new role… and I can tell you this: while it definitely feels SAFER to stash away all the less magical moments… it is those ugly parts of your story that you actually NEED to share in order to connect with people.People want real. They want to know what really happened. And what you did next? And how that felt? That is what good storytelling is all about. It turns out that a lot of the time, the ugly parts are what make your story beautiful. In this episode, I'm going to dive deeper into my interview with Elizabeth Eichhorn and talk about some of the GEMS from her story.I hope you enjoy this episode. Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe to my show wherever you get your podcasts. Like, love and share these episodes generously... because every engagement matters when you're elevating the visibility of women in business. In this second part of a two-part series on Novatian of Rome, Dr. Papandrea discusses the flawed sacramental theology and ecclesiology of Novatian, which led to a schism that not only lasted for centuries, but created a new situation in which a faction could be orthodox with regard to the doctrine of the Trinity, yet not within the mainstream of the Church and her Tradition (i.e., Christian, but not Catholic). Novatian of Rome is an extremely important, but conflicted, character in the early Church. On the one hand, he clarified and helped define the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity, preparing the Church for the ecumenical councils. On the other hand, he was the central figure of a schism in a controversy over the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. In this first part of a two-part series on Novatian, Dr. Papandrea discusses the positive contributions of Novatian, as a Church father, and as the subject of his doctoral dissertation. Links To read Novatian's letters to Cyprian (letters #29 and #30 from “the Roman clergy” were written by Novatian): https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/fathers/view.cfm?recnum=1770&repos=8&subrepos=0&searchid=2383234 For more information on Cyprian of Carthage, listen to Mike Aquilina's Episode 18: https://www.catholicculture.org/commentary/ep-18-short-happy-life-cyprian-carthage/ For more information on those Church fathers who were significantly influenced by Novatian, listen to Mike Aquilina's episodes 26 (Hilary of Poitiers), 23 (Alexander of Alexandria), 24 (Athanasius of Alexandria), and 33 (Ambrose of Milan). The aspect of salvation that is often considered less desirable than others is that of repentance. While it may not appeal to our fleshly desires, it is just as vital as any other part of salvation. There is an undeniable power when someone previously walking in a manner contrary to God finds a Godly sorrow and turns from sin toward the Savior.11/30/2023 - Thursday NightScriptures Used (In Order of Occurrence):Luke 15:1-10Romans 12:22 Corinthians 7:9

Healthcare professional Cassie Abel brings over twenty years of experience to our discussion on caregiving's emotional challenges and the guilt that sometimes accompanies them. Cassie's caregiving journey with her mother, Carol, diagnosed with ALS in 2020, has shaped her outlook on caregiving. Carol inspired Cassie's love for healthcare, and when her health began to decline, Cassie stepped in to provide care, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges that many caregivers face.
