Phil and Jake are joined once again by Efrem Schulz to rank rap group Insane Clown Posse, actor Gary Busey, and a third topic on the List of Every Damn Thing.Find Efrem on Twitter (@Efbystereo) and Instagram (@efbystereo). And keep on eye out for upcoming shows by his bands Death By Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Manic Hispanic! If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: The only ICP song we really discuss is (of course) “Miracles”. The Great Milenko is a devil figure in the Juggalo cosmology - "According to the group's mythology, The Great Milenko is a necromancer and illusionist who tries to trick individuals into greed and other such sins. He takes out the worst in an individual and creates powerful illusions in an attempt to cause them to become hedonistic and greedy. An honorable individual must fight his magic in order to make it to Shangri-La." Horrorcore is a genre that was a big deal in the 90s. It's pretty much what it sounds like. Horror-inflected rap music. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were initially extremely horrorcore. They had a song called "Hell Sent" about invading hell and killing demons. Looking back now it was inescapable, from the Geto Boys ("Chuckie") to Ice-T ("pulse of the rhyme") to the Gravediggaz ("1-800-Suicide"). It's one of those things you don't realize is everywhere until years later when it's gone. American Juggalo is a great short film about the Gathering of the Juggalos. You should watch it. Busey movies discussed include The Buddy Holly Story, Point Break, Under Siege and The Gingerdead Man. We also talk about his appearances on such reality TV shows as I'm With Busey, Celebrity Rehab and Gary Busey Pet Judge. The Rock is Phil's favorite 90's action movie. People get it confused with Con Air but it's much better. All three stars (Connery, Harris and Cage) go all-out. Jake Busey is Gary Busey's son, he looks like his dad. Starship Troopers is a Paul Verhoeven film loosely based based on the film of the same name by Robert Heinlein. It's maybe the best anti-war movie of the past 50 years but the general public really showed their ass by missing the point. Is Gary Busey in Lethal Weapon? You bet your ass he is. Please direct any complaints about our third topic to @Efbystereo & @thaddius_larue. The Gathering of the Juggalos is the music festival centered around the rap duo Insane Clown Posse. Their songs are hyper-violent and profane; their stage show features grotesque clown makeup and blasting the audience with their favorite drink, Faygo soda; and their fandom has even been designated by the FBI as a loosely organized gang. Musically, they've historically been rejected by critics: The Guardian has called them “a magnet for ignorance;” Allmusic has called them a “third rate Beastie Boys,” and Blender called them “the worst band in music.” Nate became fascinated with them after watching the 2011 documentary American Juggalo — that's when he realized that there's more to Insane Clown Posse and its fans than he previously thought.  For the second episode of our summer festival series, we dig into the sound of Insane Clown Posse to ask: Is their music really as bad and offensive as all the critics say? What is the general public missing that ICP's fans are hearing? To answer these questions, we talk to Nathan Rabin, the author of You Don't Know Me but You Don't Like Me: Phish, Insane Clown Posse, and My Misadventures with Two of Music's Most Maligned Tribes, and 7 Days In Ohio: Trump, the Gathering of the Juggalos and The Summer Everything Went Insane. Songs Discussed •Insane Clown Posse - House of Horrors, Hokus Pokus, My Axes, F*** the World, Miracles, Down with the Clown •Esham - The Wicketshit Will Never Die •Eminem - Stay Wide Awake More •Check out more of Nathan Rabin's writing Learn more about your ad choices. Their million followers, the Juggalos and Juggalettes, commune once a year for a music festival known as "The Gathering" - a week of rap metal, body paint and whip-its the rest of the planet would likely regard as a nightmare. "We recorded a podcast. We recorded a podcast for you. Oh, what a thing to do. And it was all Giallo…" This week Kyle, Matthew and Natalie sit down with Radtober alum and spooky movie aficionado Alex Jacobs to talk about the uniquely Italian horror movie genre: giallo. Beginning in the 1960s, Italian filmmakers inspired by pulp novels and murder mysteries created proto-slasher films known for their stylistic use of music, color and black-gloved killers (along with brunettes and rampant murders at boarding schools). The gang discusses giallo's grand tradition of insane titles. Kyle and Alex get nostalgic about the use of the snap zooms in movies. Plus, we learn about vintage Italian cinema's total disregard for audio recording. But it wouldn't be "This Is Rad!" if there weren't some solid tangents, including a loving tribute to the non-giallo but still Italian horror classic “Suspiria." A fun and informative chat that lovingly celebrates a cool, lesser known corner of the horror movie landscape. OXYANA premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2013 where Dunne won the award for Best New Documentary Director as well as a received a Special Jury Mention for Best Documentary.  Dunne has also directed several short documentaries including: THE ARCHIVE (nominated for an Emmy in 2011), MAN IN VAN, THE BOWLER, STRAY DAWG, BLACK BIKE WEEK, TRUMP RALLY and AMERICAN JUGGALO (named documentary of the year for 2011 by the website, Short of the Week). In 2015, Sean Dunne released the micro-feature FLORIDA MAN as well as a feature about online sex workers titled CAM GIRLZ.  Hailed as the “master of fringe Americana” for his ability to honestly capture half-mythical corners of the country, Dunne’s approach to documentary is to give his subjects the ease and opportunity to find their own voice and his viewers the freedom to form their own conclusions.  www.artistdecoded.com www.instagram.com/artistdecoded www.twitter.com/yoshinostudios

On this podcast we have documentary filmmaker Sean Dunne. Known for Oxyana (2013), Man in Van (2009) and American Juggalo (2011). His unique perspective strikes at the paradigm of traditional documentaries by capturing his subjects in their natural state without forcing a specific agenda or narrative. As such, Sean's films often evoke strong emotional responses. This is a thought-provoking conversation about being present, honest, and reflective. Sean's perspective contrasts my perspective of scripting videos and shoots by showcasing how you can "ride the wild" when you surrender to the present.
