Jeremiah sealed the entrance to the cave, and when some of his followers tried to mark the way, they were unable to find it. Jeremiah told them that the location would remain unknown until God gathered his people. The Ark of the Covenant contained the stone tablets of the covenant, Aaron's staff, and the gold jar of manna. It was placed in the Most Holy Place of the Temple, behind a second curtain. The Ark disappeared when Solomon's Temple was destroyed, but it's not clear if it was removed or destroyed by fire. There are many claims about the current location of the Ark of the Covenant, including: Ethiopia, Southern Africa, Europe, and Under the Temple Mount in Israel. Jeremiah‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭AMP‬‬“It will be in those days when you have [repented and] multiplied and increased in the land,” says the Lord, “they will no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of the Lord.' Well hey there! Hello to ya and welcome to this episode of The Burt (Not Ernie) Show, where we talk about God's promises and apply them to our lives. God's promises are all true, and they are true for you if you are a follower of Jesus. Isn't that great news?!? I'll go ahead and answer my own question: yes, it is most certainly great news. I'm speaking at the Vibrant Home Life Summit & I hope you'll join me (it's online!) You're listening to The Burt (Not Ernie) Show, part of the Spark Network, now playing in the Edifi app. Today's episode is sponsored by Mr. Pen , and I've put a link in the show notes. I love pens, journaling, and the like…and I love Mr Pen products. I also love their heart to support IJM and take a stand against human trafficking. So check them out, follow them on the gram, and be part of something more than just buying a new Bible highlighter. And one more important thing I want to share with you today - I'm honored to be speaking at the upcoming Vibrant Home Life Summit. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the secular culture that seems to surround us at every turn? Do you find yourself struggling to maintain your faith and uphold your Christian values in a world that often feels hostile to them? If so, I want you to know that you're not alone.   In the midst of the chaos and confusion of the secular world, there is a beacon of hope shining brightly: the Vibrant Home Life Summit. This transformative event, taking place from April 29 to May 3, 2024, is designed to breathe new life into your faith and equip you with the tools you need to thrive as a Christian family. I'd love to have you join me for this summit, which is an online event, and find a whole ton of encouragement. The link is right in the show notes, and I'll be sending out some emails about the summit and sharing on social media and am going to have a special bonus episode of the podcast to hit on some issues that are facing us as disciples of Jesus in this day and age, so be sure to keep an eye out for that and I'll be hitting this subject hard in that episode, number 179, because you and I are living in this exact time for such a time as this, and in order to live well we need one another, we need to be shored up and encouraged and reminded that we're not alone, far from it, in this culture war and war on our families. I'm looking forward to that episode, and to have you join me at this summit, which is so needed right now.  We're taking a look at some promises God's given us in the book of Isaiah today, and this is episode number 178. Episode mentioned for reference - Episode 38 - Isaiah 40:31 & Psalm 103:5 (A Molting Season...) | The Burt (Not Ernie) Show (podbean.com) Isaiah is a book that is packed full of warnings, prophecies, encouragement and promises. It's a book that you can, and probably should, study with a long-haul perspective. It is anything but lifeless! And it isn't something to glaze over quickly. And so, here we are taking a second look at the promises in Isaiah because it's not really a book of the Bible that can be fully addressed in one short podcast episode. Or in a dozen episodes, honestly. I cannot possibly do this book justice. I just can't. I won't even come close. But I can share several promises from Isaiah that will encourage you, no matter what your life may look like today, or what it may look like in a few months or a few years (and I do think we are entering a phase of history that will leave all of us living lives that look very different in the next several years as compared to how  they look right now… as I've said before, keep your eyes on Israel and pay close attention to what's happening there… some upcoming events are going to take place that could very well be the next steps toward the prophecy we read about in Daniel and the explanation, if you will, that Paul shared in 2 Thessalonians… and while that isn't the express focus of this episode, it is noteworthy. Because if we don't have any real idea of what's happening over there in the Middle East, in Israel specifically, that could be because our news isn't telling us some of the things taking place that pertain to the Bible being fulfilled exactly as it's written, and not all of us have our social media feeds curated so that our feeds keep us somewhat up to date of what's going on. And what's going on has to do with Iran readying to attack Israel, now per it's old school Bible name, Iran is the same as Persia. It's a wild time to be alive, for us as Christians, so let's keep loving people well, and we do that better when we know what time it is on the Kingdom calendar and realize that our priorities can easily get all out of whack when we think it's a different time than it really is. If things are heating up in Israel, which they have been the last six months, then we know it's a ramp up time. Gotta know the Bible and gotta keep our eyes on Israel and gotta love people now better than we ever have before, because that's our job as disciples, to go and tell. Let's allow the words from Isaiah to spur us on toward love and good deeds, and I don't mean platitudes and somewhere over the rainbow, but actual love that moves us to love others. Christ love compels me, wrote Paul. But what about us? Does Christ's love compel Jan? Do you find yourself compelled by Christ's love?   So it says in Isaiah chapter 8, verse 13 AMP - It is the LORD of hosts whom you are to regard as holy and awesome. He shall be your (source of) fear. He shall be your (source of) dread (not man). Verse 14a - Then He shall be a sanctuary (a sacred, indestructible shelter for those who fear and trust Him);    What you fear rules the direction of your life and the attitude of your heart.  I think you likely already know that, but it's worth the reminder. Because  we are living in uncertain times, lots going on every single day, we are in an era when the next news story doesn't even shock us because it's been so much for so long. I've seen surveys of younger people who all seem to agree that since 2020, they feel like their life has sort of been on hold, in some kind of a pause, and they feel lost and somewhat depressed and I don't think that only applies to the younger generation. It's sort of true for all of us, isn't it? So the hope we find here, to fear the Lord, to let Him be our only source of dread, that takes the fear out of everything else. But we have to be reminded about this, at least I do. Fear Him, He is to be your only source of dread. Not man. And then He will be a sanctuary and an indestructible shelter for those who fear and trust Him.   Here's a big promise, whopper sized, for us from Isaiah Chapter 30, verse 21, still in the AMP Your ears WILL hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.   If you need some guidance (and who among us doesn't at one point or another?) or clarity, direction, which choice do I make, which way do I go, what do I do? This verse holds the hope and the promise that we are in need of.  I say this often, although I haven't said it on the podcast in a while, but when one of God's promises says “WILL”, He means it! Let me read that aloud to you once more. Your ears WILL hear a word, or a voice, behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. WILL! He is going to give you a word of guidance when you are weighing your options, do I go right, do I go left…but here's the thing, we have to walk in it. He will say, “This is the way,” but He won't take those steps for us and He won't force us to walk in those ways. He will tell us, Go this way, take a left, not that way, this way is the way to go…and He expects us to do as He directs us to do and to walk in the way He leads us. If you will do that, not all the second guessing and the what iffing, but will just say, yup, He directed me and it's a left turn here at this junction, so I am going left, if you walk in it, then you'll be living in the fullness of this promised blessing. To be able to know that you have the guidance and direction from the voice and word of God for all the days of your life in every decision, to be able to know the way to go, the route to travel, the path to take, the turn to make…this is a huge promise. Don't miss out on this! Take full advantage of this one! And believe that God says will because He means it. He WILL do this for you. But you need to walk in the way He directs you to go.    Isaiah 40:29 AMP He gives strength to the weary, and to him who has no might He increases power.    Now this one, it's for me. It might also be for you today, but I can tell you without a doubt, it is for me right now. I am somewhat weary from health problems. In all honesty, I am super weary. I'm tired of discomfort, I'm tired of the cough that is either due to the heart failure diagnosis or due to my busted thyroid or due to both. I am weary of the pain due to a large number of uterine fibroids. I don't like the constant feeling of needing to catch my breath. I don't like coughing and people wondering if I am contagious (I'm not, it's just due to my heart). I'm tired of hypothyroidism. I'm tired of not knowing if it will be a good day or a not so good day, energy wise. I'm weary of feeling like I ought to enjoy my life more and live better. I'm tired of gained weight (again, thyroid and heart problems…like if you see me and want to know what happened, well, Google heart failure and you'll know!)  And so, a verse like this one is for me. He promises to give strength to the weary. That's me! And to him, or her, who has not might He increases power. I have no might on my own! For a fact, there is no might I muster up to do anything. If it gets done, it's all because God gave me power to do it. Now that's true for all of us, but in my case, I am just a lot more aware of it on a daily basis.    Isaiah 40 verse 29 is a verse I need, and so I opt to believe that God will keep His word, keep His promise, and I pray for that to be my reality.  Yes, I pray for healing. And I also pray for power and strength while I keep praying for healing.  I hope you do that, too, for whatever need you have, whatever your current station in life might be.    Isaiah 40:31 AMP But those who wait for the LORD (who expect, look for, and hope in Him) will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings (and rise up close to God) like eagles (rising toward the sun}; They will run and not become weary, they will walk and not grow tired.    Ah, what a verse! We have to wait for the Lord in order for this promise to be fulfilled for us - but we wait with expectancy, we wait in hope, knowing that our hope will not be disappointed! We look for Him, watching and searching for Him to show up in our circumstances. Active waiting is a real thing, and in the Kingdom of God, it's the only way to wait well!   When He shows us, we gain new strength (I've talked about this on the podcast way back in 2019, I think it was, and it is amazing how the eagle transforms after a molting season - it is hands down one of my favorite episodes of this show and I'll add the link here in the show notes). Renewed power. New strength. All because we wait for Him expectantly and with hope.  We'll rise up close to God like an eagle rising toward the sun.  We will run and not become weary and to this I say, Yes, Lord! Do as You have said! And they will walk and not grow tired. You know, last fall I took a trip that involved a lot of walking and I began to see with a new set of eyes more clearly what my health was like, sort of how bad it had gotten, because walking several miles did some revealing of things in my health that I had kind of not really clued in to.  And I'm glad for that experience! But also, I'm praying that it will come to an end, in this life and not merely the next one, and I'll have healing and be free from the hindrances that I did not used to deal with and would like to not deal with now.  What about you? I've shared a lot about how these passages from Isaiah spur me on, emboldened me as I pray, and give me tremendous hope as I wait for God to fulfill them for me. Do they do the same for you?  Are you more free, more excited, more hopeful, after reading God's promises?  Do you rise up with new energy and strength because God, via His living word, has supernaturally done a work in your heart and mind and inner being?  I don't want to only talk about my health struggles. I want to use those as a real life example that will hopefully encourage you that God's promises are for you, remind you that He is for you, you are never alone, and all His promises to you will not fail because He will not fail.   Not only are you loved, but you are so loved. Not only are you favored, but you are highly favored. And not only are these promises for all God's people, but they are also just for you.    There are some more promises in the book of Isaiah that might encourage you, and I'm going to put together a pdf download for you that has a list of promises from the Amplified Bible. I don't know that it will be linked in this episodes show notes, but I will get it linked in the next episode for sure and will also share it on social media and on my website, which is my name, JanLBurt dot com.   God's gonna keep these promises, to me and to you. Believe Him for it! And honor Him by waiting with great hope and expectation!   Thanks so much for listening, and I'll see you back here next time. Bye bye!

Matthew 1:21-23 NIV  //  “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”  (which means “God with us”). The Holy Spirit #6 - By Pastor George Lehman John 16:7(Amp) – However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].   There is no worse screen to block out the Spirit than confidence in our own intelligence. (John Calvin) Reasoning spiritual things with a natural mind, Will only bring confusion. Spiritual blindness births deception. You can have a lot of Bible knowledge and yet be spiritually blind. Nearly every passage in the New Testament that has to do with ‘end of the age' includes some kind of warning about being deceived. Matthew 24:4-6 (NIV) – Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Matthew 24:24 (NIV) – For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. The ‘elect' or God's chosen ones are not immune to deception. To avoid being deceived, you must be able to identify the truth. Pontius Pilate interrogated Jesus before His crucifixion. Jesus told him… John 18:37 (Amp) – Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, you say it! [you speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly, I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice. Not the deceivers voice – God's voice. Pilate and philosophers have asked this question for 2500 years… John 18:38a (NIV) – “What is truth?” The co-ordinates of truth, like a GPS, you put in the co-ordinates, and you'll get to your destination. John 14:6 (Amp) – Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me. Jesus is the TRUTH. God's word, the Bible is also TRUTH. John 17:17 (Amp) – Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth. The Spirit is also TRUTH. 1 John 5:6 (Amp) – It is the Spirit who bears witness [to Jesus Christ], because the Spirit is truth. The truth is Jesus. The truth is the Bible. The truth is the Spirit. To be sure you're dealing with the truth therefore, you must ask three questions… Is it true to Jesus? Is it true to the Bible? Does it have the witness of the Holy Spirit. If these questions are answered in the affirmative[bevestigend], you may be confident that you have the truth. How deception displaces the truth. Paul's warning about deception… 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NIV) – But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. How quickly we can lose our grasp on the truth – letting go to “put up with” false doctrine, lies, our own suitable interpretations. Paul's warning to the church in Colossae… Colossians 2:8 (NIV) – See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Never forget this… To win worshippers to himself, Satan uses deception. Revelation 12:9 (Amp) - And the huge dragon was cast down and out—that age-old serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, he who is the seducer (deceiver) of all humanity the world over; he was forced out and down to the earth, and his angels were flung out along with him. Deception is something to which all of us are susceptible *(Vatbaar); no one should assume they are immune to it. Galatians 6:3 (NIV) – If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Satan uses pride and deception to win people's worship. I believe pride is the primary door through which deception takes hold of our lives and misleads us. Proverbs 11:2 (NIV) – When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. A proud person is not teachable.  They become a ‘know it all'. They become prime target no.1 to the enemy. The result… Psalm 59:12 (NIV) – For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. Pride will cause you to be deceived in the way you serve God.  It will be mixed good and evil. God's view on pride because He knows how it can lead us away from truth into deception. James 4:6 (Amp) – But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). If we are walking the pathway of truth and humility our light should grow brighter daily as we grow closer to God. If your light is not getting brighter then you are in danger of backsliding, of relying on self-made methods of deception. Proverbs 4:18 (Amp) – But the path of the [uncompromisingly] just and righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines more and more (brighter and clearer) until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day [to be prepared].

“I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything just because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence and boldness he will get up and give him whatever he needs.”‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬I must admit, this is the part of the A.S.K.ing I have had the most trouble with in the past because I always felt as though  I was somehow missing it if my prayers didn't get answered right away. It looks something like this, “Well I didn't get what I asked for, so it must not be God's will...”Then, after letting that doubt creep in we begin swallowing bigger lies thrown at us from well-meaning people and even ourselves in most cases, “Well you know God will provide your needs, just not your wants...”Keep on going down this line of reasoning and we might just end up with the biggest whammy of the bunch, “You know God works in mysterious ways...”And then bam! One day we wake up and our receiver is completely broken! :) Be encouraged today, I have great news for you! Jesus Himself said, keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking! Listen, the Bible says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4The Bible says, “If you remain in Me and My words remain in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.”‭‭John‬ ‭15:7‬ ‭AMP‬‬Again, “The young lions lack [food] and grow hungry, But they who seek the LORD will not lack any good thing.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:10‬ ‭AMP‬‬All throughout scripture, we find God providing our needs and wants and we have learned already that when our hearts are full of the Word of God, we know that even our wants line up with scripture! :) Therefore, the problem is not with God or whether it's His will, this would however be the easiest path to take because it takes all the pressure off of us! :) Can I tell you some more good news? The pressure was never on us anyhow! All the pressure remains on the Word and it is well able to stand the test of time and any doubts we may possess. In other words, no matter if we receive from it or not, the Bible remains true! No matter our experiences, the Bible remains true! No matter what we believe or don't believe, the Bible remains true!So where does this leave us? The Word of God is His will! :) Therefore if it says, I can have my heart's desires if I delight myself in Him, then that's the final Word! And if I am delighting myself in Him and my experience is I am not receiving my heart's desire, this is when doubt tries to creep in...Don't let it! Keep on keeping on!Knock!!!!Persist! The Bible puts it this way, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:13‬ KJVListen, we live in a material world, but our battle is not with flesh and blood. Ephesians 6:12We don't always see what's truly going on around us, but I can tell you this, the thief comes not but for to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life and it more abundantly! John 10:10Therefore, keep sowing good seed, keep giving, keep putting the Word of God in, keep going to church, keep tithing, keep encouraging, keep praising Him, keep praying, keep reaching out to others, keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking! Don't you quit! The Word of God is alive, “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬It doesn't matter what you see or feel, the Word works! Knock! Persist! Press through any doubt, disbelief, feeling, thought, bad experience, anything

Mornings With Jesus

Snowed In“The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬You ever feel snowed in mentally, physically, or spiritually? You ever been guilty of this prayer? “God give me more patience!”If so, please don't be discouraged! :) You are in great company! Be encouraged today! The Good News is this, God has given us patience already. It is a fruit of the spirit:“But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness,”‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22‬ ‭AMP‬‬If anyone should be praying for more patience, it's God Himself, concerning His own creation! And yet the Bible says He is longsuffering, not willing that any should perish. What an awesome God we serve! He is our example for what it means to truly exercise the gift of patience. It may feel at times like the weight of the world is on you, like God is not moving, like He doesn't hear you like you are snowed in on every side, but it's in these times that we must remember If God is for us, who can be against us! It's not so much that we need to pray for more patience, but rather thank God for the patience He has already given us! By choosing joy in the midst of our troubles, by choosing to thank Him instead, He will help us to shift our focus and rehone our priorities and now instead of praying for more patience, we can pray for what to do while we are waiting! :) Listen, God is not slack! He isn't slow concerning His promises! “I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem]— From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber [briefly] nor sleep [soundly]. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your life. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in [everything that you do] From this time forth and forever.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121:1-8‬ ‭AMP‬‬It might look like you are surrounded, but you are surrounded by Him! :) We all have to wait, we all have times of being snowed in, but it's in these times that we have to wait already, that we can take advantage of the time and see what can be done in spite of the waiting! Why not praise Him anyway! Why not grow closer to Him! Grab a blanket, cuddle up with Jesus, and rest in His loving arms today! :) You might be snowed in, but you aren't really, you're nestled snug in the loving arms of your Father! Choose joy today! Choose patience! :) If you do, you will be amazed at the outpouring of creative ideas and peace that comes flowing toward you, in you, and all around you. :) In Christ, Joshua Scott ZeitzSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/joshzeitz)

Living worthy of our calling Revelation 19:17(NIV) – “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready.”  Living worthy is not an optional extra to Christianity. We rate ability in men by what they finish, not by what they attempt.  By: Pastor George Lehman  Your legacy is how you ran your race not how you started it. Acts 26:19-20 (Amp) - Wherefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision, But made known openly first of all to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout the whole land of Judea, and also among the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works and live lives consistent with and worthy* of their repentance. *Qualities that are required Matthew 3:8 (Amp) - Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance (let your lives prove your change of heart). The church today is full of “Defeated, lukewarm Christians”. A “worthy living life” is a difference-making life. Dr. Bob Moyer’s train ride: I will never forget Dr. Bob Moyer’s story of how, one day, as he was riding on a train between speaking engagements, he noticed a young man acting strangely.  He would run his hand over the plush-lined seats and as he did, he kept saying, “Wonderful. Wonderful.”  Then he would stare out of the window at the passing countryside and, as he did so he kept saying, “Wonderful. Wonderful.”  He picked up a newspaper, fingered it gingerly and said, “Wonderful.  Wonderful.”  He walked up and down the train coach examining every detail, all the time repeating one word, Wonderful.  Wonderful.” Finally, Dr. Moyer, overcome with interest left his seat and sat down beside the young man.  “I hope you’re not offended,” he said, “but tell me, why do you keep repeating the word ‘Wonderful’?  Do you feel well? Are you all right?”  The young man smiled broadly and said, “I guess I do appear to be acting strangely, but up until today I was blind.  Several months ago, they began a series of operations on my eyes.  Today they removed the last bandage and for the first time in my life, I can see.  Look there!  See that little stream and old rail fence?  Isn’t it wonderful?  And look! There’s a farmer with a team of horses.  Isn’t it wonderful?” Dr. Moyer describes how, as the train slowed for the next station he went back to his seat.  The young man gathered up his baggage and, as the train came to a stop, took one last look around and said, “Wonderful.  Wonderful.” “I watched him as he jumped from the train.  I saw a lovely young lady wave at him, and then, when he waved back, run into his arms.  I watched them embrace for one long moment, and then I saw him push her out to arms length; hold her there as he looked at her for the first time.  Then I saw his lips move, and they whispered, ‘Wonderful.  Wonderful’. Truly, this is a wonderful salvation.  It surpassed our finite understanding.    Blinded eyes are open.  Sin-stained hearts are cleansed.  Broken lives are healed.  There is new peace.  A new power for today.  A new promise of eternal life tomorrow.  Thanks be to God for such a precious gospel, such a glorious hope, such an awesome Savior.  Saved by the blood of the Lamb. How I wish men and women would not only receive this New Birth, but also glory in it, glow in it and grow in it. The saddest, most unhappy person in the world is a Christian living outside the will of God. Those who once tasted the Lord is good. WHY? Because they know what they missing. They know the peace and indescribable joy of walking close to God. They know the thrill of having prayers answered and seeing souls saved. They know the comfort and protection when all seems lost. They also know their present state and knowing what they could have or should have been. NB!! I believe that there are three steps in this falling away from our Christ calling. #1 Preoccupation (Beheptheid) When a persons life is occupied with the things of the world. (Sower / Seed) Story of the hunter who purchased a new hunting dog: On the hunting trip the dog picked up the trail of a buck.  A fox crossed that trail so he followed the fox’s trail.  A rabbit crossed that trail and off the dog went after the rabbit.  A squirrel crossed the trail and the dog went after the squirrel.  When the hunter caught up with the dog, he found him barking triumphantly at the hole of a field mouse. Like so many Christians:  Such a fine beginning, but such a tragic end. They end up busy with things that have no real eternal significance. End up going through life with no zeal, no passion and no enthusiasm. #2 Indifference (Onverskilligheid) Lack of interest, poor quality, unimportance. The truth is there are those who have grown cold and indifferent to the love of God. Revelation 2:4-5 (Amp) - But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love].  Remember then from what heights you have fallen.  Repent (change the inner man to meet God’s will) and do the works you did previously [when first you knew the Lord], or else I will visit you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you change your mind and repent. It’s understandable for an unsaved person to feel that way, but for a Christian it seems impossible, but the church is full of them. Christians who loved God, prayed and read the Bible regularly, never missed a gathering, a prayer meeting or cell or a church service. But because of preoccupation of the world, they become indifferent to God’s things. Out of indifference grows the 3rd step. #3 Wilful rejection of God’s will for your life. Becoming a Christian is only the start of the race.  It really does matter how you live. Acts 26:20 (Amp) - … and do works and live lives consistent with and worthy of their repentance We cannot just have exterior appearances of a Christian. Our lives must be a reflection of… Acts 24:16 - (Amp) - Therefore I always exercise and discipline myself [mortifying my body, deadening my carnal affections, bodily appetites, and worldly desires, endeavoring* in all respects] to have a clear (unshaken, blameless) conscience, void of offense toward God and toward men. *endeavouring = to earnestly do things 1 Thessalonians 4:3 (Amp) - It is God’s will that you should be sanctified* … *Sanctified:  Set apart; separated for pure and holy living. (Devoted) Ephesians 5:17 (Amp) - Therefore don’t be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. It’s not good enough to watch church on Facebook or Youtube once a week.  That’s not good enough.  God has called us to a life fully surrendered to Him. The good news is: It’s never too late to change. His awesome grace is sufficient for you. Make a quality choice! To surrender. Your want, to God’s will. Colossians 1:9-10(NIV) – 9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will, through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. Develop a positive growth plan. It’s not as important as to how many times you’ve been through the Bible.  It’s how many times has the bible been through you? Are you reading the word this July? (Challenge) Develop faithful habits of… Bible study and prayer; sharing your faith. Titus 3:8 (NIV) - This is a trustworthy saying.  And I want you to stress these things so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote* themselves to doing what is good. *Devote: Give up (oneself) one’s efforts and possessions exclusively to a person. May it be said of you: That you lived a life worthy of your calling like a bride making herself ready.

Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to episode 67 of Refinery Life radio /TV. Our goal here is to release a 2-3 minute video / Podcast each day, designed to challenge you and get you to spend more time with God. Today we are going to talk about, Problems and Perspective. Psalm 119:71 (AMP) It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. Think about this. You and your friend have been close for years, you have never had a cross word between you. But suddenly, you find yourself reacting with harsh, impatient words. You think to yourself where did that come from? And your friend looks st you with a puzzled expression as if asking the same thing. If you were to look beneath the problem, perhaps you would find a wound that needs healing, a jealousy that needs confessing, or a resentment in need of repentance. Problems in life are tools in the Holy Spirits hands to reveal things to us we might never otherwise have considered. Things like the truth about God, or about others, and especially about ourselves. If we respond to the perspective God allows us to see, we can come out more mature on the other side. Think about this, a lesson unlearned is a lesson returned. Remember how Paul asked God to take away his problem in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (ESV) 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. God said no to Paul, but Paul saw something new. He realised that God’s grace is sufficient, so much so that he began opening his arms to problems in order to experience more grace. The next time you experience a problem, pray for a new perspective, and open your heart to embrace what God reveals. Finishing Well Episode 25 Beginning well is a momentary thing; Finishing well is a lifelong thing. ~ Ravi Zacharias ~ One of the greatest legacies we can leave is to finish life well. This is actually a principle found in the Bible, “...let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1, AMP) It is in the normal everyday we can learn to apply this principle. I use the term Lame Duck when I experience someone who doesn’t endure until the end. Someone who is waiting for their time, in a specific role, to be completed and has eased up in their effectiveness. For example, they are moving from one job to the next without completing the tasks at hand. This keeps them from finishing well. Here are three outcomes from this type of behavior.

How can a good God allow human suffering?

Bob Couchenour the first years

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 2, 2008 7:36

"How can a good God allow human suffering?" "What father among you, if his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!" (Luke 11:11-13, AMP) Human beings are capable of both “good” and “evil” deeds and actions. As a matter of our created nature, and as Orthodox theology would espouse, our fallen nature inherited through natural lineage from Adam and Eve and their sin and fall in the garden. Orthodox theology purports that this “fall” tainted ALL of creation with the sin of this transgression, thus allowing into creation the effects of evil and all the accompanying suffering. "The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory. [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us! For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship]. For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it—[yet] with the hope That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children. We know that the whole creation [of irrational creatures] has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God’s sons). " (Romans 8:16-23, AMP) It goes without question that creation is in one hell of a mess. We, humanity, are as much a part of that creation as any rock, tree, cesspool, mountain, ocean, planet, sun, star galaxy or universe. We are subject to the laws and material nature of manifested created reality. Genesis tells us that “God” created… ALL that is. It further tells us that “God” judged and condemned man and mankind for the transgression of one. And we are told that multiplying sin and transgression entered human history, thus compounding the judgments’ to follow and affecting human relations ever since. The effects are unarguable. History, regardless of the source bears out the dilemma humanity finds itself. The question we are faced with is: Is this “God” of creation, the God of judgment, the God of Law, the God of conquering and wiping out entire civilizations, Is this the God that Jesus eludes to as “Our Father in heaven”? Or is it possible that this “creator God”, the God of Israel, the God of the Pharisees, this is the God Jesus referred to as “your father, the devil”? "You are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false. " (John 8:44, AMP) Is it possible that the “God” Jesus came to reveal to us transcends this God of Creation and manifests in us in a deeper dimension and reality than what we can perceive in our “created” natures? Is it possible that “real” “reality” is composed of “life” existent above and beyond this God of Creation and as this “life” is beyond creation, in us it is imperceptible to the “God of Creation”, just as it is imperceptible too all of creation except those the Spirit would reveal it? Is it possible that the defects in creation are there as a matter of reflection of being deficiencies found in this “Creator God”. Can a “good” God allow human suffering? No, I don’t believe so. But the God of creation can. By all that Jesus described the “Father” God as being “good”, it doesn’t square with the God revealed in creation and history. The fact remains that in this “created” world and existence “we will suffer”. Jesus Christ entering and partaking of creation subjected himself to the same creation sufferings that all humanity experiences. But the story does not end with his death, burial and resurrection. The life that he demonstrated is the same life that exists in each and every one of us, imperceptible to the God of creation, but overcoming the deficiencies of creation. The truth is we have lived in ignorance for most of the existence of the churches life. Most of that life has been reliant on natural creations resources to exist in “creation”. Our worship and conception of “God” has been more focused on a God of Judgment inherited from Jewish Talmudic tradition than the Father revealed by Jesus. Much of our current problem is that we, being unexercised in the deep inner reality of the Spirit within us, often confuse our natural minds reason, logic, natural human feelings as being that of the Spirit. Even as noble as our intentions are, and “logical” as our theological premises may be, that which is not truly the actual act of the Spirit from within, rather than our attempts to emulate that which we reason as “Spiritual”, these will ALL come to naught. Even what we perceive and define as “love”, apart from the actual, not emulated but actual, manifestation of the divine within, this too will ultimately turn out to be just another religious waste of time. That does not mean “good” things will not be done. Humans are capable of “good” and “evil” apart from God. It means it was not God, and will end up in the line with those arguing “Lord, Lord did we do. . . in your name?” and the Lord answering “Depart from me, I never knew you.” All this raises a lot of questions, and I’m sure some arguments from traditional orthodox believers, But if it does – that’s cool. It means “real” answers and possibilities will have to be explored and considered. The same old religious B___ S___ won’t do any more. We’re finding out that God – the real “God”, is bigger than that, and closer, and more immediate than religion will allow us to KNOW.
