Good Friday Jesus the Bread of LifeJohn 6:35-40 (NIV)“Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But you haven't believed in me even though you have seen me. However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.  For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father's will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.'” Jesus The Good ShepherdJohn 10:11-17 (NIV)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don't belong to him and he isn't their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. The hired hand runs away because he's working only for the money and doesn't really care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd. The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.” Jesus The Resurrection and the LifeJohn 11:25 (NIV)“ Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.'” Jesus the Light of the WorldJohn 11:9 (NIV)“Jesus replied, ‘There are twelve hours of daylight every day. During the day people can walk safely. They can see because they have the light of this world.'”

John 4, Matthew 9, Colossians 4Society can only exist without God for so long before a critical mass of people longing for identity and purpose intersect with a critical mass of people who have found identity and purpose in a relationship with Christ. These intersections change the course of history.Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV) 35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” 4 Truths from Matthew 9 Crowds of people live without the shepherd covering of Jesus.A lack of Jesus covering results in harassment and helplessness.Uncovered crowds are ripe and ready for what Jesus offers.Jesus ready crowds need more Jesus talking people. People are missing pieces. Missing pieces is frustrating and defeating. A person can know something is missing without knowing what is missing. A person can know what's missing without knowing where to find what's missing. People can tell you that they… Are sad and depressedAre bound up and held backAre helpless to find a way forward Want to be free and favoredHere's the hope…People are missing pieces. Jesus is the missing piece. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)Jesus identifies Himself as…Good news to the poorFreedom for the prisoner & oppressedSight to the blindThe Lord's favorThe crowds might not know Jesus by name and reputation but they do know what's missing from their lives…HopeFreedomWholenessFavorFew Followers of Jesus would argue that we are living in a time of spiritual void yet too few perceive they have a personal role in this harvest opportunity. Jesus is looking to match this unprecedented harvest with an unprecedented number of Jesus talkers! There is a finite number of people who can talk Jesus to a crowd. There is an infinite number of people who can talk Jesus to a person. The key to embracing the role of an Everyday Evangelist is seeing the person apart from the crowd and believing that God is orchestrating an intersection. Divine Appointment: The divine “intersection” of a Jesus Talker and a person in the crowd. John 4:31-35 (NIV) 31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something. 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” 33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?” 34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35 Don't you have a saying, ‘It's still four months until harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. People are missing pieces. Missing pieces is frustrating and defeating. Jesus is the missing piece. Jesus' work is the missing piece to our Real Purpose. There is no way to oversell a fresh relationship with Jesus as the catalyst for our real purpose. There is a reason that many people are reluctant to fearful of talking Jesus – Satan doesn't want Jesus' work finished or His followers full. How do we live out our commission and call as Everyday Evangelists?Embrace talking Jesus is your Real Purpose. Focus on freshness. Ask God for divine appointments. Believe that people are more ready for Jesus than you realize. Trust the Holy Spirit in the encounterActs 4:13 (NIV) When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.Colossians 4:3-6 (NIV) 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

There have been so many views of Jesus developed throughout the year, yet most of them fall far short or are completely false. That is why it is so important for us to know the words Jesus himself spoke to describe who He is! There is no need for a guessing game, arguments, or stretches of the imagination to know Him. He has made Himself known clearly. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15). He is God in flesh, who has dwelt among us (John 1:1-14). He is the Lamb of God who has taken away the sin of the world (John 1:29). He is the One through whom all things were made (John 1:3). Each of these statements of who Jesus is could be seem as claims from others about Him… So what does He Himself claim to be? John 14:6 tells us that Jesus claims to be “The Way, The Truth, and The Life”. This is a HUGE claim from Him, and if it is correct it changes EVERYTHING. Spoiler alert… It IS correct! Come and join us for one of our Easter worship services at MBC where we will look into who Jesus himself says He is! -Pastor Ben Key Verse - John 14:6 (NIV) - "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit" Matthew 7:18 (NIV)Jesus often used imagery to illustrate spiritual truths, and in this passage, He contrasts good fruit with bad fruit to help us understand the condition of our hearts.Good fruit represents the qualities and actions that flow from a life surrendered to God—love, kindness, patience, humility, and integrity. These are the visible signs of a transformed heart. On the other hand, bad fruit signifies the negative behaviors and attitudes that arise when we live apart from God—selfishness, bitterness, anger, and deceit. Pastor Jon challenges us to reflect on the fruit we bear in our lives and invites us to pursue a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. It is only through knowing Him and being fully known by Him that we can experience true transformation—changing from the inside out, and producing the kind of fruit that honors Him.

Introduction: Our Need for ConnectionHumans are wired for connection—it's how we thrive.Illustration: Harlow monkey study – Demonstrates that emotional comfort is more crucial than physical needs. We naturally transition through stages of dependence:Completely dependent → Somewhat dependent → Highly independent → Interdependent → DependentConnecting with others is often the hardest, especially as we get older.Key Point: Conflict is not a sign of dysfunction; it's an opportunity for growth in compassion, empathy, and understanding.Understanding Conflict Through ScriptureLuke 17:1-5 (NIV):Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,' you must forgive them.”The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”Key Takeaways from Luke 17:Expect Offense: Conflict and offenses will happen—it's a part of life.Avoid Living in Offense: Don't dwell on it or let resentment build.Rebuke and Forgive: We are called to address issues and extend forgiveness.Faith is Required: The disciples' response shows that forgiveness requires a heart transformed by faith.Dealing with Offense and ConflictGreek Insight – "Skandalon":The word “offense” (Greek: Skandalon) refers to a trap or stumbling block. In the Bible, skandalon can be positive (offense of the gospel) or negative (causing others to stumble).Ways People Cause Offense:False counselLeading others into deliberate sinGossip, slander, and false accusationsApplication from Luke 17:3:“Watch yourselves” – Take responsibility for your actions and responses.Address conflict with grace and truth, offering opportunities for repentance and healing.Forgiveness as a Spiritual DisciplineLuke 17:4-5:Jesus calls us to forgive repeatedly, even when offenses happen multiple times a day.The apostles ask for greater faith, recognizing the challenge of radical forgiveness.Ephesians 4:32 (NIV):"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."Key Point: Unforgiveness is more damaging to us than to those who hurt us. It keeps us in spiritual darkness and hinders our growth.Practical Steps to Becoming UnoffendableLuke 17:6 (NIV):“He replied, ‘If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it will obey you.'”Steps to Overcoming Offense:Expect Offense: Don't be surprised when conflict arises.Address Offense: Speak truth in love rather than resorting to silence or violence.Forgive Often: Practice ongoing forgiveness as an act of obedience and faith.Choose Interdependence: Healthy relationships thrive on mutual respect and grace.Take Small Steps: Even the smallest act of forgiveness can create lasting transformation.1 John 2:9-11 (NIV):9. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.10. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.11. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going because the darkness has blinded them.Challenge: What small action can you take today to live in the light and embrace forgiveness?

Advent Day 23 - The Greatest CommandmentScripture: Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"Hey friends! Today's scripture is a familiar one but always worth revisiting. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus sums up the entire law with two commandments: Love God and love your neighbor. It's like the Prime Directive in Star Trek, the core principle that guides all actions. For us, love is that guiding principle. Loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind means putting Him first in everything. It's about an all-encompassing, passionate relationship with our Creator. The second part is loving our neighbor as ourselves. That's sometimes easier said than done, right? Neighbors aren't just the people who live next door—they're coworkers, family members, even that person who cuts you off in traffic.Loving others means showing kindness, patience, and compassion, even when it's inconvenient. It's about seeing people through God's eyes, made in His image and valuing them as He does.Prayer:Dear God, help us to love You with all that we are. Teach us to prioritize our relationship with You above all else. Also, help us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Give us the grace to show genuine love to those around us, reflecting Your love in our actions. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy

Do you remember what it was like falling in “like” with your spouse?  What was it that originally drew you to them? Maybe it was their humor, kindness, or how they made you feel seen and appreciated. Over time, it's easy for that “like” to fade.  Instead, criticism, judgment, or even indifference creeps in.  But imagine being in your spouse's shoes—everything they say and do, examined under a magnifying glass, critiqued and picked apart. That kind of scrutiny doesn't help them thrive. And nothing wounds deeper than feeling that the person you chose, the one closest to you, doesn't actually like you. What if, instead, you accepted their weaknesses and quirks? After all, they have them, and so do you.  What if you chose to see their strengths instead? What if you noticed what they're doing right and spoke it out loud? I want to encourage you to take that step. Scripture is clear about encouragement and loving our neighbors: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV) “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV) “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” Philippians 2:3 (NIV) “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10 (ESV) “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2 (NIV) Your spouse needs to know that you see the good in them. That you still like them. That you're rooting for them, not against them. It's amazing what a little grace and encouragement can do to rebuild connection and joy. This Christmas week, I invite you to be gracious with your spouse. Notice the small things—their kindness, their effort, their dedication—and let them know you see it. Accept their weaknesses, support them gently, and call out the good that God has placed in them. God bless you, and from all of us here at Delight Your Marriage, Merry Christmas! Luke 22:39-52 (NIV) 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[a] 45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Jesus Arrested 47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man's ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? Matthew 26:52-54 (NIV) 52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” John 18:10-11 (NIV) 10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) 11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” 1 | Preserved Peace In The Pressure Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) You will keep in perfect peace  those whose minds are steadfast,  because they trust in you. John 18:3-9 (NIV)  So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. 4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?” 5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they said. 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”[a] John 18:36 (NIV) 36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” Philippians 4:7  (NIV) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 2 | Preserved Purpose In The Pain John 18:11 (NIV) Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Message for 10/06/2024 "Jesus Raises the Temperature" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* John 14:6 - Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 4:13-14 - Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” Matthew 20:20-21 - Then the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus with her sons. She knelt respectfully to ask a favor.21 “What is your request?” he asked. She replied, “In your Kingdom, please let my two sons sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.” Matthew 20:29-34 - As Jesus and the disciples left the town of Jericho, a large crowd followed behind. 30 Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 31 “Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 “Lord,” they said, “we want to see!” 34 Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! Then they followed him. Luke 18:35 NIV - As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. Matthew 21:1-11 NIV - As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'” Matthew 21:6-11 NIV The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” 10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” Matthew 21:12-16 NIV - Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,”he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,” but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.'” John 2:18-22 - But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.” 19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?” 21 But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said. Matthew 21:14 -17 - The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. 16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise'?” 17 Then he returned to Bethany, where he stayed overnight. Matthew 21:18-22 - In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry, 19 and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up. 20 The disciples were amazed when they saw this and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” 21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don't doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” Hosea 9:10 - The Lord says, “O Israel, when I first found you, it was like finding fresh grapes in the desert. When I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the first ripe figs of the season. But then they deserted me for Baal-peor, giving themselves to that shameful idol. Soon they became vile, as vile as the god they worshiped. Matthew 7:15-19 - “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 - Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? 17 God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. Psalm 139:1-6 - O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! Psalm 139:23-24 - Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Pastor Damaris Solis brings this week's message, “It is Written." Key Verse: Luke 4.1-13 NIV: “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.'” The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'” The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'” Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.” Genesis 3.1-6NLT: “The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'” “You won't die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced.” Sermon Topics: Temptation, Scripture, Preparation If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Parables // Jesus Wants To Do A New Thing In Your Life  Luke 5:27-39 (NIV)“Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. ‘Follow me,' Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?'Jesus answered them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.'They said to him, ‘John's disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.'Jesus answered, ‘Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.'He told them this parable: ‘No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.'”     1.     Jesus came to give you a spirit of joy not burdensome sorrow. Psalm 34:8 (NIV)“Taste and see that the Lord is good;”Isaiah 61:3 (NIV)“to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” 2.     Jesus came to do something brand new in your life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 3.     Resisting what Jesus is doing will cause your life to get messy.Hebrews 3:7-9 (NIV)“So, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did.'”

Today, we will explore the second part of His prayer in John 17, where Jesus prays for His apostles.Transition to Praying for the Apostles. (John 17:6-8 (NIV): Here, Jesus shifts from praying for Himself to praying for His apostles. He emphasizes their understanding and acceptance of His teachings, and their belief in His divine origin. Two Main Requests for the ApostlesProtection from sin (John 17:6-15).Perfection in service (John 17:16-19).These can be summarized by the theological term sanctification—being set apart for God's holy purpose.Jesus describes the apostles as:Given to Him by the Father.Having kept the Father's word.Knowing and believing that Jesus is sent from God.The Petition for Protection - John 17:9-12 (NIV):Jesus prays for the apostles to be protected from the world. He emphasizes:They belong to God.He is leaving them in the world.Their need for joy and fulfilment in their mission. In the World but not of the World - John 17:13-15 (NIV): Jesus highlights the need for the apostles to be in the world but not of it. He prays for their protection, not isolation.Sanctification and Mission -John 17:16-19 (NIV): Jesus prays for the apostles to be sanctified in truth, emphasizing:Their mission to the world. The importance of being set apart for God's purpose. The cooperative process of sanctification involving both God and the apostles.Application for TodayWe, too, are called to be in the world but not of it. We should engage with the world while remaining distinct and holy. This involves:Protection from evil.Commitment to God's service.Living out God's word.ConclusionJesus' prayer for His apostles is a powerful reminder of our calling. We are to be in the world, protected from evil, and sanctified for His service. Through His word, we are equipped to fulfil His mission. Let us live lives that reflect His glory, engage with the world, and remain fully dedicated to His purposes.Preview of Part ThreeIn the next part of our study, we will see Jesus praying for all believers, including us today. This highlights the inclusiveness of His prayer and His concern for all who would follow Him.Support the Show.Jeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | June 30, 2024 1 Corinthians 7:26b-31 (NIV)I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is. Are you pledged to a woman? Do not seek to be released. Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. Matthew 22:29-30 (NIV)Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Hebrews 12:1b-2 (NIV)And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Romans 12:2 (NIV)Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. LIES WE BELIEVE ABOUT SINGLENESS: 1. Singleness means FAILURE.2. Singleness means no INTIMACY … 2 Samuel 1:26 (NIV) 3. Singleness means no FAMILY. Mark 3:33-35 (NIV)“Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 19:28-29 (NIV)Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. Reflection Questions: 1. What aspects of church culture can make it challenging for single people?2. What perspectives about singleness do we need to have in order to navigate singleness in a healthy and biblical way?3. What is God’s perspective on singleness?4. What are some wrong perspectives we can have about singleness? What are some lies we can believe about being single?5. Why is important for all people in a church family to have the perspective that singleness is valuable and viable way to live out our walk of faith?6. Reflect on these statements… Singleness does mean no intimacy. Intimacy does not mean romance/sex. Agree or Disagree? Explain. How can single people cultivate intimacy outside of romantic/sexual relationships?7. How can married people in a church family love and care for single people? And vice versa? What are tangible ways we can love and support each other?8. If you are married, do you have single people from the church that are close to you? How could you grow your connection with them?9. Read Matthew 22:23-29. Why is it important to remember that none of us will be married for eternity in heaven? How does that reality impact your thinking? How does that reality change the way we view marriage and singleness? Next Steps: Complete the Connect Card to receive more information, have us pray for you, or to ask us any question: http://

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | June 9, 2024 “Humility is the single greatest and most indispensable attribute of being a team player.”— Patrick Lencioni, The Ideal Team Player p. 157 1 Peter 5:5b-6 (NIV) Philippians 2:3-8 (NIV) Jesus modeled “choosing to lose”. 1. Jesus saw the needs of others – ahead of his own. John 13:1 (NIV) 2. Jesus used his authority to serve others. Mark 9:35 3. Jesus served those who were difficult to love. John 13:2 (NIV) John 13:15-17 (NIV) 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV) “If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize that one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least, nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed.” — C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity John 13:34-35 (NIV) “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Reflection Questions: 1. In light of 1 Peter 5:5, why does God oppose pride and show favor to humility?2. How would you define humility? How would you know if you are humble?3. Why is humility a cornerstone of healthy relationships?4. How have you seen a lack of humility damage relationships in your life?Read John 13:1-175. How does Jesus model humility in this passage? How is he “not looking to his own interests but to the interests of others”?6. How can we grow in focusing on the needs of others and choosing to put those needs ahead of our own?7. Where is a place in your life (influence/power/position/time) that you could serve the needs of those around you? How will you do it? When?8. Jesus modeled humility by loving and serving those that would abandon, deny, and betray Him. How could love people in your life that may sometimes be difficult to love? Who is someone you could serve now that is difficult to love? What is a practical way to serve them?9. In John 13:15-17, Jesus promises a blessed life if we follow his example. How can living this way live to a blessed life? Won’t we miss out if we constantly focusing on others? Who will look out for us and meet our needs?10. Humility is sometimes referred to as the “shyest” of all virtues. When you to talk about it or focus on it, it goes away. What do you think that means? How are we then to work on growing in humility?11. How are “insecurity” and “arrogance” both a form of pride? How can insecurity be a more subtle form of pride? How can insecurity even look like humility? How can we see that in ourselves? Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.”  4.     Freedom from the fear of death Hebrews 2:14-15 (NIV)“[Jesus] shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” 1 Corinthians 15:55 (NIV)“Where, O death, is your victory?                   Where, O death, is your sting?”

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | May 12, 20241) We were designed for healthy relationships.2) Healthy relationships matter to Jesus.3) Healthy relationships matter to the mission of Jesus. “To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.” — C. S. Lewis, The Four Loves, p. 169 Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 5:23-24 (NIV)“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. John 13:34-35 (NIV)“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 17:20-21 (NIV)“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. Romans 12:14-18 (NIV)Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Reflection Questions:1. In what ways have you experienced the beauty (joys) of relationships in this life?2. In what ways have you experienced the pain (wounds) of relationships in this life?3. From your experience, what makes healthy relationships difficult to maintain? Share some ways you have experienced challenging relationships.4. Brian Priebe | Executive Pastor | May 5, 2024 Are you praying for things that only God can do? Mark 8:27-29a (NIV) Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” John 5:16-18 (NIV) John 8:54-59 (NIV) John 10:30-33 (NIV) John 20:26-29(NIV) Matthew 16:16 (NIV) CS Lewis’ Trilema from Mere Christianity:“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him (Jesus): I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” Acts 12:15-16 (NIV) Psalm 1:2-3 (NIV) Are you praying for things that only God can do?Is your faith growing? Is loving others your priority? Reflection Questions: Read John 5:16-18, 8:54-59, 10:30-33 and 20:26-29. What stands out as you look at passages that claim Jesus' divinity?Read Mark 8:27-29 and Matt 16:13-16. What are the ways you would answer Jesus' question, 'Who do you say I am?’In light of Jesus' divinity, Are you praying for things that only God can do? Why or why not? What things could you be praying for that would fit that description? In light of Jesus' divinity, Is your faith growing? Why or why not? What things could you be doing that could help your faith grow?In light of Jesus' divinity, Is loving others your priority? Why or why not? What things could you be doing that would make loving others your priority? Three additional questions to unpack loving others... a) Do you prioritize understanding others or being understood? b) How easily are you offended? c) Do you have margin in your week to have your plans interrupted by people? Logan Holloman | NextGen Pastor | April 14, 2024 John 5:1-7 (NIV)Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Jesus- invitation to be made whole “do you want to be well” Pool- what we look to for wholeness and healing. What’s your pool? John 5:8-15 (NIV)Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.” But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’” So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?” The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well. Mat- symbolic of sin/pain used for Jesus’ purposes in our lives. What’s your mat? God never wastes our suffering John 1:29b (NIV)“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 20:30-31 (NIV)Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. Jesus’ invitation …is to be made whole, …it’s beyond our pools …he’ll redeem/use our mats Reflection Questions:1. What is one felt need you are aware of at the moment?2. What gets in the way (i.e. fear, control, lack of trust) of receiving what God wants to do for, in, or through us?3. In the church, we commemorate it as Palm Sunday, marking Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. On this day, Jesus of Nazareth orchestrated a symbolic yet profound event, fulfilling the prophecy of the coming Messiah as foretold by Zechariah (Zech 9:9).  Zech 9:9 - Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (NIV) Jesus enacted this prophecy in a tangible way. It's no mere coincidence. While Pilate oversees Passover festivities on the west side of the Temple, poised to quell any potential unrest, Jesus deliberately chooses to enter Jerusalem riding on a humble donkey, devoid of weaponry. It's a stark departure from the anticipated image of a triumphant Messiah riding on a war horse. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thekingdom4everyone/support

In week two, Duane Calvin shares about the ghost of grief. Message Notes: Jesus shows up in our grief. The ghost of grief is one that shows up in just about every area of our lives. John 20:11-14 (NIV)Looking for Jesus in our grieving means that even in the midst of our loss we look for Him to show us the way to hope. Followers of Christ never grieve alone. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NIV)Psalms 34:18 (NIV)Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)Matthew 28 (NIV)As Christians we grieve differently because we know Christ, and it means that we never have to grieve alone. John 20:15-16 (NIV)Jesus comforts us in our grief. Our current grief has no comparison to our future glory. John 20:17-18 (NIV)Allow yourself to grieve and, in your grieving, look for Jesus. Remember that you should never grieve alone, and you don't have to allow the ghost of grief to dictate your current condition.

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | January 28, 2024 Mark 2:17 (NIV)Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Romans 1:18-20 (NIV)The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Psalm 19:1-4 (NIV)The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Romans 1:21-23 (NIV)For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. How do you identify your idols? Reflection Questions: What comes to mind when you think about God’s wrath? How has God revealed Himself through creation? What do you see in nature that points to a Creator? What evidence to you see in culture that people suppress the truth about the existence of God? How do people live as if there is no God? How do you see evidence of people worshipping creation rather than the Creator?Paul describes God’s wrath against godlessness (not loving God with our heart and life) and wickedness (not loving our neighbor – people made in God’s image). How do you see godlessness and wickedness in your life? Is it hard to use those words to describe you and your life? Explain. If we define idolatry as taking a good thing and making it a God thing (or an ultimate thing)… How do you see evidence of idolatry in our culture? In the church? In your life? Why can it be difficult to identify idols in our life? Questions to identify potential idols in our life… What do I worry about most? What, if I failed or lost it, would cause me to feel that I did not even want to live? What keeps me going? What do I rely on or comfort myself with when things go bad or get difficult? What do I think most easily about? What does my mind go to when I am free to daydream? What preoccupies me?What prayer, unanswered, would make me seriously think about turning away from God?What makes me feel the most self-worth?What am I proudest of?What do I really want and expect out of life? What would really make me happy?Where does my money, time, and energy flow freely and easily? In Matthew 18:18-19 (NIV) Jesus said, “I truly tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” There is power in prayer and if we humble ourselves today and seek God's face, powerful things are bound to happen! Kingsway Christian Church Sermons - Audio

Sermon Notes Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" The "Law" = the Torah (the first 5 books). There are 613 laws in the Torah. Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭27 ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Pay attention to your inner motives. Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭30‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭33‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. "he took pity on him." = he felt an aching in his gut (compassion) Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭34‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. To really live means to feel an ache in your gut for others that moves you into action. Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭35‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'" If you want to honor Jesus, then plan to be generous with your life and resources. Last year, 44 people were sent globally; 100 were sent locally! Will God evaluate me as generous with my life and resources? Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭36 ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭37‬a NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." $500,000+ collected // $2,100,000 committed Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭37‬b NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

Sermon Notes ‭‭Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it." Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭31‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ They (Moses and Elijah) spoke about his departure (exodus), which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭43‬-‭45‬ ‭NIV And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, "Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭51‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Jesus' reason for existing is abundantly clear to Him: He came to bring glory to His Father by reconciling the world back to Him. Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ "For the Son of Man (Jesus) came to seek and to save the lost." Bottom Line: Putting Jesus first means arranging my priorities to match God's priorities. Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭57‬NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬ As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭58‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." Follow Jesus no matter the cost. Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭59‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ He said to another man, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭60‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." The 10 Commandments: 1. No other gods. 2. Do not make idols. 3. Honor the name of the Lord. 4. Keep the Sabbath holy. 5. Honor your father and your mother. Follow Jesus before your family and social commitments. Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭61‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family." Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭62‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." Follow Jesus and don't look back. 1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye," he said, "and then I will come with you." "Go back," Elijah replied. "What have I done to you?" So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant. - ‭‭ Jesus, Matthew 6:10 "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." In today's podcast, we delve into the meaning and history of Advent, a season of hope, expectation, and waiting. Stasi shares stories from her own family traditions, showing us that Advent means so much more than a countdown to Christmas. It is a time to reflect on faith, hope, joy, and peace. It is a time to remember how Christ came and all that he has done for us—while looking forward with great anticipation to the promise that he will come again and make all things new.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV) — Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”Isaiah 7:14 (NIV) — Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.Matthew 2:1 (NIV) — Incarnation: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to JerusalemJohn 1:29–31 (NIV) — Baptism: The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! …John 2:1–10 (NIV) — Jesus' first miracle: …On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, …Acts 2:17 (NIV) — In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.Hebrews 1:2 (NIV) — but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.Isaiah 9:2–7 (NIV) — Week of HopeIsaiah 40:1–11 (NIV) — Week of FaithLuke 2:1–21 (NIV) — Week of Joy (the Christmas Story)John 2:13–14 (NIV) — Week of PeaceJohn 3:16 (NIV) — Love:  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.John 1:17–18 (NIV) — For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.…..OTHER RESOURCES:Dietrich Bonhoeffer quote: “The Celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward ot something greater to come.”Matthew Kelly quote: “God of hope, I look to you with an open heart and yearning spirit. During this Advent season, I will keep alert and awake, listening for your word and keeping to your precepts. My hope is in you.”Karl Barth quote: “Unfulfilled and fulfilled promise are related to each other, as are dawn and sunrise…then it is precisely in the light of the coming of Christ that faith has become Advent faith, the expectation of future revelation. But faith knows for whom and for what it is waiting. It is fulfilled faith because it lays hold on the fulfilled promise.” Renee Swope from Proverbs 31 Ministries Poem: The Manger of My Hearthttps://reneeswope.com/christmas-prayer/…..Don't Miss Out on the Next Episode – Subscribe for FreeSubscribe using your favorite podcast app:Spotify Podcasts – https://spoti.fi/42SsOipApple Podcasts – https://apple.co/42E0oZ1 Google Podcasts – http://wahe.art/3M81kxLAmazon Music & Audible – https://amzn.to/3M9u6hJ
