A 2,500 word content piece is impressive. Those with the budget will be impressed. People want experts who know what they are doing, so your thorough blog post is a sophisticated calling card. How long should your blog post? 1-2,000 or 2,500? Is there a harder rule on length of copy? Over 70% of posts on page one, that ranks well, it will be 2,500 words plus. Why that length? On August 1, Google pushed out it’s latest algorithm update and apparently, it totally rocked the internet. Kings and queens of rankings were dethroned, and other websites who struggled to crack page 1 were suddenly boosted. So in today’s Pep Talk, I’m going to share what the update is, why it matters to side hustlers, entrepreneurs, bloggers, and online businesses and what you can do to make sure your website is optimized for this latest update. This latest algorithm update has to do with what Google calls YMYL, or Your Money or Your Life websites. Your Money or Your Life websites according to Google content that “could potentially impact the future happiness, health, financial stability, or safety of users.” And then in Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines, which I’ll link to in the show notes, they define these sites pretty broadly – so any site where you can buy something – which affects your money, and then financial information sites, medical, legal, news, and the other. So what’s happening is that sites like this are being held to a higher standard when it comes to Expertise, Authority, and Trust – or as everyone in the SEO industry calls, it, EAT. So like, if you have a legal website and you’re hiring a bunch of writers to churn out content for this blog and none of them are actual lawyers, there’s no telling who wrote the articles and you don’t have any indication of whether the content is credible or not, Google doesn’t like that. I found some great info on this latest update from MarieHaynes.com and the Moz Blog. Both sites talk about how this Your Money or Your Life update has hit huge websites that rely on SEO as their main traffic strategy, like Livestrong, and Prevention, and Dr. Axe.com all seeing pretty big drops in traffic because their content affects your health, and the Expertise, Authority, and Trust was apparently not up to par with Google’s standards. But what does this mean for people like us? What about bloggers who write about all kinds of topics including personal finance and health and a limitless number of topics related to Your Money or Your Life. That’s what blogging is all about, right? The majority of bloggers are trying to “impact the future happiness, health, financial stability, or safety of users.” Most of them are trying to have a positive impact, and most of them are also trying to monetize their blogs in some way, so that’s both your money and your life. What about you? Does your side hustle affect anyone’s money or their life? I really, really hope so! Because why would you do it if you weren’t going to make money through helping someone improve their life? As Zig Ziglar says, “You can have everything you want in life if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” Personally, I wasn’t affected. I looked at my Google Analytics and my number of website visitors increased 6.81% in the first week of August – but I’ve totally been working on my Pinterest game and I honestly don’t put a whole lot into SEO – right or wrong, it’s just not been a tactic of mine to focus on because it has seemed like a game a little fish in a big pond like me can’t really win.. But…I think this algorithm change is a great thing for people like me. Like us. Here’s what I think it means: You have an opportunity to stand out online more now than ever before. I think it means that it’s more important than ever before for you to step up and share your knowledge with the world. Trust is starting to shift away from big brands and big businesses back to people. Individual people. I heard this at Social Media Marketing World back in March when the founder Michael Stelzner was talking about the Facebook algorithm change that everyone was freaking out about, how Facebook would focus on showing content in the newsfeed that had meaningful interaction from real people. Not likes, not one-word comments, but actual comments and conversations in the threads. People talking to each other. And he also said that a smaller, more highly engaged audience is more valuable than a large one. Brands know this. That’s why they aren’t only paying people with ginormous followings like the Kardashians for sponsored content, they are looking at micro-influencers – people with smaller, more highly engaged audiences that have a strong reputation with their audience. This Google algorithm change just reinforces that whole entire concept. Because how they are holding the Your Money or Your Life blogs and websites to a higher standard is by reviewing the Expertise, Authority, and Trust of the website. How? Well, they’re looking at the About page for one to see if they can tell who is behind the website. They’re looking for author bios on blog posts. And they’re looking at your external reputation – meaning, do you exist online outside of your website? Are you on other social media platforms? Are you like, a real live person? Are you meaningfully contributing to your industry? So tactically, how can you make sure your website or blog is optimized for these latest changes? Marie Haynes says to display all of your E-A-T on your about page. She says to make it “full of reasons why you are known as the most authoritative business in your vertical. Brag about awards won, press recognition, years of experience and more.” Maybe this is just my personality, but when I read that I think Ew!! And then I think, okay, but be careful how you do this. I think it’s great for companies to lead with that stuff, but for me, my About page is really an opportunity for me to yes, share more about me and why I’m the right person to help you, but done so in a way that’s really talking about YOU and how Your Money and Your Life will improve by being a part of my community. So my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and my One Woman Shop 100 Best Sites for Solopreneurs and all the places I’ve guest posted and been featured, what do you care? If you need to know that to trust me AFTER you’ve learned why I’m the best person to help you get what you want, fine, I’ll put it at the end. But I’m not going to lead with it. So tactically, on your About page, put a photo of yourself, tell your story and why your experiences make you qualified to help people who are just a little bit behind your on your journey. You have to have a degree and be certified in your niche to live up to Google’s standards of expertise, authority and trust. Then, you’ll want to enable author bios on all of your blog posts, and spruce up your WordPress bio. Link to all of your social profiles and be a real person on those channels! Does that mean you have to spend all of your time on social? No. But having a presence will help. Make sure your website is optimized to build your email list!!! What’s the point of getting traffic if you have no way to communicate with them after the fact!!! Finally, SEO is just one tool in your toolbox. There are many, many other ways to connect with your ideal client online. Social media. Pinterest. YouTube. Guest Posting. Relationship building. Tapping your personal network. Even paid advertising! The list goes on. So if this focus on Expertise, Authority and Trust has you feeling like a bit of an imposter, here’s what I want you to focus on instead. Show up. Consistently. Create awesome content, and create a community around that content. And you also need to make sure that your website is all about the Know, Like and Trust factor. Know Like and Trust is a common marketing term, and it’s the foundation behind the whole way I teach people to build their website. Everything I teach inside of the Free 5 Day Website Challenge revolves around building a website that oozes Know, Like and Trust. Once people know, like and trust you, you become seen as an expert on a topic, which raises your authority and broadens your trust – and now you have Google’s EAT. And I talk to a lot of clients that tell me how much they hate social media. They don’t want their personal network to know about their side hustle. They aren’t ready for people to find out, so they avoid social media and try to SEO-optimize the heck out of their blog hoping that they’ll come up in Google search results, and then when they aren’t getting traffic they get discouraged. Trust me, I get it. I did the same thing when I first started out. But what’s going to work online in 2018 and beyond is not hiding behind your blog. Because people want to connect with people, and they are more than just website traffic. I don’t want you to think about traffic. I want you to think about people. About that one person who comes to your site, reads something that you wrote, takes action on it and changes their life. Those people exist. I hear from them all of the time and it’s amazing! So what this algorithm change means from my perspective? I think it means that if you really want your side hustle to work out, if you want it to turn into your full-time gig or have it make enough money for you to pay off your debt or stay at home with your kids or let you travel or whatever it is that you want, then you can’t be scared to stand up and say what you know about a topic. You must put intentional effort into creating amazing, shareworthy content. And you have to build a community around that content on social media. That’s how you’re going to win in 2018 and beyond, by building a highly engaged audience of people that know, like and trust you which helps you build your expertise and authority online. And when you have that, you can monetize with integrity, through affiliate marketing, through sponsorships, through offering your own services or creating your own products and courses. Anuncio Campus EPISODIO 21 COMO AUMENTAR LA VISIBILIDAD DE TU BLOG Si tu blog no consigue aumentar el numero de visitas, ha llegado la hora de aumentar visibilidad y conseguir mayor numero de visitas. Si tu blog no supera las 100 visitas al día, y no se produce ningún repunte desde hace tiempo, es como si todo se hubiera detenido, va llegando el momento de hacer algo al respecto. Seguramente estas haciendo algo mal y lo primero que tienes que hacer es adivinar que haces mal o mejor aun, que no haces bien. Te voy a dar dos pautas que te ayudaran a conseguir aumentar visibilidad de tu blog, y con las visitas te llegaran las primeras ventas. CUIDA EL SEO DE TUS POST Obvio verdad? pero muchos no lo hacen y a lo mejor tu puedes ser uno de ellos. Empieza por instalar un plugin SEO en tu blog si no lo tienes ya, pues te ayudara enormemente a la hora de hacer un buen SEO en tus entradas. Las palabras claves que utilices pueden por si solas asegurar el post al éxito o al fracaso, por ese motivo analiza las tendencias de búsquedas. Puedes utilizar Google Insights para hacerlo, es una herramienta gratuita que te da un claro resumen de las tendencias de búsquedas en google. Si sabes lo que la gente busca en internet, igual puedes crear algún post interesante al referente no crees? De igual manera tener claras cuales son las palabras claves que quieres trabajar en tu post te ayudara a la hora de aumentar tu SEO. Hay unos puntos básicos que debe de cumplir tu estrategia de SEO y son las siguientes; Añade las palabras claves en los encabezamientos a de tus post Añade las palabras claves en las meta etiqueta descripción de tus post Intenta conseguir un backlink de calidad en algun blog de tu competencia Añade las palabras claves en el nombre de las imágenes que utilices para tu post. Mantén una buena estructura de enlaces internos entre tus post ya publicados. Y en cuanto a los enlaces desde otras paginas, es decir back link, debes primero crear una lista de los blogs en los cuales te gustaría conseguir esos enlaces y ir a buscarlos. Una herramienta que te funcionara muy bien, es comentar en los comentarios los post de tu colegas de nicho de mercado. Pero ojo, no escribas cualquier cosa, estos comentarios deben de ser de calidad, y como siempre actuando como un experto en ese nicho de mercado. CUIDA TU NETWORKING El networking para mi es otra de las grandes bases para conseguir aumentar visibilidad en tu blog. Saber relacionarte con otros bloggers y ser capaz de escribir como invitado en ellos te hará subir la visibilidad de forma rápida. Te sugiero que le eches un vistazo al siguiente post que escribí hace algun tiempo sobre Guest posting GUEST POSTING Si quieres conocer el Guest Posting y todo lo relacionado con el Networking para conseguir aumentar tus visitas, sin duda esto te ayudara. CURSO GUEST POSTING Pero veamos algunas estrategias que te ayudaran a lanzar tu blog. Hazte amigo de blogger influyentes en tu nicho de mercado Ya te adelanto que no es fácil y que necesitaras tiempo y paciencia y sobretodo, ser capaz de convencerles que tu trabajo merece su atención. Por ese motivo antes ni de siquiera empezar a intentarlo, deberas de escribir el mejor contenido que jamas se haya publicado sobre tu nicho de mercado. Cuando seas capaz de hacer algo así, estarás en disposición de captar la atención de mejores bloggers que tu. Para conseguir algo asi, sin duda deberas ser capaz de formarte día a día, y de leer a los mejores con el único fin de convertirte en el mejor experto posible en este nicho de mercado. Solo si realmente eres un experto serás capaz de hacer un Guest Posting y un Networking de verdad. Pero ojo, el Networking también puedes hacerlo con tus amigos. Porque no empiezas pidiendo a todos tus amigos que compartan algún post tuyo o tu contenido. Si encima tus amigos comparten contigo tu nicho de mercado, sin duda estos amigos se pueden convertir en auténticos envagelistas de tu trabajo. Entrevista a los mejores. Como ya sabéis es una herramienta que utilizo con bastante frecuencia, para ser mas concreto cada miércoles, publico una entrevista a un blogger amigo. Puedo decir que el miércoles es uno de los mejores días en mi blog, pues gracias a que el entrevistado comparte la entrevista en sus redes sociales y con su audiencia, soy capaz de aumentar la visibilidad del post de una forma considerable. Participa en grupos y Foros Participar en grupos y foros es una buena forma que encontrar para aumentar visibilidad. Pero de la misma manera que a la hora de darte a conocer con los blogger mas influyentes, en los foros deberas actuar idea igual forma. Y esta forma es actuado y siendo un verdadero experto en tu nicho de mercado Cuando mas concreto y especializado sea tu nicho de mercado, mas claro tendrás como ser ese experto que te estoy comentando. En definitiva, aumentar visibilidad de tu blog no es tarea fácil, pero con los consejos que te he dado, seguro que consigues aumentar el numero de visitas de tu blog. Hoy me gustaría poder hablar sobre como aumentar las visitas de tu web, que tengo claro que es una de las preocupaciones que tenéis la mayoría que ha empezado a crear su propio web. Intentare darte unas sencillas estrategias que sin duda te ayudara a conseguir tu objetivo y aumentar las visitas de tu web. La perseverancia es el primer consejo que te voy a dar, pero hay algunos mas.. vamos a por ellos¡¡¡ Comunicate; No hace falta que te diga que para cualquier negocio, ya sea on line o off line el networking es una de las claves y al cual debes de darle la mayor de las prioridades posibles. Seguramente en tu anterior etapa profesional en los últimos años tengas ya una base de contacto, de antiguos compañeros, clientes, etc.. Pues dirigirte a ellos antes que nada, cuando ya tengas tu web preparada y el contenido empiece a ser importante y de valor, comparte con ellos tu trabajo. No dudes en quedar también con ellos para tomar un cafe, y así poder explicarles tu experiencia y tu proyecto de forma personal. Esta técnica sin duda te ayudara a aumentar las visitas en tu web. Crea las alianzas necesarias con otros blogs, contacta con ellos, pero ojo¡¡ no con todos, lo mejor de todo es que sean de la temática de tu nicho de mercado. Que te vean; Otra forma de aumentar las visitas a tu blog es comentar las publicaciones interesantes de otros blogs. No se trata de hacer un comentario interminable, sino que aportar el valor necesario a los lectores y que vean que eres un experto de la materia, y tengan la necesidad, o curiosidad de visitar tu blog. Comentar es una excelente forma de aumentar las visitas a tu web, y te animo a que lo hagas en aquellos blogs de temática parecida a la tuya, que mas te pueda interesar. De igual manera que debes de comentar otras publicaciones de blogs de temáticas parecidas a las tuyas, están los foros profesionales que te ayudara a crearte una reputación. No olvides pero, de añadir tu firma y que te puedan localizar de forma sencilla los lectores del foro. Estas dos ultimas técnicas para aumentar las visitas de tu web son muy parecidas, y alcanzar su mayores resultados si somos capaces de hacerlas de forma continuada en el tiempo. No te olvides del SEO; Para conseguir aumentar las visitas de tu web, no te puedes permitir el lujo de olvidarte de las técnicas de SEO y sobretodo no olvidarte de que a veces estas escribiendo para Google. El titulo que eliges para tu publicación y el titulo HTML es uno de los factores a tener en cuenta, así como saber elegir las palabras claves aceptadas y adecuadas en cada momento. Existen algunos plugin que te ayudaran en este tema, te recomiendo que le eches un vistazo al curso que existe en el Campus Virtual al respecto. Una de las grandes ventajas del SEO es que es gratuito y suele ser rentable con el paso del tiempo, y el publico que llega a tu web lo hace de forma natural. Guest Posting; Otra gran estrategia para aumentar las visitas a tu web es escribir algún post como autor invitado, lo que se llama (Guest Posting) Es una gran estrategia, y lo único que tienes que haces es conseguir que alguien de gran relevancia te deje escribir un post en su web. Aprovecha ese post para poner algún enlace hacia tu web y una foto tuya, si es posible, para que sus lectores te empiecen a conocer. Es totalmente proporcionar las visitas que vas a tener, a las que tenga el blog donde vas a escribir, por ese motivo siempre dará mayor resultado el escribir en algún blog de éxito. No es fácil, pero forma parte del Networking y te lo recomiendo totalmente. Redes Sociales; Aunque a estas alturas del camino, es algo que tienes que tener mas que claro, no esta nada mal recordar que una de las grandes estrategias para aumentar visitas a tu web es escribir y compartir en redes sociales. Yo siempre te voy a recomendar las tres que mejor me han funcionado a mi, Facebook, Twitter y Google +, aunque para cada nicho de mercado y cada audiencia se pueden utilizar las que mejor se adapten a tu proyecto. Prueba también con algún video en YouTube, videos cortos, y demuestra a tu audiencia de que sabes de lo que estas hablando. Eso nuevamente te aumentara la reputación y consiguieras aumentar las visitas de tu web. Explicar de que va este proyecto. She had a newborn at home! And not long after Rowan was past the newborn stage, Rachel became pregnant with her second child. Rachel knows just how important those first few months and years can be for a child's development, and she didn't want to miss out on a second with Rowan. Rachel began coming up with great activities she could do with Rowan to help him grow, learn, and develop. And she started doing these creative activities when Rowan was a newborn! Rachel didn't expect to become a stay-at-home Mamapreneur but when she shared on her personal Facebook account what she and Rowan were up to, her friends were so impressed. Many other parents found her posts and activities really helpful, and they begged her to start a blog or write a book so they could learn more. Even in the midst of a crazy season, Rachel took this positive feedback as a good sign and she jumped in!She launched her blog, CandoKiddo.com in September 2014 and her Etsy shop, CanDoKiddo.Etsy.com in November of 2014.  Rachel's first book, Begin with a Blanket 4 Strategies for Exponential Growth  Less than a year into blogging, Rachel gets over 100,000 pageviews on her blog each month. She contributes her blog growth to several factors. 1. Building Online Relationships. Rachel says that the old school business model views other people in our niche as competition, but that's not how it works online. You have to have the mindset that everyone is on your team. Finding supportive online communities has been key to Rachel's growth. In some of her online communities, Rachel feels intimidated by the bigger bloggers who belong there, but she's forced herself to push past that. Rachel makes a point of continually checking into her favorite online communities - asking questions, offering help, and connecting. In this way, when something big is going on for Rachel, like a book launch, she's reaching out to ask for help from people who know her and her content. 2. Facebook Promotion. Rachel is part of the Kid Blogger Network , which has official share days for everyone's Facebook page. Rachel spends about 1.5 hours each week sharing her blog content on other blogger's facebook pages. The work has paid off - since Facebook is the highest referrer of traffic for CanDoKiddo.com. 3. Pinterest Group Boards. Rachel finds group boards within her niche of kids' blogs, parenting, and activities and pins her content in those places. Group boards often have quite a large number of followers, and if the right people see your post, it can get pinned and re-pinned over and over - generating a steady stream of traffic over the long-term. 4. Guest Posting. Rachel guest posts strategically and views it not just as a way to get more traffic, but as a way to establish a long-term relationship with another blogger. In this way, Rachel and another kids' blogger can mutually send each other traffic, ask questions of each other, and help each other out.  1 Year...Is it Enough?  Rachel's blog, CandoKiddo.com focuses just on developmental activities during infancy. Once a child is over a year old, Rachel really doesn't have much to say. Clearly, as a pediatric OT, Rachel could cover way more than the first year of life, but she's chosen a very narrow niche for two important reasons. 1. Be Known for Something Specific. There are millions of kids' activities bloggers or parenting bloggers, but Rachel is now known as the baby activities girl. That very clear identity makes it easier for other people to talk about Rachel and pass her site onto others. Think about it - when you're chatting with someone about their upcoming wedding or their new baby, do you send them to the most general sites on those topics, or do you have a light bulb moment in the middle of the conversation: "I know just the site for you! Check out this lady's blog - she features vintage weddings just like the one you're thinking of having!" Be known and remembered by defining what your brand is all about - and what it's not. 2. Create valuable content. Rachel's narrow niche helps guide her content. She knows she'll only focus on informative posts for a baby's first year of life. And when it comes to writing content, Rachel chooses quality over quantity. She writes really long blog posts so she can go in-depth and bring as much helpful information to the table as she can. Again, Rachel sets herself apart and has become the go-to girl for Developmental Content for Babies.  Fits & Spurts -a Realistic Strategy for Moms  With all the blog posts, podcasts, books, and other content on growing an online business, actually implementing the advice we hear can be overwhelming. We simply can't do it all. Especially when we're in the season that Rachel is in - a baby at home, one more on the way, and zero childcare help. Rachel uses the fits and spurts strategy to ensure she makes progress without getting overwhelmed. Essentially, every month Rachel will pick a new item in her business to focus on. One month, she focused on her email list and created some great opt-ins along with an autoresponder series. Another month, it was her Etsy shop and optimizing it for SEO. Recently, Rachel took a month to write her new book, Simple Play: Easy Fun for Babies.She said it was like pulling teeth to force herself to just write and not spend all her time Google Amazon marketing strategies. She told herself over and over, "Close the Google window. That's for next month! Keep writing!" Rachel says that at least once a month she has to remind herself that she can't do it all. She'll hit a wall, feel burned out and exhausted, and remember to just focus on the task at hand and relax about everything else for the month. A lot of the Fits and Spurts Strategy relies on trusting that the hard work Rachel did last month, or several months ago, will carry her through.  Making the Business More Passive  Rachel doesn't sell her books on her own site, and she admits that decision is largely based on pregnancy. She doesn't want the hassle of an additional sales channel and additional orders coming in that she's responsible to fulfill. With selling on Etsy, Rachel has to have boxes and gift wrap on hand, package her orders, and make trips to the post office. Now, Rachel is shifting her focus to selling on Amazon so that product fulfillment is taken out of her hands and home. Rachel is excited to see how her Amazon sales will shake out. So far on Etsy, 35% of her book sales are for her paperback version, and 65% are for the e-book. On Amazon, Rachel has the added option of bundling her two paperback books together. The best part? Rachel won't have to ship any of those orders herself! We can't wait to see how this makes the business more do-able with two babies at home.  Rule Breaker  Surprisingly enough, our sweet, southern guest could aptly be called Rachel the Rule Breaker. She doesn't believe in following every expert's advice to succeed in business. Below are several online business rules Rachel has broken...and it hasn't hurt her one bit. 1. Post on social media constantly. Rachel knows many bloggers who have pins going out on Pinterest every hour of every day and others who post to their Facebook page 30 times per day. She's tried these strategies and hated it. She was on social media 24/7 and the joy of blogging was lost. Rachel posts 2-3 times per day on Facebook, and she's very selective about what she shares. It has to be something very helpful within the baby niche, otherwise, she simply won't share it. Her engagement is great, and she doesn't feel like she's missing out by not posting 20 times or more per day. 2. Be controversial. Many parenting bloggers tell you that you should share topics on your Facebook page or blog that spark debate. This gets people talking and engaged. Rachel intentionally steers clear of hot button issues. Instead, she focuses on creating a positive, helpful, encouraging environment for parents, and her audience appreciates this. If they want a debate, there are plenty of places they can go online. 3. Write short blog posts, and write often. Rachel consistently blows through recommended word counts with her blog posts, and she writes less often to make sure each post is insanely helpful and informative. 4. Use an editorial calendar. Nope. Rachel doesn't do this either. Instead, she has a long list of blog posts she wants to write, and which ones she writes each week is determined by what she has time for. Some take quite a bit longer than others. (Isn't this the perfect strategy for a mom with little ones... we don't have guaranteed hours, so we have to be flexible.)  How to Schedule Life Around Baby and Business  Rachel says her work schedule has changed as her son's needs and her needs have changed. Early on, Rowan napped twice a day, and Rachel spent about 90% of nap time working on her business. Then, after Rowan goes to bed, Rachel works about 4 nights per week - clocking in about 3 hours on each of those nights. In the beginning of motherhood, Rachel also suffered from postpartum insomnia. So she'd be up at 4 AM while Rowan slept til 7:00. She could easily complete several hours of work before he woke up. Now that Rowan is older and naptime has decreased, Rachel's not able to work as much during the day. And during her first trimester of her second pregnancy, Rachel used that time to nap herself. It's what she needed! So she essentially cut her work time in half for a season. While Rachel's schedule continues to change based on the season and her family's needs, overall she says she works about 20-25 hours per week. That's quite a lot for someone who's a full-time mom with zero help.How does Rachel stay productive during those tight windows of work time? She highlights naptimes on her planner and writes down what she'll work on during any given naptime. Then she writes a list of things she can accomplish while Rowan is awake - such as housework, exercise, or cooking. Rachel says Rowan is pretty good at playing by himself since he's been so accustomed to fun activities from a young age. One caveat: Rachel doesn't review her list at the end of the day. Inevitably, she doesn't get everything done, so rather than dwell on what didn't get done, she lets that go and starts fresh with another day. Rachel with Soon-to-be big brother Rowan   Can a Solopreneur take Maternity Leave?  Rachel plans to have a maternity leave from her online career when her second baby is born in November. How will she swing it? The goal is for Rachel to not write any new blog posts for 6-8 weeks. She feels fine about m aintaining social media at some level, though. Right now, during Rachel's second trimester she's working hard to build up extra blog posts and reach out to online connections to get other bloggers guest posting on her site. In this way, she'll have built up a library of posts to use when she's out on leave. Another smart idea from Rachel: She's training her audience now to get accustomed to just one blog post from her so it won't be a huge shock when the baby is born. In addition, paring back her posts now allows her to use the time she would've spent each week writing post #2 and instead writing a post that will get scheduled several months from now.  The Question that Will Give your Business Clarity  A few months ago, Rachel starting finding some quiet time to sit down and reflect on what matters most to her in her business. Rather than spin her wheels indefinitely, she wants to strike a balance between work and family life, and that requires discerning the most important aspects of her business and leaving the rest behind. Rachel asks herself this question to get clarity: If I walked completely away from my business, what would I miss?Rachel quickly realized that she wouldn't miss making her play blankets or shipping Etsy orders. She's ok with letting those things go. However, she would really miss the personal connections she's made with parents who ask her questions and connect with her online. She loves helping parents and being accessible to them - so she wants to grow her business in ways that reflect this mission. Rachel's advice for other Mamapreneurs: Take some time for self reflection. Think about what's working in your business and what's not working. What makes you feel great about your business and what doesn't? And most of all, what would you miss if you walked away today? Brett McKay is the founder of The Art of Manliness, a website dedicated to delivering inspiring, actionable, and life changing advice to both men and women. A lot of times men just need a little more help being organized and getting their lives together than women do. As James says, "Women just grow up faster." Brett's wife Kate is also his business partner. While there are many advantages to having your spouse involved with your business, it also introduces the difficulty of separating work time from personal time. Even during dedicated work time it sometimes is hard to clearly define roles and responsibilities in the business. This is a theme that spans most business relationships, but generally your business partner isn't also the person you share a bed with each night. Brett keeps it simple by living by the mantra that both you and your spouse should "Seek to Serve Each Other." This doesn't need to be an equal relationship all the time. Go out of your way to be generous and giving to your loved ones. The Art of Manliness is currently publishing blog posts, podcast episodes, and videos about how to live well as a man in the modern world. As opposed to many of the existing Men's publications, The Art of Manliness is geared toward slightly older, professional men, and isn't focused on how to have six-pack abs or toe-curling sex for 5 hours every day. There are professional tips, parenting tips for men, and what some may call "Old Fashioned" advice that men can take to live a better, more fulfilling life. The site is currently experiencing revenues in the high six-figures-per-year range, and has been publishing consistently this entire time. As James has recounted before, it often takes 4 or 5 years to change your life, "Choose Yourself," and create the reality that you want. Brett gives advice on how to grow a site like he has with today's social media and sharing tools. He is a big advocate of "Guest Posting" on other blogs as a way to increase your reach online. The age of the solo blog is slowly going away. Today, sites like The Art of Manliness, with guest contributors, allow for a diverse set of voices and perspectives that one single person could never give. To make it easier on the site you're looking to guest post on, do most of the work for them. This includes image formatting, sizing, tagging, and including a scope of what type of post you would like to submit for that site. Digging into some of the more popular posts on the site, James and Brett discuss a few key topics: *Regarding Minimalism, Brett and James discuss how trying to be minimalist often leads to an obsession with the things you do have. Instead of just focusing on having things, even if it's fewer things, both advocate spending your time and money on experiences. This has been scientifically proven to increase happiness and is a great way to parent, as well as live your life if you don't have children. *The concept of Antifragility applies not only to the financial markets, as originally described by Nasim Taleb, but also to many aspects of everyday life. Health, fitness, engineering, women's health and vitality, and even society in general all experience aspects of Antifragility. We can all do things today to increase our Antifragility and be less susceptible to the trials of life. The redundancies in our lives can also increase Antifragility. *The Art of Manliness closely mirrors a lot of the topics that James has written about time and time again, including Integrity.
