“Sometimes I see how the brave new world arrives,And I see how it thrives in the ashes of our lives,Oh yes, man is a fool - and he thinks he'll be okay,Dragging on, feet of clayNever knowing he's astrayKeeps on going anyway”So sang ABBA in their festive hit, 'Happy New Year'. How different things might have been had they owned a SAD lamp. We're rounding out the year with a sombre reflection on some of the interviews that didn't make the cut for our last clip show in the summer. We appreciate you, we cherish you, and we wish you a better 2025 than your 2024. Or at least some kind of plateau. It's too early to talk about gourds, right? We hold on to the last vestiges of summer by immersing ourselves in Nantucket's Perfect Couple. (Is Sara the only one watching and thinking about how Nicole Kidman's Hollywood bestie is Naomi Watts, and Naomi Watts is also Liev Schreiber's ex-wife, and Liev Schreiber is playing Nicole Kidman's husband? Anyone? Bueller?) We delve into Couples Therapy too, of course, don't worry your pretty little heads. And our guest this week! It's only one of the world's - the world's! - best comedians, John Kearns, here to talk about his new standup special Varnishing Days. Sara's at the Edinburgh Fringe - or is she? So, it's the first of our summer specials where we talk TV with the festival's most dazzling comedians. Today, it's Jessie Cave. We loved her previous Edinburgh show, Sunrise, and she's back at the Fringe with *two* shows, An Ecstatic Display and a work-in-progress with her partner/ex (delete as applicable) and baby-pappa, Alfie Brown. You may know Jessie from her many TV appearances and acting roles, or as Lavender Brown in various Harry Potter movies and other I.P. She's funny, she's insightful, she's candid, and she's got all the talent. It's all very triggering to Sara, but she'd still like to be Jessie's BFF.See Sara at the Fringe: https://bit.ly/3vRVCw3A more gracious podcaster would have linked to Jessie's Fringe shows first: https://bit.ly/jtltw and https://bit.ly/jtltw2Email us: fuckoff@firecrotchandnormcore.comReduce the debt Sara is accruing in Edinburgh: https://www.patreon.com/THEYLIKETOWATCHEdited by Annabel Port https://annabelport.substack.com/ Hosted on Acast.
