The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour's concerted foray into televisual horror continues apace, with Doctor Velvet, Blackout and Ozzy Bognops continuing to wade drinks-aloft through the darkness. But into every cobwebbed crypt an ecclesiastical sunbeam must fall, and salvation arrives in the form of The Finest Hair On Television™... Yes, this week our trio of intrepid explorers brace their souls against all the netherworld has to offer by hitching a ride on the Highway To Heaven, where a Hallowe'en motel stop-over gives rise to interwoven suburban homilies on the spiritual dangers of practical jokes, emotional disengagement and sandwiches. How many appearance, repeat and residual fees does Michael Landon® bank by penning in archive-footage of his own cinematic back catalogue? Ever keen to multi-task, The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour's After Dark season is at this point so blasé with unseasonally ticking off items from the Hallowe'en schedule that they've started on the Christmas telly as well. Naturally, ghosts have no real concept of earthly time and so tend to turn up impromptu and behave appallingly. Much like dinner guests... Yes, this week the hoover gets pushed round and the best cutlery comes out for 1972's Dead Of Night: The Exorcism. And this cautionary tale of social entertaining is a nailed-on lesson as to a) why dinner parties are (and always have been) a thing to be avoided, and more notably b) why no one should invite Blackout and Doctor Velvet to them anyway. How long can a guest be expected to tolerate a power cut before just retiring to the airing-cupboard with a bottle of wine? How long can a ghost be expected to play the clavichord in the next room before you take a mell hammer to the windows? And how long can a fresh crime-scene be left before Kenneth Kendall starts talking about it on national television? Light a trail of candles to the Play button, and find out... Sleepy Time Tales Podcast – Creating a restful mindset through relaxing bedtime stories
Hi friends. Unfortunately my chest and voice are still wrecked from having the flu so I can't record anything that people would want to listen to. So here's the second part of 2023's Halloween reading. Be warned that traditional Halloween traditions may be a bit disturbing, but I left out the nasty stuff. This spooky episode shouldn't leave you sleepless. We continue the exploration of how pagan traditions were subsumed into Christianity, and how even some Christian traditions began to be viewed negatively after this association was created. We also finish off with a few fun traditions of regions like Brittany as we say goodbye to this particular book. Sorry friends, back to school time means my daughter has brought home a fun new illness which means I have no voice or energy, so I'm pulling this weird one out of the archive. Be warned that traditional Halloween traditions may be a bit disturbing, but I left out the nasty stuff. This spooky episode shouldn't leave you sleepless. Learn some of the traditions and tales of continental Europe, including the surprising revelation that Britain was considered to be the ‘Land of the Dead' by communities on the Channel coast of France. As the mysterious land they could see on clear days was otherwise unknown to them. Learn about how pagan traditions became ‘evil' and which ones were adopted by Christianity. Swami Vivekananda, in his English poem "Kali The Mother" and in his Bengali poem, "And Let Śyāmā Dance There", highlights the Worship of God as the Worship of The Terrible: God might cure our cancer but She is also the one who gave us cancer! If God is truly all powerful then She must also be responsible for all the evil in the world as well as all the good. If God is truly non-dual and all inclusive then She must contain both the auspicious and the inauspicious! Ah, what a challenging theology! On this auspicious Hallowe'en which also happens to be Śyāmā Kālī Pūjā, the day when we worship Mā in her terrible aspect as radiant darkness, we gave a special talk on embracing evil as equally divine, in the name of the most radical and inclusive non-duality! Friends of the Rosary, Today, October 31, is the Eve of All Saints, also known as All Hallows' Eve or Hallowe' en, and commonly known as Halloween. In England, saints or holy people are called “hallowed,” meaning “All Hallows' Day.”Halloween or All Hallows' Eve is not a liturgical feast on the Catholic calendar. However, the celebration has deep Catholic meaning. The three consecutive days — Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day — illustrate the Communion of Saints. In other words, Halloween is the preparation and combination of the two upcoming feasts. We, the Church Militant (those on earth striving to get to heaven), pray for the Church Suffering (those souls in Purgatory), especially on All Souls Day and November. We rejoice and honor the Church Triumphant (the saints, canonized and uncanonized) in heaven. We also ask the Saints' intercession for us. The demonic, witchcraft, and macabre practices have no place in a Catholic celebration. Do you need to dress in any costume? Tied to the theme of the saints, as shown below. Let's imitate them and what they did to reach heaven by preparing our souls for death. [To learn more, please check these interesting links at our website]. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New York • October 31, 2024, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET
The dark is here. The shift in the Sun's path is undeniable as the days shorten and the weather grows darker and colder. The Cross-Quarter holiday Samhain (pronounced "sow-wain") is possibly the most well-known of the Sabbats. Americans celebrate it as Hallowe'en. Samhain is the true tipping point into The Underworld Journey of Winter. Learn how to incorporate archetypes and symbols that can sometimes be dark and spooky into your life as healthy and balanced forms of working with The Shadow and to help you make the final shift away from the labor and celebrations of Autumn into the stillness and and rebirth of the coming Winter season. In this two hour lecture we will take a look at the superstitions and traditions surrounding Samhain, considering how people have used revelry, shape shifting, and pranks to deal with the oncoming chaos and breakdown of Winter - or to help bring it about. Immerse yourself in the ancient global rituals of this Cross Quarter festival acknowledging the death of the Sun and the Earth discover how you can evoke this power in your own life and world. But the work isn't done after one night! We'll take a look at what we can expect for the coming 6-7 weeks of Samhain season, learn how you can observe this time of transition for yourself or with your community, and get ready to Head Underground. Grab a friend, a journal or some art supplies, maybe make a pot of tea and a snack, and settle in. I also encourage folks to create sacred space for themselves by lighting a candle and/or some incense. You might also include magical tools like Tarot and your natal chart. See you in class, Witch! An eerie tale for Hallowe'en night, very much in the spirit of Ray Bradbury and Richard Matheson, by Mr Jim Moon himself
Message our hosts, Kieran and Jose.Hallowe'en is a time for bringing people together and sharing scary stories. Did you ever hear the one about the young, newlywed couple who broke down on the country road by the old psychiatric hospital...? No need to worry - this strictly scientific discussion sees Kieran and Jose share stories of the most terrifying heart conditions that they know of. The recording was plagued by unexplained technical difficulties... Jose was was delayed by a closed motorway, and Kieran was recording from a possibly haunted house. Add to that a specially remixed theme tune, and you can't help be in the Hallowe'en spirit after listening to our final FINAL episode of season 2.

We kick off this four-part “All Hallows Special” with a discussion surrounding the origins and modern practice of Hallowe'en. Is this spooky season really something for Christians to avoid? Does dressing up like Spiderman and going trick-or-treating mean that your child is participating in ancient pagan cultures? Although many have usurped this season for their own nefarious purposes, the pastors explain that much of the hype and fear around Halloween came about only recently. Discover how Hallowe'en (or All Hallows Eve) is connected to Reformation Day, All Saints Day, and whether Christians should take part. The Rev. Rick Schneider pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ronan, MT, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to discuss the origins of Hallowe'en. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Submit comments or questions to: thystrongword@kfuo.org.
In this chapter we explore Hallowe'en in the mid-nineties, and chart the rise of The Crow, Angela returns from Hell in Night of the Demons 2, go trick or treating with Richie, Eddie and a cattle prod, and suffer Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

We all play a hundred different roles and contain multitudes, but what are the masks you wear? And who are the goblins, demons, and vampires that plague you? Today's episode of Sex, Love, and Elephants features a Dharma Talk where I teach about ideas that can feel much spookier than the ghosts and ghouls of Halloween. What is your shadow self? What are the parts of yourself you don't like to look at? What are the parts of you that are your darker self from trauma, fear, and need? The more we can look at the masks we wear, the more we can examine the costumes we wear, the more we can have moments of grace and less suffering. In This Episode, You Will Learn: We sometimes forget we're a whole conglomeration of shifting roles and personality traits (07:51) Where you put your attention, energy goes (24:13) We all have inner demons but when we repress or ignore them, they find their way out—usually in destructive ways (35:47) Hatred is illusory. Hatred is a state of mind that we can learn to see through and dissolve without taking unwholesome action (46:38) Want to learn more about Buddhism and relationships? Story Prescription: A story for Hallowe'en, All Hallow's Eve, when the souls of those past are remembered. An ethereally spooky story from Scotland, about two sisters who love the same man. It doesn't end well, but it does end with a song of a harp that sings of sorrow. If you are listening from the Scottish Highlands, or know someone who might enjoy Stories and Harp, join us on Saturday 16th November for Love in the Underworld. If you are not local to Scotland, but would like to join me online, then Wild Women, a six months journey into the wild feminine through stories starts on the 8th November.

I know the title sounds new agey and off the wall but only because it is. I intend to discuss cremation ground sadhana a little and present three or four reasons for it, focusing on the concept of “spirit traffic”. This is a bit of a pre-Hallowe'en Hallowe'en talk I suppose!Today will be the last talk of our “summer semester” before we shift gears for the fall! You'll recall the project this summer was to cover some foundational concepts in Sadhana and we started with "How To Get Started In Spiritual Life" exploring some basics and then we discussed “right motive” in spiritual life and suggested an attitudinal shift that can make for a long term and sustainable sadhana to prevent burnout in "How To Enjoy Spiritual Life"In Should Worship One Deity or Many, Chant One Mantra or Many? we looked at the underlying reality behind every mantra and deity-form to make the argument for one-ness and to show a way to work with many different mantras and murtis without losing a sense of that one-ness!Then of course we had to take up the question of the all-too-necessary living spiritual guide in How To Choose A Guru & What To Do If You Don't Have OneThen we thoroughly analyzed Tantrik subtle anatomy to explain the dynamics of sadhana, spiritual practice. We explored some basic puja techniques and then we took all of those foundational ideas into the signature lecture of the summer The Secret Worship of Mā Kālī which we gave on Kali Jayanti and which presents a rather complete Sadhana for Mā Kālī.So now that you have everything you need to begin an intense and productive and complete Sadhana, there's only one question left to ask: “how do I stay grounded and not go insane?”Sadly “spinning out into madness” is something that happens far too often to sincere spiritual aspirants who go about things in the wrong way. So today, we'll cover that as a nice closing sentiment for summer semester!Enjoy!Lectures happen live every Monday at 7pm PST and Friday 10am PST and again Friday at 6pm PST.Use this link and I will see you there:https://www.zoom.us/j/7028380815For more videos, guided meditations and instruction and for access to our lecture library, visit me at:https://www.patreon.com/yogawithnishTo get in on the discussion and access various spiritual materials, join our Discord here: https://discord.gg/U8zKP8yMrMSupport the show
