Have you ever caught yourself stuck in a spiral of negative thoughts? Do you have a go-to way to reset when you’re feeling overwhelmed? Today, Jay dives into one of the most common modern struggles: overthinking. Whether it's an unanswered text, a mistake at work, or uncertainty about your next step, our minds often trap us in loops of doubt, fear, and frustration. But what if the path to peace starts with a few spiritual truths? In this episode, Jay shares timeless wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita and Buddhist teachings to help you finally stop spiraling and start releasing. He walks you through five powerful shifts—from learning how to emotionally declutter your space and mind, to embracing the truth that pain is part of life, but suffering is a choice. Jay also introduces practical rituals—like writing and discarding thoughts—that are scientifically proven to help you regulate difficult emotions. With heartfelt insight, Jay explores how we can become friends with our own minds and stop rehearsing conversations and conflicts that never happen. He urges us to face the things we’re avoiding, take action instead of postponing, and learn the art of letting go with intention. In this episode, you’ll learn: How to Stop Thought Spirals Before They Take Over. Why Writing Down Your Emotions Can Help You Let Go. The Difference Between Pain and Suffering—and How to Reduce Both. How Your Environment Impacts Your Mental State. Why Speaking the Truth Sets You Free from Overthinking. This episode is your invitation to choose presence over perfection and peace over pressure. Whether you're caught in a loop of overthinking or simply craving clarity, this conversation will bring you back to stillness. What usually makes you feel anxious? How do you calm yourself when you’re worried? Today, Jay welcomes back for the third time, his good friend Humble the Poet. This time Jay and Humble unpack the rich wisdom from his latest book, Unlearned: 50 Simple Truths to Help Overthinkers Feel Less Stress and More Calm. Their candid, soulful dialogue offers a compassionate exploration of anxiety, emotional resilience, and personal growth. Humble begins by reframing anxiety not as a condition to be cured, but as a signal for deeper self awareness. Rather than diagnosing anxious feelings, he encourages listeners to build a new relationship with anxiety, one rooted in curiosity, compassion, and personal empowerment. Through engaging stories and honest reflections, Humble emphasizes that anxiety often arises when our minds overestimate threats and underestimate our own capabilities. Humble emphasizes that managing anxiety isn't about eliminating it, but about strengthening our ability to face it, while building resilience through consistent, courageous actions. Humble recounts his raw and personal experience of how familial expectations and childhood coping mechanisms continue to shape adult anxieties. Together, they talk through setting boundaries with loved ones, not as acts of rebellion, but as invitations for healthier relationships. Humble poignantly differentiates between true guilt and people-pleasing, and how the latter can sabotage our sense of self. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Reframe Anxiety as a Signal, Not a Problem How to Set Boundaries Without Guilt How to Turn Curiosity Into Courage How to Stop People-Pleasing and Start Honoring Yourself How to Get Comfortable With Uncertainty How to Find Belonging Instead of Forcing Fit-In Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or simply curious about how to manage anxiety differently, this episode is a compassionate and energizing guide to becoming “Unanxious”, one empowering truth at a time. improve it! Podcast – Professional Development Through Play, Improv & Experiential Learning

Are you stuck in the endless loop of overthinking? Maybe you've rewritten the same email five times, hesitated to act on a great idea, or turned your to-do list into a novel. Overthinking doesn't just waste time—it keeps you from living fully. In today's episode, Erin tackles how to break free from the analysis paralysis and take intentional, meaningful steps forward. Here's what you need to know: 1. The Problem with Overthinking Overthinking might feel like preparation, but it often paralyzes us instead. As Erin discusses in the episode, overthinking shows up as rehearsing perfect outcomes, hesitating to act, and losing momentum. It's like being in an improv scene where second-guessing kills the energy. For leaders, this habit can hold back both personal progress and team performance. Life, like improv, doesn't follow a script, and trying to control every detail often leads to frustration rather than fulfillment. 2. Start with Your “Why” The first step in simplifying your intentions is finding your purpose. Erin compares this to an improv game where you identify the core idea driving the scene. By clarifying what truly matters to you, you can focus on meaningful goals. Try this exercise: If your life were a play, what would the main character (you!) want to accomplish in this act? By anchoring your goals in purpose, you'll cut through distractions and stay aligned with what's most important. 3. Focus on 1–3 Key Areas One major takeaway from the episode is the power of focus. Just as too many ideas on stage can ruin an improv scene, too many goals can dilute your energy. Erin recommends choosing 1–3 focus areas that align with your “why.” For example, you might prioritize improving relationships, advancing professionally, or nurturing self-care. By narrowing your focus, you'll achieve clarity and make meaningful progress without feeling overwhelmed. 4. Break Goals into Micro-Actions Big goals can feel daunting, but breaking them into micro-actions makes them manageable. In improv, scenes are built line by line—and your goals should work the same way. If your intention is better self-care, start with small, actionable steps, like setting aside five minutes daily to stretch or meditate. Progress builds momentum, and every small win moves you closer to your larger vision. 5. Progress Over Perfection Finally, embrace the improv mindset of progress over perfection. No one delivers the perfect scene every time, and no one achieves their goals without a few missteps. Celebrate small wins along the way and view challenges as opportunities to pivot. In the episode, Erin shares an exercise to overcome mental blocks: shout out the first word that comes to mind to break the cycle of overthinking. It's a simple, effective way to get unstuck and take action. Final Thoughts Overthinking keeps us in our heads, but action moves us forward. Simplifying your intentions is about doing what matters most. Today, take one intention you've been overthinking and break it into the simplest, smallest action you can take. Whether it's sending an email, jotting down your goals, or taking a five-minute breather, start now. Remember, the magic happens when you leap. What's your first step? Share your intention with Erin by tagging her on Instagram (@itserindiehl) or sending an email (info@learntoimproveit.com). I'm absolutely thrilled about this episode because it's packed with heart, wisdom, and so many nuggets of inspiration. My guest is the one and only Jackie De Crinis, a former TV executive turned life coach, who has just released her debut book, The Overthinker's Guide to Joy. Trust me – you'll be laughing, reflecting, and taking notes all at once. Jackie spent decades in the high-stakes world of television, where she developed iconic shows like Suits, White Collar, Monk, and Mr. Robot. But as you'll hear, she didn't just curate hit series; she also navigated a deeply personal journey of listening to her intuition and creating a life of joy. Jackie shares the behind-the-scenes magic of her career, her insights on overthinking and joy, and the transformative power of asking for help. I especially loved her story about discovering tennis, which started with her assistant insisting she get a hobby and (spoiler alert!) ultimately led to her meeting her husband of 20+ years! It's a beautiful example of how small steps can lead to life-changing outcomes.  We also dive into some themes from her book, like why asking for help is so challenging for many of us (especially perfectionists and people pleasers) and how to start practicing asking for help without guilt or fear.  Tune into our conversation and hear more about: Why listening to your intuition matters How asking for help (even when it's hard!) transforms your relationships AND health How saying "no" is deeply connected to saying "yes" to yourself and your well-being The importance of gratitude in relationships The power of prioritizing the easy steps over the hard ones   RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: The Overthinker's Guide to Joy by Jackie De Crinis Episode 128: Doing What Feels Right with Jackie De Crinis The Questions for Couples Journal The Marriage Mindset Makeover Visit Jackie's Website Listen to Jackie's Podcast, The Overthinker's Guide to Joy Connect with Jackie on Instagram

In today's episode, I discuss the importance of building self-trust through taking action before you're ready. I share how a lack of self-trust can lead to overthinking, second-guessing, and inaction. Drawing on a pivotal moment in my life when I moved to California for an internship with very little self-belief, stepping out of my comfort zone, and being authentic helped me build my self-trust.
