In this episode, I respond to a one-star review criticizing my interpretation of the parable of the workers in the vineyard (Matthew 20). The review accuses me of neglecting proper biblical scholarship and pushing an economic agenda. But is that a fair critique?Join me as I break down the review, address the concerns raised, and explore the principles of biblical exegesis. We'll examine different interpretive lenses—moralistic, theological, redemptive, and fulfillment perspectives—while uncovering the parable's core message about God's kingdom. Along the way, we'll also consider its secondary implications for property rights and labor value. This episode isn't just a response to criticism—it's a deep dive into how Scripture, economics, and anarchist thought intersect.Full Episode Show Notes at BiblicalAnarchyPodcast.comThe Biblical Anarchy Podcast is part of the Christians For Liberty Network, a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute.Audio Production by Podsworth Media.
In Washington, the U.S Bureau of Reclamation has awarded the Round Valley Indian Tribes and the Sonoma Water Agency $15 million. In Sacramento, committee assignments have been made official. We spoke with District Two Assemblyperson Chris Rogers about his committee assignments. And, closer to home, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened the north boat launch at Lake Mendocino. Meanwhile, in Ukiah, the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County has closed due to a Parvo emergency, and Fort Bragg Mayor Jason Goedeke reported on a bridge safety meeting with Caltrans.
EPISODE 122 | How to Be a Communist One of the many words tossed about these days as a snarl term is “communist”, but do the people using this sobriquet know what that really means? It certainly doesn't mean every leftwing philosophy or ideology. In fact, Communism is a very specific set of applications of very certain ideas, and, like it or not, helped define the 20th century. So let's look at what Communism is and what it isn't, and what other systems and suites of thought have crossover with it. Like all the different flavors of Socialism. Like what we do? You're listening to Bardtenders! In this episode of "The Mixing Glass", Tara Gillum joins us to talk about her 20+ career in the hospitality industry. We cover cruise ship bartending, what it's like to own a cocktail bar, and working with charity organizations. Tara Gillum cut her teeth behind local bars at an early age and quickly fell in love with the bar industry. Over the course of her career, Tara worked in a variety of positions ranging from cruise ships to hotel bar management. In 2014 she took a leap of faith and opened Steiner's Speakeasy in Chillicothe Ohio. Although the focus and offerings of the bar changed over the years from craft beer to cocktails and spirits, the drive to be more than just a place to get a drink stayed the same. During the pandemic of 2020, Tara went to the internet to reach her community. Steiner's Happy Hour at Home was born, online cocktail classes from Tara's kitchen where people could log on and interact, just like they would in the bar itself. That was a pivotal moment. After multiple awards for her cocktails and entrepreneurship, Tara decided she wanted to do more with spirits and cocktail education. Whether it be in a class full of community members or a bar looking for new ideas, Bad Girl, Good Cocktails is Tara's endeavor into making the world a tastier place. You can find Tara on social media @badgirlgoodcocktails and you can check out her website at www.badgirlgoodcocktails.com ----------If you've listened to the episode already, you'll know that we talked Tara's hometwon Human Society. We decided it was time to bring AI back into the discussion for this month's episode of the Process Palooza Podcast. To help us do that, we have invited Jon Wade, a professor of practice at the Jacobs School of Engineering. Dr. Wade specializes in systems engineering, a goldmine field for process improvement information. What we are really interested in, though, is his work in mining that field for the world's largest and most complex system: human society. Topics Mentioned: 1. An introduction to Dr. Jon Wade and his background 2. A world changed by a pandemic 3. Human Society as Systems (and types of systems) 4. How philosophies can evolve over time 5. Building connection and accepting when something can't be changed 6. Knowing what to measure when improving systems 7. Experience with continuous improvement 8. What is systems engineering? 9. Real world examples of systems engineering (for good or ill) 10. Societal impacts of technologies 11. Ethical implications of AI 12. Potential and promise of AI 13. The OODA Loop, or how large organizations can make decisions quickly 14. The power of the open source movement 15. Reaching the public Donella Meadows and Leverage Points: https://donellameadows.org/archives/leverage-points-places-to-intervene-in-a-system/ A closer look at the OODA Loop: https://thedecisionlab.com/reference-guide/computer-science/the-ooda-loop My own book recommendation about building connections and empathy: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/550616/the-war-for-kindness-by-jamil-zaki/

Just as God is a community, a Trinity of Persons, so too, man—who is created by God—was made to live in community. This social aspect of man is embedded in our human nature. Today I talk about how the human society and even the civil authorities are willed by God. I also talk about the principle of “subsidiarity”. Lately I've been seeing many posts on social media around the legitimacy of starseeds. There being SO MUCH dis-information and false light agenda out there, many of you are becoming disenchanted by the possibility. The thing is, this was the goal of the false light agendas, to discredit ACTUAL Lightworkers and star seeds - so I felt more than ever inspired to share more publicly my Starseed Awakening Story. The REALNESS of inter dimensional assistance on Earth at this time is AWESOME - and so much of that is an internal experience to be activated. Hello to you listening in Canandaigua, New York! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Question: What connects art and literature? The answer might sound too simple to be true. Imagination. And yet, the answer has never lost its truth. This from Australian artist, writer and filmmaker Shaun Tan: “Being able to exercise your mind to imagine other ways of existing, and being able to get excited about that, to pre-visualize, to feel in advance something hopeful. Facts and logic don't seem to cut it with humanity. Even fear and crisis don't afford the proportional response – in the face of slow death we drag our heels and turn inward, we elect false leaders, we make excuses. The real motivation for change has to be positive, being able to imagine things already getting better. Stories have a huge role to play here, given that every significant change that's ever happened in human society has begun with someone telling a story, for better or worse. As artists and writers, we have a natural bias toward truth and honesty, so our stories can be strong and enduring. Not necessarily right or wrong, but able to advance the imagination towards positive, motivating feelings, to have conceptual enthusiasm, beyond the terror of facts and seemingly insurmountable problems.”Question: How does your art, your writing, your particular way of being in the world advance our human imagination and society? CTA: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! In this week's episode of Ḥoni's Circle we study Psalm 104, the psalm read on Rosh Ḥodesh, the new month holiday. We discuss the themes of interdependence, humanity's smallness compared to the complex and large surrounding ecosystem, and the natural world's independent relationship with the divine. We also discuss the how the mention of sinners at the end of the psalm can relate to our current destruction of resources, and how that relates to themes of the divine promise of the renewal of nature. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: We Are Less Wrong than E. T. Jaynes on Loss Functions in Human Society, published by Zack M Davis on June 5, 2023 on LessWrong. These paragraphs from E. T. Jaynes's Probability Theory: The Logic of Science (in §13.12.2, "Loss functions in human society") are fascinating from the perspective of a regular reader of this website: We note the sharp contrast between the roles of prior probabilities and loss functions in human relations. People with similar prior proabilities get along well together, because they have about the same general view of the world and philosophy of life. People with radically different prior probabilities cannot get along—this has been the root cause of all the religious wars and most of the political repressions throughout history. Loss functions operate in just the opposite way. People with similar loss functions are after the same thing, and are in contention with each other. People with different loss functions get along well because each is willing to give something the other wants. Amicable trade or business transactions, advantageous to all, are possible only between parties with very different loss functions. We illustrated this by the example of insurance above. (Jaynes writes in terms of loss functions for which lower values are better, whereas we more often speak of utility functions for which higher values are better, but the choice of convention doesn't matter—as long as you're extremely sure which one you're using.) The passage is fascinating because the conclusion looks so self-evidently wrong from our perspective. Agents with the same goals are in contention with each other? Agents with different goals get along? What!? The disagreement stems from a clash of implicit assumptions. On this website, our prototypical agent is the superintelligent paperclip maximizer, with a utility function about the universe—specifically, the number of paperclips in it—not about itself. It doesn't care who makes the paperclips. It probably doesn't even need to trade with anyone. In contrast, although Probability Theory speaks of programming a robot to reason as a rhetorical device[1], this passage seems to suggest that Jaynes hadn't thought much about how ideal agents might differ from humans? Humans are built to be mostly selfish: we eat to satisfy our own hunger, not as part of some universe-spanning hunger-minimization scheme. Besides being favored by evolution, selfish goals do offer some conveniences of implementation: my own hunger can be computed as a much simpler function of my sense data than someone else's. If one assumes that all goals are like that, then one reaches Jaynes's conclusion: agents with similar goal specifications are in conflict, because the specified objective (for food, energy, status, whatever) binds to an agent's own state, not a world-model. But ... the assumption isn't true! Not even for humans, really—sometimes people have "similar loss functions" that point to goals outside of themselves, which benefit from more agents having those goals. Jaynes is being silly here. That said—and no offense—the people who read this website are not E. T. Jaynes; if we can get this one right where he failed, it's because our subculture happened to inherit an improved prior in at least this one area, not because of our innate brilliance or good sense. Which prompts the question: what other misconceptions might we be harboring, due to insufficiently general implicit assumptions? Thanks for listening. Anthropologist Victor Turner, who popularised the term Liminality, found that human society has two modes of interrelatedness that function like a yin and yang — mutually dependant and without which human life would be impossible. Structure is the mode of status and hierarchy in society; Communitas of love, compassion and myth. These two modes show up in very interesting ways in our current society. These can be fruitfully mapped over with the religious and scientific mindsets; with the Constrained and Unconstrained Visions of Thomas Sowell's work; with the Order and Chaos of Jordan Peterson's work Maps of Meaning and with the left- and right-hemispheres of the brain in Iain McGilchrist's work. None of these are 1:1 mapovers but there's something rich even in this difference. This episodes marks the beginning of our explorations in this fertile model of human life. ____________________

We continue with the Lectures in Caribbean Thought. We introduced the concepts of Power, position, privilege, and the foundations of Knowledge and Hegemony of faith within the development of western civilization that affects Caribbean thinking and reality. This is compendium of perspectives on power that examine how the status quo uses strategy to extend, establish or maintain power which then imposes on Caribbean Thought and poses problems for human (Caribbean) progress. This involves looking at the Development of Power, Privilege, Position & Status Within the Foundations of Historical literature and Divine Intervention. The presentation will be interdisciplinary but benefits from the discipline of Liberal Studies and liberal arts, lifting up issues of human values and ethics. We will consider and make conclusions about the foundations of knowledge and the hegemony of faith as we present our analysis. It uses anthropological methods and other primary and secondary sources to ascertain data as well as explore the historical archives. Further the Lecture presentation, due to the dynamism of the Lecturer/presenter, writing within a post-colonial milieu will consider social media as one of the Greatest Victory for Masses and Social Movements and Caribbean peoples, that will upend Strategies of Power by The Status Quo and the culture of violence in society? Moreover, the answer may lie in an exploration of The Development of Power, Privilege, Position and Status Within the Foundations of Historical literature and Divine Intervention. I am here talking about the foundations of knowledge and the hegemony of faith and the cultures containing this hegemony. So, we will begin by asking, "Do the Poems of Homer and Hesiod's Theogony and the Biblical Stories provide a Basis to Begin to Understand the Problem and Consequences of Human Dynamics in the Development of Human Society? Further, language, thought and history become part of any examination and reflection of culture involving philosophical inquiry. "The negro is not. Any more than the Whiteman," Frantz Fanon, in "Black Skin White Masks," psychoanalyses of the "colonized" (systematically-controlled) man/woman, he removes the dominant view within comparisons, striving for the empowered self. According to Homi Bhabha, here the familiar alignment of colonial [controlled] subjects is disturbed by a break, a pause from the usual to reveal a truly authentic self. In fact, when we hear of Jamaica or the Caribbean, we think of beautiful islands of paradise with sun, sea and sand, reggae music, cannabis and "irie" people like Usain Bolt- people who are living out their best dreams, desires, and lives. But this book analyzes this motif, given the historical and current economic and political situation in Jamaica and the Caribbean / the "Global South." In an attempt to escape the adverse realities of poverty, inequality, and injustice, the people of the Global South find themselves in north metropolises with very little agency and minimal change to their lives. In fact, except for the use of cleaning neoliberal waste, the immigrant is usually portrayed as an alien with three heads and big sharp teeth seeking to steal and destroy the profit and disrupt society. As such we will discuss Black, brown, and Pan-African struggles for economic prosperity, justice, and freedom and consider efforts, abilities, or inabilities to chart their own futures since decolonization and realize real political independence and economic prosperity. Perhaps, they are charting their own course by the few corrupt of the status quo who are benefiting from partnerships with the neoliberal regime of the "Washington Consensus," advocates of the "bureaucratic phenomenon," while the masses are left behind…” We explore history and thinking from a sub-altern view as we think about Privilege, Power, Position and Status within the development of society. https://theneoliberal.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theneoliberal/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theneoliberal/support
In the episode, "The A.I. Future is NOW: Job Loss, Adaptation, Immersion, & Reorganizing Human Society (S5, E6)," I share how the AI Future is upon us and there is no stopping it. I cover a spectrum of material from Vernor Vinge's essay "Technological Singularity" to the inaccuracies of Chat GPT 4, to machine learning failing to identify depression based on neurobiology. As lead researcher Nils R. Winter stated, "The fact that we cannot find meaningful (univariate or multivariate) neurobiological differences on the level of the individual for one of the most prevalent mental disorders should give us pause.” I also review some of the hot podcasts right now reviewing AI advancements with the most prominent people in the field, and refer to what the new power systems may look like in a new AI-centric society. As our dependence increases on Generative AI, a lack of critical thinking may grow out of our laziness as addictive behaviors may increase to getting our dopamine fixes. Even totalitarian structures may rise up, while we create a world of the future where less people can pursue their ideal lives. Having been thrown into this timeline as a "natural" willing to champion human purism, as everyone in tech embraces AI without question, I call out to the rest of the people, who will not be transitioning in this transhuman era, to answer the following question: What do we want our society to look like as we brace for the AI impact? Catherine Frieman, an associate professor of European Archaeology at the School of Archaeology, talks about her recent book, An Archaeology of Innovation: Approaching Social and Technological Change in Human Society, with Peoples & Things host, Lee Vinsel. Her book offers a long-term perspective on innovation that only archaeology can offer and draws on case studies from across human history, from our earliest hominin ancestors to the present. The book makes several different arguments, but one of them is that our present narrow focus on pushing the adoption of technical innovations—especially so called “disruptive innovations”—ignores the complex social, technological, and environmental systems that undergirds successful societies. In this episode, Dr. Tony Nader and Dr. Michael Levin discuss the different aspects of information, communication, intelligence, and awareness of cells. We see that even on the cellular level, the cells not only react individually to inputs and information but also there is a collective behaviour, which is called collective intelligence. Together, Dr. Nader and Dr. Levin explore how collective consciousness presents itself on the cellular level and also in our day-to-day existence. Dr. Michael Levin is a Distinguished Professor in the Biology department at Tufts University and serves as the director of the Allen Discovery Center. He holds a PhD in biology from Harvard University and his groundbreaking research on bioelectric signals has important applications for how we understand cancer, regenerative medicine and even aging.
