Sometimes those memories are about how they led their classes, making everyone feel accepted and valued, and sometimes we recall a humorous moment, or maybe a hat or other accessory that became that teacher's "brand." More often, however, we look back fondly on how that teacher made us feel, what he or she did to help us learn, or the way their concern and understanding was conveyed to us. If you are a great teacher now, you are also building a storehouse of memories. Thank you. If you don't serve in a teaching role, you know someone who does, regardless of their job title. Take a moment to share a word of appreciation with that person. Great teachers make a difference. Max talks with Jim Goldfuss about his journey from a career in logistics and retail to fulfilling his dream of flying professionally with PlaneSense, a fractional aircraft ownership company. Growing up around aviation, Jim earned his private pilot's license in 1989 but paused his flying ambitions due to financial constraints. Decades later, with stable finances and family support, he resumed training, earning his instrument rating, commercial license, and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate between 2020 and 2022. Jim credits his time as a CFI with sharpening his aviation skills and communication abilities, which prepared him for his current role. He joined PlaneSense after a year-long application process, leveraging persistence and networking to stand out. At PlaneSense, Jim flies Pilatus PC-12s as a second-in-command, alternating legs with captains and handling preflight, avionics programming, and monitoring tasks. He praises the company's culture, advanced equipment, and comprehensive training. Jim's work involves a mix of short flights in the Northeast and longer legs to destinations like Florida and the Rockies. He aims to become a captain and potentially join the training department. Jim emphasizes the importance of networking for aspiring pilots pursuing their aviation dreams. If you're getting value from this show, please support the show via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or Patreon. Can't Judge An Entrepreneur By The Cover 11/17/18. Something struck me recently about the changing ideas of what makes one an entrepreneur, hustler, influencer, business leader, etc.... There is no "set" type of person. Old, young, male, female, suit-and-tie or jeans and a t-shirt types. All types of people are pursuing their careers or other passions while trying to find ways to make it all work. That's the common bond - making your "thing" work because that's what you want to do with your life. Career, Side-Hustle or Hobby - Levels of Entrepreneurship 1/12/19. I run through the levels of entrepreneurship: Side Hustle, Project Based, Outside Interest, Second Career and Hobby. Each has its own set of rules, expectations, and return on investment (or lack thereof). If your full-time/part-time J-O-B isn't enough, there are a few options. There are many options for "being your own boss" with levels of risk, freedom, and fringe benefits. Let's talk about it.

Jumping into a new career can be both exciting and a bit scary, especially when you are diving into something as creative as interior design. Thankfully I have good news for you! The experience, skills, and achievements of your past job are not just baggage. They are your secret weapon in your new career. In this episode, I want to encourage you as you venture into your second career of becoming an interior designer. We discuss how to leverage your past career skills, the value of showcasing your unique background, and I also give you specific examples of how skills transfer from different professions. LEVERAGING PAST CAREER SKILLS Your past career has given you a treasure trove of skills that can give you an advantage in interior design. Whether you were in corporate, healthcare, sales, or any other field, you've got the skills that are pure gold in the design world. For instance, if you were in sales, you probably have amazing relationship-buildig and negotiation skills. These are perfect for dealing with clients, getting great deals with vendors, and managing project budgets. If you were in healthcare, your attention to detail and ability to handle high-stress situations can make you a project management superstar and a client service expert. Don't just brush these skills aside. They're part of a your unique perspective and capabilities. Embrace them and use them as part of your professional toolkit as you step into the design world. This not only will boost your confidence, but it lets you offer something truly unique to your clients. PERSONAL BRANDING AND UNIQUE EXPERIENCES Standing out in the world of interior design is crucial. One of the best ways to do this is by showcasing your unique background and personal journey. Your past experiences, skills, and achievements make you special. They set you apart from other designers who might have taken a more traditional route into the industry. Make sure your bio and social media profiles reflect this uniqueness. Instead of sounding generic and boring, weave in parts of your past that highlight your strengths and versatility. If you have a background in law, talk about your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. If you were in healthcare, highlight your compassion and high emotional intelligence. These qualities not only enrich your design practice but also connect you with clients who are looking for a designer who understands them. By sharing your journey authentically, you create a personal brand that's memorable and relatable. Clients will feel a deeper connection with you, appreciating the diverse experiences you bring to the table. TRANSFERRING SPECIFIC CAREER SKILLS TO DESIGN Every career gives you skills that can be incredibly useful in interior design. Here are some examples: 1. Law and Legal Services: Skills like attention to detail, critical thinking, and negotiation are invaluable in interior design. They help with contract management and client negotiations and ensure every project detail is perfect. 2. Healthcare: The healthcare field teaches patience, empathy, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations. These skills are essential when dealing with client demands, managing timelines, and ensuring a smooth design process. 3. Sales: A background in sales gives you excellent communication, persuasion, and relationship-building skills. These are key for marketing your services, closing deals, and maintaining long-term client relationships. 4. Parenting: Yes, even skills from full-time parenting are super relevant. Organizational skills, multitasking, and managing diverse needs simultaneously are all a part of being a successful interior designer. And the list goes on! In the episode, I share even more examples of how unique skills from various professions can be transferred to a career in interior design. By identifying and transferring these specific skills, you can carve out your special place in the interior design market. Each profession brings strengths that can enhance your design practice, making you a well-rounded and versatile designer. Venturing into interior design as a second career isn't about starting from scratch. It's about building on the foundation you've already got. No, there was no balance. There's still no balance. But the balance that currently is in my life is the imbalance that I choose, thankfully. So that's how I knew. It was just a gut feeling... Something clicks and you say, ‘I'm not supposed to be here anymore.'” (12:14 | Sonni Abatta)“It was really hard for me to remove that part of my world, like an official working person, reporter or anchor. I really chased the dream for a long time and I loved it, but I felt deeply that it was time to be done. And I just did it. I always say, ‘I acknowledge that there's a level of privilege in being able to do this.'” (13:19 | Sonni Abatta)“Don't waste time on imposter syndrome. You're doing it for a reason, whether you're creating a product or you're creating something that's not physical. Believe in it. I mean, if you don't believe in it, I'm not going to believe in it.” (38:54 | Sonni Abatta) Connect with Sonni Abatta:http://www.instagram.com/sonniabattaGrab Lindsay's guide: 30 Pieces of Content in Two Hours:https://lindsaypinchuk.myflodesk.com/fedimy6g3bIf you like what you're hearing, please leave a rating or review at: https://ratethispodcast.com/dearfoundherGrow your business + bottom line with a simplified strategy and process for your small business with Lindsay's group mentorship, Marketing Made Simple for Small Business.
