I love coffee and I love sugar (and tea and chocolate for the record). This is clearly a typical human response. I am also unhappy about their history and their present conditions of production. This episode is dedicated to understanding the history & why I think these things are luxuries - and should be somewhat condiered so - but also that treating the people producing them will not only make ALL our lives better but preserve the agricultural health of the planet.Seriously - good working conditions for agricultural labor only makes all human life better. It ain't bad for the animals either.Anyway - hit me up if you are playing around with coffee cherry products. FYI - Here's one translation of Bernardin St. Pierre's Diary. (VOVWORLD) - In today’s That’s life edition, follow our reporter Ha Ngan to Maison Marou – “a café, patisserie, and bean-to-bar factory in Hanoi’s diplomatic quarter”. “Marou” is the combination of the names of two founders Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou. 2 French guys quit their jobs after they met during a trip to Nam Cat Tien National Park, where they tasted Vietnamese cacao for the very first time in 2010. Though their experience in food industry was zero, the pair were determined to bring out the best of locally sourced chocolate in Vietnam. Their efforts paid off with worldwide recognition including the New York Times which dubbed Marou “the best chocolate you’ve never tasted.” Pic: Chocolate expert Nguyen Manh Hung (Photo: VOV) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/vov5thatslife/support

You will note that the name we say we SHOULD call the episode is not what we actually call it. I blame the beer. And it is GOOD beer - I ran into the actual owner of the brewery the day after we recorded it at the Co-Op, and gushed about how awesome it was. Otherwise, this week is a mixed bag. We have some outstanding foods, and some things that probably should be shot out of a cannon into the sun. But that is how it goes when We Eat it, So You Don't Have To!
At school Jane's creative writing exercises would often be returned covered in red ink. Now a published author, Jane returns to those same books to find what her teachers had dismissed as lazy sloppy writing, were actually the early musings of a celebrated author.
